Hi guys,
I've got my DNA last friday. Since then I've rooted, s-off, and so on... Flashed loads of different ROMs and I have a question:
Half the ROMs I've flashed my available storage is inside a folder called "0", in the file manager. Is that folder that shows on my PC. On the other ROMs my file explorer opens in the root of internal storage.
Why does that happen? I'm getting really confused with that especially because I don't know exactly how many storage space is available..
Thanks for your time, and sorry for my english

Its the way 4.2.2 does file management. It puts things into 0 folder to act like a different user I believe. Google 4.2.2 changes would probably be a bigger help than I lol.

Thanks. Never been between 4.0.4 and 4.2 on my previous androids. :good:
Yea, 4.2 adds the 0 folder, but it really isn't visible, it's only an issue when you flash back to 4.1

Yeah everything on viper is under sd, on any Rom with 4.2 its on sd0. I went from viper DNA to carbonrom, then back to viper DNA because on carbonrom even with crpalmer kernel I was getting five hour max battery life even after tweeking and under clocking the cpu. Then when I went back to viper at first had hard time finding the files I down when on carbonrom which is 4.2 to delete so I could free up storage. Finally found out I had to plug Into pc and look under sd0 to delete the stuff from carbon to clear up some space! The guy who decided not to add removable sd to DNA should be fired lol.. stupid mistake they made doing this. But I'm in no way talking trash about carbonrom I love it one of my favorite roms. If the battery life ever gets fixed il switch in a heart beat. I love carbonrom its 4.2 asop runs so smooth and fast , and love the mods you can do to your device in it. So looks like I'm stuck with sense Rom until carbonrom gets more work on battery life. It be fine if I wasn't a heavy phone user and WiFi user.. dam Verizon for getting rid of there unlimited data I didn't know at the time of renewing my contract to get the DNA. I ask sales person over the phone do I get to keep my unlimited data he says yes sir everything stays the same just have two more years on contract. Day DNA comes in was watching YouTube vids get a message from Verizon that I'm about to go over data . So I called and they said no sir we no longer have unlimited when you sign new contract with us. But you can pay 699.00 and get your unlimited data back by paying full price sir. F u lady you guys lied to me when I asked if I get to keep if I renew my contract. Verizon has lost all my respect lol

'They' didn't lie to you. The customer service rep was just misinformed. They have been very straight forward in the fact that the only way to keep unlimited was to pay full price.

so i tried to flash the full rooted ruu rom via hboot, i had it sitting on my table with the batt door off and knocked it on the floor ( accident ofcourse ) and the batt came out halfway during the process so now it goes into the htc screen then blank htc screen then blank and i cant get into cwr so my question is can i salvage it or am i f**ked?
Have you tried hbooting to recovery? Volume up and power down when the phone boots up.
cant keep it in cwr long enough to do anything, keeps rebooting and when it does go into cwr it says something like cant mount cache i think

+1. That's exactly what would have worked. I know it's too late for the lad now, but for future users...
If you're ever stuck in a boot-loop and can't hboot into recovery, you'll need to copy and past the PGIMG05.ZIP file onto the root of your SD Card. This will be about a 200-400 meg file and would usually be a stock rooted RUU or stock signature RUU. After it's on the root of your SD, make sure it's the only PGIMG05.zip file on there! Then start the phone by holding down power + volume up. This will force the phone to hboot the PGIMG05 file which will get you past the boot-loop.
For some it's a good idea to have insurance too.
You can get a replacement minus the deductible if you "lose" your phone.
Just make certain you call VZW as soon as you lose it.
I don't suggest selling the phone for parts and saying it's lost, but I'm sure others have done this to cover their deductible.
Those without insurance...I have heard people have had great success with warranty replacement when using over the phone support when the phone doesn't boot or bootloops.
Since you send the phone back to VZW by mail, their replacement standards are much lower than dealing with their retail and face to face support.

I'm new to this, just rooted my thunderbolt the week before last (have rooted a total of 4 phones though since and created my own bootimage with sound and everything! lol!), and that's what came to mind when I read the original post but I didn't "know" for sure. Thanks for confirming it. This stuff is fascinating to me. I like to understand what is going on. I'd like to someday write my own rom. Perhaps it's a pipe dream but is there someplace you could point me where I could start my education?

Putting the stock Rom on took the root off of it but didn't fix my boot loop. So I returned it and got a free thunderbolt.

Your the reason Verizon hates rooters you are wasting there money on a device that is out of warranty because you would rather send it back than fix it yourself.

My bluetooth is gone.... I have a freshly rooted Amaze. Stock ROM. The only thing I have done is rooted it, and deleted all the bloatware apps. How do I get my bluetooth back???
All it does when I try to turn it on is say "Turning on..." then goes back to "Off" ....
I updating my manager's phone at work and I was going to send her apps through bluetooth because I didn't feel like taking the back plate off her phone and then taking off the battery to put in my MicroSD card..... (whatever I'm lazy) .... so her bluetooth turned on.... mine didn't....
I did a restart, turned the phone off, even did a battery pull.... nothing....
Do I really have to do a factory reset....? You guys know I hate factory resets!

I replied in the other thread asking about backing up. Disregard it, if you really like stock rom then maybe load a stock rooted rom. Though as soon as I get an amaze I will be loading the nrg rom personally. Backup first using titanium, don't forget to export your contacts to SD card! My GF had to type in 249 contacts all over again on her evo 3d when I loaded a rom for her and forgot to export the contacts.

