[Q] CM 10.1.1 - how to update PRL? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So I took a stab at CM 10.1.1 stable that came out yesterday. Gotta admit that it's smooth and I like it a lot, the only issue currently hitting me is crappy bars on reception (where normally on stock from AT&T I had full bars). I am going to guess here that maybe it's the PRL, and I need to update it somehow. What's the best way to go about it? So far I've seen suggestions that range all over the place and include having a TW rom to do it through. Is there any way to do it from inside my running CM 10.1.1?

not sure about it but i do the same and my phone become useless (no signal) since yesterday so need back to ODIN and stock ICS or GB and hope can save them if not ........................

What's the baseband version?

I guess this isn't really a CM question but ANY custom rom question - how to update PRL when non-stock?

I don't think there is a way to update prl, because at&t does it automatically. Things like *228 are for Verizon or Sprint.

Any full Bell stock official ics please ???

Hello, for some reason after i upgraded to official bell ICS for my galaxy note .. and then back to gingerbread for troubleshooting .. now it does not tell me that i could upgrade to ICS .. is there anything i could do ??? or is there anywhere an odin file for official Bell ICS ?
Thanks in advance for any help ...

Thanks for the reply .. and nope it does not work .. that is the strange part as it says i dont have upgrade for this device .. here is the whole story
I had my Galaxy note (Bell) rooted and CWM with Gingerbread ..
I received a morning the message that it was having the upgrade for ICS ... I tried and it failed saying invalid argument E: ...
I tried twice and it failed .. I tried then with Kies, the first time it failed and the second time it worked !
I was all excited to have ICS but then .... The problems with my signal began.
I had intermittent signal, meaning that sometimes the signal was going dead and anybody trying to call me or if i would try to browse the web or anything it would say that it cannot do it for the moment or network was not there.
I had to reboot my phone every time to have it back.
Decided then to try to flash back Gingerbread Bell stock in hope to be able to flash back ICS clean and maybe solve that problem
That was my mistake i guess as now it is on Gingerbread clean but no mention of ICS available to me now ..
In Kies it tells me that there is no update for that device
Current Firmware version PDA:LA2/ PHONE:LF4/ CSC:LA2 (BMC)
I dont know if i could force the upgrade somehow for ICS or if there is anything i could do ?
Otherwise if you know any link to download the stock ICS for Bell Galaxy note that would be really appreciated
Thanks,
Zykio
ANd ... MaelXca .. if it works for yours with ICS and it is a Bell Galaxy note ...AND if someone save a Bell Stock ICS of your galaxy phone and provide a link .. i could use Odin or CWM worst case to flash to ICS and sure would help a ton of people
Thanks
zykio
Could it be as well because Kies thinks i am already on ICS when im on GB ? does it reflect in that ? Current Firmware version PDA:LA2/ PHONE:LF4/ CSC:LA2 (BMC)
Flash this ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766933
Stock ICS and works very well.
THanks for your link .. some interesting points in there as rooted and such .. for ICS but my biggest concern would be the fact that it is not a Bell version .(unless i am wrong)
as one guy in there said
Thanks so much, been waiting for this all day....downloading now.
Download went great, super fast...battery charging (I never install a Rom with less than 70% battery)
1.Wiped Cache, dalvik, formated/wipe, mounted and wiped system, cache, data and installed this Rom
2.It took just about 3 minutes from the moment I hit Reboot in CWM and the ATT Ready2go appeared ....
I was able today to re upgrade to ICS after i found the pit, pda, phone, csc etc file for gingerbread, signed in google and samsung account and then kies at last gave me back the option to upgrade ..
So now im back to ICS but it seems (still a bit early to confirm at 100%) that if i left the signal to auto with LTE,. it ends up by having the signal blocking or some people say that i was not reachable when my phone had to be rebooted to work again (to receive calls ...) without LTE, just one notch below in Auto setting, it seems to keep working good.
I dont know if it is that i have to upgrade the modem in .. or such and if it is the case because of a known issue or not .. where could i find such a Bell modem file that i could flash and would make it better ?
I am having the same exact issue. The only difference is that i went back to stock Gingerbread rom because i need to bring my phone to a service center as it reebots often.
Ive done the following :
Go back to GB stock via CWM backup
Restored Bell stock recovery through a link found on this forum
Tried updating with Kies but now says no update
Tried updating with Kies in Download Mode and it says no download available for my phone
I do have a CWM backup of the Bell ICS Rooted. Is there a way to unroot it perfectly without samsung knowing about it?
Thanks guys
you know what .. try with that .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657279
There are about 4 or 5 files .. one for each field in ODIN .. like PIT .. Bootloader .. PDA ... PHONE .. CSC .. etc ..
If you do it properly you will be clean GB and then log in your phone .. sign in to google account and samsung account and then go in Kies again .. that way i got the invite to upgrade to ICS again
Hope this will help you

For the ICS Rooted .. is it a stock ICS for Bell AND rooted ? i mean like the last update we got and Bell Rooted ? if so and no customer rom i would love to have that .. do you know if LTE was working without freezing (going no signal until you reboot) ?
Thanks in advance .. since i will have to root mine as well soon enough so it could help for my problem maybe and the root needed after.

