[Q]Backup TA partition method of preserving DRM on unlocking bootloader officially - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I have seen xperia acro S, S and SL that backup of TA works when restoring DRM for those who unlock their bootloader officially. Will these work with xperia 2011?
I have seen a tool on xperia Z and it works there. But flashtool has this option

I don't get why you need the DRM so badly? Why don't you just unlock? I did and I've never had any problems
I'm not sure if it could work, but you could try it
Sent from my SK17i running stock ics (.587)

I really love having the full functionality of the stock rom whenever I return. That's why I'm eager to find ways to restore DRM. The problem is when TA is messed up, I will end up hard brick

If you want a hard brick try. If you succeed good for you and community too (2011 devices)
Drm does almost NOTHING except music likes and such stuff.
If you still want drm so badly unlock via testpoint. You wont lose Drm.

What I'm clarifying is what happens if I backup TA before unlock and restore TA after unlock

We don't know and so you'd be the first tester
If I were you I'd just unlock, if you wait and wait and wait there will be a time when the phone is too outdated or it's bricked and you have to buy a new phone and I guess you'll be thinking "why didn't I unlock and used one of the great roms, now it's too late"

DRM keys will be removed after officially unlocking bootloader...losing DRM keys will lost warrenty too

Yeah u can relock bootloader.. Once u unlock bootloader the DRM keys will lost & u cant put it back... If u only unlock using test point method then the DRM keys will be there..

Using unofficial unlock method keeps the DRM keys intact
So you can use TrackID,fb music Like, etc
Also, you can relock the bootloader :
Be it even if you unlocked via OFFICIAL or even UNOFFICIAL way
Hi good thing I saw this thread. Now I'm thinking if I'm going to unlock my bootloader, any link how can I put the DRM Keys back? Or is it impossible? Also, aside from I won't receive OTA Update, won't be able to use TrackID (what else if ever?), losing warranty, what else are the disadvantage? And when JB comes, is it still possible to update if my phone is rooted (Bootloader Unlocked/Kernel Different) and without DRM Keys? Or I'll be able to have it again?
AW: [Q] What is DRM keys
You can't get back your DRM keys once you unlocked officially your phone, they are lost! Unlock the boot loader via test point and you will keep your DRM.
Unlocking the boot loader doesn't result in losing warranty. Sony describes you might loose it and not you will lose it.
Gesendet von meinem Galaxy Nexus mit Tapatalk 2
However to add to motorazrv3
You simply don't unlock bl and use stock Rom and kernel
You use custom Rom n kernels and thus,Sony takes no warranty about that incase things go topsyturvy while you run that kernel or Rom

test point in unofficial method to unlock bootloader....
loosing DRM keys means u are loosing warranty... and by test point method bootloader is unlocked but DRM keys are preserved and left untouched
DRM keys is used to recognise music using track id and other fb likes,fb music likes and other sony's apps dont work...
rest everything works...
By the way DRM keys are not a big deal

s-on s-off

I rooted my Neo some time ago, but I'm not sure whether it has S-OFF. How can I check? Thanks.
I had my Neo in original GB. I rooted it using this Flashtool procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709880. And the phone is with ICS now.
May I unlock bootloader now? And how?

These are 2 methods to unlock Bootloader
1. testpoint - I used that and it's really simple
2. Officialy
I prefer testpoint so here u are --> http://androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
I would say go for official one.. because it is easy and anything official is great

Yess bro you are right.. but See basically once you unlock your bootloader and even if u again lock it, its in re-locked state and not locked state.. whatever it is.. once u unlock the bootloader you void your warrenty anyways.. so even if we lose DRM whats the big deal?
Because if that was the case then at first place we would not root the phone or unlock the bootloader.. we know what we have to face after doing it

It's not same.
lack of DRM certificate can easily be seen/spotted in service center, just by connecting phone to one program, which is not the case with "re-locked" or "un-patched" phone whose BL has been unlocked unofficialy via s1tool.

Well, if you flash fw for same region then there is no way to know that phone has been flashed with flashtool.
And if "you" are smart enough you will make backup ftf before you star messing with your phone.
Or smart enough to know how to trick SEUS or PCC to flash different fw, by editing build.prop.
Just FYI, my BL was unofficially unlocked, flashed so many times (though before service center I flashed it with correct region) and they replaced my motherboard with no problems.

There's a way in which you patch you bootloader so it becomes unlocked and with that method you don't loose your DRM keys. It's the testpoint method. Search in the development section and you'll find it.

Should I upgrade my Xperia U to official ICS?

I was very disappointed with the experience after upgrading. That's why I ended up rooting and unlocking my boot loader.
I suppose there is no way I could make a complete backup (via phone or pc) without rooting.. But if I'm wrong, make me know!
For now all I can do is thank you for your replies..! You are helping me make the correct decision =)

Flash official ics via flashtool,
It will not void your warrnty!
Sent from my ST25i using xda premium
well...i have a lot of friends with XU, most of them have upgrade to ics and few of them not. And for what it's worth the phones with GB it's surely faster, sony ics for XU it's kinda a half way between performance and ics style. You have to do by your usage, if u need a phone stable and fast don't upgrade, if u wanna ics style and functions... well you may upgrade...
If u upgrade by PC companion or SEUS or flashtool, it's possible revert only with Flashtool. But i dunno if you are going to avoid warranty!
On the PC companion you can make backup of your datas not of the firmware.
So, official ics is crappy compared to custom roms? Or is it crappy on it's own?
I've just flashed the current B.100 firmware about 2 hours ago..
So far I like it, its snappy and crisp.
I've read about others having problems with GPS, but I don't use it so its not an issue for me.

I had an idea: root, install cwm, make nandroid backup, try ics..
In case I don't like it: install cwm on ics, restore gb backup, unroot..
With this method I'll keep all the bloatware (intentionally) and get my warranty back!
Is it possible to do that?
Hi all...I have an unrooted XU and upgraded to ICS....not sure it it was the upgrade or not but the phone just randomly freezes and have to pull the battery every time to rectify....is this a known issue or anyone else know of this?

My problem is that I had a Xperia x8 with not-unlockable bootloader running GB (GingerDX) and many apps that I wanted to use were for ICS+ .. I want a later OS version because of compatibility!
So I have to upgrade to official ICS and keep warrant or root and use a custom rom..
Maybe I'll sacrifice my warranty.. I think it's not too risky since I'm used to flash roms

will it work if i lock the BL
Did you backup TA before unlocking? Walkman checks for DRM keys which is lost in the Unlocking BL process. If you did backup relock and restore the backup. And you CANNOT RESTORE ANOTHER PERSON'S TA(even if it is Xperia U also) as it will result in hardbrick.
