Automatically use SSH-Tunnel on non-trused Wifi's ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, I have been trying all kind of ssh-tunnel apps in the market but none seem to be smart enough:
I want to automatically route all my phones traffic through an ssh-tunnel as soon as my phone connects to a wifi which is NOT on my trusted list.
The common "SSH-Tunnel" has a similiar future but just the other way (which makes it useless when looking at it from the security-perspective) -> it will connect to the ssh-tunnel once you connect to a wifi you selected. Which is useless, a wifi which i select is most likely trusted.. I want the ssh-tunnel on everything I don't trust
Anyone can recommend smth ?
Thanks

No one ?

I am still looking for a solution to this

thoughts on connecting through CRADLE > WIFI > GPRS in order.

hey guys heres abit of unusal question? (to be honest i dont think any of us ask any usual questions )
anyway what im trying to do is find out if there is a way to force a pda when its trying to connect to the internet to first check if internet is avaible through active sync (cradle or usb cable) then to check if WIFI is avaible then if thats not avaible to use gprs - but to use gprs as a last resort.
so the way it will work is an application needs to connect to the internet it first is forced to check for a connection through active sync if thats not avaible then to see if there can be a wifi conenction established if that fails then to connect to gprs and in the order.
i was hoping i could find what scrpits are used when the connections are established and then make a script to run the will force the device to do this.
Or even if there is a reg edit that I can do that will allow me to get this done? (would regedits be possable for this)
Id appericate your thoughts on this guys?
p.s il also go post this in the genaral networking section of the forum, as i would like to do this across board on any device (wm5/wm6)
well- i can solve half that...
you don't need a script or anything for the cradle side of things- just set activesync's Connections (File->Connection Settings->) and Uncheck "allow wireless connection on device when connected to desktop"
This wil force the device to use the activesync connection for the data.
Now- if only we could make it do that on wifi...
For what it's worth- I use NoData whenever I'm home and using my Wifi connection. It's a minor step to make sure I'm not burning up the data dollars- and the wifi is fast as heck.
dude thanks for the reply lol loveeeeee that cat you got one bad ass *****!
yeh i know about the active sync side of things,
I know it sounds silly and "why do you want to do that" kind of a question,
but im going to be supporting alot of devices and having something preform this task in that order would be a great help to me.
I dont think il get the answer for it, but hey this is XDA DEVEPLOERS!!!!!!
and mighter things have been done on this website by the users!!!!!
peace out

[Q] Internet connection problem (WIFI)

Hi all,
I got problem with internet connection on my HD2 (ROM 1.48). There are 2 ways I connect to the internet - WIFI and GPRS. GPRS connection works fine - I can download and read e-mails, make backups with MyPhone, update weather information, etc. But when I connect to the internet with WIFI, there are only 2 things I can do. I can browse web pages with Opera and update Twitter messages. But I can´t download e-mails, make backups, update weather information, etc. When I try to update or backup something, there is connection error (through that connection between phone and router is fine and web pages are running).
It seems to me like most of applications want to connect to internet via GPRS only. Is there any way to set up (or check) the phone to connect to the internet via WIFI when it is turned on?
Thanks for any advice
Sorry cant help but agree - it would be fantastic if there was some way of knowing / controlling when it used GPRS data and when it uses wifi. When wifi availabe obviously would rather use that than be charge a small firtune for data.
Any one out there about to help with this??
Internet browsing
Ditto. I can - after HUGE effort - connect WiFi but I cannot browse the internet using either Opera or IE. 2 year old Nokia connected and browsed literally within 2 secs! Also, the phone keeps connecting via GPRS all the time even with data connections off. Can anyone help? Thanks PS I know it's unproductive & forgive me, but I have to get this off my chest: this is the worst cellphone I've ever owned. Bluetooth doesn't work, internet doesn't work, handsfree car kit doesn't work. Does anything work?

