He is stuck at the samsung screen
He can get into download mode and a mode where these arew the options:
reboot system
apply update from ADB
apply updat from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition(heb ik al geprobeerd)
apply update from cache
He does not have his contacts synced with google. Is there a way to recover them?

He can try and access the com.android.providers.contacts folder somewhere in /data/user or data/data folder by using recovery based aroma file manager(you might need to flash a cwm recovery), com.android.providers.contacts folder contains the database for your contacts, most probably backing this up and after reseting you can replace this to get your contact's back, if you want you can try to read the contacts.db using a database application like Sqlite.

Since yesterday my phone keeps on rebooting, i dont remember exactly but there was some update and now my phone just keeps on rebooting.
It would start with the Samsung Logo, go on to load android, and finally land at the pattern lock.
Then after 5 to 10 seconds it would just reboot without any message or error.
I tried to uninstall a few softwares like 'skype' , 'swype keyboard' , etc but no use.
What I have noticed is the phone gets very hot , it wasn't that hot before.
I tried changing the battery with another phone, switching off wifi, switching off packet data, uninstall anything I can find which is not needed, but still no use.
I have installed cyanogenmod in it and the phone is also rooted (I did both of these before a year)
Any one else having this issue ?
Recovery Mode and download mode both work fine. (The phone doesn't get restarted in these modes)
If nothing would work I have to factory reset the phone from the recovery mode. (Which also I dont know how to do)
I have some very important images in my gallery (in sdcard most probably) which I desperately need. (i am unsure if factory reset from recovery mode would retain the photos or they would be deleted)
Any guidance please.
Thanks.
You can pull those images from your sdcard with adb when you're in recovery mode.

I did the adb part and connected my phone but I cant find my sdcard, it seems as it is not mounted.
/mnt/ doesnt exist
/sdcard and /sdcard1 are empty
I tried a lot to navigate and find the sdcard but still I cant find it,
Can someone please guide me how to find and mount the sdcard to copy the images.
Then I can factory reset the phone from recovery mode.
Thanks
I don't know. What are all the folders? Use ls command in adb shell.

If I select factory reset from the recovery mode, will it clear my sdcard contents as well.
I did factory reset once from within android and it retained my sdcard as it is so will be it be the same in recovery mode also ?
Any one have any experience in this please share.
I have installed cyanogenmod recovery.
Thanks

It will leave the internal and external sdcard alone.

Hi there,
My friend has a I9100 international model which is never been modified. This week it starts to loop in S2 logo and never go forward. As i saw from his gmail account that his contacts are never been synced and stored locally. He also has some recordings in internal storage. I can access to recovery mode but not tried wipe options aince it is possible to lost all data forever. Since usb debugging is not selected i can not access to phone with adb.
I made many googling but could not find a proper answer.
Is it possible to retreive contacts and recordings?
Does wipe will remove all user data including contacts and recordings?
Will wiping make the phone to boot normally.
Thanks.

If you wipe user data then yes, but there are the following wiping/clearing options available:
wipe data/factory reset - this deletes all user data
wipe cache partition - generally - what you have isnstalled from Google Play
wipe dalvik cache - which is a virtual machine cache
You can try fixing permissions - if something went wrong with that.

Yes. Here's how:
1. Root it and flash CWM recovery
2. Enter CWM recovery and make a nandroid backup.
3. Mount as USB Storage in CWM.
4. Connect to a PC.
5. Copy nandroid backup and the recordings in the internal memory.
6. Extract contacts from nandroid backup (should be /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db)
7. Do a full wipe or flash a stock rom to exit the bootloop.
8. Root phone again if needed.
9. Using a root explorer, replace contacts2.db and set permissions.
10. Reboot.

Yes, it will remove your contacts. But it will not delete your recordings, or any other media files.

It should boot normally after a full wipe. if it doesn't, you would have to flash a stock ROM. :good:
I bought a clone samsung s4 19500 from bangkok last month.I downloaded an uninstaller (uninstall manager) from play store.Maybe by mistake i uninstalled some system file((Android OS,some mediatek file etc) to decrease internet data usage and my phone showed error messages.I quickly reinstalled somee uninstalled system apps using the backup files made by the backup data stored by the uninstaller program.but the error messages stated to increase.i removed my battery and when i opened the s 4 again it only kept on showing the opening message of "SAMSUNG" with some sound).what to do.plz help:
I also did the system restore/factory reset option by using power+vol up key but it did't help.i cleared user data also. What to do now?
THERE ARE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS

READ READ READ and learn about your device before you do something. Usually those types of devices have no support period. Good luck.

Hi all
I have an emergency matter,
I just updated my cynogenmod to the newest edition through the "in system" updater, then i reboot the phone, my phone stuck at the booting screen!!!! i didn't back up my files since its in the system update, i thought its relatively safe. I can just wipe everything and flash the mod, but I need all the files on the phone.
so is there any way i can explore the files on the phone like an SD directory so i can retrieve my files?
thank you
If they're Images/Video/Songs Then you can do a Restore to factory defaults and Wipe Cache from the recovery and boot it up. Though that'll get your applications removed. Try to do a wipe cache only ..

Have you looked into Aroma file manager? Works through recovery.
My galaxy S2 (gt-i9100) was running cm13 for about half a year. Some days ago I let google play update my apps. The result is a bootloop.
I've used the voice recorder to record a lot of notes I need to remember. Is there any way to get those files out from the phones internal storage?
The CWM recovery installed lacks the option to wipe cache / dalvik, which I would hope could get the device out of the bootloop.
When booted into recovery, I've tried adb, but the device is unauthorized.
I think usb debuging was disabled, however, I'm not sure about that.
The ideas I have to solve this are:
1) flash some other recovery that will give an option to wipe cache/dalvik and be able to boot cm13
2) flash some other recovery that will make adb able to pull the files while in recovery mode
3) flash some recovery that is able to copy files from internal storage to sd card
4) factory reset, and hope the files don't get deleted (this is the very last resort)
The thing is that it seems like I'll need to do all installations from SD card via the current CWM recovery. Does anyone know of a suitabel download / howto that can help me get my files off the phone?
If reason for boot loop is Xplore file explorer latest update , uninstall it with developer advices:
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/wiki/xplore/crash_on_cm
I did factory reset twice because of app.
Thank you, Kepsilla. Unless that is an app that is installed with cm13 or gapps, I don't have it installed. But your link gave me hope:
If you have custom recovery on your device (such as TWRP), enter recovery mode, open file manager and delete folder /data/app/com.lonelycatgames.Xplore-1

That means that if I can install TWRP recovery from CWM recovery, I should be able to access the filesystem. That should open up to two possible solutions:
a) Copy my files from internal storage to SD
b) Delete / modify some files to take all apps I've installed from play store will not start automatically.
Does anyone know of a TWRP that would give any of these possibilities and install on a i9100 using CWM?
(I can't really experiment iwht this - I feel the risk of loosing the files is too high. I have to know I'm going the right direction when I do something.)
Solution was very simple: By holding volume down pressed during boot, the device boots into safe mode - no apps started. Then I could just uninstall the apps that were set to autostart. Reboot and problem was solved.
I came across this way to enter safe mode when googling a error message that started to pop up frequently on my S5 mini. S2 with cm13 appears to have the same way to enter safe mode as S5 mini with factory rom.
