k, thats not the real question, but its the third time I am asking this question:
[Q] How can I solve the 'unable to start wifi' problem without having to reset to factory defaults?
-Wifi just wont start
-All stock phone, no mods
-New no drops
-Turning off and on again does nothing
Can someone please answer my question before this thread gets shut down with little to no explanation?
Repair with seus or pc companion or flash with flash tool. Links to all 3 from in the guide in my signature

Flashing with seus or pc companion yes definitely you would still have warrenty. With flashtool, no, you need root to flash which voids your warranty. I would try seus first and if that hasn't fixed it return the phone to where you purchased it. This might fix your wierd google problem too which iv never heard of before.
Edit
Flashing with sues will wipe all data, games, sms so you want an app called my back up which saves your apps, games, sms etc but not game save points. Root is required to do that...

But flashing with SEUS also wipe user data, like factory reset, just for info.

It is so much faster to solve problems when people are actually willing to fix them.
It's like saying, how can I fix my cars brakes without removing anything and using no tools.
A better question would be how do I backup the following so that I can run SEUS and reinstall 2.1....then start listing the apps you want to backup. For some apps, all you need to do is copy the data.
Most apps store their stuff on the SDCard, and that doesn't get touched when you use SEUS and reflash. But better be safe and mount the phone on your computer and copy all stuff off the phone.
Backup your contacts (sync using your gmail account) or you can go that extra step (which is a pain and really isn't needed unless you need to backup txt messages) and you would need to root and install something like Titanium Plus and backup with it.
The solution to your problem (if you have already tried reseting your router and changing the password or encryption on the router.,...even when it works on some other device) is to wipe it clean.
Thanks for info.
So this seems to be a deeper issue I presume. I will try to rest my router and change the encryption - its just weird how i works one moment then just stops.
Btw, do X10 phones have a hard reset? So the iphone has one where you hold the top button it will reset your phone like you restart a computer, can this be done with the X10?
Yup. Go under Settings->Privacy
But a factory reset isn't as good as a complete reflash using SEUS from Sony.
I have fixed 3 phones by logging into a router admin page, and changing the encryption from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK or changing from WEP 64 bit to 32 bit.

Is there a restart method that wont erase your data? But one that isnt "power off" then "power on"?
I had an iphone before and the hard boot method virtually solves every problem
I've checked out the sony ericson official problems, and a lot of people are having this problem
Looks like a hardware issue.... I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that its not, and that Gingerbread will answer my prayers
Right well, SEUS and PC companion didn't do it, BUT I turned the phone off, then removed the battery, sim, and SD card. Waited about a minute, then put it back together.
And for some reason it all works now.... thank god.
Otherwise, Thanks for the help everyone!
Hi there,
i need some help,
i've got my dads sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro phone, sadly he passed away 13weeks ago
i tried to work out what his pattern lock was but did it wrong far too many times, now its asking me for his googlemail login details, well as u can see i cant ask him... i can not access any part of the phone to do a restore as i need the details to login..
so can any body help me on doing a hard restore as ive tried holding the left and right buttons whilst pressing the power button but no luck...
i need to get in to the phone so i can use it as mine is now broken,
can
anybody shed some light on what to do that s not going to cost me any money,
thanks
Tubby,
Moved it to the right forum for you buddy.
Why you can't ask him? At least ask him to put the password and then you deactivate the security lock.

Oh, really sorry. Really, really sorry, I didn't get at first. Sometimes my english is awful. Do you know if he had recovery installed? Try to reboot in recovery and do a backup in case you want to keep any app or it's configs.. Then enter factory reset, reboot phone. Everything right, install App Extractor and recover the apps you want from the recovery.
In case he hadn't any recovery, I think the only option is reinstall Android, using SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).
Again, sorry for the thing I said in my earlier post.

