[HELP] Rezound overheating - HTC Rezound

Ever since I got my rezound, it overheats whenever I'm actually using it for apps. Phone temps normally are around 33°C-36°C but my phone gets up to around 45°C under load. Any tips on a fix or anything? I read somewhere updating radios was supposed to help, but it didn't.

Call Verizon and get a new one as it is a known issue. No fix on user end.

Keep calling and complaining about the same issue. You probably can eventually get a newer more expensive device (only refurbished).

Damn
Damn, that sucks. I bought it on Craigslist, so no warranty

I was about to ask too, but I got mine for free, so no warranty.

Replacing wont help either, I have had over 7 rez's same problem.
Are you Stock or custom Rom?
If your on a custom Rom, try one of Snuzzo's kernels
It helps
Mine even gets up past 55c when using skype

I've found that lowering the Max frequencies of both cores a bit delays the effect somewhat.

[SURVEY] Gingerbread Bootloop

*This thread can not solve, prevent, or explain bricking and is more about bootloops and random reboots than permanant damage*
In reading over a couple threads about bootloops I have noticed a few common occurances:
Tethering
Overclocked
Long charge time
And all these things have one factor in common. Heat. Given computers go into boot loops when they heat up too much, this got my attention.
My current setup is the lowest voltages I could get the phone to run at, overclocked to 1.2 on battery only, and stock during battery use. It is also set to disable EVERYTHING but texting and calls during screen off. I do not tether and when it gets hot I put it in standby until it cools off.
SetCPU does offer a tempurature feature, which is why I am curious to know how many people with issues had hot phones at the time...?
Edit: I have read the possible EMMC (not sure if I have that right) getting fried. I have not experienced the permanant loop and this is not the issue I am trying to study. Please refer to the brick threads for that issue.

I didn't have the bootloop issue I! have noticed when my phone rebooted on me it was hot. ever since I stick my phone in the car AC plus I live in Phoenix and that doesn't help my phone

I tethered a ton today with 4G on my phone and pulled 15 GB through it in 5 hours. Rebooted 3 times total and heated up a ton. Seems normal otherwise though (froyo stock rooted, reverted from the leak yesterday)
THE "bricked" bootloop issue is directly related to the emmc in my opinion, and that of others I respect.
It is likely due to substandard chips being used in some production runs.
Use of some firmware may accelerate the failure.
If heat was truly the case how come Froyo bolts aren't randomly going into the bootloop of death?
I would imagine people running Gingerbread flash roms far more often, putting more strain on the inferior memory chips as they are written far more than others.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I had a similar experience when my touchscreen went out in my first TB
So I believe it's a hardware failure as well because my old TB acted as people are describing with these bricks minus the hboot reboots
So EMMc makes sense
Tho I still not reverting to froyo
>--The Game--<
Regardless of the EMMC issue, I still think heat is something people need to take notice of.
Personally I use SetCPU to warn me when I've gone too high (45C), which immediately unclocks (and subsequently undervolts) the phone.
Don't be burning up them Bolts now

Sorry OP as this is way off topic. Thanks for contributing to Verizon's decision to go to a tiered data plan like CrapT&T.

Even tho i agree that we shouldnt be abusing the 4g speeds, whats the point of advertising unlimited data if its not unlimited? He paid for that service, and hes using it, i dont see the big issue myself. I use my 4g tethering for netflix on the pc's at home and it uses quite a bit of bandwidth im sure.
Sorry jcase your rite about the chips probably but my phone hit 124. Not overclocked on 2.2 I run of at 1920. It never got above 115

I strongly doubt it. I feel like this issues is going to be spread out. There are multiple people running "day1" phones that are rooted and booted w/ the GB radio that haven't had issues, and many are reporting the "good" EMMC ID.

Bricked is happening on some phones, but reboots and bootloops have been happening on ALL phones. This was simply a survey of heat to prevent bootloops and random reboots, not an attempt to resolve the brick issue.

