Make sure you're on latest twrp or cwm or don't flash aokp rom's. That should generally be it

Theres a repacked cwm touch in drv section that also has the fix.

The best is to flash recovery with fastboot to avoid the risk.
And I have aokp and no bootloop....

why can't I flash a new kernel I9100XXLPH

Hi guys can anyone tell me why can't I flash a new kernel on my I9100XXLPH (baseband version) pls see attachment for current kernel and rom.
I use CMW to flash the Dorimanx 1.7 update but it says Kernel flash failed! No zImage was found
I followed Cf root instructions and was successful
I also restored this backup from CWM recovery
Thanks!

kernel version 3.10.0-R93-AJK_v4.9_NoSwap-
[email protected] #1
copied sgh-i777 cwm v6.0.4.4zip to ext card and internal card then installed from ext and internal pulled battery then booted to recovery. Neither worked.
Thanks
I assume that the AJK kernel is your current kernel?
The recovery of these devices is a part of the kernel, so you will need to install a complete kernel to install the recovery -UNLESS- you are using an s959g.
1) Are you using an sgh-i777 or sgh-s959g?
2) Which KK firmware are you interested in installing? almost all of them link to a recommended kernel in the OP.

AJK kernel is my kernel
using an sgh-i777
AoCP-72-i777.zip
would that kernel be RenderBroken CM-11 Kernel.zip?

Honestly, I'm not sure which kernel aocp uses.
I recommend trying to flash render's cwm kernel, then reboot to recovery and see what happens.

That file-name does not correlate with the latest of Render's work.
The download link from the OP of Render's kernel thread should lead you to Mediafire, at which point you select CWM, and download the kernel.

I think you should read the OP of the AOCP rom you want to run. Read it thoroughly before you attempt anything at all - it tells you exactly what kernel will work with their rom.
Conversely, AOCP is no longer supported for our device! So that means you'll be on your own should you run into any problems.
There are several KK roms around that are current and fully supported - you'd be better off going with one of those.

[Q] How to update recovery and install Beanstalk

Hello everyone,
Today I tried to install a new rom on my Samsung Galaxy SII I9100 but I got some problems.
I had already rooted my phone and installed Philz recovery.
The problem is that I keep getting the same error: status 7. I saw I need to update my Philz recovery but I don't understand how to do that. Can someone help me with that? After I update the recovery I want to install the rom Beanstalk with Google Apps is this compatible?
Thanks in advance for your help!

place both the zip file the cwm one as well as the KK rom (beanstalk in your case) on ur phones internal sdcard.
then reboot to philz recovery and first flash the CWM zip and then again reboot back to recovery.
Do all the wipes using the latest CWM recovery as per the install instruction on the Bean stalk thread and flash the rom.

Try installing a slim/micro/mini gapps package. The gapps package you are trying to flash requires more space as there are more apps associated to it. The packages I mentioned has only the essential gapps for your system. You can search for them on xda.

yes it is, (just flashed this recovery from CM recovery and installed cm 12.1 nightly)
For my I9100 it doesn't work. After the flashing of the Philz recovery I've installed the last CM12.1, and the CM recovery has overwrote the Philz recovery. The same issue of ever.
Note that the option "update recovey" in the setting menu isn't active.

You'll have to reflash Philz every time you update
BTW, there's an updated TWRP recovery out, I recommend to use this one instead: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347833059
