Lock/power Button - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

So my lock button has been progressively getting worse. It has now completely stopped working. There are zero other problems with the phone and certainly no physical defects.
I upgraded threw a 3rd party VzW store. Wondering if I should go through them, Samsung or a corporate store? I bought it in February, it should fall under the 1 year manufacturer warranty correct?

Yes it should, if you go through VZW you'll most likely get a refurb in exchange, Samsung will most likely ask you to send it in and you'll have to wait until they fix it which could be a week or 2 and they won't send you a loaner phone.
This was a big problem with the Nexus and a few other Sammy phones and was easily fixed by taking out the screws on the back and just replacing the button yourself. If you have a repair shop in town you could probably get them to do it for relatively cheap or you could do it yourself, there are quite a few videos of people replacing the button for other Sammy phones and I would bet the process wouldn't be much different.

Return/Exchange phone within 14 days.

Hello,
Went to my local at&t store on Tuesday to do an 2-year upgrade for the Note 2.. Few days later I accidently dropped my phone and made a small dent line on the side of the screen. Would I be elligible for an exchange/return even though it's within the 14 day policy. What are my options/consequences ?
Thank you !
As long as you don't point it out, you soils be fine. Or you could do the opposite and say" I want to exchange! I got av phone with a dent on the side! I was sold a damaged product! Give me my money back, I'm going to Best Buy" lol.

Isn't there an xda policy about posting criminal activities? An attempt to commit fraud for more than $600 might be a felony.

mr joe is probably noting what he's seen happen in the past. let it slide.
Cant be like the people who report every exacerbated statement they see on facebook as a crime.
If its something to be noted then a mod will come by and fix it.

Maybe a case/protector would be the question to ask for...and since this is a Note II, Sir you are in the wrong forum.

Again this would be something to discuss with AT&T on your options/consequences as they could tell if your damage was factory defect or owner at fault. BTW, what you say and do is your doing, so be it the truth or fraud.
Again Thank You and Closed

Troublesome battery RMA adventure

So my Nexus 10 suffers from the faulty battery level indicator issue. Other than that, it's been fantastic. 9.5 out of 10. I even get the described 8 to 10 hours of battery. However, not all is well in Nexus Land. My battery indicator gets stuck, and the device shuts down as a result when the charging status changes. I have finally tired of this. I've heard and read plenty of horror stories about the RMA process. Still... Today, I call Samsung, and this post and thread will become a running log of my RMA adventures. Wish me luck.

UPDATE 1: Calling Samsung at 10:43am EST.
UPDATE 2: Got a human at 10:45am. Transferred to a specific Nexus department at 10:47am.
UPDATE 3: Still no human in the Nexus department at 10:56am.
UPDATE 4: At 11:04am, decide to chat with Samsung support online. Within one minute, I'm on live chat with tech support. Still on hold on phone service.
UPDATE 5: 11:09am, on live chat. Have hung up on phone support due to over 20 minutes of waiting.
UPDATE 6: 11:13am, I have been instructed to call their service number. My patience is waning fast. Never buy a Samsung product. My fiancee needed only about 15-20 minutes to get her Asus TF300T warranty squared away. I am informing him that I've been on hold for a long time now.
UPDATE 7: At 11:17am, I have been informed that Samsung ONLY services the Nexus 10 through their phone number. I'll have to call that number later today to get service. My log will continue then. I am most displeased. Love the tablet, but Samsung is terrible for support.
Update 8: Just spent 28 minutes on the phone with Samsung. I am to send the tablet to their repair center. Hopefully they can repair it without imparting further issues on it.
An update. I am packaging it up to deliver to Samsung. They say it will be gone for two weeks, and will be reflashed with stock images. Joy. Backing up my device now. Sending it out later today. Hopefully they will actually repair my Nexus.

Hmm.
Ive had GREAT support with Samsung via twitter. I only contact them through it and they fixed my burned in screen on my Galaxy Nexus and my busted memory on my nexus 10.
Fast turn around time too.

Check your warranty manual and when you call again, tell them you were put on hold. The gentleman that transferred me didn't put me on hold until he had another human ready for immediate pickup.
@zoomy: I don't have or use Twitter, but I was specifically told online (where I got prompt service) that the Nexus devices ONLY get phone service.
Another update: Package is ready to go, shipping label is printed, and I take it to the shipper this afternoon.