QFT... however, its unlimited for 1 device, not for tethering.

Calling Verizon about these issues.

Has anyone tried calling Verizon about these issues? If so, what did they do about it?
They shouldn't be giving out the same phone, when the problem isn't hardware, it's software, and all the phones they send out will have the same software which won't make any difference.

..........what issues
The slowness, the crashing, etc.
I'm on #6 from Verizon's "certified like new" replacement program. I've told them every time it is defective hardware that the device is shipped with and there's no way they can physically "repair" it. They say that they cannot do anything about it but ship me another "certified like new" replacement phone of the same model.

i have never had my phone crash on me or random reboot.
slowness is relative, for the most part the supercharger script fixed the issues I had, but yes we need 2.3 to fully take advantage of both cores
Device1: Issues with 3g and wifi
Device2: Hardware screen problems
Device3: Would no activate, randomly shut off while trying to activate. Activated via website, couldn't make calls.
Device4: Receives multiple SMS messages and a pixel is out on the screen (after 1 week use)
Device5: Same problem as device 3.
Awaiting device 6. I haven't had the best of luck with the DroidX2. I'm really wanting to take advantage of the dual core greatness when GB finally hits, but I'm very very tempted to switch over to an Inc2.
Opinions?

you could switch but then you will just find problems with the inc2...not trying to be a smartass its just how it is unfortunatly
only device i was ever 100% happy with was my N1 and NS...everything else made me wanna bash my head into the wall
Am I the only one who hasn't had any real problems yet? I did only get it 2 weeks ago, but so far the worse that has happened was 1 random reboot which seemed to resend an old text to my friend. Since then though no issues. Especially since rooting it.
I tried calling them and they said if I have the problem again, they will do their best to get me into a different device, although this phone was a replacement for my Fascinate so I'm highly doubtful they will do much about it.

This is a pretty crappy phone out of the box. It took the v6 script to make it bearable. Would be nice if Motorola did it out of the box. I felt like I was using my old G1 for a while instead of a dual core phone.
Out of the box I had so many problems it wasn't even funny. I had reboots, crashes, force quits like mad... all of it related to motoblur (I'm almost certain of that). Before the full hour of ownership passed, I had finalized my research, rooted, scripted, froze, and replaced every component I could safely. Since then I haven't seen any problems. My battery lasts for about three days and barely even gets down to 60%. Three weeks into ownership, not one hiccup since the zero hour.
So, before I did anything with the phone... it sucked out of the box... and it always will until Motorola pulls their head out of their asses.

I got my Droid X2 the day it came out, and have had zero problems with it that were unbearable. Occasionally it does reboot randomly, but it's like whatever, it does it once a week maybe. The battery is incredible, I can last a fully day if I do nothing but play heavy games and/or other heavy usage. I haven't had any force close issues, and it sure as hell isn't slow.

I also have to say you are lucky! I got it online day one and was having an amazing amount of reboots and really just plain horrible performance. I was begging for my HTC Hero200 with CM7 till I rooted the phone got launcher pro & put on the V6 script. Since then things have been slightly better than the Hero but I was expecting so much more!

Verizon doesn't care... why? Cuz they already have our money... so its technically our own fault because we keep giving Motorola another chance and keep buying these phones.... and why bash the dinc2 ? It already has s-off so they are running custom roms as we speak. I will never buy another motorola product espicially after what they just pulled with the Droid 3.

Battery Jumps

I have been wandering around XDA now for about the last 3 months looking for my problem and no one seems to have the same issue...
When my battery gets down to 20%, it immediately jumps to 15%.
I'm not new to this, I've tried several ROMs and several kernels. I got the firmware patch hoping that the issues would go away. I've had random battery ups and downs.. sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, but never consistent and acceptable. When I say "good" I'm referring to about 6 hours of very light use.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.
Currently running CleanROM DE with Firmware patch.

