CyanogenMod Support - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I want to know for how long will the HTC One be officially supported by Cyanogenmod (an estimate). I want to get this phone but I also want to make sure cyanogenmod is at least supported for the 2 years of my contract. I have not had the best experience when it comes to HTC phones and variety of available stock android ROMs.

Well the phone itself will be officially support by google for at least that long so I would say Cyanogen mod is a good bet.

Until devs get new devices and don't want to work on the One anymore, it could be a year, it could be 3, it's anyone's guess

Yep it's all speculation ... they could all get Free S4's and drop us tomorrow (Cough:cleanrom:Cough)
you just never know

i dont know how long they will support it but without integrating the software to fully use the camera and other software specific features i feel its a step down from the htc one experience.

CM9 RC2.....many devices getting love except

http://www.androidcentral.com/cyanogenmod-9-rc2-emerges-new-devices-stability-improvements
So its not like I didn't see it coming when samsung hired steve, but geeeeez. Samsung devices are #1 priority I guess these days. I liked it better when the love was more evenly distibuted. But its good news anyway.
I think this is more news worthy:
CM9? Bleh, who cares.
Samsung also donated some devices to the CM team a while back, and generally release source faster than HTC.
don't they also have a bigger market share?

Pretty sure Sammy is the biggest smart phone manufacturer in the world.
Honestly, the next phone I get, HTC and Sammy are battling for my money. I said after my Epic that I would never buy another Sammy phone, so I skipped the SII in favor Photon because I felt the 3D was useless. Now that I've played with the SIII and the EVO LTE I am fairly equally impressed by both devices.
It's going to come down to support and device build, who releases source the fastest and who updates the devices the best and which one builds the best feeling device.
Assuming there is an S4 and Sammy doesn't blow it, I could very well see my self getting it.

Not released yet. Still No Wifi and the RIL isn't playing nicely - as is almost always the case with CDMA devices - so No Voice or Data either.
Pretty much from what I gathered it boots and runs and that's about it.
We would get this if we had official support. We knew it wasn't coming for us.

Samsung does update quick. Ignoring the wider user base of GSM carriers, CDMA carriers such as VZW and Sprint always tend to lag behind updates. Due to CDMA restrictions that can't be open-sourced, Samsung doesn't control the entire software update and adds to the delay. Take a look at devices that were released with Gingerbread and see how many of those have ICS. Chances are they're almost all GSM devices. The HTC Rezound on Verizon came out later than the Epic 4G Touch and has yet to see ICS. The Evo 3D and Design 4G won't see ICS till next month. Besides, the Epic 4G Touch was receiving ICS leaks since early this year.

HTC One X+ a pain to Dev for.

HTC does a really bad job with sources, some of us already know that.
Some things you might want to know
1- the One X+ Can not flash a custom rom with its boot loader locked, unless of course there an S OFF method, but that's a low possibility. In other words HTC in some cases takes its time to release a boot loader unlock method. Usually they do a good job with this. What they suck at is giving Kernel sources. We won't see a custom kernel until December if the device was released in October
2- Its hard to do ports based of sense, so development could go for the worst with very little to no source and playing around with sense is not really a walk in the park
The one x+ looks like a good device. Hopefully T Mobile picks it up over here in the US soon.
Just giving a heads up.
As previous One X great Devs found a way to move on development, sure X+ will have a lot of dev!
It's not a big improvement against the One X (international) though, but after the new Nexus will be a LG, I will maybe even buy this device as my next phone and will do some stuff for it..

There's a whole series of them apparently. The HTC one looks the best. 1080p quad core s4 5 inch screen (12.7cm) and 2gb ram. Very similar specs to the lg one, but it'll have sense themes in the customization center and perhaps other interesting features.

So you're saying for someone like me who buys phones to slap CyanogenMod on, I should expect poor results with the One X+? I will avoid then.
However, does sharing Tegra 3 with the Nexus 7 benefit the One series any? Did the One X get helped by the Nexus 7? I see this kinda like the SGS1 phones getting benefit from the Nexus S sharing SoC. The SGS2 is totally screwed as you know as it still lacks hwcomposer and stuff for CM10.
Yes I could get a Nexus, but sometimes I happen to like the design of non nexus phones more. The One X/X+ are truly sexy phones to me, and as long as they're decent to develop for I'd jump in.

This could be possible but we are never sure, either way getting something like CM booting is only half the work, the real test is getting wifi, Bluetooth, GPS etc working without HTC releasing anything. The only way to get them working is work arounds. If you are a flashaholic that likes roms that are not based off stock then stay away.
If you like Sense then by all means get it
Yes totally screwed. Sammy can kiss my ***

As someone who has an HTC flyer I must say, It saddens my to hear that HTC hardware isn't an option.
HTC has some aesthetically pleasing hardware and sense itself can be pretty nice. The tablet just feels great in your hands, and has a nice screen..
It absolutely sucks that HTC lets themselves get held back by poor sources.. I'm "ok" with my tablet not having the most up to date version constantly.. I didn't sign a contract for it.. but, I really don't want a phone that I'm locked into having for 2 years to be left out for no real good reason.
Still, I'd kill to see a smooth running JB rom that is factory quality on my flyer.
Thanks for the warning.
I have a Sensation and if it wasn't for CM this thing would have been in the garbage. I'm hoping to pick up one of these and I'm sure development work for it will eventually come around. It needs some time.

