I've noticed something recently, same on my and my wife's S4s.
In the S4 stock calendar, you can't remove reminders for meetings that others have set. I've always done this in the stock Google calendar, when I had a meeting that I wanted to keep on my calendar but didn't want a reminder for.
I'm assuming this is just a missing feature or defect, but just in case, does anyone have a work-around?
I'm going to download and install the Google calendar and use that to remove reminders, but I'd prefer to do everything in the stock S4 calendar.
Thanks!
Try going into settings- accounts - tap ur gmail acct then uncheck sync calender.... Hope that solves ur problem.

Thanks, but that will just remove the calendar from my phone...not what I want, just want to remove notifications on meetings once in a while.

Oh sorry, my bad. I didn't know that.
The biggest problem with most calendar apps is that they tie to your Google account on the device. Of course, nobody has been able to get Google sign-ins fully working on the NC. I would imagine once they get that figured out, the stock calendar and many 3rd party calendars will work.

Calendar app is sync 'd to my google account - it did it automatically after youtube and gmail were setup. I was looking for a better calendar app. Jorte is free and works great!

How to Sync Calendar
Easy - just go to your Gmail account setup. You will see a box for "Add New Account". Just add your GMail account again - YES, do this. You will then see a screen for syncing stuff - on it will be an option for syncing "Calendar" - check this.
Now you can sync Google Calendar on your PC with that on the Nook Color!
There's also a PC App for syncing your Google Calendar (on PC) with your Outlook Calendar.
I've been using a combination of [paid] "Puregrid Calendar" Widget and [free] "Synker" to keep my Gmail calendar sync'd with the Nook Color. It has a nice full month calendar widget on the home screen that I really like.
I wasn't aware there was any reliable to way to sync the Gmail calendar with the device, so I'll have to give the mentioned method a shot and see if I can maybe get rid of Synker (although I like being able to sync on demand with a device that isn't connected to the Internet 24/7).
SWEET
@Docfreed - thanks - I've been trying to figure this out for days!
Try Smooth Calendar in the Market.
Doc's fix worked. Thanks.
I use Calendar Pad. It has a couple widget sizes and modes... day, week, and month.
Cheers,
Rich

Me too! Thanks.
@Docfreed, Are you re-adding your gmail account in the gmail app? I get a pop-up:"Sync for this item is currently disabled. To change your preference, temporarily turn on background data and automatic sync" when I try and add my account again.
Meanwhile, synker seems to do the trick.

I had the same problem, got synker working as well but would love to not have to use it.
I tried going to gmail and adding account but got the same message as ehrune. Any help would be appreciated.
I am such a dork... can't remember anything anymore. I found another thread with a solution and I also found a semi solution that I actually posted myself. Geesh!
I posted this in December and didn't remember:
"My calendar wasn't working. I went to Calendar - menu - more - my calendar
Then I removed my calendar, added it back and voila! It populated."
A more permanent solution is in this thread:

Does anybody know a way to get the Calendar to sync with a Google Apps account? I tried to re-add the account but the option to sync with Google App still is not working.
weird bar at top of calendar
has anyone seen this weird blank bar at the top of their calendar?
anyone how to remove it? just FYI, i have my calendar syncing with google.
Went to sprint store and they said the best way to do contacts is to get it the way you wanted under gmail.com contacts and then sync it.
I finally got the contacts the way I wanted, but I want to know:
1) How to completely clear out what's on the phone now
2) Sync it with what's up on gmail contacts
How do I do this?
Thanks
Brad

well i just jumped inot the "PEOPLE" program we got and if u click MENU and then "VIEW"....u can select and de-select which contacts u would like on yur device....ex: twitter, phone, ect, ect, ect.....
at least that how i figured out how to managed which contacts u got on yur phone....also, ive used GMAIL on my PC to manage my contacts as well....hope i didnt make this confusing for ya LOL
Go to setting/applications/mange apps
Then find contact storage. The clear data. Then go to settings/account and sync then enable background data then press on your email and then choose sync contacts and you should be good.
Locked & Loaded
" Shooter on Deck"
THANKS!
That worked!
Now one last question.
If memory serves, as people send me emails, they get added to my "contacts" under gmail automatically and thus would get sync'd automatically to my phone. How do I prevent or manage this? I get TONS of SPAM every day (200+ new emails) and don't want everyone coming over to my phone as contacts!

