[Q] thread to unlock galaxy S - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello: As my name suggests I'm new to all this. My son gave me his galaxy s phone & I'd like to use it on my T-Mobile network. The phone is locked to AT&T.I searched this forum for a member & the instructions I saw on the web for how to do it. the member, dagentooboy posted on aug.21/2010 on how to do it but I've been unable to locate him or the post. The file I need is "generate unlock windows.zip" along with android drivers. If anyone is able to send me the link to that page/file i'd really appreciate it. I'd like to go bigger as i'm using an unlocked palm pixi plus which I like but now that I have a galaxy S.......well there just not the same. Thanks in advance. Mike

Which carrier branded firmware?

Hi people. I tried to find an introduction section but couldn't so I will jump straight to the question.
I live in the UK and purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II via the website buymobilephones.net It is on a 24 month contract with three mobile. I would like to root the phone but upon lookign at this thread I'm stuck on what firmware to use? Here's the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Any ideas what firmware I should be using? Thanks for the help. As said I did try to find somehwere on here to introduce myself as a new member but can't see mto find it. This is my first ever android phone after coming from webos and so far I love it. Hopefully as my skills with android improve in the future I can help contribute to this site and help others, thanks

[Q] Galaxy S2 ATT, which CF-Root?

Good Day!
I just picked up a shiney new Galaxy S II from ATT (from my iPhone 4). I've had various Android tablets, and rooted many droid phones (including the Vibrant I had a week).
However I'm unsure which CF-root to use with this baby, and I don't want to brick it.
Under Settings, About Phone this is what is listed.
Android Version
2.3.4
Baseband
I777UCKH7
Kernel Version
2.6.35.7
My understanding is the CF-Root I need would use KH7, but I haven't found one (at least in the CF-Root thread, but its 200+ pages long!)
Any information would rock my world and save quite a bit of time for me!
Thank you!
Hey there
XDA created a new forum for AT&T SGS2 located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1301 I just did a quick check and see a few rooting threads under development you might want to check out. This forum is for the international galaxy s ii so you most likely won't find the kernel you're looking for to root here since its technically a different model with the soft key buttons and all. I believe Codeworkx created a rooting solution over there
Hope this helps
Thank you, not 5 minutes after I posted this did I find the link to the other forums! rock on xda!
I just got it... can u send me the link?
I have the same problem, do you think you can send me the link to download it?? thanks!

[Q] How to set up "Android Backup Service" on unrooted phones

Hi XDA Developers,
I have an AT&T Galaxy S III I747.
The automatic restore option on my phone is not working. While trying to find why, I came across "Android Backup Service" in the "developers.google" website.
I am not a developer, so I am not able to figure out how to implement the procedure explained in the "developers.google" website.
Can anyone kindly help me with this?
I saw the video about being careful before posting a new thread. I tried to find an answer for long time in various forums, but could not find one. So I am posting this new thread.

[Q] Unlocked S3 Rom question..

Hi all..
This is my first post on here, so please be gentle with me....
I've got a Galaxy S3 and courtesy of my network provider, I've got the phone unlocked.
Am I now able to replace the branded Rom in the phone with a stock rom (ie one downloaded from Samsung's site but with no network bloat), or is that something that people wouldnt recommend..?
Any help gratefully recieved.
Thanks
Questions go in the q&a forum, report your own post and ask a moderator to moved it.
Network unlock is irrelevant to your rom, you could always have flashed whatever firmware you wanted.
I'd suggest you read the guides and sticky thread before do anything.

[Q] Galaxy S2 supersu?

Hello everybody!
As I am well aware this topic might have already been discussed, I also apologize for posting this again.
I am not too experienced with rooting, flashing phones and so on. All I look for is to install supersu on a Galaxy S2 (gt-i9100) so that I can move a few apps in system.
Browsing for a few hours I have found a few one-click methods and also a lot of complicated ones. The thing is I do not need to flash the ROM or change the kernel, I just want supersu to work, that's it!
So far, the link I have found the closest to my requirement is the one on ibitimes link that says it's using the framawork app.
The guy who posted this says that it is taken from this site but I do not seem to find details on it.
I do not necessarily want to use it especially, I just look for a similar method. Please give me some suggestions if you could.
Best regards,
Vlad Nitu
