Is it possible to get say Extreme with 420p recording? I know it would lose some of its RAM... just curious. The thoguht of 8mb vram and gpu OC to 260mhz sounds appealing to me. But I would like to have 420p camera. If not I totally understand. Just curious is all

i m only posting here cause of this: is really safe OC at 2.3ghz? i have a feeling many chips gonna be burned..as Doomlord himself said on Doomkernel thread,its more safe using cpu near to default..and he doesnt recommend using cpu above 1.6..wedgess and cosmic dan same opinions..so i think it would be good for all, a release with a bit more juice on GPU..mostly on ICS we need a boost. on GB with adrenobooster we already have an amazing result on roms and daily use. 1ghz--»2.3 seems..xtreme.

That was Justin's decision - you can always flash Extreme version and use 1.6GHz frequency . If you want my opinion about this, check DiXperia thread where I post my few words of using right frequency with right profile etc.
For example, my XPlay could reach 1.9GHz max, sometimes 2.0, but never more. Some devices, like Justin's Play, working on 2.3GHz better than 2.1, cause of voltages for each frequency .
i totally agree with you..but cutting a bit more frequencies it would not be bad at all..i ve said that on other thread, as i has a xtreme OC on desktop pc..i always be carefull, cause some chips yeh..they handle it..in same cpu/gpu series,same can do it nicely (always short time using) others cant..on long term result they might cause some graphics glithces,cpu faulty and so on..but it always depend on users choice to OC or not,cause a phone doesnt have a refrigeration system as pc can have to reduce temperatures and avoid burning chip.
More than the CPU, the GPU overclock seems really unsafe: doom has tried it still 2 years ago into one version of his kernel (I don't remember which release) and it only gives problem (if I remember correct one guy hasd his play death after some test), maybe is better to ask to doom some more information (he is busy with other devices but I think that he would reply with some more details)

I agree with the GPU overclock thing and it was v13 he had it ,then he removed it and made v14, So @extremetempz i think you should PM DoomLord and ask!

and ask him wich clock he used..250 i think it would not be harmful..but Doomlord can say better at wich clocks did he use both GPU/CPU.
i remember to read that one guy also burned his play with 2.0ghz..cant remember wich version of Doomlord kernel,.heated so much that board died.:crying: of course always users choice and fault..cant have a fiat punto racing like a ferrari.

Sounds like it may be hardware accelerated. Hopefully it is because my nook with an a8 CPU at 1.2ghz has issues playing 480p flash videos without hardware acceleration. Would imagine my optimus overclocked at 806mhz would have issues with 360p flash videos without hardware acceleration.
Good news but how will we get 800mhz on O1???It should be possible bcoz if not how Sam Ace & Gio are running on that speed!!!

You probably will not. 768MHz is completely stable here though, anything above that => not good.

Well, sometime you can get 800MHz. But overclocking is strange device dependent. So, somebody have 768 very stable you, but somebody can have 800 and somebody have some problems also on 710 like me for example.
I believe the ARM1176 processor is designed to 800 MHz for my LG Optimus V.
Not sure that everyone else is running the same processor, but I think there are two speeds for the ARM v.6, all flavors, which is 800 MHz and 1GHz. The cell manufacturers lower the speed to conserve power and I'm certain buy the less expensive 800 MHz version.
So everyones CPU should be 800 MHz capable...that does not mean that the memory I/O can take a similar speed up - I don't know exactly what is being sped up with the CPU overclock, but the CPU itself shouldn't have any issues. If it is the system clock, then the I/O is already being timed appropriately and a speed up is overclock for it, but 800 MHz is not an overclock for the CPU.

it is possible but for most peoples ROM anything past 787 will give a kernel error and reboot the phone the only ROMi got it to work on was Megatron ROM

On Spica Max Neocore output was 7 fps and on o1 its 63 fps currently.
Even than I could play games like ninjump and mx moto.
So what difference would be there in performance even if we can clock till 768-787 and not 806.
Will the flash not run because our clock speed is 787 and not 800?
I hope people are getting what I am asking. When our o1 can handle things like Neocore 63 fps, 1gb ext partition, multi format video playback, then why would it be difficult to run flash on 787 instead of 800 even when flash would be optimized for our kind of processors?

More or less flash should work on or device even at 600mhz, the real issue is to optimize it for our chip set instructions.