You can select only view contacts with phone numbers in the settings/view of the people app. But I believe if you go into gmail and your computer under settings you can disable automatic contacts add. I use gmail and my contacts only add if I tell it too.
I'm pretty sure it only adds a email address to ur contact list of it matches an existing contact or you add them on google talk or something

updated to Jellybean. *I use the built-in calendar app from Android. *I have my Exchange account added, and email comes through fine. *In the calendar, only SOME of my appointments show up. *I figured out that it is certain categories that don't make it through... Personal, Networking, etc don't work but Business, Vacation, Firm Event, etc do. *It's quite strange.
Any fix here? *I have tried deleting the account and re-adding. No problem when I was on ICS.*
Thanks everyone!

Hi all,
Am running 4.1.1 on a rooted I9300XXDLIH ROM.
I have removed and reinstalled the Google Calendar app as it wasn't working, and still doesn't.
The phone is associated with my Gmail account, but it won't show ANYthing on the calendar. I have checked 'which calendars are displayed' etc but there are no options. Clicking on 'new event', it just hangs on 'loading'...
Any ideas? The Gmail calendar is so useful and I'm missing it!
Is the sync option checked in your google account?

Seems to be an issue on some ROMs. I had same issue.
1. Disable your Google calendar first. Uncheck in sync options
2. Then in all applications cleat data and cache for splanner and splanner widget.
3. Re add Google calendar.
4. Try the calendar now and if it doesn't load events just click sync in calendar setting menu
These steps worked for me

Thanks for the reply.
There isn't a Google Calendar sync option in the list for some reason. There's contacts, Gmail, Reader, books, etc. but no calendar?
Also, there's a SPlanner widget, but no SPlanner? I froze it with RootUninstallerPro, have unfrozen it but it won't come back.
Not only that but Google contacts won't sync for some reason, Fasterfix (improves GPS fixing) won't load, etc. I think I might go back to an earlier version of Android, or perhaps an earlier version of 4.1.1.

Click on your username on the attached picture at the top and it will give you sync options for contacts and calendar.
Sounds like you may need to reinstall. Once you clear caches it works fine

Since I first got the GS4 I hated that the stock TouchWiz email app didn't let you load up your Gmail account with it. I really like being able to have all of my email accounts (including exchange) in one app and therefore I really don't like having to use multiple apps for multiple email accounts. So , today I finally decided to try and get the AOSP email app working on stock TW because I have always really enjoyed that email app. All I did was pull the email and exchange apks from the latest CM nightly, copied them over into system>app using Root Explorer, and changed the permissions (shown below) and what do you know...it worked!
There is one thing you need to make sure you do though: after you do this, restart your phone and then go into Titanium (or whatever) and clear the data from both the email app and the exchange app. They will be all weird and FC if you don't do this first, but after doing that they work like a charm. The only issue I have is that I can't set Gmail up with Push notifications, but it's not a huge deal and much less annoying than having to use multiple apps.
I figured I would let everyone know in case there are others out there like me. I have attacked the two apks to this post and someone is welcome to zip them up into a flashable if they so choose. And of course do this at your own risk, I am not responsible if you manage to screw this up somehow.

I was on stock rooted MDK for a while and I could do the same thing. I'm on Hyperdrive ROM now and did it there too. You just need to select the "others" option when adding a new account, enter your gmail login info, and it adds it like any other IMAP email account.

Yep gmail works fine on stock email app as an imap account, no push though and sometimes it's finicky about updating at the scheduled intervals.

When you say finicky at updating at scheduled intervals, what do you mean? Because my GS4 stops syncing automatically at exactly 8AM and 5PM even with peak settings off. It wont restart auto syncing until I manually sync once after 8AM, and again after 5PM.
