Hi people
This is my first time posting here, Im sure this question was asked quite a few times, but i couldnt find any relevant posts in the foum.
So I backed up my phone using CWM before flashing Slimbean ROM, Now I'm done flashing and want to get back y data including contacts sms photos etc. Is there anyway to do so using CWM? everytime i try restoring it restores back to the stock ROM. is there anyway to just restore the data on my phone and not the Stock ROM?
thx for the help:laugh::laugh:

CWM backups are full Rom backups, hence it restores the full Rom, I guess there is a way to extract certain parts of the backup though. Usually to backup data etc you would use titanium backup, and for contacts it r is easier to sync them to Google.

You can try from recovery restoring Data only but it may not work 100% on a different firmware

Restore your rom. Install titanium backup and backup your data. Your contacts will be resynced from gmail and your photos won't be deleted. I think this is the easiest way.

I've search around the forum and i can't find the answer i really want so i decided to post here. Anyways..
When I want to flash a custom rom (that requires wipe data), I back up with CWM, install the ROM, then advance restore -> restore data only. Is that the right way to do if i want to keep my settings while switching ROMs?
Thanks!
you can......BUT......restoring system data is not advisable, it may lead to multiple problems.....take the time to set up again, that way you will be exploring your new Roms settings, and definitely don't restore data if you are dealing between Samsung based Roms and others eg. Cm10/aosp/aokp

In my experience, the same is valid for TB, do not restore system data. For user apps (e.g. games), till now I had no problem restoring their data.

Yeah , well what i do for back up while flashing roms is the following:
pictures +music files +videos + contacts > back up to external sd
apps > titanium pro (best way) and you can also restore app data but as the other guy said , is not always recommended...
good luck ...
This question has been asked multiple times .

1) I did a titanium back up and then mistakenly restored user app+data TiBu gave a warning message that the restore might not work properly on the new rom and then it certainly didn't work and ended up having a FC
2) I flashed again and before flashing i did a TiBu but after flashing TiBu showed no back up's taken. After lot of reading i was told to restore via cwm through advance restore(restore data) but that resulted in stuck up at boot animation so i returned back to previous rom.
3)The question still remains answered.....
Follow the link to sticky roll-up in my signature and read "understanding the basics before rooting"... I've updated the backups section which may help you with titanium

Hi guys, my question is: are you using Google account to backup/restore after full wipe?
My experience is that only application linked to Paly Store are restored (start installing after set up Google account).
Is it necessary (or recommended) to backup data to Google? Or is it useless?
Thanks

IMO it's useless, backing up with a custom recovery and Titanium Backup is more than enough.

Thanks. I don't know what data are backed up via Google but I think nothing important for recovery after flashing...
Custom recoveries will not wipe the music or dcim folder and therefore u do not nid to back up those.

Hi there,
Sorry if a similar thread has been opened numerous times. But I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I rooted my S3 and want to try a couple of ROMs before I decide to settle on one of them.
I had a rom backup using ROM Manager, but I'm guessing that backup includes everything in my current system. I'll keep it, it's good to have an extra backup.
My question is, is there a way for me to have a backup of only some apps and their gallery folders (ie Whatsapp Shared Images folder, Instagram), my contacts and all of my pictures so I can get only the things I want back when I'm trying out new ROMs.
Also, what do you suggest before installing a custom rom? Thanks.

The app part you can do so with titanium backup or some similar 3rd part applications, I am sure they hundreds outta there.
Install new ROM won't affect your sdcard, so the images shared folder is OK, and setting can be restore by titanium backcup
Nothing special to suggest, just remember back up before you do it.

Don't use Rom manager
To back up make a nandroid in recovery
Back up efs with HC-KTOOL
Backup with titanium pro as well
Then make copies of all and duplicate to pc/cloud/etc
Thank you both for the answers. Especially about efs, I had no idea how harmful it was to not have a backup of it.
Hi guys,
Uhmm yeah, my question would be if after installing a custom ROM how you must uninstall it. And when you install one do you lose your apps, contacts etc?
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium
why are you open the thread here?
is should be in Q&A Thread!
1) to uninstall the ROM, flash back the stock ROM. (you can find it at GENERAL thread)
2) the method is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985398
3) you will not lose any data if you not wipe data in recovery mode (or format)
Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. But thanks for the answer
Usually you need to do a full wipe when installing a custom rom to make sure there are no problems or bugs.
Than you will lose everything on your internal memory, so make sure you backup your apps/contacts/pictures if you want to keep them.
You can try Google or search button on how to make a good backup. I personally backup my contacts with my Google account and apps with Titanium backup pro.
Good luck! (of succes

Well thanks for the reply. Titanium is enough or is a nandroid backup more complete?
A nandroid backup is for backing up the system. That includes rom, kernel and all settings (correct me if I'm wrong).
If I were you I would search for a guide on backing up your files.

Okay thanks. I'll do some googling this afternoon
Nandroid backup is complete backup of your phone.
Look in my signature and you'll find dedicated topic is described nandroid backup.

question:
ive flashed roms before and created nandroid backups
wen i try selectively restore after flashing a new rom there is always a problem like crashes or reboots etc without success
how do i restore msgs and games/game data after flashing a new rom?
i have Resurrection rom now if i wanted to go to miui is it possible to restore my games and msgs etc ?
Titanium Backup Pro (buy it from Google Play). Enables you to backup your apps/settings & also backup SMS/call logs to XML files which you can then restore.

The nandroid backup you had taken then, will restore the phone as an exact snapshot of how it was then. Any apps installed since (or SMS received for example) will be lost, but the phone will be exactly as it was when you took the backup.
If there are SMS that need to be backed up, I recommend SMS backup+, it will back up SMS to your Gmail account. You can even browse them as emails in gmail.
Any apps / data that you want to backup over and above what is in the nandroid backup, use Titanium. With this, ONLY backup and restore USER APPS. System data is incompatible.
Hope this helps. There are some guides in General, under "Roll-up Sticky thread". You should be able to get all teh info you need (including back ups) from tehre.
