Well i still ask myself to unlock bl or not to... and the reasons for that is:
1. Loosing Bravia Engine 2
2. Loosing those DRM Keys
Well I am not that familiar with that stuff but I keep asking myself:
1. Isn't it possible to get BE2 back using Pimp my Rom or some zip file contending it?
2. I use MXPlayer for VideoPlayback so do I really need those DRM Keys?
Any suggestion or clear answer would be nice!

I don't know if its possible to get back BE2, but you should be fine with video playback without the DRM keys.

BE2 is totally superfluous, makes colors only worse and oversaturated.
So, f*** BE2 and go ahead.

I've been following these forums since i got my Tablet Z and I've seen a lot of users mentioning that you lose BE2 after unlocking the boot loader and i was curious to find out if it really make that much of a difference? Because i was to impatient when i got my tablet to get root that i unlocked my boot loader.
I have the boot loader unlocked and still get BE2 ?? !!

It makes a visible difference by increasing saturation of colors, contrast, etc.
But in practice it is screwing with the picture displayed rather than actually hardware technology or software that is always dynamically adjusting your screen.
I have two sample screenshots, with one of the preloaded photographs for you to see the actual effect of MBE2:
Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 DISABLED

With Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 ENABLED
As you can see it's a software layer that can actually be captured with screenshots. It delivers a noticeable effect that makes images more 'poppy' with increased contrast by darkening darker areas and lightening brighter ones, while boosting saturation across the board. This delivers a more "vivid" picture, but it is increasingly unrealistic or inaccurate. The increased saturation and contrast can also wash out details (notice the loss of texture in the magenta red boat, as it becomes a flat mass of red).
MBE2 makes for a nice showcase on the showfloor because people are generally attracted by vivid color and contrast, but people who want screen accuracy (i.e. me) will want it turned off. Despite that though, I prefer to keep the feature available, because I'm not a fan of losing features in the first place.
Thank you for posting those screenshots, i did notice the colors stood out more with BE2 enabled (in the second screenshot) but when you mentioned the loss of texture in the red boat i couldn't believe the difference.
Where to get the latest BE 2 for CM 10.1 pollux?
I have just installed the stable CM10.1 pollux and I did not know about the BE2 until now.
I would like to know where I can get the latest BE 2?
I saw different threads with phones and the BE 2 but not for xperia z tablet itself.
Is the BE 2 use on the Z phone () the same as the Z tablet?
Cheers
Forget BE.
Pictures and videos definitely look better and more natural without it.
BE is only something for the same people who also think "much bass" = "good sound".

There's a tool to backup TA partition before unlocking which can be restored later and it bring DRM back, BE etc. You'll find it in Xperia Z developement section. All questions are asked there.
After unlocking Bravia still works but only for pictures if I remember correctly, you loose it only for videos.
If you have to send back your tablet to customer service just restore TA and nobody will notice it had been unlocked.
Beware Hard brick if misused!

The "death grip" is not an issue.
Had my phone since friday and no matter how much i try i cant replicate it.
At most it drops one bar and if thats a "death grip" every phone ive ever had suffers from the "death grip"

But if you use full brightness you dont get the benifit of Whitemagic so personaly i dont see the point of using full brightness on Xperia P

Not so at all. Beauty is subjective while power is absolute.
Many will argue that the X10 is a better looking device than the galaxy s2 but only a fool will argue that it's faster.
To say you don't need the power is another thing entirely and not remotely related to the point in question.

Yes, whitemagic works great, the screen is brighter at lower power, so you don't need to crank it up to "Men In Black Memory Wipe" levels to get a great image.

And the important of specs to one is subjective, while the importance of the beauty to someone can be opbjective.
We can talk in circles here for hours, but the point is, i don't like being told ''what to do''.
This is a international forum, if one simply forgets to add ''in my opinion'', don't get so ''gradual'' about it, that's all i'm sayin.
It's true about beauty=subjective / specs=absolute, but different people, different things what they find important. No one is debatting about the differences between specs between PHONE A or PHONE B.
ONTOPIC,

I had a touchscreen sensitivity problem that I've now resolved, I use an aftermarket screen protector on top of the anti shatter film that comes pre installed on our phones, and my keyboard was all over the place when swiping, it seemed the screen was too sensitive even with the additional protector on, I'm using build .527
I found the following file, max1187x_touchscreen_0.idc in the /system/usr/idc directory, and just altered the touch.filter.level = 2 line using Root Explorer.
Tried all values upto 7, which for me is when the sensitivity became too low and I had to press hard to get the keyboard to cooperate, I found for me the optimum setting is 5, so the line now read's touch.filter.level = 5 as per the attached screenshot.
You may have to experiment to get your optimum setting but for me every word I swipe is correct and I always hit the smallest of checkboxes first time now with 5.

