Background: I did something stupid on a recent business trip and now I'm afraid I've permanently messed up my SIM on my Note 2.
After experiencing poor 4G reception a coworker suggested I tried dialing *228, option 2, to update my roaming capabilities. I've used this method on many previous Verizon phones so I didn't hesitate to do so. Little did I know (I should have researched first) that this wasn't necessary on an LTE phone.
What's happened now is it appears my phone is stuck in 3G mode. I've tried going into my network settings (currently running the Liquid Smooth 2.7 ROM) to toggle between network modes and haven't had any luck. I've also tried pulling the battery and SIM for a few minutes without any results there either. I didn't have any luck finding the right "phone info" app (the ones I find on Play aren't what I've seen in some of the tutorial videos), so I'm at a dead end there as well.
I've searched on XDA and around the web and have come across a couple of muddied solutions, but right now I'm seeing my only options as:
- Wait 90-180 days for the PRL on the SIM to update automatically.
- Contact Verizon and request a new SIM
- Attempt to use some intense developers tools to plant my own PRL (if so, does anyone have a good tutorial link or a good PRL to use?)
I could really use some expert advice on how to tackle this problem, or at least some insight as to what my possible solutions are. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried going back to a stock romantic and seeing if you can switch networks back? Or maybe reflashing the radios/modem see if that does anything?

You are going to have to get a new SIM, using *228 burn the SIM up and you're lucky you even pick up any service with it, just go to a Verizon store and tell them what you did, the *228 part not rooting and romming, and you need a replacement SIMA because it messes your phone up. It will be free.
The only acceptable way to update it on LTE phones is to take the SIM out, boot the phone back up, let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes, power off, reinsert SIM, reboot phone. That's the only one I know of, there may be other ways to do it but that is the easiest.

Ok, so i'm new to this whole android thing and came up on a TB. Sorry for the noobness of this...i did a search, but couldn't find anything relating to my problem. hoping someone could give some advice.
I tried to activate it the other day and it took some time to activate(i guess Verizon's network was down), but the 4g LTE was fully functioning. Phone was recognized on my account at verizon and everything checked out.
however, when i tried to make a phone call, i got the message 'welcome to verizon wireless. your phone number is not active or invalid'. one thing i did notice was the roaming triangle above the signal bars. btw, i did try contacting verizon and they didn't know what was going on..they kept blaming the downed network.
i couldn't get it to work so i had to switch back to my whackberry.
Anyone know what the problem is and how to activate it? any advice would be awesome!
thanks for the help in advance!
Might need a new sim card...

i tired two sim cards already...no luck.
Ok, I've had issues with this phone that began with a bad battery. I got a new battery through insurance and my problems continued, even worsened. The phone will lose network connection constantly. It will reboot on it's own or during use. This is the only way it will obtain network connection once lost.... I went to at&t a million times and they flashed it for me a few times, replaced my SIM card three timesthis month and no luck. I decided to be brave and root it with cyanogenmods latest 4.4.2 kitkat (which I love, props to them) and it still continues to do the same crap! It's getting old and im beginning to think it must be a hardware issue, but I read about flashing a modem for the phone. Does anyone know if this might solve the problem or is it likely a hardware malfunction?
It seems to cause the most issues when im not on wifi or when LTE is activated.
Tried the *#*#4636#*#* code to change the connectivity settings but the only option im allowed to use is the lte/gsm auto (PRL).
Any advice is appreciated.... my next option is shooting it with my shotgun and using it as a conversational piece at the office.... maybe a

Could be a modem issue, could be as simple as changing you APN settings. Where is your location? Could be affecting you a bit. Run a search, many have had this issue.

No need for target practice! Did you replace your phone through Asurion? If so, all replacement devices come with a 12-month limited warranty. How long have you had your replacement phone? We're here to help!
Thanks!

I live in central Arkansas and I'm not exactly sure how to check my APN settings...?? And if it's a common issue based on location, why does AT&T not recommend a solution to anyone with problems? Or do they and I just don't know?
I've ran this phone on straightalk 3g for about a year. Recently upgtaded to a lte sim and loose signal a lot since. Miss calls. Don't get text. I have read certain art lte towers have this problem. Sounds good since my wife's s4 has same problem. Both phones ran fine and got calls on 3g sims

I found the settings directly through the AT&T website but theyb only povide 4G HSPA+ settings.. which are not LTE.
Follow this steps and check if your APN settings match, and if they don't then just create a new profile with the settings in this link:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ogle-nexus-5-t-lte-apns-network-settings.html
Techinically, this settings are stated to be for the Nexus 5, but the APN are carrier based, so regardless if it states Nexus 5 APN settings they would still work for our OG Note
You should be able to get to your settings by going to settings / wireless data & networks ---more / mobile networks --- Access Point Names
Hope this helps!
Hey everyone,
I've been delaying action on this but the OTA update got me into gear.
For the past few months i've been having an issue where my phone will drop from 4G to 3g, and a SIM icon with a ? will show up. Toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone fixes it. Because I wanted to dodge today's OTA, I went ahead and rooted via STUMP, but the issue is hard to reproduce (i have a screenshot). I always ensure that my network is set to LTE/CDMA instead of Global, but it almost feels like its auto-switching at some point (maybe when the signal drops)
Im thinking next step is to get a replacement SIM from VZW. My fear is that the SIM wont fix it, i'll need a hardware replacement, and the one they give me will have shipped with ioRoot/stump/bump patched.
Anyone have this issue and resolve it completely without a full replacement? If so, how? Ive tried a battery pull but that didnt help, ive never removed the SIM on this phone
Thanks!
Happened to me before and I ended up getting a new SIM from VZW and then activating it and it didn't have an issue after that.
Not with my G3 but with my RAZR MAXX