I hope so i wonder if our Froyo(O1lg) kernel source varies greatly with Ace's kernel code ...SoC chipset is the same msm7227 for other devices code wud vary but the vga and other arm(assembly) code must be the same..If any kernel developers cud please look into it

Exactly. And even if there was a way to run flash on O1, I wouldn't bother with it myself. It would only slow down the phone and kill the battery life in two seconds.. I really, really don't understand what the big deal about this is. Low-budget phone, no flash. End of discussion lol.
Hi im thinking of doing a overclock to 1.5 ghz is it safe for the processor and the battery life witch already sucks. has anyone on here whos done it using setcpu and the rom had any problems after doing so ? and how much faster is 1.5 ghz compared to 1.2 ghz on the galaxy s2 ? and is it safe in general for the hardware of the phone will the phone get hotter or have over heating problems ? also what should my settings be for minimum maximum and the voltages ?
Of course oc is going to make ur battery life a lot worse.

I haven' used Setcpu in a while but I believe it's got a feature to stress test the settings to see if it can handle it. Generally the worst that happens is it'll crash. So long as it doesn't get hot. Heat=death for electronics :')
I'm using tegrak (from market) to overclock to 1.4. I found 1.5 was too unstable. Noticeable difference between 1.2 & 1.4 is almost none. Also voltage increase of 50mv was needed to gain stability. There is not much point of overclocking the device IMO unless like me u just get some satisfaction out of knowing its running faster!

This is true. I see no difference between 1.2 & 1.5ghz. But that doesn't keep me from running it at 1.5 when I'm playing a game anyway :'D

Well it's not safe, that I can say. Nothing is safe when you don't know what other things are changing with the clock rate. But still you could do that. You just have to make sure that the temperature is within limit, it will be definitely high, but make sure it's not that high.
And upping the clock rate to 1.5 GHz won't drain any extra battery than 1.2 GHz.

I tried the overclocking and each phone is different, increase then test, there are many benchmarking apps out there, I was stable at 1.4, my kernel does not include 1.5 GHz, and irregardless of what people may say, running the phone at higher clock speeds consistently DOES drain the battery more than 1.2GHz, unless you have found a way to manipulate the laws of physics. I don't see how one can fathom the thought that you can get a faster CPU at absolutely no cost.
Many people think when the CPU running faster means you complete tasks faster, hence 1.5 would complete a task faster than 1.2 and hence save battery, but I believe we use this phone as more than a calculator, so when you are performing a task that causes the CPU to run at 1.5 for a period of time e.g playing a game, browsing or whatever you do with your phone, then the CPU has to draw more power to keep the frequency at 1.5 as compared to the CPU running at 1.2
All in all, I dialed back because I was doing fine without it and I did not need it, other people may need it, and I wasn't gaining anything. to answer your question directly, it all depends on what you do with your phone, I'm not a huge gamer or anything and the 1.2GHz has proven to be more than enough for me to have a very pleasant experience using this device
Using it occasionally is safe, unless you stress your mobile at 1.5+ ghz for more than an hour or so.
The cpu governor will only make use of higher frequencies when there is a need, so mostly you will see your mobile idling at 200 mhz.

Not necessarily a lot worse. It depends on how you are using your phone, and what is causing it to run fast. If overclocking allows the phone to spend longer in deep sleep state, your battery will win. If its games, and by OC you achieve a higher frame rate, then the phone is doing more work, and this will be reflected in the battery life going down.
Most of the time, screen on is going to dominate. If you are a low screen-on user, I guess there is more chance for a higher max_cpu to be beneficial (it won't be used unless there is a task that requires it). More accurately, it helps some of the time, so the net result is not always obvious to predict.
How about undervolting?
Any danger in doing so- other than crashing when voltage is too low?
Before over clocking it might be worth downloading cpuspy from the market and seeing what time you spend in each speed.
Chances are most of the time you won't even hit 1.2 so might not have anything to gain by over clocking.
Then again I dont know how you use your device but I do know I was surprised when I found out.

I've played with the SuperSonic version of this phone (which has a 1.5Ghz core) and the results from photos/video are much better, I'm pretty sure the cameras are exactly the same but the SuperSonic benefits from the higher CPU.
I think it would be cool if somebody could write an app that states
IF user opens Camera application voltage + clock speed is increased to allow stable 1.5GHz speed
WHEN user closes camera application overclock turns off.

Btw In normal use your phone keep in 200mhz not 1.2.

oc dosnt make sense ,there no noticeable diff,an yes very few times i hit 1.2 mostly its on 800 or few times on 1000....using a device with 1.5ghz proccesor an oc a device to 1.5 ghz which has 1ghz processor is very diff in nature....

Well I wouldn't mind an app that mazes out at 1.2GHz with camera app open, as it can lag when shooting HD.
oc upto 1.4 ghz is fair enough, anything more than that is a waste. though you cant find any visible difference between 1,1.2 and 1.4 it does helps in maintaining smoothness on some situations.