I have a 3.7... But this is my second battery, the first one was a 3.8...
It did not do it when I bought it stock, or even when I started rooting it. It started after about the 3rd ROM I put on it, and I've never been able to get rid of it. It does get hot, but its not really out of the norm.. (most dual core phones with 4g are going to get warm, 4g takes an extreme amount of energy to use)
I can't believe this hasn't been brought up earlier... I was only hesitant to bring it up in development because I didn't want to be accused of not using the search button.

It has been brought up, but people said that it's a bad battery. I'm not convinced it's battery, I think there's something more going on. It happened to me, stock, out of the box, and with multiple batteries.
Here's a thread I posted about this a few months ago-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514134
Run the battery down until the device powers down on its own, this will not hurt the device or battery. Keep the phone off and let the battery charge up fully. Do this a few times....

Just read your post... you're right... not much help there. And I agree, I can't see a brand new battery that's never been used or re-calibrated showing the same "symtoms" as the old battery. It has got to be something not hardware related. All my brothers have Rezounds and I actually let one of them use my battery and it didn't do it in their phone, so a bad battery is out of the question I think.

The one I swapped with has the same exact ROM as I do as well as the same kernel. The only difference may be his recovery. I think he has one version newer Amon Ra than I do... but I've been using the same recovery since the beginning, and it started doing this well after flashing that recovery.

using primarily 4g, no wifi (N when I do), no powersave mode. Thinking back, it started with the first ROM that had powersave mode. Since then I've always disabled that feature hoping it would go away, all with no luck.
It never did it when it was stock, I certainly don't want to revert it back to check now. Haven't checked when initially setting up after a flash, so I don't know if Google affects it at all.
Haven't tried a different SD card. Though I may take it out and see how it behaves after I do a dead charge on it.

It's not your SD card. Your SD card has nothing to do with your battery jumping, I promise you. If I had to guess, I'd say it's something with the kernel, but what do I know. It should be more wide-spread if it's the kernel.

For sure, but why would that cause either inaccurate battery readings, or massive power drain? It's actually not really clear which one it is, of those options, but it'd have to be absolutely enormous power drain to go from 25%-14% in a short period. So how would a SIM or SD card cause inaccurate battery readings? I ask because I have no idea, not being snarky.

Holy hell Batman at the Battery Drain!

Is anyone else getting Android OS around 50-60% battery use?
I have tried every ROM included going back to stock. I have ran the phone with nothing but Stock and no apps installed for a day and still get the same drain so I can only assume its a kernel issue.
I am not familiar with LG products in the slightest, but I had a yellow screen of death the other day...something I have never seen in my years with samsung android products. Anyone have any idea what this is maybe it is pointing to a hardware issue?
LG made a great phone, but I don't think I will keep it much longer. Locked boot loaders, no sources, and history of terrible updates have me regretting purchasing this phone. I tried my hand at building a working jb release when I first got the phone and it is going to take a skill set I do not have and I hate waiting on a company to do what they've never done in the past..

Easy, brother. I have only had one of my apps/utilities run higher than AndroidOS ever on this phone; however, that said, I think there is a problem with the way it's being calculated. I'm getting really good battery life with good sleep and still AndroidOS shows the highest by far. I know that's abnormal for it to be so high and still get good battery life, but it is what it is.
Edit: you've installed the fast dormancy toggle, right? As for the yellow screen, I've seen it once in my two months with the phone, just rebooted and carried on. Forgot what they said it was...but it is here in this forum somewhere.