Just so you know, I was recently having some strange 4g to 3g drops (you can read by thread in this same Q&A section). They were under very different circumstances, but one thing that remained constant was not amount of resetting or reflashing other roms fixed them. After exhausting all other options and thinking I may have to try and get a new sim to see if that fixed things, I took a last ditch effort and used the .tot file and lg flash tool to fully wipe the device back to 100% out of box stock. After doing this my issues have vanished. I'm thinking something got seriously hosed in the radio somehow, and granted I never got any "?" notifications so it's a long shot at best, but something you may consider if all else fails!
If you have never pulled your SIM before, you might want to pull it and reseat it a few times, just to make it self-clean. Save a trip to Verizon, maybe.

Hello there,
I have been using Tesco Mobile with my Redmi Note 2 for a couple of months now and have had no problem. I decided to switch networks to a VPN called Life Mobile. They use EE's network in the UK. Since putting in the sim card today I have not been able to connect to the mobile network. I am wondering if anyone else on this network with this phone could help? I have called Life Mobile's helpline and all they wanted to do was run me through EE's apn settings. I had already used their app and also searched elsewhere on the web to find a few different APN settings but none of them worked.
One thing I'm wondering about if whether or not the custom ROM/firmware (MUI 7 I believe) that the phone shipped with (bought online from China by the way) is having anything to do with the internet problems. I get the feeling the customer service for Life Mobile were fobbing me off when they said that maybe my phone just isn't compatible with their network. Phone calls and texts work fine by the way.
Does anything think flashing the phone to the standard android ROM that's available would have any affect on the internet settings. I'm no mobile expert, and with the phone not being on general sale in the UK yet as far as I know, I would appreciate your help to get this internet/mobile data settings issues sorted, as I do use my phone for work.
Thanks in advance for comments and help.
I definitely know that the ROM that came with my phone from Gearbest was the worst piece of software that I have ever used in my life... ever. Check your MIUI build number and see if it's something like 5.xx.xx or 7.xx.xx. If it's something more like 77.55.66, then you have a knock-off and it may be eating your battery, performance, and experience (the original ROM Gearbest flashed on my phone had so much bloatware that the antivirus warned me about one of the programs every ten minutes, and heated up significantly on the home screen). If you have an unofficial ROM, try flashing a developer weekly or stable.
Hi all.
Well, would you believe it, I have spent a large part of the day trying to figure this out and finally I've done it. I'm not quite sure how but I've done it. I'll explain briefly to help anyone else who may be facing the same problem. It seems that changing the network preference setting within the sim settings from LTE to 3G did the trick. Life Mobile does not support 4G as far as I'm aware. That's no problem for me as I'm perfectly happy using 3G when necessary. After doing that and fiddling with the network settings, eventually reverting back to the automatic selection of the network as EE and using the APN default settings as given by the sim when it first was entered into the phone, things suddenly start to kick into life and we had INTERNET!
Thanks for your help in resolving this, and happy New Year to everyone.

Hi mate,
I'm having the same issue now on life mobile, I've checked all the settings are right but still not picking up mobile data. Any suggestions? Constantly restarting it hoping something will be different but nothing so far.

Driving me crazy as well (on a Lenovo K3 Note). Still have the Tesco SIM in there. Was going to port the number on Monday, but might get them to take the damn thing back!
Tried all the suggestions above, but nothing working. Tried both SIM slots with and without the other SIM, but nothing. Grrrrr....

Well, they sent me a new SIM card and I had all the same problems until I switched on "data roaming" and it now works fine (it didn't do anything with the last SIM though, when I tried it in another phone, I had to have date roaming on in order to even get a regular signal- data still did not work). I have seen transient "R" occurring when the SIM was activated/deactivated so had suspected this as a problem.
Hello, first I want to thank XDA and everyone here for all of the wonderful help that I've been given over the years silently because I've always came here if I had an issue and I haven't found one that hasn't been solved yet. So, sincerely I thank all of you. Now on to my problem. I have a OP Nord N200 5G bootloader unlocked on OOS 11 that is rooted running Orange Fox Recovery. But this problem existed before unlock, root and recovery. When I pull down the notification panel it says that I'm connected to the AT&T tower and I'm with Metro by T-mobile which sometimes it will say it's connected to Metro. When it's connected to AT&T it gets really slow, but I have service. I've done all the hard reset, network reset as well as called Metro like 6 times but nothing they've done has worked. I have been dealing with this issue from the day I've bought it and it needs fixing. Can anyone please help me with this issue? I want to thank you in advance for taking time to even read my request. Thank you. Below are screenshots showing my issue. Pics were taken literally while I was going over my post. Thanks.
Under Settings > Wi-Fi & Network > SIM & Network you can press Network Operators and toggle "Choose Automatically". It will allow you to select the carrier you want to latch onto manually. When you toggle this off, it will take anywhere from 2-5 minutes before you're presented with the list of carriers it finds. It's taken longer for me at times.
Thanks for your reply, but I've done all that already. Reset the network, flashed the stock rom and even restored a backup. I'm at a loss for this one and I've never even heard of this. I'm thinking that maybe if I install a custom rom like Lineage, it may run it on the right network the sim is on. Thank you again for your time and advice.
What do you see when you see a signal checker app? are you actually on AT&T? Maybe your in a fringe area and its roaming?