It is now the 18th, and Samsung has not updated the RMA request to let me know if they've received my unit.
Anybody else have experience with their RMA department and its timeliness?
EDIT: They received my unit as of 2 hours, 46 minutes ago. No updates past that yet.
Two days later.
It is now 2 days after they've received it. The only update in their Repair Self Tracker tool is this:

No other news at all. I found a horror story where the guy took nearly a month to get a Samsung tablet back from repair.

They have you call Samsung, since Samsung made it.
It took my N10 3 weeks to get back to me after getting a similar battery issue (charge % stuck at a constant value) repaired. I live in Australia though so it's probably to be expected. It was repaired by the retailer I brought it from.

Man, thats lame. I just RMA's my N10two weeks ago that I bought end of Nov and they did it through Google Play. (I had to pony up $500 on the credit card for them to ship the RMA unit though, which will get refunded when they process my return. They say its a "hold" and not a "charge" but there is no effective difference.)
Maybe you could hound Google and get a different rep? Or maybe you could get Samsung to concede and then have them actually replace the device.
Either way, that is not what you had in mind when you dropped $500 on a premium tablet - weeks of phonecalls and waiting! But despite all that frustration you still need this fixed...

Another rezzy down....

Well after receiving 3 clnr rezounds for signal problems my current one I believe has a bad proximity sensor. I was on the phone with Verizon today for a while and the tech offered to replace it with a incredible 4g or a razor. Now I know there is like zero development for the Inc and close to that for the razor so my question is what would ya'll do? Or would I be better off trying another rezzy? I do like this phone besides all the problems I've had.

Quit returning working phones. Quit looking at your bars. That is what I would do. The proximity sensors for our phones can be adjusted. Play store app called Rezound Proximity Sensor Calibrator.
Not trying to be rude but I see posts like these all the time where guys have returned 10 phones for various "problems". Interesting when I know of at least 10 people with Rezounds in my group of friends and family and nobody has had to return one.

it seems to be hit and miss. my first rez i bricked. the "replacement" one i received had a dead headphone jack from factory my latest one VZW had zero adhesive on the top of the screen leading to its death about a week ago. this time VZW said that the screen was my problem and that i would need to go the insurance route. i took it apon myself to repair it and order a new glass and LCD.
i wish i would have never bricked my first one. it was the only one without problems. all replacements from VZW have been crap. :/

The problem I was having with signal was lack thereof. The phone would show good signal but I couldn't make phone calls or use my data for a few minutes up to an hour or so. I have three other people with vzw smartphones in my household which would work fine.
The phone I currently have had none of those issues. I've tried the recalibration tools and it didn't work.

I never quite understood the reasoning behind that. I couldn't see the benefit of it. A friend has the iPhone 4, I believe he said the chrome piece around the whole phone was the antenna. That's a smart design, exterior antenna that looks good also. But I'm sure if any other manufacturer tried anything similar, lawsuit would arise.

Yeah that is strange being my issues were related to the signal. Verizon tech support and I always did lots if trouble shooting before sending a new one out but the never even brought up the back cover as a possible culprit. It would have been a lot cheaper to send one of them out to try versus a new phone.
Well I do have a update on my replacement phone. I called back again and explained to the tech support guy that I do not want a razor and that I really need a screen larger than the Inc. He said ok let me see what I can do and then offered me a Samsung intuition or a LG stratosphere 2 or something like that. Told him probably not cause the sammy had a 4 inch screen and the LG just looked butt ass ugly to me. He the put me on hold again and offered me a razor maxx and again I said I don't like Motorola. Then I brought up the dna and he put me on hold again and came back and said he got that approved for my replacement.
It should be here tomorrow afternoon so I guess we'll see how it performs. I really do dislike changing phones all the time.
Thanks for all your input!!

Yeah I know that they are not and all I want for a phone on a plan that I pay a lot of money for is one that I do not have trouble with every couple months. The dna does seem to be pretty solid from what I've seen.
I sure hope it does too. Which I will have to wait a little longer to see since I received another Rezound (with a new back cover I might add) in the mail yesterday Now I have to wait for the tech that helped me Wednesday night to call me back and see what happened.