I was just about to post something similar. Andriod OS being high kind of makes sense if nothing else is using the battery, although you would expect that number to fall significantly with increased screen on time and heavy app usage, which it doesn't ever seem to.
I've been having horrible battery drain lately. I'm currently traveling for business, and just use my OG for web surfing and stuff when I'm in my hotel. I leave the phone in airplane mode, with WiFi on. About two weeks ago, when I was on The Base 0.4 in that same configuration, my battery would drain maybe 1% an hour while I was sleeping.
Recently I've been on The Base 0.7.3, and my battery drains over 5% an hour while I'm sleeping. This means no screen on, no apps running, and even turning WiFi off! How does it use that much battery when it's not doing anything? Now, I'm not entirely sure what kernel I'm running. The first time I installed The Base 0.7.3 I used sk8's kernel. After getting poor battery life, I reflashed 0.7 and 0.7.3, this time choosing the freegee kernel. I'm not actually sure if the kernel changed though.
Anyway, I think I'll post again tomorrow with some screenshots from Better Battery Stats+ and CPU Spy.
I'm wondering if this recent botched update had the battery fixes we need. Hopefully they'll re-release it soon.

When I would get bad drain, which has happened several times, I could narrow it down to a couple things in order to solve the problem.
In my case it would always happen after installing Google+. Uninstall and reboot would usually fix the issue. If I got drain on a fresh install without g+ installed, I found that if I installed the 2.2 kernel separately as a stand alone zip, that would fix it. Don't know why but it may work for you too.
I don't have screen shots, but today I recharged at 38% after 3:10 of phone use and 1:55 screen on time and about 15 hours off charger. That's with Wi-Fi on the whole time and Bluetooth for about 9 hours. I have my work exchange account on active sync with push notifications. Facebook and Twitterer to 4 hour intervals. I'm underclocked to 1350 and using powersave gov with deadline.

Believe you are correct. There were issues on the Samsung Infuse and even the international SGS3 for a while... it was referred to as 'memory leak.' Has been worked out by devs on XDA. You can put memory leak in the XDA search above... it's above my pay grade.
Edit: It's great to see another RD here... hope you will reconsider keeping the phone and stay !!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have Google+ uninstalled, but part of me thinks Google Now may be partially the culprit (although why that would be the case with all radios off, I don't know).
I'll try a fresh install of the 2.2 kernel and see if that helps. Thanks.
I can't speak for anyone else but FDT did wonders for my battery life. I was only able to go about 12 hours prior to disabling FD.

This is good for sure... it's just that compared to other phones, Android OS and Android System should not be that high.

^^^ This is indeed worth considering.... I think the question then becomes why is it consistent among the 3 roms we are using? Maybe when JB source is out and something is built from source all will be good.

I would be less inclined to believe it is a faulty measure if we had a different ROM not built off stock (AOKP/CM10) that could produce different values. However, I seriously doubt anything built into either of the two custom ROM's is geared toward normalizing that reading. That's why they are both the same as the stock AndroidOS percentages. Jivy is probably right that it's a kernel issue. With the size battery we have, imagine the potential if it is a true reading (androidOS out-of-control) and we can get it under control down the road. We're talking double the current best battery life you've ever had on this phone at the very least.

Get BetterBatteryStats, select Since unplugged and Alarms to see what is waking the device (making it not go into a deep sleep). eBay was a big culprit for me.
The wakelock that keeps the phone awake during background data transfer (screen off) lasts 6 seconds (I am guessing it does it in multiples of 6s) regardless of how long the sync takes. Everytime email, facebook, gmail, drive, picasa, twitter, g+, google maps, ebay, calendar, contacts.. whatever wakes the phone to check something, it will be a minimum of 6 seconds.. This adds up over the course of the day and it is counted in the Android OS. Shut down syncs you don't absolutely want/need and this number will go down. All phones with the Snapdragon S4 Pro has it, especially the Nexus4. It seems they've done some kernel work to fix/reduce it but I havent really looked into it since I don't have that phone. I've seen complaints in the Droid DNA forum as well.

Anyone else experiencing scrolling lag or delay. Clearing cache and wiping dalvik fixes it but the issue returns after about two days.

Worst galaxy ever?

