Broken up volume rocker. Opinions - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my up volume rocker on my thunderbolt wont register a press. I spoke to tech support who said they would send me a new one, I just need to bring it to a store to show them I didn't drop it. only problem is I cant flash back to stock. Do you think they will visually inspect the phone or plug it in? Am I better off just paying the insurance deductible?

maybe if u can flash back a stock root rom they may not notice i also had to get my tb replaced bc the volume down button would not work and at verizon all they gonna do is turn it on and off and try a battery pull and try and press the volume button to make sure its a manufacture defect and make sure u bring ur tb box and sims card for faster replacement
i also droped my phone and put a small chip in it and it was no way related to the volume button so they could not say any thing

To unroot, just put the signed .ruu onto your SD card and boot into hboot via rom manager. It will install automatically and you will be unrooted, s-on and stock.

What's the worSt they can say? Your phones not under warranty? Or your contract is void pay an etf?

your best bet is to make it look at close to stock as possible and just delete any root apps like superusers n setcpu n do a instore exchange

I never thought about that either, Damn I wonder if there is another way?

I've seen a couple of posts like this bit I got to ask, how do you break your volume or power button in the first place? And if you did just return it.
^_^_^'s tbolt

I would make a thread asking for a completely stock nandroid backup. Just load that up before you go in.

Well I booted into the bootloader a million times and slammed the up arrow with a pen until it worked lol. So I'm back to stock. And when I went to Verizon they didn't even really look at the phone, they just said they would ship me a new one. Also, to answer a question, the rocker just stopped registering while I was at work one day.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

My guess is the warranty department will be looking at all returns much, much closer now looking for a rooted phone so they can void warranties. Its good you were able to flash the stock RUU, for others who don't I bet you might find a $600 charge on your next Verizon bill. I do believe you could have used adb to push the stock RUU as well.

Need to know

Hi, im haveing my EVO View repaired by HTC and i need to know how to un-revolutionary, because i dont have usb connectivity (The charging port is not working)
Could somone help me? I need to get back to S-ON
Just hope they don't charge. I asked the same thing before I shipped it out. Luckily they just emailed me today saying it's fixed and said they are going to ship back. How did you damage the port?
I mistakenly tried to put the wrong side of the charger plug in.
Very sensitive the port is

That won't over write the hboot. You need to be able to push the hboot with adb from recovery. Really not sure if there is a way to do it without a USB connection. Maybe in a terminal emulatorwhile booted although I am not sure if trying to push an hboot while fully booted

So, does anyone know if they can even tell? at this point the device wont power on, but they would have to repair it and charge it up to even know its rooted, right?

Correct. And the only way to do this would be to somehow dd a stock HBOOT (I could provide one) over the revolutionary one, and reflash the stock ROM. It would go like this, but since your device isn't powered it's kinda useless:
1. Install the stock RUU on your device (extract the rom.zip from it, google extract rom.zip extract RUU) rename the rom.zip PG41IMG and place on sdcard >>> reboot into hboot.
2. After 2 complete passes, reboot into the system with the hboot of the RUU on the sd. DD it using Terminal Emulator (a command like this, don't actually run it: dd if=/hboot.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18)
3. Reboot into fast boot to confirm the stock restore.
4. ???
5. Profit
Now obviously the device will require power here and when I used this method I had to stop midway to charge, so even 40% battery isn't an option.
EDIT: If you can get some battery, just do HTC Unlock. Although it's a warranty void, I think HTC would provide support rather to the guy who used their tools instead of a third party one.
My 2 cents, but their 1950 special edition ones so don't lose em!
Oh yeah I just realized you could take your sdcard out and put it into the computer to put files on it, if you can even get it charged though :/

Okay. So your saying that since it can't boot I'm fine, the would HAVE to fix it because it disent have enough charge?
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
I had the same problem back in December. My advice is to turn off your device and conserve as much battery power as you can until you figure out what to do, because once you run out, you're stuck. Unfortunately for me, I found out my port was broken when I plugged it in when I ran out of batteries. I sent it to HTC though, and within a couple weeks I had it back, with HC on it. If you do send it in, make sure to back everything up because they flashed mine.

Well if HTC fixes the port and charges it up and finds revolutionary, I doubt they would refuse to send it back. They've fixed it already.
there have been a couple of people who managed to charge their flyer by taking off the back plate and charging the battery directly. This would only fix a portion of your problem. In the end if you do not have usb connectivity I am not sure you can replace the Hboot. If the port is broken it really has nothing to do with being S Off. I can not see why it would impact the repairs, although I think you stand a decent chance of recieving an invoice.