Fair enough .. i will try first the new modem .. UCLF6 or something like that to see how it goes and then if it is working good the only thing i would have to find is how to root that G note having ICS and how to install CWM ..
For the guide, you mean the how to do a backup of the ICS rooted ?

If you are on bell, i do not recommend UCLF6 i had some issue with it. Also , there is a reason bell has a specific modem for the note. I recommend flashing the bell modem as i told you on the other thread.
Also i am installing linux on a Virtual machine and will soon start zip aligning, deodexing and tweaking a bit my bell rom and make it available to all you guys

The modems on theses things can be a tricky proposition. I am on Bell Mobility in the GTA and was having issues on stock with LTE completely dropping phone and data capabilities when moving between LTE and non LTE regions (same problem on GB and ICS stock).
I've been running various flapjaxx ATT&T based roms over the last few days and these issues have disappeared on the UCLF6 modem travelling within the same areas. I get LTE speeds in regions that have it and the LTE indicator works flawlessly.
As always...Your mileage may vary....We are fortunate to have so many different modems to try!
Thanks it seems for now im stuck with UCLF6 but reading you it gives me hope

I use a Bell Note in the Gta and had to disable LTE as well (due to dropping all connevtivity until reboot).
I had the issue on flapjaxxx rom, onlyone, and teamperfection too. Tried the last two modems (ie ucle5, uclf6) and the issue was present on all of them.
On those modems i had to use a dialer code to be able to disable lte.
On the stock bell mugla (excuse if spelled wrong) disabling lte is an easy option under mobile networks in settings

That sucks cause LTE is smoking fast when you have it...
I notice you are in Ajax. When I was having the issue, I noticed that it would occur when moving between LTE and non LTE areas. Hopefully as LTE coverage expands there will be fewer "transition" areas and thus fewer problems.
That is, if my hypothesis is correct..
Just got off the phone with a level 2 tech at bell.he is saying that the issue is in the towers and that they are testing new updates daily for the lte/wcdma failover issue

[Q] Quick Questions: Note Update on T-Mobile

So my aunt has am AT&T Galaxy Note on T-Mobile and I told the store she purchased the phone from to flash the T-Mobile radios so that she can get 4G HSPA+ but the device is stuck on gingerbread and I would really like to update it to stock Jellybean with Touchwiz? If I use Odin to flash the latest update will she lose her unlock? But then will it need to be unlocked now that T-Mobile has 4G LTE in Las Vegas? I figured all she would need to do is buy a new T-Mobile 4G LTE compatible SIM and then use that but I'm not sure. Can the new firmware be rooted and can it be unlocked if need be? Also, she broke the mirco-usb port so is there any way that I can flash to stock without the use of that port? I'm really sorry for all the questions but if anyone could answer them I would be very grateful.
If the usb port is broken, you won't be able to use Odin. Is the device rooted? If it is there is hope! If not, you're up the river without a paddle.

I know right but luckily the device is rooted and because the shop said they flashed the T-Mobile radios, I believe it has a custom recovery on it.
Whew! I'm glad to hear you're already rooted. You can forget about Odin now. Flashing roms ands modems thru recovery won't lose your unlocked SIM info. First thing I would do is update your recovery. Then you can flash a new JB rom. A lot of newer roms depend on TWRP recovery. You can find that here in the original android development section. Read carefully and follow the install via .zip way. Since you're on tmobile I'd read the post just before this one about JB and what modems are working best. I'm on at&t so I can't help you there. They also remark on what roms they are running. You can follow their lead, or check out all three available roms in the development selection. Again read the developers directions, and make sure the rom is for your device before you flash anything. Then enjoy!
I didn't see any mention of having installed a custom recovery. If the OP hasn't done that he can still update to the latest stock rom using Kies Air. He can get that from the app store.
Being rooted has nothing to do with any of this. Rom flashing only depends on having 1) a pc with Odin and a working usb port, or 2)having a custom recovery already installed.
Flashing a custom rom won't affect the radio you already have, but if you update to the JB stock rom it will flash the current baseband (modem).
Unlocking is permanent. No flashing can change that phone back to a locked state.
Yes, you need a 4G LTE sim card, but under even best conditions you will mostly see 4G only (HSPA+ ).
I might be wrong, but to use T-Mobile's LTE you have to use a stock AT&T Rom. I'm in Houston and we just got LTE here.