Click to collapse
correction, YOUR Bluetooth doesn't work, YOUR internet doesn't work, YOUR handsfree car kit doesn't work.
Get it exchanged. (if they genuinely dont work)
@others, go to settings menu all settings connection connections advanced select networks.
there are two dropdowns, in teh top one should be the name of your mobile data, , this is what automatic progs will use to connect to the web, in teh bottom one it should be 'the internet' (or sometimes 'my work network'), meaning they use wifi if available, and data if not.
(At least thats how they should work....)
If you set the top one the same as teh bottom one, nothing should try to use mobile unless wifi is not connected.
Could be a proxy problem? some operators set up a proxy, which can screw with connections.
samsamuel: Thank you for your advice. I´ve tried it - in both dropdowns I got "my work network", but no success.
I´ve found something interessting. When I turn on YouTube client (using WIFI), I can´t play videos. That should be ok when I got problem with internet connection. But YouTube client shows on the welcome screen preview of today´s added videos. So the question is why should application download preview of video, but it can´t play the video? I´m a little bit confused
Thanks for the suggestion, but I had tried that already and it did not work. I don't think it is just my cellphone. There are many comments re the HD2 that make it clear that it does not work with a Parrot handsfree carkit, Motorola S9 headset etc, and the 2 earlier posts reveal problems using WiFi too. It seems to be problematic on many fronts. I cannot even connect it using Windows Mobile via an USB port! And while I appreciate all suggestions it seems to me that this model is a (very expensive) lemon and frustrates huge numbers of owners. I find it odd that a 2 year old Nokia N95 can connect and browse instantly and a 'smart phone' doesn't work at all. I find it to be very gimmicky. I don't need twitter, facebook etc. I need voice dial, good PC software (like Ovi and PC suite) and bluetooth that works etc. The HD2 has none of this, but great graphics of a windscreen wiper, exactly the sort of pointless gimmick that reveals that the designers were interested in making a toy and not a useful phone.
I suggest you try and install "HTC_Wi-Fi_onDemand_by_Krocher". This program will always use wifi when available and stop the GPRS from connecting and will also keep your wifi on a stand-by. Please do read through the thread as you have to make sure that no programs using wifi are activated when you want it to be off. For me it solved several problems with wifi.
Second thought is to upgrade to one of the much more stable and already tweaked OS's. There are quite a lot out and you'll find everything about that on this forum as well.
Last thought, if it does not work it must be something to do with either the settings or the OS version as for others it works absolutely fine. These are complicated phones that, much like computers, must be set and tweaked to the correct settings in order to get the best out of them. If you just want a "buy and run" phone this is not the one.
Success,
Itamar

[Q] Atrix 4g edge/2.5G issue, takes long to connect, and other issues

Hey guys,
First of all, I am new to the forum, but I have been reading it thus far. Now, I have a problem that I cannot solve. I did not find anything related with the problem I have. I need your advises and help.
I recently bought an Atrix 4g and trying to figure it out. I configured Apn connection and installed a software called 'apn on-off' to be able to disable or enable my internet. It works well, however, after enabling it, it takes so long/forever to connect the edge connection again. So I am not able to do anything online since it does not connect, or I must await a long time for it to connect again. Why am I having this problem?
Also, is there any way to manually update my programs such as weather and facebook, instead of waiting for them to automatically update themselves, which I don't want to ?
Lastly, when it connects to edge or wifi, all programs update themselves. It is annoying to me. I would like to use my internet manually, as I want it to connect whenever I want to use or click 'update', instead of connecting automatically, which is arbitrary. Is it possible? I miss my old HTC in this respect
Thanks in advance

[Q] share android lan connection over wifi

Hi folks, I hope someone can offer some words of advice.
I would like to be able to share my ethernet internet connection on my android 2.2 tablet via wifi.
I know there are various app's on phones that allow you to share your 3g connection but I have not found anything that I can actually install that will create the same sort of functionality on my tablet, most of the ones I've seen on the play store are simple short cuts giving control over the pre-existing wifi hotspot app.
What I need is the wifi hotspot itself, ie the ability to use my tablet as a router/bridge.
So any thoughts people?
Bump
Really, no comments at all, nobody?
Someone must have thought of this before me, if not does anyone know where I can find an actual wifi hotspot app not just a set of controls for the pre-installed hotspot?
Thanks
Jon
If you're talking about what I think you are, I've yet to find a way to broadcast your ethernet connection with your Wi-Fi Hotspot like a router. If there's a way to do it I'd be interested, but somehow I don't think there's a way to do it!
Beginning to think your right Wolfy. To be honest not that surprised there is no ready made to ethernet to wifi app but I thought I'd be able to find a traditional wifi hotspot that I can install on my tablet just for the sake of having a go & seeing if it works.
Amazed that there haven't been any other responses! Where are the regulars?

Disable Wi-Fi detection of poor connections / disconnecting when no Internet Access

Hi Guys,
i've got a problem with several different Android Tablet, which I use for a project inside my company.
The Tablet (for example Trekstor xintron 7 on Android 5.1.1) is connected to a special Wi-Fi Network. It is not possible to access the internet through this wifi for security reasons.
The Tablets are locked down by a Kiosk App, which forces to show an internal intranet website in Full Screen mode.
All this is working great until the Wi-Fi Service detects that there is no good Internet connectivity when using this wifi-network.
So after some hours it disconnects from my network and won't reconnect to it.
In Wi-Fi settings I can see the reason, it says something like "Network can not be joined automaticaly, there is no internet".
I know that some manufacturers UIs (for example Samsung), theres a special switch inside the advanced menu, to disable this "poor signal detection".
In my case there is no setting for that.
Does anybody have an idea how I could force my tablets into a wi-fi network without internet-access? Do you see a way to disable this "scanning for internet-behaviour" permanently? Even if i don't have the menu for this?
Any help would be appreciated.
No Ideas?
I for myself thought about 2 possible ways:
Getting the settings APP from another device which makes it possible to disable the "detect Bad wifi connection" Option. Dont know if something like this can be done, so i am hoping for the developers.
Or just find out which Servers are contacted to check if the Internet connection works, and Kind of fake the Server response...
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA Free mobile app
I am living in China and this is a huge problem. Please help. I keep getting the message "No internet access detected won't automatically reconnect. I have tried all kinds of things. My router is only two years old. I can manually connect but it will not do so automaticaly.
I got this problem too