i cant get into any thing on the phone as it says pattern entered wrong too many times please enter googlemail and password, well i can not get past that, all i can do it call 999 ...
ive connected the phone via usb to my notepad but when i click on the usb via my computer it says to insert a disk to disk drive??
i honestly have no idea what to do, ive tried to download the sony ericsson pc suite but where i use a internet dongle it dont download...
i dont want to pay for the phone to b reset when i know i can do it myself some how and places round here have said they'd charge £50-£60 just to do it!!!!
and honestly it fine, no need to apologize so much, was a simple miss read,
Got a friend at work, and his kid managed to enter a usercode onto his SGS2. It´s his businesses phone with LOADS of meetings/notes/sms´s/photes (all on the phone, nothing saved to SD :/ )etc etc and he want to get his info back if possible.
USB debugging is NOT turned on.
vol+,home, power gets puts you on a enter password screen.
vol-,home,power puts you in download mode.
Is there anything that can be flashed via ODIN to get rid of the usercode WITHOUT loosing any info?
Just them him to take it into a Samsung service center proof of ownership may well be needed.
As i work in a phone/tv store we send in ~5-10/phones each day to service centers.
Not one time have the phone been "unlocked/reset" without it coming back factory reset
I´ll tell him to leave it be until monday, and if there´s no other way then flashing, well, suck for him....

Read in another thread to try a bunch of wrong passwords until it asks for a PUK then use that to unlock it (Call carrier for PUK)
Tell your "friend" to ask his "kid" for the code.
Does he have a backup of his EFS? If so you can flash via Odin any xxxEFSxxx.tar file and it will allow access to the phone, you can then backup whats needed and then restore the original EFS.

The kid is 3 years old, and his name is Emil. Just think for a second, if the phone where stolen or ill gotten, why go through this trouble?! The meetings, calander etc can be restored (with pain) but the photos etc cant be replaced! And as i do this, send phones to service, on a daylie basis i want to explorer any other options first as it will likely be wiped when it is returned!

Nothing saved on his part. Got NSPRO, z3x and SGTool and tried everything that i could think of with these tools, but as usb debbuging is off no codes could be read...
Thanks for the input, i´ll guess it will be a hail mary pass to send it in to Anovo, as the biggest servicecenter is called in Sweden.
What is a "usercode" to begin with if it's not the Pattern/PIN/Password lock?
Overcomming the Pattern/PIN/Password lock is rather easy, as Odia suggested, but you even can do it with custom kernel via root ADB in recovery, don't even need to flash a stock EFS, just delete all cryptoprop* files.

THAT sounds like the device encryption is enabled.
If that is really the case, there is nothing you can do without the password, as if you do the above, the password will be gone, but so is all the data as it can't be decrypted anymore.
0000 is always worth a try .
jje
Thanks for the info.
The phone was setup by a former IT guy at the company he works at. That would explain why it is encrypted, as my friend is not very tech savvy.
Unfortunately the guy now works abroad and they have not been able to reach him, and i guess that servicecenters wont reset it with content remaining to avoid potential problems with info coming into the wrong hands.
Thanks all for the replies!
It's impossible to reset it without loosing/wiping the data when not knowing the password - that's the idea when encrypting it
Has nothing to do with service centers "not wanting", it's just technically not possible.
My phone shows modified status after getting a replacement....
I did make quite a fuss over it at the center and they told me that the set given to me as a replacement was not a refurbished and was new....
Also I opened the seal of the set myself and it was packed just like new.....
Nowhere on the set was it stamped refurbished or repaired etc.......
Now the key point is when I got my phone without checking device status in settings I proceeded to samsung care person to do the update that samsung has released in india to solve the battery issue....
Now the update was done by samsung care personnel only.........
AND he flashed the phone using Odin........
Now I did not see the status before he flashed and after flashing I saw the status as modified..... My question is what are the chances that set given to me is a refurbished or old...
I live in india and have international s3 version....
What are the chances that my phones flash counter would have increased by the update the samsung person did via Odin so it showing modified status.....
How can I find out myself without rooting if my phone is refurbished or not......
AND samsung has sworn by its side that the set they sent me was not a refurbished one it came straight from the factory.....
I did open the seal myself....
One more thing I checked in the samsung's database with my product code and imei etc and they showed me that of my imei and product code they had no prior registrations to PROOVE it to me rat Mt set was not a refurbished should I believe it........
One more thing I tried to ask for a replacement yet again as I have already got it once
And they refused saying that my handset is not a refurbished one and they would not replace it....
They are giving me warranty please tell me what are the chances samsung is tricking me.... PLease respond as i need to further my mail to rhem u need further details please ask I will tell u....
But please help me in the matter
......
Can flashing official firmware with Odin lead to a modified status by official firmware done by samsung service centre people only.....
My device is not rooted as of now because when I install titanium backup pro it tells me so.....
But it is showing modified status....
Also what are the chances that samsung sent me a refurbished phone and how to make sure m it is a new piece......
Also is there any way to check the flash counter or reconditioning status of my device without rooting....

