After looking in this forum for a while now it's come to my attention that there are a lot of noobs here looking for answers. I decided to write a how-to here for everyone to keep their root while upgrading through OTA (Over The Air). Now remember this guide will only help you with an upgrade through OTA and you must have root privileges as well. if you flash a ROM then this guide will not help. Remember to follow the instructions as you see them. Most of you read half of it and think oh yeah I know what he's saying and that's how many problems occur. Here we go:
1. Download Voodoo OTA RootKeeper from the Playstore.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Once it's downloaded you will see the image below. Just tap it to open the application.
3. Once the application opens you will be asked to allow superuser privileges, press allow.
4. Once the application opens then you will see information about the application and your root options. There will be a button that reads "Protect root". Press that button to make a protected copy of su.
5. Your root is now protected!
6. Once you have upgraded via OTA (Over The Air) then all you have to do is get back into Voodoo and the button should say something like "Restore root". Press it, then download your desired superuser application and update it. Viola!

hello everyone;
At first, i'm still new to android as well as to SE, so my questions seems to be asked a lot but i couldn't find a healing answer yet :-|
I want to install the Dark10 theme by Chewitt, but you always guys say that i have to gain "super user permissions", although i have rooted x10, but i don't know how to have these permissions "using what is called adb". i tried to perform a normal installation of the theme but when i start it as administrator it gives me the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
also i read somewhere that i need "android terminal emulator" and since i don't have a wireless network right now, so i can't download it to my x10.
so, any solutions?
I've same issue and i want to know about that as well
You installed and ran superuser from the market already?
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
yes i installed superuser from the rooting thread here on this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835004
i read that thread and i tried to do what it said literally but as i posted before, i had that superuser permission issue
Finally, my problem is solved. i was forgetting to allow one step in my "superuser". thx to XperiaX10iUser for helping.
my last wish is: can you provide me with "android terminal emulator" plz, cuz i wanna try more and more themes and mods
The JB OTA downloaded, I deleted it, and it downloaded again. Tried FOTAKILL and that didn't work. I don't want to install update, is there any way to stop the update prompt from popping up?
freeze the FOTA and update services with chefs freezer, dont delete it, you might need them later... there is a list for the safe apps to freeze in android development section.
Are u talking about this:

What if I want to install it? I tried doing it yesterday but this is what it ended up as:
I quickly hard-reebooted it and then I had constant reboots and boot loops.
What should I do? I had flashed the JB "official" leak...
My specs:
Thanks!

Yep, that's the prompt. Freezing FOTA and Updates with Root Tools seems to have worked, now when I go to settings and look for updates it starts to check for updates then stops. We'll see if the prompt shows up in 12hrs, fingers crossed.
.
No problem dude

Oh cool...wondering what happens if we install the update.
I have a rooted and unlocked T Mobile P769. I got the following update message:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I installed OTA RootKeeper as per the instructions below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2371529
Then I went ahead and accepted the update. The phone rebooted, started the install (android icon with spinning blue energy orb) and then half way through changed to a dead android (android on his back with red warning triangle above it)
I restarted and checked the SW version - it is still 20d. When I check for updates it says my phone is up to date.
Does this mean I have blocked OTA updates permanently?
No, it means that you modified the system in a way that the update could not follow. Be sure to uninstall link2sd, busybox, overclock, or anything that modified the build.prop. super user or voodoo ota will not affect the update.
EDIT:
Make sure you restore before you uninstall. The ota will come again but you have to wait for it. Good luck

I've been trying since October 5, the day after picking up my GN3. After flashing CF-AutoRoot the first thing I did was install TB. Upon opening the app I got the usual prompt from Superuser asking for root access. I granted it but instead of getting root I see:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I've heard of others having problems with restored apps from TB but I can't even get that point because I can't open the program.
Is there a solution?

Hello guys, I have been out of the customizing game for awhile and have very recently gotten ahold of a completely stock Verizon S4 that was fully updated to the OF1 software (5.0.1).
I followed these root instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/samsung-s4-i545-verizon-of1-root-t3254434 and that was successful. I installed "Root Checker" just to make sure that root was successful and it told me that it was. I successfully installed BusyBox and then installed the TWRP Manager app. I selected my device from the manager app and it downloaded the TWRP 3.0.2.0 for the jfltevzw, and then it told me that is successfully installed that Recovery.
The phone will boot regularly just fine. However, whenever I try to go into Recovery mode (power button + home button + volume up) I get a "Start Up Failed" splash screen with the yellow triangle and the tiny text in the top left that says, "Secure Fail: Kernel."
I have included the necessary screenshots so that you guys can see all of the necessary phone information. Did I miss a step? Should I try to manually install TWRP via Odin? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

your bootloader is OF1. you can't use TWRP because the bootloader is locked.
There is no way to use it. You must use FlashFire.
To fix your issue you need to Odin this file: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24415232478677245
Thank you for the answer!
