Hi,
I tried asking in the Cyanogenmod thread but no one got around to give me a hand. I'm really having a headache.
I have a XT910 (umts_spyder) with CM 10.1.2 and I can't find a way to make tethering work.
I've tried bluetooth, USB, Wifi tethering and even applications on the play store.
My laptop sees the wifi tethering access point but is either unable to connect or connects but has no internet.
Data connection on my phone works fine.
Please help
Well, I tried installing MIUI ICS on my stock ROM slot and the same problem happens.
Unless the same bug is present in both ROMs, i'm missing something...

Just saw this in another forum...Was experiencing the same issue as you...This worked for me;
1. select Change Device-Profile
2. pick Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
3. apply "Routing Fix"

Thanks, Buddhatown. I've tried what you suggested, but no-go. Can you list the other settings that are enabled in the wifi tether app?
Thanks!

Okay, nevermind, I found it with the Wifi tether app.
However, when I try that, I can't even get the SSID to show up.. I tried both wlan0 and wlan1.
At least when I use the tethering from the settings, I see the SSID.
Any other ideas ?

fooraid, do you mind sharing your full configuration? I have the same problem with my RAZR (running CM 10.1.3). If I use the built-in tethering I see the SSID, PC is able to connect but cannot get Internet connection, or if I use the wifi-tether-app, my PC does not even see the SSID.
I followed all the suggestions on this thread but to no avail.
Thanks.

These instructions should work. Just be sure that for #1, you scroll down to the SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS (4G_LTE). For some reason, I chose the Google NexusOne (I saw the word nexus and thought it was the right one) at the top of the list and didnt realize that was the wrong one. Once I fixed that, everything worked like a charm! Hope this helps.

now is this for being on a ROM or will it work on stock unlocked as well...
Edit: i finally got it to turn on with no errors, will be testing on my PC when i get home
Now when i go to use it with my PC its just like any wifi connection right? I refreshed the available networks on my.PC and it would.not find it at all.. am i missing something
Is it a windows PC that you are trying to attach to it? Does the tether start up with any errors in the log?
You should be able to see it just like any other router in your list of available networks.
Edit: Just noticed you said it started with no errors. Hmm.
It should just show up in your available networks.
Try manually creating a connection to your ssid (forgot the exact steps to do this, but its somewhere in network settings).
Also, try changing the setup method to the other available methods (ad-hoc, netd)

I am running ICS 3.5 from Scotts, I can not get Tethering to work. I have tried everything listed. I have tried several ICS Roms and it hasnt worked on any of them. The only time it worked for me was right after I unlocked and rooted on the oem rom with barnacle. Since then it has not worked at all. Wifi isnt working either in ICS 3.5 for me. It is stuck on "turning on". Easytether (USB) is working like a charm though. However I would really like wireless tether. I am coming over to the rezound because i lost my thunderbolt. I want to make sure this phone will do all that my rooted Tbolt would before my 14 days are up... that phone was .. OMG AWSOME. If I cant get it to match up to my old Tbolt in useability, I will go back to another Tbolt.
I am thinking that tomorrow I may try learning how to deal with mainver issues and stepping down to RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_221502_signed
Seeing if I can get it working on that, make a backup, then go clean back to an ICS build.
Any suggestions?

srivkin's instructions should work. Be sure to follow them to the T. Also, have you tried different versions of the tether app?
I thought that encryption didn't work with the tether app.
I relocked and reverted back to that RUU I mentioned in the above post this morning, after running the mainver fix. I unlocked, reflashed ra recovery, rooted, uninstalled some VZW bloat and the vzw tether blocker. installed wifi tether and it still wouldnt work, installed barnacle and it works...but it is so slow it is useless really. Easytether still works great. I already miss ICS. I will re-port a clean ICS onto it later this afternoon after ive had time to build out this base one and back up an image of it. I will repost with any progress.
BTW, I tried all of the settings you guys have mentioned and it just isnt hitting it for me, not sure whats up with that, but I will know more maybe after I put ICS back on clean and try it out.
** Addition - Installed OpenGarden it is running well on the:

