I've been using it a few months, never have any issues with it.

Seems to be different for everybody, I've had no problems using it since January

[Q] Are gingerbread roms stable now?

Hey guys, I was wondering if Tue gingerbread ROMs for the thunderbolt were more stable now than they have been in the past. I was looking to flash to one a couple months ago but saw a lot of people saying there were issues. If so, any recommendations on one to try? Thanks
I've asked that question a few days ago. I'm using uberbamf pre3 as my daily driver. & It's just in preview stage. The same as stock on battery life. I'm in love with it. I just rooted and haven't flashed anything else. I hear synergy is good too for daily driver.

They are most definitely stable for a daily driver. The only known issue that bugs me (and this is across every single GB ROM) is voicemail notifications. But this can be remedied if you use Google Voice or if you never get voicemails (like me!)

I have the 2.07.605.0 RUU, its great, been using it for over a week, wifi works well, flash works well, I have the seidio 3200 extended batt, and have not yet rooted again however, just as a couple notes,/ fyi.
i suggest using Synergy as whenever i get bored with AOSP stuff i'll always put Synergy back on.
why go back to Sense if you'e into AOSP you may ask?... well that's easy. the Mario Lock Ring !
I like sense a lot. So I am not planning on going to a AOSP ROM. What do you guys mean by daily driver?

It means something you can rely upon for daily use, rather than a totally unstable alpha rom that crashes constantly meant for testing.
I have been using the Synergy rom as a DD for about 2 weeks now. I probably reboot every 2-3 days for one reason or another, usually rom misbehaving in some aspect. But other than that it works great. All features fully functional, and it runs fast. The homescreen carousel can get a little choppy on occasion, but actual web browsing is very smooth and the screens flick at 60fps.

[Q] You guys having the same problem with Synergy?

Ive noticed when I flashed the synergy rom it was very lag and the 3D was annoying and I could not turn it off.
As well the font of the apps looked very blurry like.
Is it just me?

Synergy uses Ziggy's kernel. Lately, his kernels have been plagued with lag and other issues, in my opinion. Chingy's ROMs use the same kernel and had the same issues. I couldn't make the lag go away except for using the performance governor, which I don't consider a viable solution to any performance problem. Whatever he does to screw up the governors also makes them impossible to modify. I switched to Imoseyon's, then DreamKernel. Both performed better than Ziggy's as far as lag, and both registered better benchmarks; between 200 to 400 better on Quadrant using the same ROM and nearly identical clock speeds. Ditch Ziggy's and try Imoseyon's kernel. I think you'll see much quicker response.

I just went back to Gingerbread Build 2.11.605.3 for the "Ultimate" Stock Experience.
I just have not found the right ROM for me yet I guess
Thanks for the help

FrankenROM... I mean Synergy, isn't for me either. If you're looking for an excellent Sense experience, BAMF is at the top of that game as far as features and performance goes. Th3ory ROMs aren't bad, and neither are Chingy's Gingeritis ROMs once you get that POS Ziggy kernel out of there.
BAMF Forever has been the best ROM I have used to this day. Smooth, very functional, and visually pleasing. Plus the Batman Easter egg is pretty sweet.
I have a question though if anybody cares to give a suggestion. I was thinking about trying a custom kernel with Forever, but I'm not sure which one to try: Lean or Dream. I'm also wondering if I would be better off leaving well enough alone. Anyone?

I've used both Imoseyon's and Dream with Forever. Both perform very nicely. I'm not sure I could even say one is better than another with any certainty. I haven't tried Lean with the smartassV2 yet. I haven't had any real issues that weren't related to radios. For some reason, depending on the radio, the screen doesn't come back on every now and then. Maybe it is the kernel, but I haven't seen anyone else talk about that issue.
Yes! I thought it was just me - I liked everything about Synergy except how it ran. I experienced the lag too and it was just really glitchy for me. But I loved how it looked - maybe I should give it another try with a different kernel.....

Time to scrap the TB?

When the TB first came out it felt very snappy, very smooth and fairly quick. Rooted it and after some time it just seems to have no hope and I dont know why. I have flashed almost every Rom out there and it seems to work fine for a little bit and then within a week it is back to its VERY laggy performance. When the S3 came out, I got that and my wife wanted my TB. She is getting tired of me playing around with the phone and trying to get a performance fix and just wants a new phone. Should I try to unroot it and run it stock for her? Otherwise she may look at the moto razr M or the inc 4g. (not a phone I would have, but its not up to me)
The phone slowing down may be certain apps impacting performance, so you may want to look into that. Also if you haven't already I would ditch sense based roms and give AOSP a try.

