[Q] what does "data wiping option in AROMA" mean?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry if it is newbie question..
as i am quite unsatisfied with battery life of pardus hd rom,,thinking of installing android revolution hd.
in installation instruction i saw "data wiping option in AROMA"
what does it mean?? how can i do that? please tell me..(android revolution hd: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334)
thanx in advance..

when flashing the rom, choose the data wiping option in the installer

Aroma is an installation wizard tailor made by the developer for each rom. If the instructions for a rom say "wipe data in aroma" they have obviously created an option in aroma for you to wipe data.

or any particular installer??
sorry i am still newbie..

If a rom has aroma, it comes up after you chose to flash the zip via recovery. See it as an interactive install from recovery. Just flash zips in the usual way. If its aroma, it will pop up

so many terms. finally got it after searching and found this thread.

To all in the thread, is it correct to assume that if you wipe data in AROMA then you do not have to worry about firmware updates and MID/CID matching?
I am going to flash a custom ROM (which has AROMA option) on my HTC One via custom recovery (not via hboot/bootloader) so I assume I am in the clear from any risks of bricking??
For reference, I am a slightly above average newbie

You are in the wrong forum to ask questions about HTC, i9300 is totally different so no, you could brick it.

Few questions

Hi, I'm new here and recently got hold of the Samsung Galaxy Ace and was thinking about installing this custom ROM (RazrUIV3) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478807
I have tried to understand the stickied thread at the top in regards to using ODIN to do so but I really have no idea what the thread means. I have however found a helpful youtube video to help me, but I would like to verify whether is it ok to do so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlgZK7VsecA&feature=player_embedded
I see he followed most of the instructions on the page but only wiped the data and factory reset, what is this davlik cache? Thanks for taking time to read my question and apologies if my English is poor.

Sorry I couldn't watch the video because my bandwidth is very limited. I suggest you look at GadgetCheck's videos on flashing the SGAce. No offence to the aforementioned video uploader, though, I just think that GadgetCheck is really reliable and clear on his steps.

The Dalvik Cache is... to simplify just a special type of cache used by most .apk files.
Thanks for the help. I will have a look at Gadgets video. Is the ODIN method in the stickied thread the only way to install a rom? Or can it just be down via CWM?

Both are corrects, but with differences:
ODIN it's for flashing stock roms, and CMW it's for installing custom roms, over the already installed stock so, basically, you've to follow this steps:
1.- Flash any stock rom you want with odin and wipe (cache and partition)
2.- Copy in to your sdcard the CWM and the custom rom (from massive storage mode).*
3.- Run in recovery mode and install the new cwm. Reboot.*
4.- Run in recovery mode (again) and install your custom rom.
5.- Wipe (cache and partition) and reboot.
Now you're running your new custom rom.
* Thats only if the custom rom you want to install need it
I hope helped you
for razrui u need cwm 4 not 5

Yes, that means wiping /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache, and fixing permissions in recovery.
Or better yet, download Th3Bill's Full Wipe .zip from jokers website.

I think Acvice means to select full wipe option inside aroma installer. if you do a full wipe before flashing a rom with an aroma installer it will fail because it needs a working rom as a base.

That is what i meant. But to my knowledge, you 'can' do a full wipe before Aroma, but during the install process you would need to use the volume buttons to select options as the touchscreen won't work. It's just kindof redundant as you get the option to do a full wipe within Aroma anyway.

[Q] NOOB flashing question

I'm currently running CM10.1 nightlies, I quite fancy trying out a stock based ROM, can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on or will i need to flash back to stock first?

the best stock based rom i have come across is this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998701&highlight=phenom
You don't need to flash a stock rom with Odin and your PC, just use CWM. Just follow the instructions on the page, i've pasted them below for your convenience.
***COMING FROM A DIFFERENT ROM A FULL WIPE IS RECOMMENDED***
***FULL WIPE***
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Wipe data/factory reset in recovery
Wipe Cache & Davilk Cache
Flash Rom in CWM
Reboot
[EDIT] "can I just flash as usual using a ROM manager from the phone being turned on" - yes.

