Preparing for Android 4.3 - Nexus 10 General

Just wanted to know how everyone is preparing for android 4.3 which I'm sure is to be announced and available later on today.
Custom ROM users: are you flashing back to stock?
As a rooted and custom ROM user, I'm torn between flashing back to stock for update or just waiting a few weeks until its baked into some awesome ROMs. Thoughts?

Not doing anything. Doesn't really bother me. Once it's released, if it is found to have some must-have improvements, then i'll most likely wait for AOKP to incorporate it, but for now, my tablet works just fine and i can't see a reason to consider changing things up.

That's fair. For me though, honestly I may end up flashing back just to resolve the Mali driver issue. On my n10 it is a huge problem and I may not be able to wait any longer to resolve it, so hopefully 4.3 includes the drivers. We'll see.

I also plan to just wait until it makes its way to CM. I'm planning on building my ROMs from source from this point on (adding PDroid and some other local changes) and it shouldn't take too long until CM is updated. I picked CM mainly because their build instructions are the best I've been able to find.

Just announced that starting today, Android 4.3 will be pushed to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 10.

Hi guys,
Do you recon 4.3 will need wipe or non - wipe? hope its non-wipe

Can we receive update if on stock, but rooted? Do we have to have stock recovery? Never had a Nexus device so I'm just wondering...

Its been so long since I updated mine I can't even remember what to do. I think the Nexus 10 toolkit will do it for me since I'm rooted.

While I'm not positive, I'm fairly certain that you update even without stock recovery, but you will use root unless you use an app called "OTA Root keeper"

It's already available for download at https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#mantarayjwr66v
Flash with fastboot.

I flashed manually and via the script and get stuck at the X logo on boot.
I would hold off on flashing for now.

Flashed mine, wiped all data, but works fine (I had restored to stock rom and recovery beforehand).
Notable changes include slightly snappier response, miracast support, and apparently finger flinger is fixed (read that in a other thread, i'm not rooted so can't check)

I had that problem when I flashed the old OS after unlocking bootloader when I got the N10. A subsequent data wipe fixed it:
1. Reboot into Fast Boot
2. Select Recovery using volume rocker. Hit power to select. You'll get the android mascot with the red exclamation point.
4. Press Power and Volume Up at the same time (this is the side of the volume rocker that is away from the power button for those new to the device).
5. Choose to wipe all data. Confirm the selection.
6. Reboot.

I have my rablet rooted and bootloader unkocked. If i update via OTA i will lose root i suppose? I heard that the bootloader changes too. It will be relocked?

[CM 10.1][4/9/13] For LG E970 updated to 4.1.2 OTA

Your phone has to be updated to ATT 4.1.2 OTA, rooted and unlocked with FreeGee in order for this to work!
This CM10.1 ROM is essentially the same as in my other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130639
but with minor modification to work on ATT LGOG updated to 4.1.2 OTA. 4.1.2 OTA is essential since it allows to boot mako (nexus 4) based kernels.
Do not flash kernels from N4 forums. You will hard brick your phone by flashing many of them!
The problem is is that many of them refer to partitions by number and the numbers are different between Nexus 4 and Optimus G so you will flash boot.img into rpm partition. Brick.
Even if you're lucky and installation script refer to partitions by name, the radio will not work and of cause you will not have ext sd, capacitive keys etc.
What works:
- External SD card
- Camera
- GPS
- NFC (don't install Google Wallet, it breaks NFC Server)
- Capacitive keys
- HDMI over MHL
- the usual stuff
Click to collapse
Known problems:
- CM 10.1 is still not released so it may have some bugs
- notification LED(power button) is not reliable
- you tell me

Notes:
- Backup your EFS partitions before flashing any firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161611
- Gapps are not included.
Gapps by BaNkS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 work good for me.
Install what you use(Gmail, Maps etc) from Play Store.
- Since this is based on my N4 conversion ROM your phone will identify itself as Nexus 4.
- No modem is included in this ROM. 4.1.2 modem from AT&T update(you should have after installing 4.1.2 OTA) works with no issues so far, everything(LTE/GPS/sensors etc) is functional . Thanks g33k3r! : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220048. It shows 'Maritime' when connected to AT&T network, just ignore this, I will look into it later.
- HDMI over MHL does not work in mirror mode (known N4 CM 10.1 bug) as of now: Media players and youtube play video to both phone screen and hdmi but regular apps output video to either phone screen or hdmi: after connecting MHL cable, turn screen off then on to switch to hdmi
- If you use faux123 kernel with my fixes I recommend to buy 'Faux123 Kernel Enhancement Project' from Play Store