Rooted phone void accessory warranty

So today I go into Verizon with my rooted note. I know some will flame for going in with it being rooted. My Motorola elite Bluetooth wouldn't pair with my phone. Customer service said since your phone it's rooted it voids warranty. I say I understand it the phone not being under warranty but the ear piece. She said yes. I reach into my pocket and pull out another one and nfc pair it. She said why do you have 2 of them. Because the charger port broke on the other one and y'all said I broke it and it wasn't covered. She said well neither are covered anyway since you rooted your phone. I smile and walk out. So I guess I'll be giving Motorola a call. But my question is, is there any place that said accessories are not covered if your phone is rooted

Garbage. I'm an attorney and trust me if there was a policy that said that, you would have heard a courtroom outcry for it.
Dealerships say the same carp about cars with work done. Unless they can prove the problem was caused by the root then no.
Dumb kiddie working for Verizon is dumb.

Your Bluetooth accessory is still covered by the warranty. Just walk back into the exact same store with the Bluetooth and have him try to pair it with his phone. If it works... well then it is your phone if not its covered and the problem has nothing to do with root....
Good luck, but defiantly try getting a same day replacement at a store rather than waiting on shipping from Motorola.
I showed her that my other one would pair. And I did suggest that she tried to pair it with on of their phones. She said how do i know that you rooting your phone didn't mess the Bluetooth up. I asked her how could it. But she had no answer. I've rooted my phone's since... I'm trying to remember my first custom Rom I think it was on the audiovox 6600. And have never heard of phone messing up accessories. Well probably go to another store tomorrow and see if she put notes on the account

We had a similar issue at our local VZW, with three different items, my BT (which didn't pair from day 1), my Smart Dock (connector died 4 days into owning) and the best one yet my Otterbox which the belt clip broke on.
I let the Dock and BT go because I didn't really want to have that debate or argument but a belt clip on my case? I went off to the point that I was asked to leave the store at which point I refused to leave until someone showed me that policy and until I spoke with the DM. After much looking at no point was anyone in that store able to find or provide anything that supported those claims and when the DM finally arrived (45 minute drive), he was beyond livid and replaced all three items on the spot.
His response to his associate "When you tried to pair it to one of our devices and it didn't work, that should have been a sign to switch it considering had he not brought his phone with him you would have had no clue it was rooted and you would have switched all three items. He just spent over $1000 less than a week ago on the phone and all the accessories he purchased and this is honestly how you treat him?"
He also gave me his number and informed me if I had any future problems of that nature to feel free to contact him or VZW Customer Service, as that is not policy and regardless of your phone's state it holds no bearing on the warranty of accessories.

That is one damned good DM, the issue is these kids get told by the store super to tell anyone with root privileges no not matter what because its a get out of jail free card. They don't realize that root doesn't void your warranty, that's just what they've heard from misinformed people on the internet.

She's not dumb, that's the line they feed people to keep from having to replace faulty equipment, it's very very smart.

I disagree as I've never had a single rep tell me that. I think it's them misinterpreting the policy OR some manager or local corporate office messing it up.

I have had everyone I have ever spoken to with VZW tell me that, its a way of them getting out of replacing things pure and simple. Most people will not fight them on it because they don't know any better.

Well, one thing's obvious to me:
You don't know how to handle your business.

Wolf assuming your talking to me. I chose not to argue with kids. That was why I ley jet slide. I could of embarrassed Her. I could have pulled a power move on her. Basically Saying something like do you know I have 17 lines, purchased 3 notes and 2 s3 in the last 3 months. All for a 99.00 ear piece. I pick battles. I put this here so others could actually give real insight in case this has happen to others

No need to tell them you're rooted. I hear you on the rest, though.

I'm just saying - you marched in there saying you're rooted and asked for a replacement. She said no.
Try again not saying you're rooted - bet she would have swapped it.

I didn't march in saying it's rooted. When she took my phone and was trying to find the settings toggle. Which she couldn't find. That's when I told her she wouldn't find it because it was rooted.

You should've just taken it from her and did it yourself. $100 is not chump change and you should go and demand a replacement. Speak to a manager if you have to.
You can do this without causing a scene and it would help other users, who don't know rooting doesn't good the warranty, by correcting her bull****.

[Q] bubbles around glaxy s4 home button glass?

on my black mist verizon s4, i have some very strange bubbles surrounding the home button under the glass. at least i think theyre bubbles. maybe condensation? not sure what to do here, i got mine on amazon about a week after it was released on verizon. i am running an aosp rom.
do you think i could go back to the verizon store if i unrooted and did triangle away and get it swapped out? i also have a aluminum home button
Yes. If it's a physical defect not of your causing they should have to replace it. If they argue with you, raise hell.

Just make sure you use Odin to flash the stock ROM back on. Odin will remove the flash counter and should not give you any problems when the Verizon tech looks at your phone.
