First you should know, I'm a tinkerer. I like to mess with lots of electrical and mechanical stuff for fun. (Like building my own dual batteries, rebuilding cars and making my own mag fed paintball markers and RF box mags).
Looking at the Huawei G300 and the Y300 screens, and wondering if the G300 screen would fit the Y300? Reason being the G300 is IPS whilst the Y300 is only LCD and not good in brighter light.
G300: IPS LCD, 4", 480*800, Connection top left
Y300: LCD, 4", 480*800, Connection top left
There seem to be a lot of similar ROM's for these devices, so I can't imagine it would be too challenging for someone who knew the drivers etc, to get it to work. I have searched but I can't find anyone that has done something like this before.
Am I crazy, or looking at the screens, does anyone think it's doable as a useable device?
Did you ever try this?
Hardware is easy to play around with so long as you have standard measurement's and similar connection points

Hello All,
I was wondering if someone has investigated the possibility to replace the screen of the folio, with a better one ? The screen is the real drawback of the tablet, and I know that there is real magicians around.
Thanks
Excuse me, drawback? Aren't 10 inches good enough for you? I'm pretty much happier with the huge size the Folio's screen is.
He might be referring to the viewing angle witch is not good compared to most of today devices, not to mention the very fragile top glass

Hi, first I want to apologize because I don't know where to post. I thought Accessories section was appropriate.
After searching all over the internet for weeks trying to find some device that attach phone to laptop I could not find anything. Actually I found two, one looked way to bulky and had mixed reviews and the other I liked (Kickstarter project: Sidecar) but these products never gets made for non-Apple products. I was not surprised there.
I could just get a kickstand case or a portable stand but I didn't want to do that since I don't always work on a desk and I also spent my case money on Spigen Slim Armor S-View. Actually, this case is a necessity. The clip was designed to work with this case but I can see how I could modify it to work with other cases.
Anyways, I decided to do-it-myself. After lot's of prototypes, sandblasting, drilling, and superglue, it actually turned out really good. It clips on and off smoothly with no effort but it stays on securely. I can even lift my laptop and travel across the room with it and it stayed on. I was impressed. It also worked as a portrait-mode kickstand in two different angles but landscape mode didn't work so well. But the fact that it doubles as kickstand was a nice little bonus. One thing I don't like was that it covered quite a big chunk of my display since the Note3 is so massive. But to me it works because my screen resolution is 3200x1800 and the convenience of this set-up is just perfect work-environment for me. Especially with Samsung's SideSync software. SideSync lets you control phone with laptop keyboard and mouse, drag and drop, and other stuff. Really cool.
I'm going to post some pictures, let me know what you think.
I just don't get it...:banghead:

Im sorry but what is the point from hanging you phone this way and blocking part of your laptop screen !
Sent from my SM-N900 using Tapatalk 2
Yea, it wouldn't be that bad of an idea if it didn't block half of your screen. Why not make it so it clips outside of the screen instead of in front of it?
Hmm I made a replied to thread but it gave me an error.
Anyways I just wanted to say thanks for replying. I agree the screen covering is a bummer but it actually gives me a more real estate in dual screen set up with SideSync. It boosted my work flow even if it was just to play a movie while doing repetitive work. I can play movie on the laptop as well but that drains my battery from 10 to 3 hours which is not long enough to finish work. But if only it didn't cover up the screen....

My question is, if you're going to take up part of your screen with the phone, while using SideSync, why not just show the phone's screen on the laptop, and then size it a bit smaller, as shown on the SideSync webpage instead of clipping it to the front of the screen? At least that way you could move the visual representation of the phone around if you wanted to.
I tried the phone screen on laptop but it is a little laggy. Not bad but I want smooth experience. Using mouse and keyboard on phone screen has zero lag.
nope.
I applaud you for the ingenuity. I'm a big fan of DIY projects, but this is a very specific to your personal needs piece of work. Got me inspired though. Might model and print a clip that hangs it on the side of my screen. Problem is getting sidesync to work fully on thinkpad.
I used dual-sided suction cups back when I was tethering my network to my iPhone.

