Metal pins behind the back cover - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Im just wondering what the metal pins behind the back cover are. There are 4 sets of 2, and there yellowish/golden. What are they? And where they touch on the back cover the yellow paint/whatever seems to be worn off. Ill attach a picture of it(wont focus correctly without the lense thing)

I've seen somewhere that those are the phones antennas somehow. I'm not sure if its right tho

those are you bluetooth, wifi, etc contacts to the antennas integrated into the back cover. If your bluetooth or wifi start dropping this might a culprit. My bluetooth is usually not functional (I'm waiting on a replacement that is backordered) but when it first started to go out, squeezing the phone together just next to the volume controls would bring it back. here's some articles about it:

The longer antenna is for LTE I believe. If you take the cover the top right side of the phone with your hand, it loses some dBm, and goes back.

signal fluctuation issue *fixed*

so, over the past 2 weeks, the data on my phone would randomly drop out completely, then kick back in a few seconds later. it gradually got worse & decided to call verizon. beforehand, i tried the battery pull & then tried cleaning the antenna contacts(didn't work). i ended going through 5 service calls that did not go anywhere. they're supposed to call me back tomorrow & mentioned a phone exchange if the issue persists.
(btw i've been using the 2750 extended battery)
anyway, i decided to remove the extended battery & try going back to the normal for the hell of it. and that fixed the issue.... so now i just need to replace the extended battery door. i feel dumb for not trying it sooner, but also wonder why verizon never mentioned trying it.
I don't have an extender door and was having this issue. I reset the phone pulled the battery took my sim out and ad card. Put all back together and so far so good. Not sure what fixed it though.

I have the extended battery and while I don't have signal issues I might try soldering the contacts on the door a little to raise em up.
Also, do you use a case? That might help hold it together tighter.

I am expecting my fifth Rezound in 3 weeks because of data issues. There seems to a lot of people having the same issue lately.
If your near an lte area your phone is consistently trying to search for a signal, and when its searching it's sending information to make sure the phone is supposed to be activated on the network. That's the downfall of Long Term Evolution.

My Exchange Experience

So I recently had my HTC Amaze swapped out by T-Mobile because of a faulty headphone jack, and I feel that my experience may convince others to do the same if you're having problems.
Old Amaze:
Headphone problems, constantly screwing up.
Squeaky battery cover (or so it seemed)
Light bled through the side of phone (there was what looked like a faulty glue seal on the side)
Volume up button always looked "pushed in"
New Amaze:
Headphones work perfect
Battery cover doesn't squeak (thank god)
No more light bleeding problem.
Volume buttons look normal
I'm not sure if the device is refurbed or not, but I really don't care. This one works and that's good enough for me. I simply called T-Mobile, explained my problems to the representative, and they had a replacement shipped to my house within 4 days. The only problem is that you're supposed to pay $20 for a warranty exchange, but after some very polite conversation I managed to get her to drop it to $10. It didn't come with a back cover, but it seems that the new unit literally fixed all my problems. I recommend that if you need to get your device replaced, do it now, as it isn't a very difficult process and they are very friendly (as usual) every step of the way.
This is a HUGE step up from AT&T's "this is clearly your fault" policies. I'm so glad I switched carriers.
Just my 2cents.
I had issues with the Sensation 4g and after 8 replacements they sent me a brand new Amaze 4g. I've had it for a week and so far so good, only one small flaw is the bezel on the lower bottom bleeds a tiny bit of light.

My G2 was replaces with a mt4gs that have me powering off problems after a week. They sent me 4 more which 2 would not read the sim. 3rd wouldn't accept sd card. They called to follow up and I told them how unhappy I was with the mt4gs. They sent me a brand new in retail sealed box amaze. Over nighted.

OP, when you mention "squeaky battery cover" is it when you press on the back cover it squeaks or there's a bit of give?
I'm finding that's the issue w/ my current amaze. I press on the back cover at a specific place and it kinda "clicks". Not sure if I should request a new back cover (if that'll fix the problem).

My amaze stops vibrating about once a week. However, because I have no other problems and the phone seems to run better than other people's amaze ill live with it. It's easy to get the vibrator unstuck, just drop the phone on a padded ground from about a foot up (my phone has a tpu case).

there is a modified init.post_boot.sh file that gets pushed to /etc folder that was created for GB but also works for ICS. I guess since I'm just sitting doing nothing I can use google for you and find it.
Edit: worked like a charm as always... let me show you http://bit.ly/O73M15 Google is your friend Idk if it will work if you are not rooted... but if you know adb commands, u may be able to adb push file to /etc folder amd change permissions to rw, r, r.... idk because I'm always rooted

AFAIR, vibrator is in the battery.
Pull it out, drop or shake (battery only), put it back.
You'll break you phone eventually, if you keep dropping it...

Lmao are you joking about the vibration feedback mechanism being in the battery? I hope so, cause if you remove your back plate you can see its exact location.

weak wifi

I've been struggling with weak wifi since I bought my evo near launch. Often the signal would suggest maximum strength, but still fail to provide throughput. I even tried switching to only one band instead of auto (2.5ghz), but this did not work.
I stumbled across this page http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/458225 and decided to give it a try. The basic premise of the post is that the contacts under the back cover don't make a solid connection, interfering with wifi.
I gave it a shot since it was easy. I gently pried the contact up just a bit and replaced the cover.
After one week of trials, my wifi has been solid. For me, this is what the problem seems to have been. It also worked for a close friend who was having the same issue.
If you do the fix, don't pry hard or you'll bend the tab to far. I used a needle and moved it just barely. This is not a placebo effect. According to wifi analyzer my signal has improved a great deal. Regardless, it fixed my problems. Just FYI....
And if this has been posted, sorry. I did search first but did not see a similar post.
Pine
Thanks for sharing I'll definitely give it a try

It has to be professionally soldered back to the motherboard. I had to get that done not too long ago. One broke off and it wouldn't pick up 3G nor 4G.

Only thing i could think of is you didn't solder it good enough and it's not making a connection to the motherboard or your back cover is not making a good contact. When i had one of mine reattached professionally it instantly started picking up lte and ehrpd again like a champ.

Stopped getting service in places I should

I was on CyanogenMod 10.1 and about a month ago I stopped getting service almost everywhere I drop calls all the time and I have no service at my girlfriends I thought it might be cyanogen mod but no one else was having my problem in the thread so I've been living with it until yesterday I got sick of it and finally found the time to ruu back to stock and when I went back to stock I still had no service at my girlfriends when I use to get service on stock and cm10.1 but it did say I had 1 bar and 3g but I still couldn't make calls or even send texts or browse the internet so now I'm back on cm10.1 and I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going on did I drop it a few too many times is there a part I can order that maybe broke in it that I could open and replace any suggestions would be great thanks in advance HTC rezound latest hboot 2.28 and radios I forget what the radios are even tried going back a version of radios and hboot cuz I'm soff but I'm on the latest atm

Have you checked the sim card to ensure there is no dirty contacts on it or that it is inserted completely?
Also, have you tried a different Rezound battery cover? The battery cover acts as your phone's primary antenna. If something is wrong or broken about it, it may not be making the proper contacts with your phone.

Ok guys I have an SGH-I717 which recently loses signal rapidly. I noticed that one of the copper connections were bent inward and not making good contact with the rear cover I pulled it upward and it worked correctly. Ah the problem re appeared and looked at the contact which is cracked now. I thought this was only a nfc contact any clue of what this really is. I am also lookin for a service manual.
