a lot of thanks..
you said kernel is on the rom..and in second answer u r saying stock kernel is not enough if i want super nexus..do i have to flash new kernel before flashing rom or simply flash the custom rom and it automatically installs kernel
and as per the 4th question..iam asking.. is photosphere feature is there in supernexus 2.0 rom not on supernexus kernel..
and thank you for u r patience over my dumb questions..really appreciable.

Rom includes kernel. When you flash a rom, it replaces the existing rom and kernel.
Stock kernels are not compatible with aosp roms.
You don't need to flash a kernel after the rom. It includes everything you need already. However, there are custom kernels you can flash afterwards if you like.

if a rom already includes a kernel..then why we have to flash other custom kernels??
"However, there are custom kernels you can flash afterwards if you like."
are these custom kernels having any additional capabilites other than the kernel present in current rom?? sry if iam wrong about question..

the kernel that comes with the rom already has some abilities. some other custom kernels like siyah, devil.. etc., have "some" additional capabilities that you can see in the respective thread.

[Q] should i must have to change the kernel if i change the ROM?

hi guys,
i wanna ask you senious guys that, should i have to change the kernel each time if i want to change the ROM of my galaxy s II or any kernel will work with any ROM?
kindly assist me in this matter.thanks.
What type of Rom are you trying to flash?
Most custom roms include a kernel so you you will have to refresh back to your preferred kernel.
Or you can open the zip file and replace the kernel of your choice as long as it matches your firmware version, ie GB kernel for a GB rom etc.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
let me add the screen shot for your help.it might shows the ROM and kernel and suggest me the best ROM and kernel for my galaxy s II.and tell me which ROM and kernel is best for battery life cause this kernel and ROM is just crap and sucks the battery.

any kernel may not work with any ROMs...almost all samsung firmware versions has got its own versions of Kernel.
In SGS2 normaly custom kernels are used for rooting your phone, like CF-root, whcih are made for almost all the samsung firamware matched kernels, you only want to pick the one matching for your ROM.
It is also seen sometimes advised to back up your Kernel, this can be done using a tool from Market called "Ktool", at a worst scenario, when your installed custom kernel giving you a treble you can restore the previous one.
EDIT : you are already on a custom ROM as well as Custom Kernel. both have got their newer versions alredy.
checkrom is now on V6, and Siyah kernel is now on v2.6.14
Well your still on gingerbread and an early kernel and early checkrom. There are many roms and kernels you can try the best for battery life us what works best for you and only you can figure that out with testing.
Try out an ICS Rom if you haven't done so already and there are now custom kernels for that as well.

I meant the kernel that is already included with the rom when you flash it. So just flash the rom and you don't need to install another kernel after it.
Here is a link to the Resurrection rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
Hope this helped you
If you flash a rom it replaces the kernel you've been using with that of the rom you're flashing...
Soooo
Eg cm9 + siyah
If you flash a new nightly it'll replace siyah with cm9s kernel so you have to flash siyah each time.
Think that makes sense..!

Clockwork comes with cfroot.
Yes you can flash cm9 using cwm
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
By flashing an insecure kernel, you will get clockwork mod recovery boot menu.
You can flash cyanogen by finding the zip, full wipe (look up instructions, not sure if needed). Or just get a CM9 based rom like D4.
Sent from my GT-I9100
So no safe stable ICS Cyanogenmod yet?
Or
Or an aopk based rom like Hydrog3n

They dont want to release it as stable yet, but the nighlies i've tried are working really good. Check the q&a thread of cm9, theres not alot on the not working list.
Ive heard that if you use CF root you cant install rom manager, is this true?
I have no clue, but from what I understand it is not really necessary (you can already backup, restore, update within CWM) so why even bother with another app? Just my two cents.
Re cyanogen, I think pretty much everything is working except HDMI out. Nevertheless I highly recommend a rom based on CM9 or aokp as someone else said.

While this is true,i wouldn't try it to be honest.. Allot of phones were bricked using rom manager :/
Just sick to cwm recovery menu it has everything you may possibly need.

Why don't you read some pinned threads before posting new threads?
In addition the mods don't like to see "the best blabla" threads

It's in every stock ROM. if you're rooted, using the stock kernel is all a bit pointless IMHO. "Cooked" ones can be better for battery life.
Stock kernel? Maybe the already installed sammy kernel on the official firmware

I lol'd a bit.
Stock Kernel is S3's original kernel. So if you didn't flash any kernel, you don't need to flash something.
Bad= not reading forum rules
Bad= not reading and learning
Bad= not using search
Good= the opposite of all the above
Fail= this thread
This!

Yes , I flashed Phenomenal2 Kernel,
That is why i am looking for the STOCK kernel to download......
So you have to flash a original firmware OR you download Omega App, go to Kernel, choose the right insecure Stock Kernel for your firmware and flash it via CWM
Although it's senseless, because you have no disadventages against the stock kernel with any custom kernel
thread closed - subjective - try them and decide for yourself

No, your kernel won't be touched. Just make sure it's possible to flash the new second rom with the Siyah kernel you use right now.

Well that obviously depends on which version of Siyah you want to use as they all support different bases.
You would be much better off finding a rom you like and then flashing the appropriate Siyah kernel for it. However you can start off on any kernel version you like as custom rom will replace with its own kernel anyway so just flash Siyah again afterwards.
Also please note that this type of question is not allowed for various reason.

[Kernel] Kernel for leaks??

I often switch between different ROMs, then for me Siyah kernel is a good choice! But unfortunately, it doesn't support 4.2.X leaks. Then, when i want to boot a 4.2.X Samsung ROM, i'd like to simply flash a compatible .zip kernel, and not the whole ROM again! It's good even the stock one, but i can't find the .zip to flash it.. Can someone help me to find a working kernel??
Thanks in advance
There is NO custom kernel for the leaked 4.2.x at this moment as Samsung didn't drop out the source so no way to customize it

Just reflash the full rom. It may be that the glamour kernel is repacked in a slightly modified state so the original leak kernel may not work. reflash the rom

Yes, i think the same thing. But it'd be very faster and useful to flash only kernel, and not the whole ROM.. Peace, i'll make a reason for that!
Anyway, thanks everybody!!
It takes 1 minute to flash a rom.
