I'm on 1.1 pre-rooted ROM and my gmail was working OK but somehow today it stops syncing and if i manually refresh inbox it just closes. I tried clear data but no luck. Does anyone know how to fix?
Many thanks!

Ditto, Jiang. My gmail started acting flaky last night. Crashes anytime i hit refresh inbox; randomly closes whatever message i happen to be viewing or composing; and reverts to previous viewers message when refresh does happen to work.
Afraid to wipe data with titanium for fear of even bigger probe
Any takers?
Same here. Subscribed.

I have had this issue since I upgraded. I have tried clearing data, uninstalling and reinstalling, even restored a nandroid of 1.0.1 and then reflashing 1.1.0. Nothing has helped so far. Hopefully somebody else comes up with a solution...I don’t really like L8 which is what I have switched to at this point.
I have the same problem. Started when I upgraded.
Same issue. New NC with 1.0.1, used autonooter. Gmail worked fine. Then flashed pre-rooted 1.1. Gmail flaked out.
Same problem here. Gmail just started flaking yesterday afternoon after working fine for a week.
On 1.1 rooted with unofficial AN3.0.
I tried wiping data for all gapps in tibu, also tried adding same account again... all other gapps working fine.
Getting FC's when hitting Archive, and Gmail wont sync at all.
Same here, since the 1.1 r2 update, FC on open, even after data wipe.
Had the same problem with Reader, and "un install / re install" fixed it, but I'm not sure it can be done without any consequences with the gmail apps (wouldn't the google account be wiped as well causing problems?)
I use K-9 mail for now, but I'd like to get gmail running again...
Has anyone found a fix for this? My Gmail is totally hosed up and useless at this point... which just plain sucks!
I've tried reflashing all of the 1.1 gapps using CWM, then wiping data for both the Gmail app and gmail storage app, and then finall deleting the apk and replacing it via adb... but, nothing works! FC's whenever I try to archive or refresh, and shows inbox from two weeks ago... Uhgg!
My Gmail has started acting up, and won't let me delete certain emails. I try deleting them on the NC, and the gmail app force closes!
Does anyone know how I can fix the problem?

Are you trying to delete archived emails? That's when I had the problem. Had to delete from computer.
I'm trying to delete messages from the inbox. Some messages appear to sync once, but won't sync again ever, so if I try to delete, label, or archive one of these stuck emails, the app either quits or backs up. I can delete them from another device just fine, but those specific emails stay stuck and won't go away.
As a temporary fix, I'm using K9 until I can figure out how to fix it.
I'm having the same problem, rooted stock 1.1. I found that this only happens on emails that are marked as read. So if I mark the message as unread, then I can delete it just fine. This problem only occurs occasionally for me. Doesn't usually cause the app to quit for me, just fails to delete typically.
Hope this helps.
I've found Gmail to be very unstable on 1.1. I've switched to k9 and am happy with it.
I had this exact same problem on my rooted stock 1.1.
The issue did not appear until after I updated CWM from 3.0.0.5 to 3.0.1.0, including installing the kernel with ext2, 3, & 4 support. I was never able to determine with any certainty if the CWM update/kernel had caused the issue because even after restoring to a backup I had made prior to the update it didn't fix things.
I also tried uninstalling gmail and reinstalling it, but that didn't fix it either. I scoured the internet for a solution but couldn't find one. Eventually, I got so fed up that I completely restored to stock and took the opportunity to upgrade to Froyo. The problem did not carry over to Froyo, fortunately.
Nevertheless, this error shouldn't be happening on rooted stock 1.1 and it didn't for me for most of the time I used Eclair, so I'm not advising you to drop Eclair by any means. However, you might want to consider restoring to stock and starting over.
I noticed the same issue. Was not present when booted to Nookie Froyo on an SD card. I'm back to running the stock rooted OS, so I still see this GMail problem.
I'm just waiting for a good SD version of CM7 that has the market and soft keys preinstalled, preferrably that runs like it does on Nookie Froyo.
Anyone ever find a fix for this?

No, but the good news is that a stable release of CM7 (aka Gingerbread) is nearly upon us. I think pretty soon Eclair and Froyo will be obsolete as far as the Nook goes.
My solution to this was to mark as unread and then delete, the app no longer FCs if I delete that way.
However, not all emails seem to trigger this problem
Hey, guys. I've been having a little issue for the last couple of ROM flashes. Whenever I try to go to my contact links, I get a force close and the notification saying:
"The application People (process com.android.htccontacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I've cleared the data out of the People app and it still happens. I spent some time Googling and found people with a similar problem and a way to fix it, but it doesn't work for me. The workaround they had was to disable auto sync, remove the facebook sync account, go in to People, hit the "world" icon button and re-enable Facebook through there.
There is no such icon on the BAMF Gingerbread remix #5 ROM that I'm running and when I tried it with the froyo ROMs, facebook wasn't an option available to me through that tab.
Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's not the biggest deal that I can't link contacts, but it sure would be nice to have that ability again.

Are you saying that this was happening when you were on stock also, or just the button wasn't there?
It's been happening recently on non-stock froyo ROMs like BAMF and CM7. The button is there (the world button), but there is no facebook option listed like the instructions to fix the problem say there is.
same situation
Hello,
I have the same problem.
After sync I got FC on com.android.htccontacts
It is something related with linked contacts, but I didn't find a way to clear that out.
I've tried also to remove sync acounts like facebook and skype, but it didn't help.
Any ideas would be apreciated.
I am with Alpharev Hboot CM7 r2 table, Clockwork Recovery 3.0.0.5, RCMixS v2.0 Bravo CM7.