Is there a way to overclock the Adreno 220 GPU that I consider to be laying dormant as of now inside the HTC EVO 3D and Sensation? I read some of post the the Desire HD section that mentioned they were jealous that the sensation already got a GPU overclock but they didn't provide a link and my searches have come up with nothing. If I could, I would post a link, but I didn't find anything. If anyone could provide a hit of clarity or insight into this topic, please do.

Dear god I wouldn't do that. The adreno 220 is a very good gpu. I think it's the fastest one commercially available.
Plus I've had a bad history with gpu overclocking. I tried overclocking my ATI 4820 and it just ended up not working at all

From every ROM I've ever seen they never say the GPU has been overclocked. That requires Kernel modified.
Everything I've seen states "GPU Tweaks" which I believe only means they've tweaked the amount of memory allocated or the MPAA settings. Which is just a simple prop edit.

roms cant overclock the GPU - it is overclocked in the kernel - most roms use stock kernel.
im working on a kernel now to OC the GPU to qualcomm spec. (so its not really being overclocked - but it is abt 40mhz faster than HTC spec)

qualcomm spec was 320MHz max (for HW001 and HW002)

I am looking to buy a new phone,i don't like iphones,my current one is a Vibrant,so i am thinking about the Galaxys 2 from T mobile.
But since it use a 1.5 qualcoom cpu and andreno 220 GPU i don't know,since i don't know that GPU well,i don't know if it is weak or not,i love the Vibrant GPU it was quite ahead of anything until the Tegra 2 arrived.

The Adreno 220 is underclocked to save on battery and heat.
The Adreno 220 is anywhere from ~5-50% faster than the Tegra 2 dependent on the benchmark/utility/application
The Adreno 220 (even underclocked) will perform so well that any mobile game out today will run without any perceived negative performance that is humanly detectible.
The Adreno 220 performs so well that the above will still be true for any mobile game that comes out between now and the time you get your next device
With the above facts true, there is effectively zero reason to currently want or need to overclock the GPU. What reason did you have to want to? Just to say you did? I have see some performance test and at least vs the Mali 400 which the other galaxy have is actually the slowest,i actually have read some reviews that say the T mobile one is the weakest performance wise thanks to the Adreno 220,but saw some text in which the Adreno was faster than the Tegra 2.
Since i am looking to buy a T mobile galaxy S i am trying to get the most research to see if i get it or not.
is there any option to raise SGS3 CPU to 2000mhz or something like that?

He wasn't referring to getting more RAM though was he? It read to me that he wanted to see if was possible to increase the clock speed of the RAM along with the CPU.

Already there OC/UV running 1500Mhz right now. Max 1800Mhz.
Look into de developers topics for the kernel..
Ive looked there.. stiil misunderstand something-
there is any OC of 2000mhz now?
Note that the Exynos 4Core CPU is still not very well understood and may well get long-time damage when ramping up the clock speed aggressively.
Is there actually ANY need for going so high except to show off?
You'll be measuring any speed improvement in loading things up in microseconds because people say Samsung still hasn't fully optimised the phone to the OS yet, so I think it's a bit pointless stressing the phone that much.
1.8GHZ is currently the max however with kmemhelper you should be able to change the last frequency to 2.0...
Hell I'll even find out the script for you if you are mad enough to try it first

I doubt you'll get it 2GHz stable anyway. From what I've heard most people have theirs crap out at 1.8GHz.
kk so i guess the highest and most stablest cpu might be till 1800mhz
1and what about ram? there is any overclocking for ram memory? (couldnt find anything about it)
2what about GPU?
to make it clear:
i wanna know which ram overclocking is available to do on the SGS3 as long as the device still stables.
same with GPU and all those stuff.. there is a really good lvl of OC like in S1 S2?

I would go for Siyah kernel and try 1.8 GHz then under volt using voltage control or extweaks app. Most phones can go 100 mv on all steps except maybe the very highest clocks.

OC of the ram is connected to bus speed and this is very different to the fixed bus in the sgs1 so nothing like live oc is possible. Still 400 mhz bus speed is 4 times faster than the CHAt!

I`am running RGUI v7 rom and siyah kernel 1.3.8a. My clockspeed is 1600 Mhz and is rockstable, snappy and battery life is great.
I don`t go any higher for daily use, it doesn`t make much difference in speed and i think it cuts down your cpu-life.
ho so no LIVE OC is available now? (like in S1 and s2)?
well hoping it will be possible to add those functions(live oc, ram, cpu, and more..) in Android JB 4.1
My Captivate (SGS1) can hit 1.92GHz... So I think that a CPU with a stock clock of 1.4GHz can hit 2GHz easily. We will just have to see. I am not pushing this phone though. I don't have $700 to replace it.