Strange if you look at the observations here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788132
To go to download mode you need to use key combo I mentioned above. There is no downside of going into download mode. You will see the binary count etc there. To get out just long press the power button
Yes sir I did go to the download mode a greenish warning type appeared telling me custom firmware cab harm the set if u still want to install press volume up key otherwise to boot normally press volume down key.....
I pressed the volume up key and it showed me binary counter no
Firmware status etc official
.....
What does it mean...
AND besides it was also written that downloading do not turn off the target and I tried pressing the power key long but it did not go away from the the download mode so I took out my battery and re inserted it as I got afraid..... Sir have I done something wrong or have I harmed my set by re inserting the battery also please inform me to get this downloading screen after the volume up button normal and how to exit the download mode.... Also what does binary counter Mo and official firmware mean does this mean my phone has never been rooted modded etc...... Please explain me these think....
Besides I know it is odd even samsung is not able to believe e but they have promised me warranty anyway..... Please explain sir sorry for my noob questions.......

Sorry sir I did not understand please explain in simple words.... Not showing counter as rom is custom what does this men does this mean that my device has been rooted before... Or does this mean that a custom rom has been put before..... It exactly says...
Product name gt19300
Custom binary downloads no....
Device status custom
Present binary samsung official
Please sir please explain it to me because if something is wrong I can still get a replacement once again if I argue enough....

If I were you, the unit looks new and you are given warranty, then just flash official firmware and get the status back to normal.
But then again if I were you, I would root it straight away. Which I did, on the first hour I get it.
Keep the official Rom handy just in case.

Sorry for being so stupid but maybe something is obvious to u both which I just don't get so please can u tell me what does this information mean......
Does it mean my device is new and has never been flashed before or does it mean that my device is old has been rooted before and then an official rom has been flashed to make me believe that the device is new.....
AND please explain in noob terms I don't know anything about android please explain as executives are calling me already to know what I would prefer to get and if I make a fuss I will get a replacement the question is is it even worth the fuss or not please help sirs.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
If your device said modified or its custom rom counter was above 0 . Then a custom rom or kernel or some form of non Samsung firmware has been flashed on the device .
Yes your device is not new as it has been used before .
You have been sold a used phone .
jje
Can't tell.
Even my phone that I have used for 1 month.
I am using custom rom.
But I can flash official rom and reset my binary counter.
And if I give it to Samsung service centre, they can't tell if it is new or not (assuming my condition is 100% like new).
If I can do that, so can Samsung to you.
If you want, make a fuss and get exchange.
If not, keep it, but keep warranty card handy.

Dude sorry but from the way you talk I have a feeling that you were just mistaken or something. Just don't worry about such things.
I got my brand new s3 from office depot original unopened box etc.
Device status modified!
I am in Israel ,the device came from Romania.
It s have something to do with that!
Sry for my english!
Just wanted to let you guys know the stickers they stick on the boxes to seal them are not tamper-proof stickers. you can easily peel them off and stick them back on again.
I have been to a shop here in Hong Kong and they opened the S3 right in front of me, the used a knife cut the sticker on one end, BUT there where cut marks on the box behind the sticker on the other end (which the guy did not cut). This obviously shows its been opened end re-sealed. I another box when they opened the box of a new one I saw that there was another sticker inside which can be used to re-seal the box. this can seen in some unboxing videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYebiTyLll0&feature=player_detailpage#t=71s
This may vary with each market, but the basically its not hard for someone to re-seal a box and claim that its new.
Status MODIFIED after a normal OTA
I believe i know the answer. I also had a NEW phone which worked fine for a couple of months. the "STATUS" was always normal. But after a recent and normal OTA process, the STATUS became MODIFIED and i could no longer initiate OTA. Luckily i have 2 samsung S3's and one samsung NOTE II for testing.
I was using a 64gb SANDISK ULTRA micro SD card (i had about 5 gig of data on that card). if i removed that 64gb card and then restarted the phone, the status was NORMAL and all was well. Reinserted the card and the MODIFIED problem came back. so i FORMATTED the 64mb card. then i restarted and the status was NORMAL. Then i added data to the card and restarted the phone. WHOOPS, again the status changed to MODIFIED.
NEXT TEST. i switched to a 32gb card from samsung. (its the only 32gb card i had). I formatted the 32gb card. STATUS was NORMAL. i then added data to the card and restarted the phone. The status was NORMAL.
Long story short, it appears that the primary issue is the micro SD card. In my opinion it is specific to the 64gb cards. I know that there were issues with 4.0 android operating sytems and 64gb cards and 4.1 solved that issue. but perhaps there is some leftover issues that have not been resolved.
Bottom line, change your SD card to 32mb and status should be normal. In the very worst case (in the event my solution does not work for you) you an remove the back cover of the phone and then remove the SD card. then restart the phone without the SD card. the status will return to NORMAL. then slip the SD card back in without restarting the phone. Your SD card will mount and function normally AND your status will still be NORMAL allowing you to do a normal OTA if you wish to do so.