Probably not officially supported, but I've seen CM7/9/10 on the Droid Inc (my first android phone) and CM9 plus currently working on CM10 on Rezound (my 2nd android phone).. AFAIK, thunderbolt has CM7 and CM9, and I can honestly see some Cyanogen in this phones future
Id like to see it but either way one has to wait for HTC to release the kernel to start original development right?

Yes there is a CM10 build available, however it does not (and probably never will) have working data. Smart phone without data equals dumb phone.
Fortunately there are a couple of talented themers who have put a lot of nice lipstick on the HTC/sense UI (EclipszeRemix) which is good but not the same thing as stock.

His device is somewhat old, so that's why he assumed that it may never have data on CM. Once a device has been out for some time, it loses support as devs move on to new devices. It's the circle of life.
There has been trouble getting CM to work on the last several verizon HTC phones. Even if they get a port working, there are usually broken features due to HTC's changes to android (camera, BT stack, etc).
I guess your best bet is that if you really have to have CM10 on your device, you don't buy the device until CM10 is working to your liking. That will save everyone alot of headache of listening to users complain about not having CM10 on a phone that no one promised it for.

Unfortunately the Thunderbolt only has CM7, which isn't officially supported. There is AOSP ICS but not by CM.
In regard to several posts within this thread, Th kerne source will be helpful but the true issue is the RIL(radio interface layer) that prevents aosp from being ported. If the RIL can be cracked we should have a fully functional CM10 build and it will likely be fully supported. I know for a fact that there are already devs working on this and S-off so hang tight guys things should get interesting. We have some awesome devs on this project already!

Htc ONE Google edition?

After Sammy announced the S4 is coming out with the "vanilla" experience, the rumor mill started going crazy expecting htc to do the same, specially after one of their execs teweeted "wait".
Those rumors where quickly scuashed when another high up in the company tweeted that no htc was not planing a "vanilla" edition... However now the same guy (geek.com) that leaked that sammy was coming out with their has said that indeed htc is coming out with one as well.
So what do you guys think? And the big question would be, if they do come out with it, would we (T-mobile) guys be able to port it over and get OTA's directly from Google?

Exactly what I came to this forum for. If they do release it, can I port it over to my T-Mobile HTC One.
Since the only device announced at I/O was the S4 vanilla edition, I decided waiting around for a Nexus wasn't worthy it. I have the Galaxy Nexus, but I never liked the plastic feel of it and the S4 feels the same way, just with way better specs.
I've always liked HTC devices going back to the Windows Mobile days.

Yeah, I worry about Google's direction to slap AOSP on pre-existing devices (S4/One so far). Sure they don't need to design, engineer and product their own phone (Nexus 4) so from an infrastructure standpoint it makes sense. But once you start porting AOSP to multiple models, it will inevitably slow software releases because Google will have to ensure compatibility with varying hardware. Also, features will be missing that will make people upset (custom camera software, beats, multi-screen, etc).
Sure they will run pure AOSP, but at what cost (feature-wise)? That has me concerned.
Unless HTC/Sammy/Moto? release their highly configured software apps (camera, etc) independently, the AOSP experience on these currently produced devices will leave a lot to be desired, IMO.

Same goes for me. I could live without the gallery (although nice), beats (there are plenty of EQ apps out there), blink feed, and many others. the one piece i could not go without is the camera software! Sequence shot alone is stellar, and some of the other zoe features are great as well.
That said i am keeping my fingers crossed that the fine devs here will be able to port the camera software to the stock rom when it hits. If that happens this phone would be absolutely perfect in my eyes!

I just want a camera that's a camera. Zoe seems stupid to me as do filters.

Zoe isn't on by default.
However, I found some pretty good uses for it. It's better than using the "action" shot setting. It's literally like taking freeze frames from high definition video. I've finally been able to get decent pictures of my dog. It's hard to get her to stand still.
The camera was the main reason that I stayed on stock but the aokp camera is actually really good

[Q] S4 vs HTC One? (3rd party support)

I'm in the market for a new device. My S3 is dying, and I want to get a new device. I am aware that the Nexus 5 and other smartphones are coming out, but they won't have the ROM maturity that I'd get from day one with either a S4 or HTC One. So, my question is as follows:
Which phone has better ROM support at this point, the S4 or the One? What I mean by support, is that which one would be more stable, and more "open". I know they are both Qualcomm, so I'd imagine they'd be equally as stable and open.
Thanks for any suggestions/advice!

Honestly, if you at all like nexus devices or aosp roms, wait for the nexus5. It's going to be like any other nexus phone and have tons of dev support right off the bat, all nexus devices do.