Have you been wiping everything when you flash a new ROM. I would try doing a full wipe if you haven't already and try flashing again. Those issue were with the first couple builds..sometimes can be fixed by wiping the calendar stats. If you go into accounts and sync go to each account and see which ones AREN'T actually wanting to sync up. That will narrow it down.
yea I used to have similar problems the only way to get rid of it is by reinstalling the rom but you must wype and clear all data and make sure it is uploaded to the newest radio. If that doesn't work do a restore of your original ROM and try it again but wype everything. do not do it through bootloader useClockworkMod
Hi everyone. It's been two days since the process com.google.process.gapps has started crashing, "stopping unexpectedly" whenever i use the browser on my tab.
Reading the error report, it seems (not 100% sure about that) this is somehow related to the bookmarks sync with Chrome, but i can't find a way to disable this.
Has anyone exprerienced the same issue? Any known solution? Thanks
Go to settings > accounts and sync, click on your account then uncheck everything, then manually sync everything one by one to see what is causing the error.
Then go to manage apps and clear the cache of all the problem apps and re-sync them once you're done. It might take a few tries but it should take care of that error.
I'll try that as soon as possible, thanks!
browser sync was causing this for me
I believe that bookmarks sync no long works with galaxy tab. Google changed something on their end that should have worked fine(it still works on the xoom, transformer, etc.) but since samsung changed a bunch of stuff for no apparent reason, it is now broken. samsung is so stupid sometimes..
So you're basically suggesting that bookmarks sync should stay off to avoid problems like that?
well I don't really know. I never used bookmark sync in the first place. I'm just going by what is said in this article.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/br...gle-or-the-oems/17840?tag=mantle_skin;content
It turns out that at some point Google started making some changes to the backend systems that handle Google’s user account data. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this; it happens all the time. In fact, no other Android 3.1 tablets had any issues at all with the changes, and their bookmark sync continued to work without a blip on the radar.
Not Samsung, however... I did some digging around the internet, and it’s become somewhat well-known amongst Android developers that Samsung actually modifies core source code in the Android operating system that handles communicating with Google’s backend data services.

Well, that's a pity. I had just started to think it was a useful tool to keep track of unread web pages between work, home and outside...
Let's hope Samsung somehow fixes that.
PS: disabling bookmarks sync actually stops the process from crashing, I think I've solved (if we could really say so...) the issue. Thanks to all!
Thanks, disabling auto sync for browser has stopped the error. Samsung developers need to fix this - I can't auto sync my gmail
What am I missing here?
Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Your welcome to submit answers here or PM me your phone # if you want to walk me through it on the phone. (I have a landline phone to talk to you on) Thanks in advance for everyones time and Im sorry this ended up being so long.
Hello,
Based on your post, I would suggest that you search your phone's development forum on XDA for a compatable clockwork recovery mod which will install a custom recovery on your phone. The thread will give you instructions on how to do so and how to enter recovery mode.
You can then enter the 'Backup and Restore' part of the recovery and restore your backup manually without using ROM manager. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you then download the ROM of your choice and install it from the clockwork recovery. Make sure you clear user data and wipe the cache before you install.
Any fix yet? This is really annoying me as I rely on my bookmarks tremendously.
try this:
Open stock browser and under settings choose clear cache and deletehistory
What can be the reason that when I enter gmail appon my phone, after 8 monts of normal use, it blocks my phone - screen blinks few times and than it turn of after some time !!!
Lack of information .

But this is what is happening, I don't know what to write more. It just shows 8 emails of inbox, I cant scroll, open or do anything with these. Only way to leave Gmail App is to click home button. Sometimes even that is not working. From time to time it looks like it refresh whole screen from left to right with same 8 emails. The phone is top part near camera becoming hotter during this. I am running official 2.3.4 GB.
First check if process Gapps is running or not.. Then..
Try resetting Gmail... Go to settings-> Apps -> all -> Gmail.. then clear cache/clear data... Launch Gmail again...
I've got pretty much the same problem on my S2, though it behaves a little bit different; the left to right refresh/animation is going totally crazy and when I try to leave the application using the home key it almost always opens itself again. Sometimes it doesn't refresh like crazy, instead the Gmail UI is totally unresponsive. I am running a CF-rooted stock 2.3.5 ROM (XWKI8).
EDIT: I've tried resetting Gmail, it didn't make any difference at all..
So, I am not alone. Hope someone will help. Cleared all cache and data settings, all the same. Even was taking battery of the phone for 10 mins - no result.
Is any other Google Apps running ok??. Can you sign onto gtalk properly?
What about YouTube.. Google reader etc... I am asking because.. Some background services need to be running properly for Google apps
Very very strange, my phone has started having this very issue as of today, too.
I've tried deleting the app's data, resets, battery removal, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app (rooted).
I have no idea where to go from here, so I've since frozen the app..
Edit: Might be a known issue now:
http://lifehacker.com/5895595/gmail...oid-for-many-heres-how-to-get-your-email-back
I'm having exactly the same issue. Started yesterday.
Could be related to the fact that the Google search app was updated yesterday? Or the fact that I changed my Google password. Other Google apps fine
having this exact same issue, dont know what happened, been completely fine before yesterday :S
edit: im on a Nexus S but this post came when searching for a solution.
Good to know that I am not the only one having this problem. Let's just hope that Google releases a fix soon!

having the same issue this morning on my Amaze 4g
Same problem here and I have a Galaxy Player 5. At first i thought it was because I flashed a custom rom , but this only started happening recently. Guess I have to use the stock email app in the meantime....bleh...
EDIT: checked out the gmail app from the market. clicked on user reviews and sort by newest. everyone is having this issue.
EDIT 2: the issue has been resolved, for me at least
Solved!!!