The aosp ICS is snappy but a few things don't work. I haven't tried there sense version but heard good things.
The Gnex is a free upgrade btw

In my opinion, sense based roms are slower & have more lag than than others. It is pretty much up to you, or your wife, to let you know what she wants. I was really looking forward to trying out the newest AOSP 4.0.4 ICS by twistedumbrella. Have you tried this yet? I haven't been able to get past the "bootloop" but it seems that some are & some aren't. I believe you'd love the rom if it works on your TB.
Keep in mind all aosp liquid/twisted builds the video recording does not work. Knowing most women camera and camcorder is a must lol.

This is some good advice for the OP. I recall running a deodexed 2.7 or something a while back that would probably work well for the OP. It is sense based but it was very stable and everything works.

If she's looking for something that is smoother with less lag then stock definitely won't bring her that. If you're able, I'd look into getting a newer phone. The Thunderbolt is at its end of life.

[Q] Hyperdrive or Synergy ROM?

Hey guys,
In terms of speed and battery life, which one is a faster ROM? And for someone who has tried both, which did you prefer? I've nothing personal against Hyperdrive, but I'm just exploring options. I've gotten more comfortable with the flashing process and I'm looking for the best. And if it's not one of those two, what's the best out there for a Verizon GS4?
It's a tough call. I never tried hyper. It was the 1st rom to come out and I wanted to become more familiar with TW before flashing and by then cleanrom came out. I tried synergy. It is fast and has a couple awesome tweaks built in like all apps working with multiwindow without a separate app which is nice. I have found cleanrom to be the most stable and smooth. Your results may differ. Try them all and see what works best for you

Oh I see. I was actually looking into CleanROM earlier. I was thinking that the features were a bit short though, or is that just me? It seems like it's hiding a lot more than that!

Yeah, they are but it isn't meant to have all the latest and greatest mods. It is purposely built as a debloated stock rom with some tweaks for speed. If you want features galore, hyper is for you from what I hear.

As every phone, every user, every setup, every signal, every way of installing is different the only way YOU can find out which has better battery life and speed for YOU is if YOU try it. Just make a nandroid backup and take each for a test drive for a few days.
There can be no definitive answer for these questions.

Speakerphone echo

So wife has a note i717. Prevents me from flashing 800 ROMs a week to try different options. Took me a year to convince her to root.. Would like to know what date cm changed code and got the echo. Was it at the 4.2.2 release? Read somewhere that it happens in April. Does black star suffer the same issue? Does black star offer lockscreen shortcuts if it doesn't? What about cm9.

I am not a developer, but I think codes can change quite regularly. I don't think the echo is due to the code, I think it is limited to a ROM or 2 and last I check, the OP stated the in the list of problems. not sure of solution, I think most suffered from it with speakerphone on.
4.1.2 was a release........4.2 is pretty much a tweak of a release merging several different sources together. the ROM's which have the echo issue are 4.2 ROM's and use a CM Kernal. that may be where the issue is. the 4.2 ROM's are AOSP. many have had fixes to various problems by flashing an alternate Kernal.
go to the thread for what ROM you are running, you didn't say, but I can guess. any alternate Kernal may be ROM specific, so consult your thread. reading your post is leading me to think your not reading yourself.
THE 4.1.2 ROMS are Touchwiz and do not suffer echo
good luck
Blackstar jelly beta doesn't seem to have any bugs been running a few weeks no issues what so ever if you want a reliable phone stick with 4.1 I seem to not be able to find 4.2 quite there yet
Goodluck

That's to bad. It seems that the only problem with cm10.1.2 was the hw overlay thing and the speaker echo. I love that Rom on my HTC rezound. Seems some of the devs leave out known bugs.
Thanks for all the help.

All CM and AOSP based ROMS have had this problem for a while. This is another big reason why I switched back a TW based rom...everything works. I use speaker phone often and the distant end parties would complain that the speaker audio was unusable....
Really sux!
So forgive the ignorance but is it that only one mic is working and not noise cancelling the echo like it should? They found a solution for that on my phone. Just not sure if the fault is the same.

As far as I know it hasn't. I've been looking everywhere for a solution. I'm going back to ICS until I can get a new phone.

I found a 4.2.2 ROM that does not have the echo. It's the ParanoidKANGdroid ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216645
Download the Previous Release from April 13th. That was the older CM kernel before the echo.
The only real problems I found were that the Apollo and Camera/Gallery apps sometimes crash.
I just took the Gallery2.apk from CM 10.1.3 and it fixed it. I'm about to try to take the Apollo.apk from it as well.
