Not reading 64gb microsd - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just got a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1. Running Hyperdrive RLS2. I am intermittently getting a message that the SD Card is being checked for errors, and when I try to browse to the external sd card through a file explorer it is not recognizing the sd card. Sometimes it does read the card. I know on earlier phones, 64 GB cards were not compatible without formatting to a certain format. Is there a format that I need to use for the gs4?

It depends on the kernel you are running. For example faux kernel won't read exfat, which is what the newer sd cards are formatted in.

You have to format it on the PC. You can try this program > tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/

this program worked for formatting my 64gb sd card to fat32.

Be cautious of fat32 on 64gb cards. Data corruption over time can occur. Happened to me. There is an init.d script over in the gs3 section that will let open source ROMs read exact cards. Using it on my s4 currently with aokp. Just make sure you make a .mounthere file containing /storage/sdcard1 and it will work on s4

Is there a way to use NTFS on SD card in GS3?

I have read that some kernels allow sd card to be formatted NTFS and mounted to use in Android. Is this true? I would like to use my new 64gb sd card to copy large files using NTFS. What about xFat? Does Android recognize this?
ExFat works fine. My 64 GB card was recognized right out of the package.
Will exfat let me copy large files say 5-10 gigs each? Fat32 of course does not. Sorry for noob questions. Thanks for info.

Exfat does work with large files. It might not work with non stock kernels though.

(HELP) Anyone having issues mounting 64gb sandisk sd card on S III

Hi there guys
I have been having a problem with 3 sandisk 64gb micro sd cards. I always got them replaced but it is getting frustrating now. Obviously they are formatted in exfat format.
The problem starts when I copy data of over 30 gb. Once i copy the data n the sd is remounted or the phone is restarted i always get the message "damaged sd card" but when i read the card on pc through an adapter it shows the contents ok. So i want to know if anyone can help me so that I may not need to return the card this time around...

Try to format it first in the phone, then start loading data on it.

I also tried it buddy but none of the methods seem to work .. i also tried formatting it then copying data through sd card reader as well as the phone itself... does it have to do anything with some file system issue or kernel related issue... im on stock kernel rooted...

also had the same problem. i formatted the card to fat32 with 32xxx sectors with "GUIFORMAT" app for windows, the it works ok.
then after fat conversion, you can try to format the card to exfat using any app (not the windows one) search google, then it might work, didnt try myself as fat32 works great, and i can use it with the script that makes the card the phone memory, so now i got 64gb instead of 11.6gb of phone storage

where formatted?
how much fully card with data?
witch rom, kernel?
I have the class 10 64Gb Sandisk sd card too with no problems.
Card has about 55Gb info on it and I didn't format the card. Just put it into the phone. Recognised instantly and haven't looked back.
I have a 2nd SGSIII too with a 64gb class 6 sandisk sd card. Same applies but with a little less data on it.

64gb SD card ... getting "damaged card" error.

Just bought a new sandisk 64gb card. When I try to mount the SD card I get "damaged card" notification in my status bar. I selected it and it gave the option to format. I did but to no avail. Will this ROM support that size?

I ran into the same problem before. Sadly, the Note does not support 64gb sd cards. The max that you can get is 32gb, unless someone out there can prove me wrong.
Been running a 64GB samsung card in my I717R since release date without issue. I did originally format the card in another phone.
If you need help please use the correct forum. Moved
Is the card formatted to NTFS ?....or FAT32?
also ....is the card an SDXC card ?
Been reading for a bit to attempt helping, and the card should function fine if first formatted to FAT32, but as stated by agoattamer ..cannot be done by the usage device.
Perhaps via card reader and PC ?
Hope it helps a bit ..g

I am using a Rogers branded Note with stock ICS. I purhcased a 64GB Sandisk MicroSD a while back. Out of the box, it would not work, as the card was formatted in exfat. I had to format it to FAT32 first.
Unfortunately windows 7 did not allow this.. I think the card was too big. So I had to google how to, and used a free utility to do it (sorry, I do not recall the name of the app).
Works great now
I did find a fat32 software that works. I only got 59.45gb out of it. I used 32768 for the allocation size.
Would a larger allocation size get me the full 64gb available?

You won't ever get the full 64GB. It is just how it is. Check your hard drives on your computer and you will find the same result.

How do I set up Filesystems to use SD Best?

How do I set up the phone to make maximum use of the SD card? For some reason now I can't make good nandroid backups to the SD card, I end up with empty folders with bad dates (1970?). So I am carrying a nandroid on the internal memory for now, and that chews up 4+ gb.I would want as much as possible to go on the card, camera, music, etc.

recovery doesn't play well with sd cards formatted in the exFAT file format. if you reformat your sd card to fat32 then recovery will work no problems and your phone won't know the difference.
two words of caution; backup your sd card before formatting since formatting erases all your data, there is a file size limitation in fat32 that you cannot have a file with a size over 4gb. you can have folders that have more than 4gb in them, but it will have problems if you have a movie file over 4gb in size.
i have a 64gb sd card that was originally formatted in exFAT and recovery wouldn't write to it. backed up the card, reformatted to fat32, copied everything back and now recovery backs up to the card just fine.

Thanks! Was trying to remember the name of that app. I have a 32gig card coming in on Wednesday and can't wait to try it out.
Caching GMusic alone is worth it.

I went and got the premium version via in app purchase so I can just choose the main folder to mount and not every sub folder.

Be careful formatting 64gb cards to fat32. After a while they have data corruption issues. My SD card started failing had to go back to exfat. Twrp has excellent ex fat support

[Q] External sd card problem after aokp flash

So I recently rooted my Verizon Note II, rooted with casual and twrp. I flashed the milestone version of aokp and for some reason cannot mount my external sd card. I get an error message that says "sd card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem". The sd card was working fine on my rooted phone before flashing aokp. Any ideas?

Its my understanding some Roms dont support exFat, a file system format used by SD Cards. you should try backing up the data and then formatting it to fat32.

thanks for the advice. It seems like aokp can reformat the card itself, but I'm a little afraid to let it try. I was also just reading about using siyah kernal and another thing called vold-exfat that lets you use an exfat formatted card. I think I'm gonna do one of these two things but it seems easiest to let aokp reformat my card if it will actually reformat my 64gb sd to fat32. I haven't been able to find out what it will reformat to though... very confusing

It won't reformat a 64GB card right. Download something likr EaseUS or another formatting tool. There is one that is posted on XDA quite a bit but for the life of me I can't remember its name.