Not an ATT rom.... but an ATT MODEM.
That and setting the fast.t-mobile.com APN will give access to T-Mobile LTE.

For real? So I can use a different Rom? Does it still have to be like a 4.0.4 version or can I use something more current?

You can use your choice of stock or custom roms with LTE.
UCLF6, UCMB4, UCMD3 can all be used under ICS, JB custom roms. 4.0.4, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 or the likes. Cyanogenmod, paranoid, slim, padawan, it doesn't matter.
On anything but stock samsung you can *#*#4636#*#* into dialer then phone options to change between lte and wcdma or all. Also available under settings/mobile network/preference.
Those are the 3 most current modems with access to LTE. UCLF6 being from the official ICS last year.

I've been an android since tmobile.
That and being Computer/SmartPhone Technical Support....I constantly try to be in "the know".
Shoot I fix cars now and never changed my oil before 2 years ago.
I tried to update my I717 (AT&T) and have nothing but access to restore or download mode...it errored out, then I didn't do the emergency backup right away. When I tried to do it later, I get about 96% of the way done, and it errors out....

I don't think there is a dependence on which recovery you use but more of a recommendation. I've flashed many ROMs with CWM that the developer recommended using TWRP and they worked just fine. So, long as you do the procedure right, it doesn't matter what recovery you use.

Was gonna post the same thing but for a different reason. I've inadvertenly dialed 911 three times due to accidently hitting the power button then pulling my phone out of my pocket. Got it hung up once before it got through, but have gotten two callbacks from a 911 operator. Not good. Running snowjb v1.1. Curious if I could just flash a zip file or something of that nature.

what's slick based off of, 4.1 or 4.2?
Also, I've seen on some rom threads about having to be on jb 4.1.2 ota before flashing. Does that mean I have to be running the 4.1.2 stock rom on my phone before I flash, or does it have to be the actual ota update from AT&T and not the flashable stock rom?
sorry to derail the thread but since I don't have enough posts I can't ask in the developers section.

It has to be the actual OTA from AT&T, or alternatively, you can flash TeenyBins (found in the Dev section) in LGNPST. This is by far the easiest way.
so there is no way to remove that apps with the stock 4.1.2?
You can install a different dialer.
Just do the crap you gotta do to flash a rom man.

[Q] Quick Jellybeans 18 addon question

Hey everyone,
Currently on Jellybeans - Build 18 ROM for my VZW Note 2. everything's working great so far, but was re-reading over the thread for it & noticed the addon section that has the VRAMC3 Modem. my current install seems to be working fine on both 3g & 4g (going on 1 week now with no crashes/downloads interrupted).
Do i need to flash this modem addon, or is this a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" situation?

The conventional wisdom is that you want the latest software to match the latest modem, but if everything is working fine there probably isn't a rush to do it (maybe flash VRAMC3 whenever build 19 comes out and you decide to update).

Not sure, but i think v18 is up to date on the modem (or at least when i look under phone details, baseband version is i605VRAMC3).
again, still new to flashing, so probably wrong but i <3 my Note 2.

If the baseband says VRAMC3 you are on the latest and don't need to do anything. You are set.

When you flash the rom the modem isnt touched. Im on beans18 with the original VRALJB modem. You must have already had the newer modem before you flashed. And the addage if it aint broke dont fix can apply here. If your modem plays good with your hardware and rom then let it be. I havent changed mine and probably wont, unless I get bored and want to try and extensively test which is better. That, however, could end up all in vain since ive read in other threads that it seems like peoples experiences are very subjective to their situation- area, nearby towers, hardware and on and on.

Cyanogenmod PRL change

I really want to try cyanogenmod 11 now that I've put it on my dad's Galaxy S3, and it's amazing. Sadly, it appears to remove one vital thing - there doesn't seem to be any way of changing my PRL on cyanogenmod. I need to be able to change it on the go, because we all know that Sprint sucks in places. I just open up the PRL Helper app and change to Verizon or US Cellular. Is there any way at all to do this on cyanogenmod? It's the only thing still stopping me from flashing it. Thanks!
Nope.
Nandroid cyanogen rom and flash a tw rom and then do a prl update. Then restore cyanogen mod.
Maybe Odin flashing
