I have a question for anyone willing to answer. I'm seeing a lot of Roms coming out that require that you had updated to the AT&T Jelly Bean build to flash. I had unlocked my bootloader and rooted and installed CWM long before AT&T released Jelly Bean, but I've been running the stock Jelly Bean Rom flashable .zip for AT&T for awhile now. Since my battery life is pretty bad on it, I'd like to try some other Roms, but wanna make sure I'm doing the right thing. If someone can help clarify, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

All of the 4.2 ROMs require the newer rpm/tz partitions from the 4.1 ota, the jellybean flash able zip doesnt have these.
You will need to use lgnpst to either flash the 20j update or use the teenybin method.

Where would I go to find instructions on how to do either of these? I can't seem to find anything...

Look in the development thread for teeny bin. If you are using xda app look in stickies for guides in general

Is there a flash-able ROM/RUU for the latest Gingerbread OTA from Verizon for the Thunderbolt? I was thinking about unrooting and downloading it, but I figured there's probably a better way. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see any here but at the Roootzwiki tbolt development forums there is. There are two in fact. One rooted, one unrooted. You will have to find the link but it is definitely in the top 10-20 posts.
There is in fact a one here on xda its in general section, here is the link to unrooted http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...-fixes-several-issues-from-the-previous-leak/
I don't see any reason to unroot when you can just flash the rooted version. There would be no changes other than you can delete all Verizon and HTC bloat if you stay rooted.

HI
I have a question regarding ICS update. since I have not rooted phone yet and i am stll using stock firmware(rom). my question is if I update to the official ics release will I be able to root it and install custom roms in the future? I am asking this because I am worried that by updating it might update it self to baseband to newer version that cannot be rooted.
Can you please confirm that its safe for me to update so I will be able to modifiy in the future?(bear in mind i have not moddified anything yet(basedand bootloader rom etc and i will want to do these in near future after i read enough tutorials)
thanks

It's safe to upgrade to ICS 4.0.3, because I have done it when I got my EVO 3D, then unlocked & root successfully! So don't worry, but anyway, 2.3.x is more easy to unlock, root & s-off, because my 4.0.3 phone can't be S-OFF.

safe? yes, but not recommended IF you want to flash custom roms in the future.
Much better to unlock bootloader, root the phone go s-off and flash custom roms. The upgrade will change your HBoot which limits your options.

To add to what zcink said, if you have patience, the VM leak custom Roms will all incorporate or realign to the Sprint ota once it's released. The ics we run now through custom Roms is most likely better now than what Sprint will push out and definitely will be better once the customs realign. We just need HTC to release source for better kernels.

Might as well wait for JB now... CM10 looks promising.

JB isn't even in Alpha stages for GSM users.
OP, if you want to upgrade to ICS, use a custom ROM as said before.
Once your HBoot gets upgraded, you'll have a lot of trouble in an attempt to root again.
Plus, custom ROMs are better!
Is there a RUU download link for the jellybean update? I cannot seem to find one and i wish to relock my phone. I've flashed the stock jellybean rom found Here but i wish to remove root(which i believe is already removed) TWRP recovery and Relock bootloader. Any help?
It's not available yet. I'm waiting for it as well.

oh my lord thank you, I was stuck with a kernel issue and had wiped my internal memory so could not go back to backup. Had been here with my semi bricked phone for a few hours. Greatly appreciate the link :victory:
Excuse my newness but this is a bit confusing. Since I have flashed my phone back to stock from being rooted/unlocked using LGNPST, not using my original bootloader backup from freegee or anything like that...just straight from the tutorial in irc, the rom and all....will i be able to get an at&t jellybean update ota when they finally decide to release it? It seems there was an OTA update to E97011c and I am at E97010o right now and it says no update available. Does that mean I can't get ota updates now? I can't seem to find a direct answer to this.

you should be able to flash the new ROM through lgpnst and mabey the ota. I think there was a problem with the latest ota for people rooted and unrooted.... And there should be custom ROMs based off of the new release that you could flash through recovery if I'm not mistaken

Right, but does unlocking/rooting/installing canadian JB, then unrooting and relocking bar me in any way from receiving future offical ota updates from at&t? I've probably been phrasing the question wrong
You will be able to ota. The process the use to tell if you are eligible is just odd, so sometimes it can take a few days / weeks to get it.

This answered my question. Thanks for the reply.
Say I'm running MDK 4.2.2, I have a custom recovery installed, and then 4.3 comes out. Could I just wait for a dev to release their own flashable version of TouchWiz 4.3 with the unlocked bootloader and MDK baseband? Or would it not be the same as updating to 4.3 OTA (so, would the update not be as "good")? Sorry if this is a really noob question. Thanks!

Never take an update from Samsung/Verizon. At least as long as we have developer support just wait for a flashable ROM to be released.
BTW - the baseband is not relevant on this issue. You can flash a new radio if you choose. I've seen no reason to but many have.