i think i may have found the problem, but not sure. i tried setting up my WIFI on my phone, but when i go to turn it on, i get an "error" that appears right under the wifi check box. anyone know how i can fix this?
Edit: would i be able to do a factory reset to see if it fixes the WIFI issue, i am on stock rooted with amonra, or would i have to do a wipe thru amonra?
ok i finally made the jump to scotts ics rom and everything is working fine... thank you guys for all your information
I have rooted my phone via zedomax and that worked great. I have SU, etc..
I downloaded WiFi tether but can't get it to work. I have tried a Ubuntu machine and my HP Touchpad, neither will connect. The Linux box would show the connection but it showed an icon I am not familiar with, maybe AdHoc not sure.
The touchpad didn't see the connection at all?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
make sure u have ur device set under generic ics in the wifi tether pref
For wifi tether to work:
Set profile to generic ICS (as Tickleme said)
Set MSS Clamping
Set routing fix
That'll get you running.
Mine works just fine without either mss clamping or routing fix. Only thing I had to do was set it to Generic ICS.
If you just changed your SSID or passphrase, make sure you "Reinstall binaries/config" under the options menu or whatever it's called.

Yea just root via the zedomax method and then install wifi tether, setup like mentioned in this thread and your good to go.
took all of 5 mins to root, the phone has to reboot 3 times and your done. Simple, if done with linux even easier... don't have to mess with drivers and all that crap..

Make sure you are using this tether app. Like others have said, make sure you go into settings> Generic ICS for profile.
If that alone doesn't fix it, try checking 'MMS clamping' and 'Routing fix'. Make sure to also 'forget' the access point on your transformer before trying to connect again. This works awesome for me and my Nexus 7.

Can someone please help with WiFi tether. I have a EVO LTE rooted. I have the settings set as generic ics I have mms clapping and routing fix checked. I changed the ssid and the password. I get the computers to connect but with no internet I tryed using the WiFi fix to use the stock hotspot and I got it to work for about 10 min. I also tryed Firefox still no luck please help. from my EVO using xda premium
Make sure your settings are setup like this:
Change Device-Profile: Generic ICS
Change Setup-Method: Netd (master)
none of these things worked
Is your transformer rooted with the ad hoc fix baked in. I believe it's a problem on the tablets side not the LTE.

Hey everyone, I have my rooted/unlocked droid dna here. I disabled "tetheringguard.apk", so I could tether ( or at least thats what i thought would work.) downloaded "wifi tether". didnt work. so i downloaded foxfi. says verizon blocked it and i would have to use PDANet+. That works fine, but i'm not paying for it, so it disconnects after an amount of time and i have to reconnect (obviously troublesome for online video games). Does anyone know a way to get tethering to work for free on the DNA? I thought i looked around enough, and I couldnt find anything. Let me know!

Those tweaks in wifi tether been discussed a lot in gnex and rezound forums .. Access control is a nice thing , you dont need to remember wifi password ) just turn off encryption and add exclusion for er client and it works fine !

How do you have your HAM2 setup for tethering? I use my MT2-L03 for tethering to my laptop all the time with WPA2 PSK security. You mention the 30 update?? Which model are you using? I have B126 firmware.
Also, what browser are you using? If you're using IE, try changing the LAN settings to "Automatically detect settings". I don't have any issues with Chrome or Firefox.

Modern technology...ain't it great?
Sometimes I wish we could go back to tubes (valves)....Life was so much easier trying to figure something out by looking
for a burned out component, or using a meter or O-scope to find a problem. Kind of hard to look or listen for a 1 or a 0
out of place LOL.
Give me an old Simpson 260 and a Tektronics dual trace scope and WATCH OUT! LOL.