Before you go debloating your ROM, you may want to check up on odexed vs deodexed. I'm pretty sure the syock ROM is odexed, vs the ROM is posted which is deodexed. Basically, odexed, some apps are tied into the system and spread out or something, vs deodexed where all of the app's content is stored in the apk file and can be removed without causing any issues. There should be a thread somewhere

I actually fixed it.... this is what I did....
"Rom Manager downloaded the ROM to phone storage.... so the directory was pretty much something like this:
Phone Storage > clockworkrecoverymod > a whole bunch of folders > a whole bunch MORE folders > 123 > 1234 > Amaze_Quick_Sense_V.X.X.X.zip
so I moved the file (by using Astro File Manager) to
ext_sd > update.zip"
its in quotes because I wrote this in a message.... I just didn't feel like retyping it all...
Cool, glad to hear that.
Now you know more then you did before. All in the learning process, I pretty much did the exact same thing when I started out. Glad you got it all sorted and all.

Silly question but what's the need to root this phone, is great as it is.
Don't get me wrong, all my past phones were rooted OG Evo, Evo 3d, Evo LTE and now DNA is stock , but rooting seems unnecessary really.
If it's not broken why fix it.
Not fixing but enhancing. The phone is great as is... Adding in a few tweaks can only make it better plus the option to have the latest without waiting on slow big red... That's why I can't wait to root this bad boy.

Being able to flash custom edits (no more wireless charging pop up!), user a custom recovery where I can make full nandroid backups, and titanium backup of all my apps are the big ones for me. Also custom splash screen (that default HTC screen lights up my whole house) as well as boot / down animations is something love. I was making custom boot animations and hacking my old moto razr era flip phone back in the day.
Oh, and we'll probably get a ported sense 5 way before it comes from Verizon.

I can't wait to get rid of the bloatware and get my inverted apps back.
I don't need ROOT I need the bootloader unlocked so I can flash custom recoveries which leads to custom ROMs.
Example:
So when HTC says oh sorry we can't upgrade you to Sense 5 because you don't have an IR blaster I say thats ok because Newtoroot already has a Sense 5 ROM that I've been using LONG before HTC decided they weren't going to upgrade me.
With a good ROM you ALMOST don't need root.

Yea, I know, and I am very thankful of that. However, in most cases (if we get an official CM ROM) we can get updates much much sooner than you can with stock. Who knows how long HTC/Verizon will make us wait for 4.2.

I guess you have unlimited, because it doesn't cost anything if you have tiered data.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Why do we need air? lol JK! For me part of the reason is that I love to tinker and strive to make the phone perfect, which theoretically is really impossible thus I always have to tinker! But I enjoy trying out all the cool custom ROMs and kernels to find what suits my needs best. RIght now I'm UV by 100 and UC 10 1.24 and it still runs as smooth as stock (though obviously my qudrant score has dropped from 8200 to 7100). I have unlimited data, so WiFi tether is a huge bonus. And getting rid of all the annoying icons (GPS reticle, etc). And as awesome as HTC's weather clock widget is, the transparent one in the Viper ROM is the most gorgeous widget ever to me.
All that being said, and there are not many, the DNA is an Android phone I would recommend stock to people.
I'm actually surprised its taking this long to get the ROM going on the DNA. Not that I have any idea of the amount of work that must go into doing something like this, but these guys that are much smarter than me usually have these things out very quickly. In the past it always seems like there is that group of developers that are trying to be the fist to crack/hack/unlock anything that comes out.
There are plenty of ROMs for the DNA man...check the android development section for the DNA...

i know on my phone that most of my "other" was roms and backups on my sdcard
I don't know about you, but my phone have about 25 GB free when I first bought it. Was so happy about that since all the software only took like 7 GB-ish. Considering how heavy sense is so incorporated. As for apps and picture managements, I have pod cast downloading everyday, 5 GB of random music from my library, just filmed my sister's graduation + a recent trip. As well as a bunch of other downloaded items from work. Still have 10 GB free. Lot's of space! I suggest using the cloud more often if you are very heavy handed on taking so much pictures / video. However, recently I flashed custom Roms so now I have even more space.
I suggest trying out CleanrRom 2.0 instead of staying on stock. The developer was kind enough to give us extra features, as well as freeing up more space. I hope it helps!

II'm quite interested but I jacked up something along the way because I completely wiped my entire phone, it won't go past the HTC screen. Been messing with it for 4 hours, I'd love to get this on my phone but I'm at a loss. I'm trying to flash the release keys you posting in RUU and radio images and all that but I think I screwed my phone.
If you can get into recovery then you can sideload the rom. Ive done this with included recovery 2.6.3.3,I never posted the radio, just a twrp backup, but you have to get a rom on the phone to copy the backup into the twrp, backups folder.
Copy the rom to where your adb and fastboot are located connect phone via twrp run this command
adb push nameofrom.zip /sdcard/. exactly as shown here change nameofrom.zip to the name of the rom your trying to flash...this will put a rom on your internal storage and it then can be flashed via twrp

Just the kind of ROM I was looking for. I take it that there's some serious integration with particular AT&T parts of the ROM to make VVM work. I attempted to change the sku id to the international variant (to get rid of the browser bar from settings, get the intl signal icons, and have the ability to toggle between LTE/HSPA+), but messages kept crashing.
Anyways, thanks for the hard work. Runs smooth, and works as advertised

Is there any way you could make the Messages app with integrated VVM available to people running other roms? I bet there would be a lot of interest in that...

Most of the messaging apps are the same. With all the required files, you only need to change your CID to CWS__001 to get it to integrate into the messages.apk. Even on sprint, Developer, etc, if you change the CID, you will see a black box in the messaging app where the VVM usually resides. I had it working on Viper for a while, but an update messed it up & since I use G Voice, I really haven't had the need. I think it may heve been fixed in Viper though, since I seem to recall one of the recent updates mentioning it now working.