On paper this is the best galaxy s ever, we all know that, but I have had this phone for 2 weeks now, and I have had the worst android experience on any phone, I had owned every phone on the galaxy s line since the beginning.
I haven't seen any phone with more lags or software flaws than this one.
To begin, the wakeup lag, sometimes more than 10 secs for the phone to wakeup.
The sd card read/write lag, I change my sd card to a Samsung top notch one, and the lag is still noticeable.
Memory issues, I recreates thisnissues in may ways, open up a game (plants vs zombies 2) play for a couple of mins, lock the phone, and see if you can weke it up.
I noticed a bit more smotthnes after the updatw but still the performance on this phone is just awful.
I hope this is an isolated issue, but I have seen a lot of people complaining about the lag as well.

Forgot to add the connection issues, I use the subway a lot, I have to put the phone in airplane mode and off to get reception back after getting off the subway, otherwise it will not refresh the connection by itself.

Me too. I can't tell you how many problems I've had with this phone. That's just one of the many.
I don't have any of these problems. Maybe its crapware your carrier loaded that's restricting it?

Yes, it might be a "T-Mobile" version problem, I am pretty sure this are software related problems, I would like to see it running on a vanilla version of android, it has to be TouchWiz messing it up, but anyway, this had to be thoroughly tested before releasing it to the public, shame on T-Mobile/Samsung, hope a fix is on the way.

Try using the international stock roms. On the S4, those were MUCH better that the US version roms. I know it requires rooting, but you'll probably be happier and it doesn't really matter if you're outside your return period anyway.
I don't have any of those problems either.

Great phone, no issues, where did you buy yur phones?
I've had the phone for a while now and it hasn't lagged once, the fingerprint scanner works over 90% of the time, and signal is good as well. Yeah, the HR monitor is a total gimmick, but to say this phone is "the worst galaxy" is a bit extreme.
So either I got extremely lucky and got 2 phones without any problems, or some people are getting unlucky with their purchase.

I have a feeling most of it is a T-mobile problem. However, I have a friend on another carrier (I think it's Verizon) and he hates his as well. Tons of problems.
i got no problem with mine S5, just love it.
I have the mysterious lag screen problem on wake!

Sometimes, no matter what I've tried, I'll be using the phone and let the screen turn off, When I push the home button, nothing, the phone is still running but I can't see anything, I try to use the power button and again nothing, I have to pull the battery and restart the phone to get it working. There is a group of people that are experiencing the problem and at first people thought it may be SD card related but it is not conclusive at this point. It will work fine sometimes for days, then all of a sudden pull the above mentioned crap.
Exactly, onlast Sunday every time I locked the screen it would never wakeup, I had to remove the battery like 3 times, it has been OK for the las 2 days though, but this is frustrating, I mean, I haven't even rooted the phone yet, I read that 4.4.3 is on its way, hope that addresses these performance issues.

Yes I agree this phone is very laggy specially the camera they send me a "new" phone and the problem still there, also i usually charge it at night
and this morning the screen was on the boot screen logo i had to remove the battery it sucks
So, I keep researching the reasons of why some of us have this issues, today I went to the "t-mobile my account" app, went to options and deselected all the options (ALL OF THEM), and I notice the fun is a lot smoother, probably the placebo effect, but I will keep trying for a couple of days, if you guys want give it a try.
No issues here, touch wood, using T-Mobile phone on AT&T network.

I've only had the phone for about a week but it's amazing so far, I upgraded from a S2. I play Ingress constantly and lately I've been able to play for 4+ hours at a time before needing to recharge and that's just on the stock battery. I removed all the bloatware I could and turned most everything off just to try and squeeze out every little bit of battery life. The only thing bugging me about the phone so far is that root would void my warranty and I'm a little upset about that but meh, it's not like I ever needed it I'm just a little worried because the phone is so new. I might just wait until the 12 months is up and root the phone then. So far I don't really have a reason to need root but I'm sure that desire will gain in traction as new tools for the device get released. I'm mostly thinking about mods like Cyagenmod, that will be one of the reasons I root and break Knox if I do before the warranty.
