Uhhh yeah, all Android phones come with a stock recovery. You can't do anything with it though aside from flash stock updates and wipe your data/cache.

What version software did it have loaded on it?
How much did asurion charge to replace your phone? Was it damaged or lost/stolen?
I'm debating whether I should buy a replacement lcd for mine since I've already s-off/rooted, customized, etc the phone...
or just go through asurion and do it all over again.

You have to know how to enter it!
Shut down the device.
Hold down Volume Down and hold down Power until you boot into the HBOOT menu.
Select the RECOVERY option using the Volume buttons.
Your phone will show the white HTC screen, then you'll see a black screen. It will take a while but it will say failed to mount sd four times. Wait until it turns into a red triangle with an exclamation point inside the triangle and from there, hold down the Volume Up and then press the Power button. You will see a small list, this is stock recovery

I paid today and it was $99. Mine was damaged.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Same deal. I had to replace mine back in January. $99 and got a brand new model as a replacement. I'm not sure how much it costs to replace the LCD, but if it's anywhere close to $100, I'd just replace the whole unit. you'll get a new product that is scratch and blemish free, the USB cover will last a few months, and you can root / unlock fresh.Make a nandroid backup now, and just restore to the new unit.

So my up volume rocker on my thunderbolt wont register a press. I spoke to tech support who said they would send me a new one, I just need to bring it to a store to show them I didn't drop it. only problem is I cant flash back to stock. Do you think they will visually inspect the phone or plug it in? Am I better off just paying the insurance deductible?

maybe if u can flash back a stock root rom they may not notice i also had to get my tb replaced bc the volume down button would not work and at verizon all they gonna do is turn it on and off and try a battery pull and try and press the volume button to make sure its a manufacture defect and make sure u bring ur tb box and sims card for faster replacement
i also droped my phone and put a small chip in it and it was no way related to the volume button so they could not say any thing
To unroot, just put the signed .ruu onto your SD card and boot into hboot via rom manager. It will install automatically and you will be unrooted, s-on and stock.

your best bet is to make it look at close to stock as possible and just delete any root apps like superusers n setcpu n do a instore exchange

I never thought about that either, Damn I wonder if there is another way?
I've seen a couple of posts like this bit I got to ask, how do you break your volume or power button in the first place? And if you did just return it.
^_^_^'s tbolt
I would make a thread asking for a completely stock nandroid backup. Just load that up before you go in.

Well I booted into the bootloader a million times and slammed the up arrow with a pen until it worked lol. So I'm back to stock. And when I went to Verizon they didn't even really look at the phone, they just said they would ship me a new one. Also, to answer a question, the rocker just stopped registering while I was at work one day.

My guess is the warranty department will be looking at all returns much, much closer now looking for a rooted phone so they can void warranties. Its good you were able to flash the stock RUU, for others who don't I bet you might find a $600 charge on your next Verizon bill. I do believe you could have used adb to push the stock RUU as well.

My dad cracked the screen on his Galaxy Note so I bought a replacement and replaced it. But when I turn the phone on the Samsung Galaxy Note logo turns from white to purple and everything after bootup has a purple tint to it. The weird thing is, if I boot up the phone with the old screen attached then replace the old one with the new one, while the phone is still on, the new one doesn't have purple tint to it. But if I reboot the phone with the new screen it turns purple again. I am not sure what to do. How can I fix this?
Get another replacement, there may be ways to fix it but you might as well just get new one because there could be more problems down the road

I can't really afford to pay another $250 for another replacement. Why does it work if I bootup with old screen then replace with new one while the phone is on? The phone must be detecting the new screen as something else and using the wrong display drivers or something. Can't I force it to use the right drivers?
Is it the right part from Samsung or is it a non OEM replacement?
And why did you steal my avatar!?

The LCD part # is AMS529HA01 which is the same part # as the original. It also has Samsung branding on the front as well as the ribbon cable. So it appears to be a OEM part. I did not get it from Samsung, I got it from smartphonebay.net, which says it is 100% OEM.

I upgraded it to ICS a few weeks ago.
i had a problem like that on an old phone it turned out to be the ribbon cable wasn't fully connected. i ended up putting a tiny piece of foam on the connector to hold it down real good once the phone was put back together.
I agree. It sounds like bad ribbon connection to some signal needed for boot detection.
I almost bought a $250 replacement when I cracked my glass. AT&T was no help. Samsung offered to fix it cheaper. $197.01 including parts, labor and shipping to and from Plano, TX.

A mate of mine is having the exact same issue as you. He brought his replacement screen off Ebay which was "claiming" 100% OEM. On boot the Samsung Galaxy Note logo stays white for a couple of seconds then turns a shade of purple. We did discover that if you install a GB rom the issue is resolved. In particular if a GB kernel is installed the issue goes away. Did you find a fix to your problem?

I've got the exact same problem. I replaced the display on my N7000 and a few seconds after showing the logo it goes purple and stays that way. I installed a GB ROM and voila! No more purple. But I want to run a Jelly Bean ROM! This is driving me nuts!
Anyone found another solution yet?
Hey, all. So, the other day I dropped the corner of a canvas frame on to the corner of my S III's screen and the LCD cracked. The display is completely blacked out now, and the digitizer is unresponsive. I put the phone up on eBay and just accepted a "Best Offer." Of course I wanted to wipe my data before shipping the phone, so I tried blindly to perform a factory reset through CWM. I do think it worked, since now I cannot connect to the device through adb (I assume that "USB Debugging" has been reset and is now turned off).
Still, I'd like to be more sure that my data is actually wiped. I would love to be able to see my phone's display, and I thought of using androidscreencast for this, but then I remembered that "USB Debugging" is turned off. Is there any way to turn it back on with use of the display/digitizer? Or, is there any other way for me to be sure that my data is wiped?
Thanks!
Why dont you buy a new screen?
Edit:I mean why sell it, unless you are gonna buy a new phone

Well, a new screen would cost me $220-240. Since I have an upgrade available on my AT&T account, I can just get a brand new Note II for just a little more cash ($270 with new agreement on Amazon). This is what I have already done. Now, since I charged the $270 on my credit card, I am wanting to put a significant dent in that debt by selling my broken S III. I was offered $200 for it on eBay. Done, and done. It all made sense to me.

I had just installed new kernel from TWRP, and rebooted. Nothing, just straight black screen. I cannot get to recovery or download mode. The battery was about 60% and plugged in when I did the kernel flash. If I hold the power button for a long time, the LED flashes orange about 10 times, then repeats the flashing pattern, only if plugged in to charger. I do not have a small torx to remove the screws and attempt a battery pull. Any ideas? As a note, the phone had been giving me various reboots for no apparent reason.
U prolly flashed a nexus 4 kernel on accident it will give u a hard brick time for JTAG then

Ugh, I was anticipating/dreading hearing that. I wonder if it is worth spending the money to fix. Any idea on the resale on these--working of course?. Thank you.

Which JTAG service did you use? MobileTechVideos?
Yes, MobileTechVideos. Phone was received by them Thursday. Still toying with keeping it for backup and canceling my insurance on the E980, assuming Josh can fix the thing.

Yeah JTAG is the best way to go. It sucks to lose all the data but at least you have a working phone. You 're only entitled of 2 claims within 12 months on Insurance. If you use them both you'll be dropped from the Insurance coverage for a year; no matter if you purchase a brand new device. So I'd suggest you save them