You have to do a megawipe if coming back from 4.2 roms, as these roms change the folder structure of internal storage. Dont forget to backup everything in your internal storage or you will lose them.
Many others have faced problems later by not doing a megawipe.
lefttobleed - pardon my ignorance, can this be done within the ROM manager or is it worth going into recovery to do this? I don't have my phone for a couple of days so I can't currently check settings.
Thanks

you have to go into recovery and flash the megawipe aroma file. sorry i dont remember the link for the file. Search for it.
Please note that i am not familiar with rom manager so i dont know whether this can be done with rom manager. I always flash through recovery.
Edit: Please dont try this through rom manager... i feel something might go really wrong.

[Q] Flashing ROMs with XT912

Hey guys.
I'm not new to rooting and flashing ROMs, but this RAZR is much different from the phones I'm used to... so I must start off as a noob with this phone. Also, I'm overly used to using Clockwork Mod Recovery and Safestrap is a bit different.
I need to know how to flash ROMs on my XT912 RAZR.
In Clockwork Mod Recovery, I used to wipe data 3x to make sure everything was cleared, wipe cache and then wipe dalvik cache... then flash the ROM.
Is this the same method used or are the steps to install a ROM different for this device?
Thanks.
I hate to ask such a noob question, but I really can't afford to make a mistake. Phones aren't cheap.

Use Safestrap recovery by Hashcode. It is based on TWRP. You can also dual boot roms (or even 3 and 4) on this phone. If you want more advanced or based on CWM, install the Boot Menu Manager in playstore

To flash a ROM you have to create a ROM-Slot in "Boot Options" then go to "Install" Then pick your ROM and that's it.
If your coming from another ROM you go to "Wipe" then wipe Dalvik Cache, then Cache then you Wipe System, then you go back and go to "Install" and pick your ROM.

Do you recommend I check the zip file signature verification or the force MD5 check on all zips before flashing a ROM?
Or just not check either box and continue with the flash?
Idk, that's up to you. I have those unchecked. I just continue with the flash.

I checked both of them and it fails to flash. I just double checked the MD5 and then flashed anyways.
Luckily I'm not regretting anything. Haha.

I rarely check those when flashing. Though I don't know if it is bad practice or not.

[Q] [HELP] Cyanogenmod 10.1 4.2.2 unfortunately setup wizard has stopped

Please I need help guys! I earlier today rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 international variant i9300. After this I went about to install a custom ROM the Cyanogen Mod 10.1 4.2.2 rom, and to do this I followed the this method on YouTube:
After I completed the installation I it showed the Cyanogen Mod logo which looked amazing but after this I kept getting "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" and "unfortunately google framework services has stopped". I am sure that I maybe installed the older version of gapps and this is why this is happening. How can I fix this issue?
Please help! I have tried almost everything!
Thank you!!!

flash CWM touch recovery(latest ones) via desktop odin. then put your CM10.1 and latest gapps .zip files on your sdcard. reboot into CWM touch recovery and then flash the files after wiping data, cache and dalvik cahce!
We all were noobs at some point i'll help u out
Lets start from top.
To get cwm:
- flash cwm or twrp from odin ( i'll trust u know how to do that ) ( go for cwm this time )
To get phone up and running on cm:
-Re-download cm and respective gapps
-Turn off your phone
-Turn your phone on into recovery by pressing power+center+vol down (when the phone boots release power) and you'll be on cwm
-conect your phone to pc
-on cwm go to advanced settings
- mount usb storage
- phone will apear on pc, copy rom and gapps
- once done return to main "page" of cwm and wipe data/factory reset
- then install zip and select the rom zip first after zip is installed install gaps
- reboot phone after
- you'll be just fine
If that dont work out will talk about that later.
Take care
