Call Sound - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Anybody else having issues with you sound muffled when talking to somebody? I get randomly people telling me I sound muffled and not clear but other times the sound is clear.

Many times people say they can't hear me at all. I think I may have to look at how I hold the phone. I usually have my pinky finger under the bottom of the phone. When holding the phone in my left hand, this covers the small pinhole on the bottom. For some reason I thought the Mic was in the speaker grill.

From what I see its the ambient noise pinhole next to the camera. Whenever I use my shoulders to hold the phone so I can use my hands to lets say... surf the internet and check email on my computer the person on the other line keeps saying they cannot hear me.

Mic and understanding on the phone..

I'm having a problem talking to people on my razr. They alsways complain about barely understanding me although I'm talking slow and clear, not screaming of course but normal talking.
So I took a look at the razr: the mic hole is not in the middle of the phone and I usually hold the phone with left hand to left ear and then the mic is more far away from the mouth than the other way round. Can this really be a problem? Doeas anyone else (favorable in europe or even switzerland) regonize such a problem?
I also hold my Razr in the left hand to the left ear and it`s no problem. Seems that something is wrong with your mic.

I Agree... mic problem most likely
To be safe, you might want to check and make sure that your noise canceling microphone ports (the little hole in the back bottom right and the little slit top center near the flash) aren't being obstructed, either by a case or your hand.
The distance of the mic from your mouth is not a problem. If you've ever put your ear to someone's cheek while they were talking you'd find it to be pretty loud
I have the same problem, however not always, seems to me that rebooting the phone helps, have you tried that? (I am in Sweden)

Like marsonist said, the distance between MIC and mouth doesn't matter (well, not when the phone is on your face... obviously if you talk at 100 meters of distance, well... hehm..) but anyway other than checking if the noise cancellation MIC is obstructed, check that the MIC isn't being obstructed by YOUR FACE when using it.
If it isn't being obstructed by your face and there isn't any visual problem, try a factory reset. If the problem persists, this is an hardware problem: I haven't got any problem with it and the person on the other part that is listening to my voice says that it is crystal clear and exactly perfect.
Obviously, if it turns to be an hardware problem you have the right to use your warranty.

[Q] Call issues, people can't hear me good

People have been telling me they can't really hear me good when i'm talking and i sounds a little fuzzy/far away. Anyone have this issue? where is the mic on the phone? maybe i am blocking it when holding it? Using aT&t
Reviews I've read and people I've talked to on my Note all say the call quality is great. The main mic is the little hole on the bottom edge between the pen and the usb port. There is a noise-cancelling mic on the top edge.

Try turning off noise suppression under settings>call>additional settings. You can also do this while on a call. Hit the menu button. Mine was the same. I turned it off and everyone says I sound so clear.

[Q] Volume on Phone Calls too low?

Anyone else finding the volume level of calls to be too low? Anyone using an app like Volume+ to boost the volume for in calls?
For me, it's too low - with occasional bursts of normal volume. Wondering if I'm covering up one of the mics or something causing a problem.
This is going to sound dumb, but this happened to me the first time I used my phone. The pulses of loudness is what made me figure out it was a bone head mistake (in my case atleast).
We are all used to holding a phone to our head in a certain fashion. Usually you index the corner to the top/front area of your ear. Since the phone is so wide, you have to bring that corner forward placing the center where the speaker is over your ear hole. As silly as this sounds, it's something I've never had to do before as the earliest phones always lined right up with your ear. I hope your issue is this simple, it sounds exactly what I experienced.
I too adjust where i position it by my ear. I do this often. Especially during the same phone call.

This could be it. Experimenting by calling my work voice mail now. Sure enough, if you have the phone's corner resting on your ear, then the grill is a little to the left. I'll have to play when I get some calls (not so frequent for me) and see if I need a boost at all!

Yeap, feel like a goon now don't you? We've never had to deal with something like this as there has been few devices where it would be an issue. Sometimes you catch the dumb stuff, sometimes the dumb stuff catches you.
Agree with the above, I've had mine since the pre-release and it took weeks before I figured this out!

In Call volume

Again, on US Sprint
In call volume is very low....even all the way up?
Is this a bug or something I might be missing in a setting somewhere?
I turned on the calling plus feature. It has improved some but is still somewhat weak.
I have the same problem. I can barely hear the other person in a call. I have to jam the speaker into my ear and listen very intently. If I made a lot of voice calls, I would seriously consider giving up on this phone.
Low call volume.
Hey guys there is a simple fix for the low in call volume. Use your drop down menu and you should see something that is called calling plus. Toggle it and BAM volume fixed. It works with WiFi and LTE. Hope this helps guys.
Calling plus is ok but alot of times I have it where people cannot hear me and sometimes they call and it goes straight to voicemail on there end and I answered the phone twice. Sprint sucks.
The earpiece screen on this phone is recessed, unlike most phone which are flush with the glass. As a result, dust, dirt and fuzz from your pockets can collect there. Get a can of compressed air and give a couple short blasts to the side of the earpiece screen. I was surprised at the amount of junk that blew out. It probably won't make a huge improvement, but it certainly should help.
SAME PROBLEM.
I turned OFF voice clarity under calls. Immediate improvement.
Lg V30 Call Volume
Go to settings and then calls and turn of the voice clarity setting and it will be fixed instantly... Weird lg has this option when you cant even use it because you cant hear anyone but this will instantly yake care of your problem...
If turning off clarity fixes this, you will be my hero.
Lg V30 Call Volume
Lol it will fix it. I also noticed that my calls would always try to connect with HD Voice but never would. Now that I have turned off the Voice Clarity option, not only can I actually hear now, but my calls always connect in HD. Still don't understand why they would have the option for voice clarity when you cannot hear anything unless you are in a completely quiet atmosphere. Especially when it also basically disables the HD Voice.. Seems pointless to me! Im just glad I can finally hear now and not have to say huh? Or can you please repeat that about 10 times on every damn phone call! Hope it worked for ya!
This has been my #1 issue with this phone. Calling plus it's great but it doesn't work all the time and without it I can't hear very well at all.
Now that Sprint had decommissioned calling plus I was at a loss and was prematurely shopping for a new phone until I stumbled on this post and the call clarity fix.
Thank you

Also running a needle across the top, scrapes the crud off the earpiece. It's just a piece of protective plastic, with micro holes. As a result, they get clogged super easy. Was amazed at the crap I scraped off, after 1.5yrs of use. I can actually hear people again
Thanks for this idea guys. I was having an issue on an Alcatel Tetra where the calls would go in and out to where you could barely hear the person using the device. I went to call settings and disabled the background noise feature after reading this thread and bam, calls are crystal clear now, no more cutting in and out. So thank you very much for the idea on what the issue was. Stupid all these companies use different names for the same features, lol.
It seems to me that the real issue of the feature is some sort of lag.

I just flip it to the other side. Instead of flipping to the left, I flip to the right.
Yeah, I agree, that's really bad speaker placement in terms of user experience. I keep my finger over the speaker often, since I hold my phone in my right arm.
it's a compromise.
I dig 100% more the new placement, I m not always doing desk work, and having the speaker facing up when the phone is in my pocket it's a must for me. When walking I dont fell it vibrating, but I can hear it.