Photon wont charge?

hello i didnt want to open a thread but i cannot find the anwser to my problem ive had for 2 weeks
1.my phone will not charge from the stock charger yes i have tried 6 different chargers
2.sbf alot times
3. locked boot loader
4.factory reset
5.different batteries
cant think of anything else the only way it charges is when i connect usb to my laptop and mount sd if i dont mount sd it doesn't charge when i power phone off it just turns back on if i connect it doesn't give me the charging animation when phone is off if anybody knows a fix please let me know or if you want to help find a solution to fix it im all in it as i read alot of Motorolas have this problem but i cant find a fix for it
thanks
I suppose it is hardware related, maybe you can go to the Moto repair center to have your phone checked.

NO!!!! That is INCORRECT! Make sure you phone is LOCKED before you take it to best-buy or Sprint!!!!! You got the phone under warranty Locked, they will standby that. If you unlocked it and they see it, that means you f**ked with it which voids the warranty and they don't owe you s**t!

You don't have to take my word for it, ask a forum admin. He**, go to another phone and ask around there! Look [email protected], the instructions for ANY Flash/Root/Unlock starts out with "This will void your warranty and I'm not responsible if you brick your phone!" Then they give you instructions.
Even if you take it in unlocked and they find out and you say screw it and walk out, then fix it yourself back to stock, your still f**ked. They will upgrade your account with note that you did it, so if something jacked later, T.E.P is off the hook!!!
Note: I know all this because I was a B.E.S. Admin for @ 7 years. My old job, I did not work in Mobile support, but I loved flashing Windows phones and they had like 40 of them laying around. Sale guys would see **** I did, to embrassed to ask because it would make them look dumb, try it, brick it, go into Store, hence, company contract and warranty is gone!!!! Got into Android with Evo and never looked back!
I'm working but just looked @ briefly, e-mail me your e-mail and I will send you file and EXACT instructions to get you out of jam. In the mean time, you need to download RSDLite to your computer and install. Also, make sure you have 100% charge on your phone (you can go lower, but that is trouble too!). Also, free up USB on BACK of computer, not front!!
Trust me, I spent 2 days without phone, I know how it feels!
I'm Home! [email protected]!
My bad a lil lost so are you saying to sbf because I already did and it didn't fix the problem what I can try is someone can do a fresh install backup with none of your info and pm a zip or files and see what my is missing

WTF?!?! Any ideas?????
It's a known hardware issue that Verizon is well aware of. It's happened to me twice (on my 3rd Bolt) and they will replace it for free. All you have to do is call 611 and get a rep on the phone. Sucks...I know!

I'm 100% sure. I tried everything (Reflashed Roms, Tried various Keyboards, Unrooted, and still nothing...) the first time it happened to me. You'll notice if you go into landscape mode in the messaging app it'll work fine. The screen has deadspots on it. You have to call them and they will send you another one "next day" air and within that package, besides the "new" phone, they'll be return labels. Just unroot your device factory reset everything and ship it back.
I will call. use my phone for work everyday though and have to have it for work... Can I go to a store instead and get one you think?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA
You can try, but not sure that they'll come thru for ya. Best bet would be to hang in there until you have a day or two off then call so it doesn't impact your employment. And in the meantime use the phone in landscape mode for what you need it for.

I'm positive...all they'll say is to factory rest blah, blah, blah...they shouldn't tho...the only way they'll know is if you tell them...a knowledgeable rep will know exactly the issue. It's a known issue period. Look on the Verizon website. You have to know how to enter it!
Shut down the device.
Hold down Volume Down and hold down Power until you boot into the HBOOT menu.
Select the RECOVERY option using the Volume buttons.
Your phone will show the white HTC screen, then you'll see a black screen. It will take a while but it will say failed to mount sd four times. Wait until it turns into a red triangle with an exclamation point inside the triangle and from there, hold down the Volume Up and then press the Power button. You will see a small list, this is stock recovery

Same deal. I had to replace mine back in January. $99 and got a brand new model as a replacement. I'm not sure how much it costs to replace the LCD, but if it's anywhere close to $100, I'd just replace the whole unit. you'll get a new product that is scratch and blemish free, the USB cover will last a few months, and you can root / unlock fresh.Make a nandroid backup now, and just restore to the new unit.