Yeah us Ultra users over the fence have the same issue. I believe its purely software.
Reason being is that its not quite as bad, and by default these settings are difference. So have a play, and maybe even go as high as 6 and that should make the issues go away, however you may need to touch the screen, not just gently breeze over it.

My issue is that it loses touch for a period of time and you have to lift your finger in order for the screen to work again, this happens more on flat surfaces especially in bed. It's annoying since it affects the gaming experience. I hope this can ease the problem, so what i need in this case is increased or decreased sensitivity?

Its simple. If you want root... and can't do it, then don't upgrade the firmware.
There is a mind set that people have... (me included somewhat)...
... its that we want 'updates' and think that it going to make our device so much better or faster than before. Reality is that despite a couple of fix's that we have had recently, the updates are not essential. or have not improved our experience dramatically. There is no need to update... its not going to give you much.
for me root is essential. I wont be updating to 290 unless I can get my ROM rooted and full working.
I know I'm ranting.... but when in Rome... :victory:

But seriously is that going to be the trend for getting root from now on that we have to wait for long times. I hope not. As root is very important for me as I use gl2sd app to move my big games to external sd.
why Is rooting a certain device more difficult than others, is because we don't have too many developers that bought our device. I just would like to know.
why for example samsung devices almost instantly get root?

You want unlocked phone right? Unlock bootloader then, as simple as it gets.
Samsung is different because:
1. A lot of consumer which are hackers too, there
2. Samsung device is battery removable, indicating that it is much easier to access the device hardware wise. It was easy to semi-'unlock' my Xperia Ray due to removable battery.
3. AFAIK with all this, it seems that Samsung's devices is not as secure as Sony's devices. Have heard about rootkit virus in Desktop? Yeah the same problem came into mind with a rootable device which is insecure to hacker attack to alter the system partition.
So the only way out if you MUST have ROOT is to unlock the bootloader (i.e. it is purely your device, no Sony warranty will cover it). Unless some extreme hacker more extreme than our friend DoomLord could find the hole while keeping bootloader locked, we can wave goodbye to root in the mean time. Even if the mentioned miracle happens, Sony will quickly patch the hole for you

Lord Manhattan is not the one you should worry about but rather moderators...
Root is achieved through exploits as they do represent a security breach in the OS. In other words, root is a double edged sword as giving permissions to the wrong app for the wrong thing could lead to bad consequences. Because companies don't exactly feel like being liable for leaving a "vulnerable device" in the shelves, they normally tend to tighten things like this up.
Devs on xda (and the entire Android community for that matter) work very hard to bring you the exploits. Getting impatient and ranting about your discontent will only make you look like self entitled and will do nothing but to give an open entry for people who love the community to flame you to smithereens...
With that being said, I am closing your thread. Please don't post like this anymore.... it is entirely useless and you will do nothing other than piss people off.
So, a lot of people are posting that unlocking will cause tons of issues, among which are X-Reality not working, X-Reality not working only in Album, DRM Keys being lost (only true one that I know of), and (most serious one I've heard of) the Camera no longer working.
What's the deal? I unlocked my bootloader, and things seem to be fine. Anyone who has unlocked their bootloaders, are things fine for you?

From developer.sonymobile.com:
Please note that you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator if you unlock the boot loader. See your device's warranty statement for details. Additionally, due to the modified device software, Sony’s repair network will likely have to replace key components before it can properly test, repair and verify your device using our repair tools and software. Consequently, if Sony performs a warranty repair, Sony will likely charge you a significant service fee for the additional costs caused by your modification of the software.

So basically it depends on the repair center. And if you relock the bootloader (without) restoring the TA partition this also may look like you never unlocked the device... Unless someone is going to check for the DRM keys. That's why I wrote "may or may not".
It's highly unlikely someone will release an root exploit for 4.4.2, so if you want root just unlock the bootloader. I did - no regrets.

Sony's image processor for the Z2; I'm guessing in smartphones, it may just be software built into Sony's camera app.
I will have my Z2 tomorrow so I will check, but on Z1 on 4.4.2 unlocking bootloader didn't wipe DRM keys. A lot of people still sustain legends that unlocking bootloader will always wipe DRM keys forever...

Hi everyone,
I would like to have your opinions on unlocking my bootloader. Should I unlock officially from Sony or use flashtool?
I did it like a month ago. It delets everything in your storage. And I'm not happy with camera quallity after unlocking the bootloader. It is so noisy!
So if you really want to give custom roms a try, I don't recommend it. Specially since official roms are ok in my opinion.
U can try envi rom
. It's pretty much stock Sony but it's been tweaked for performance and other slight aesthetics. It's not been upgraded for lollipop yet though.
There's always Xposed though
You can only unlock via sony as you need the unlock code

Camera quality is only affected in older firmwares and is fine on custom roms imo.
Theres two Z2s in my house; one unlocked bootloader, one without. The camera quality is atrocious on the unlocked bootloader Z2 in comparison.

Wow. Really, There's such a huge difference?