Installation instructions:
If installing the ROM for the first time:
- boot into recovery.
- do a backup of your current rom/data !
- system partition needs to be formatted: enter 'mounts and storage' cwm menu and do 'format /system'
- do 'wipe data/factory reset'
- install ROM zip
- install Gapps zip
- reboot
If upgrading to the new version of the ROM:
- boot into recovery.
- do a backup of your current rom/data !
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- install ROM zip
- install Gapps zip
- reboot
Optional:
- If NFC does not work for you, flash this in cwm: http://d-h.st/51v Flash it ONLY if NFC does not work for you!

This is restricted for those who actually got the OTA. It's not safe for people who flashed the AT&T 4.1.2 zip file that SnowLeopard produced, correct?

Correct. Everyone who flashes this must have OTA'd via Software Update. Flashing roms doesn't count since it relies on the JB trust zone partition. If you have not gotten JB officially via OTA from AT&T do not flash.
Looks like those of us on Straight Talk are SOL when it comes to all the new ROMs that are coming out since we can't get the OTA. Bummer.

Last time someone said "flashing should not hard-brick your phone", flashing said ROM started a down hill spiral that ended in hard brick. the death spiral was likely 90% user error, but it still happened.

I keep seeing mention of the tz partition, but I haven't really seen anything that describes what it is or how it affects the device. I've tried to keep up on all the current threads here... Did I miss something? Or has this been primarily discussed in IRC or elsewhere? Just curious as to what it is and does.

Rooted Software Update

So my phone downloaded the update at&t released today, but it just boots into twrp recovery... is there a way i can locate this update and install it manually ? What's the trick to updating a rooted phone? I am on stock.
No it isn't possible

To install an ota you need to be completely stock. Not rooted, no bloatware removed and be using stock recovery.

Update, At&t released a update., what update
Anxiously runs to phone, checks both AT&T and HTC software updates, nuthin, nada, zilch, goes back to coffee, now depressed and out of sorts, gonna call in sick
Hmmm, if your rooted, and running twrp, your technically not stock.
I just posted an easy unroot zip I made for a friend who has the same issue as you.
Going with this thread, how can you get the OTA again?
The main reason i want the update so i can use Spigen glass tr protector.... ;/ The stock is very clean and runs great.. there has to be a way to update it somehow... Since my phone downloaded the update it means its stored somewhere?? can't i use recovery to install the update ? Now i understand that might break root prob but then re root ? just thinking outloud here. What is the best rom tha is a smooth as stock or even smoother with better battery life? trick or revolution ? those seem to be the popular ones

Best Method to get 4.3 update

I have been seeing a lot of folks talking about just going back to complete stock to install the update.
Is that the best option? Are we able to root 4.3 yet?
Do you need to reset S-off on the phone or what? I have seen a few different things out there today talking about this. My phone downloaded the update and keeps asking me to install ever so often but of course won't as I don't have the stock recovery console.
All help and info is appreciated!
I'm using Avatar ROM and my phone isn't even prompting me with the update. I'm really happy with my phone now so I'll give it a few days and wait for feedback on it.

BAM 4.4 Kit Kat Custom Rom

Has anyone tested BAM on the TF201? If so what were your feelings on it vs CM11?
TF 201 is on BAMs supported Device List
I'm assuming you need to be on the 4.1 bootloader with a working recovery. You install it via the application

if anyone is on 4.1 and willing to flash you should let me know how it goes. I am on Cromi-X on the 4.2 bootloader so I am hesitant to go through the whole flashing process if the ROM is buggy. Thanks in advanced.

I have been trying to get it install since yesterday. It says it installed successfully using the new TWRP Voyager recovery that is KitKat compatible. The ROM just sits at the Asus screen though for 3 or 4 minutes and won't boot the ROM. I don't know if there is something else I need to do or not. I know I haven't bricked my device as I was able to get back into recovery and install my backup. Anyone have any suggestions???

Maybe the new recovery isn't necessary? I am not too sure it seems like a lot of the community for developing is found on Google+ I haven't seen anything on XDA about BAM Android for our Primes, hence the reason I posted here in the Q&A

Ah well that makes sense, we don't want to brick the tab over a possible ROM. How is CM11 though? I had 10.2 for a while but it stuttered too much for my taste. Have you noticed any degradation of overall performance with gaming and videos?