Hello,
I have spent many hours in last week to find out which one of the new chinese tablets is a best solution, but I find some contradictory data so I need some assistance. At the moment I am using a 2yr old Ployer Momo 12. The problems with the device were short battery life (less then two days in sleep without use, 5-6 hrs of use with low light setting and web browsing/reading), dedicated power supply and a bit unprecise touch control. Lately as the apps get bigger I feel that it's time for a change. Because there is very little price difference between various devices I would like to buy the best that I can.
The SoC options are Mediatek 8392, Allwinner A80T, RK3288 and the Intel option. According to my research, Mediatek should be a better solution then Allwinner. As I understand, the Intel is the slowest solution of the bunch, but I find contradictory information about RK3288. One group says that RK is a bit worst then A80T and Mediatek a bit better then A80T. Other say that RK should be the best of all. Who shall I trust?
As of specific devices I have been looking on Cube Talk 9X U65GT, Pipo P1, Teclast P98 Air Mediatek, Teclast P98 Allwinner, Onda V989. For the Onda I have read that the build quality is not the best. I like that the Cube has Gorilla Glass, but the downside is the lack of HDMI and a proprietary charging connector. My judgement about the Pipo hengs on the answer to the last question, which SoC to chose. Teclast i do like very much, I like that it is not thin on the edges and thick in the middle, but has the same thickness all over and a aluminum casing that should help with heat dissipation and there is a USB 3.0. There are also the two SoC flavors at Teclast and that is also a choice that I am unable to make. And at last there is a question about the battery life, for many devices I have found the some review, except for the Teclast devices, so if you have some data I would appreciate it.
I want the device that would work nicely out of the box (without the custom rom's), I would like to have HDMI, Gorilla glass is not a must have, because it will be in a case most of the time, 3G is not needed as I can make a tethering connection with my phone if I really need a web connection when not in reach of WLAN. That should be it, what could be the final recommendation for my case?
I also want to change my Android tv box device. Current device is a MK809III stick. The main con's in current device are thermal problems and wifi problems, both have been solved by disassembling the box. As a new device I have chosen Beelink R89 Box with RJ45 eth connection and bigger case, also a few more USB ports. I have also been looking at SZTomato R89, but the Beelink seemed better, did I make the right choice?
Thank you all for taking time to help me,
Regards,

You mention processors better than intel. I do not know if you are a fan of windows but do these processors support windows?
I have the Teclast x98 air 3g. I just ordered it from China. It has both android and windows 8.1. It can be used as a pc and has
hdmi/usb/bluetooth. I played a game from windows xp on it. It is similar to the onda but has a brighter screen and HDMI. You should get a
tablet with 2gb ram and maybe 64 gb like Teclast. Normal use is about 1.4 ram and 32 gb could be barely anything when you consider it
could really be like 29 minus OS. When you first get it is in chinese. You can change the language in the settings. The battery is supposed
to last 5 hours. I am guessing it will be a lot less if your watching a movie or playing an intense 3d game.
Looking for some technical wizards for a theoretical project lol. I am interested in knowing and understanding more about the Shield Tablet's screen.
My main question or theoretical project is:
Does a larger screen with the same specs as this one exist? Or, was this screen created specifically for NVIDIA? I'm inclined to think that Nvidia sourced existing screens but I don't know.
I'd like to find a 10 or 12 inch screen of the same specs and use it with the guts of the Shield Tablet.
NOTE-disregard the issues pertaining to battery life, housing, and all other engineering obstacles. I'm just curious if a larger equivalent screen exists.
Thanks to all who chime in and offer useful information.
Why not just use the hdmi out? Lol

IPad pro is everything you need. All kidding aside, This project of yours is a bit ambitious. The screen alone would cost as much if not more than the tablet itself. At that point you're in actual 10in tablet price range.
I'd look into the pixel c (Whenever that gets released.) or the N9 if you want a different screen. If you wanted to badly enough you could try opening it up and looking into part/model numbers on the screen but it probably won't lead you very far. It's hard enough to find any replacement components for this thing, I couldn't find a good battery replacement yet
Hey guys, looking at phones and thinking about the Honor 8X. Mostly coz of the big screen. Anyone familiar with it? Got any other big screen recommendations?
Also been researching that phone lately. Looks like a solid choice. Basically can't see any side frames from the promo photos, also extremely narrow top and bottom.
If you're into tech, a COF process is used to move the integrated circuit (where millions of tiny resistors and transistors are) UNDER a component that is traditionally placed by its side -- that's how they squeezed an extra bit of height out of the bottom.
Does anyone know of any other phones with comparable specs? For ref:
https://www.91mobiles.com/compare/Honor/8X/vs/Samsung/GalaxyJ82018/vs/Xiaomi/Mi8/vs/Apple/iPhoneXR.html (this link is an Indian site. Pretty useful tool anyways)
It's a decent phone with good screen little bezels 91% screen to body ratio not a lot in price range can compare, maybe new xiaomi mi 8 lite but only 6'2" and £259/279 so little more but you do get type c USB and fast charge SD 660 so slightly better in some respects [emoji106]