That's not depended on the ROM but on whether the hardware allows to modify the values and if kernel developers figure out how to do it.

I'm pretty new to this forum and since the time i joined I was addicted to tamper with my phone to tune it up to my likings. Now that im done rooting,unlocking and flashing I got my phone running at 1.6ghz on stock gingerbread 2.3.4 (I tried ICS but i liked GB better).
Now my question is: How safe am I when I leave my cpu speed at 1.6ghz for daily use? It gets a bit warmer than stock when playing games, but I don't know the max safe temp and I don't know how i can check the temps using software. I can only check the battery temp. I assume this can't be related to the cpu temp?
For information: It boots up just below 30°C (86°F) and I have never seen it go over 40°C (104°F) when using heavy apps.
I don't have a clue weather i'm pretty safe or if i'm starting to dig a grave for my neo V. Can someone assist me further?

its not safe to regularly overclock... the best way to monitor as you say is when the processor is in use... it becomes hot and because you OC - it becomes more hot...
use it like this if you want to cause some injury to your phone or someone or yourself

I know with overclocking is always a risk involved. But are u saying that 1.6ghz is way out of bound to be pretty safe for daily use? I also know that it's best to monitor when the cpu is fully utilised. But the thing is I don't know how to monitor the exact temps of my cpu and don't know how hot it is allowed to get without taking any damage.
Look, Xperia Arc S has exactly the same CPU like Xperia Neo (V) but is running @ 1,4 Ghz. In other words it's an oc by Sony!!
1,6 Ghz. Test it a while and report back.
I'm running my Neo V @ 1,4 Ghz when gaming and 0,8 Ghz for normal apps to save battery.

ps: on youtube u ll find videos running the neo v @ 1,9 Ghz working properly.

Increasing a frequency of a processor based on it's hardware specs sheet by ARM whether it would be done by a user or the device manufacturer is still like digging a grave for you're device. It's just a matter of whether you're digging the grave with a shovel or with a teaspoon.
Overclocking above 25-30% of the stock clock speed will significantly reduce the processor's life...the safest value is 1200-1300mghz...and the fact that Xperia arcS shares exactly the same processor is not true...it is overclocked by OEM...they do this in a different way so as to be on the safer side...you can go up to 1.4ghz...but that too is not safe...and speeds above 1.6 are just for those who treat their device as a use and throw item.

I oppose some of these. There's no other such thing as "it is overclocked by OEM"
1. ARM/Snapdragon doesn't quite give a full open source detail on their architecture to create different ways to mod their hardware.
2. Clocking part is handled by the kernel itself. By overclocking it you just add new and higher values and not actually modify the whole clock routine it does. I don't know the real reason why they clocked Arc S higher than other devices but only reason I could think of is "because it's flagship" I have already looked up the blueprint of our processors and well the default clock is actually 1.4ghz so 1.02ghz is still underclocked for us.

well thanks for that useful info mate...i dont have that much knowledge about cpu architecture...my views are fundamental...and yess...i know about that "t" in arc s cpu spec...thats why said it is different...now wheather it is overclocked by sony or by qualcomm themselves is not clear to me...and also wheather it has the same architecture ...i am just saying overclocking above a certain permissible value is not good.
like you just said...the processor in neoV is just 1000mghz...so it wont do any good if it is pushed beyond the limits.

Yup and all is clear to me now Arc S and other 2011 devices have different types of CPU arch. Wonder how did this "all 2011 devices have the same CPU" gone wild.
I did some searching on this matter, nobody knows for sure weather the CPU of the arc S is exactly the same architecture but factory overclocked or if it's a different architecture and therby safe to use at 1.4ghz unlike the neo v cpu. I would really like to know an answer to this.
The Xperia Arc S is using the same processor as lower clocked devices, but it's a higher binned part. This means that I can reach higher clock speeds while consuming less power compared to a lower binned processors. The same thing happens with PC processors.

After some research, I did find the spec sheet sans MSM8255T (arc S) but can confirm that it is not over clocked. What's surprised me is the official CPU for MSM8255 (neo V) has a range of 1-1.4 GHz & camera upto 12 MP. So, it would be safe to OC upto 1.4 GHz

Still it would be safe to stay @ our capped frequency. It is all synced with other parts on the board. Use it & then remember to slide it down to 1GHz