The reason your phone is still showing "MODIFIED" is because your BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED. I'm surprised that no one who responded thought of this. The answer was right in front of everyone this whole time.
You must re-lock your bootloader, reset your flash counter and de-root using a stock ROM image.
Egads... Where were the brains when this was so obvious?
My tablet will not write anything to memory, its as if its only saving to RAM, until it is full then has to be rebooted. It boots up and operates fine, I can install/uninstall apps, but after a while services will start to crash and I have to reboot. After reboot the tablet is like it was after the last reboot. All of my changes are gone. I have tried to do a soft reset, to wipe all data from with in the OS, and from the Recovery menu. However it still comes up the same state from a few days ago. It is acting like it is a dumb terminal. Do you have any suggestions?

I will try to get the alogcat to post it here and I´ll let you now the release that I have installed.
If someone has any new idea to solve this please help us, pleae share it
restart sony
It happend to me last days, after a restart all the settings on screens were gone. Now I have installed a new Launcher - Go Hd for tablets, locked the screen, backedup the settings and restarted. For the moment the setings are all there. But what causes the problem by sony launcher? Is the firmware? I am on 5a without root.
Hi!
I tried MarioNico´s workaround and I still have the same issue.
Another solution that I tried was install the original OTA trought the stock recovery, and all commands were execute correctly (writing in system1, etc etc etc), but when it finish and restart to run for the first time the upgrade, guess what... I have the older system :crying:
I don´t know what can I do... Please help!!
(my model is SGPT121 and I´m in R4)
Did you tried a factory reset? Why are you on R4 and not on R5? over R4 you have the possibility to root your tab and install a custom rom.
Hi MarioNico,
Yes I did, I already tried a factory reset (trought system options and stack recovery) but after the restart I have the same system than before.
I am still in R4 becouse I can´t upgrade, I tried trought system update and trought the stock recovery with the original OTA, and every step works ok, but when I restart I have the same system again.
About the root, as you know, requires restart, so every time that It restarts I lose the made steps and I have the same system than before.
:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: I don´t know what else can I do
Thanks in advance for any idea to solve this!!!

It seems like the issue is not caused by the system and the kernel.
Unfortunately it could be the bootloader or other hardware with other firmware built in to it.

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a while. I had a friend, who is a unix engineer, look at the tablet and he said he can see where the file system is corrupt and not able to write anything to which ever folder it writes changes to. He said he could fix it if I had root, but I have R5 and have never had it rooted.
Is it possible to completely wipe the harddrive of everything? Or maybe replace the harddrive?

Sony's tablets do not have hard drives, they have solid-state memory storage. As for completely wiping the memory, I have never attempted doing that. Most likely all you will end up with is an expensive brick. Perhaps you should just send your tablet to Sony for repair.

Sorry I still call solid state hard drives, hard drives. The tablet isn't under warranty any more and I don't want to have to pay Sony to fix it when, I could try and fix it cheaper.

If it is rooted you can reflash the pre-rooted rom.

Technically it isnt even a solid state drive, its just a flash memory (2 little chips on the board)

If it was SSD then the R/W would be instantaneously fast but it is flash memory for a reason.
