Hello,
Any updates on when T-Mobile, if at all, plans to release Android 4.2.2 or 4.3 for the HTC One?
Thanks,
Crazysah
"Soon" is about all we heard.
My guess is that we'll get the same OS that is on the HTC One Mini, and we'll get it when the Mini hits T-Mobile stores.

At this point it's all on T-Mobile. Since international 4.2.2 has been out... For while... Sigh... T-Mobile....

Your probably right. Let's hope we don't have to wait as long as it was for the one s to get jelly bean. I'm very happy with stock (save for a few minor things I wish I could get rid of.. that water game, kids mode and carrier is) sense 5 is perfect in my book.

My guess is the middle of September for 4.2.2.
For 4.3 that will be some time Spring-Summer 2014

i heard soemthing about a tmobile OTA update potentially coming the 29th dont know how credible it is but its something.
It's htc and tmobile. I wouldn't count on an update until at least it's 2 versions behind. Look to the fall for 4.2.2 and don't count on anything beyond that. Just my opinion so take it for what it is, but look at HTC's track record and u will see.

Yeap agreed with you. Though really I'm fine with being on 4.1 right now, I ran Android Revolution for about a month but the lack of Wi-Fi calling/texted is killing me. Once the RUU gets updated i'll flash it and run that till they release a version of 4.2 so mike can integrate Wi-Fi calling with ARHD. 4.2.2 really only had a few things that make it better, mainly using home button as a menu key to get rid of the three dot lower menu. 4.3 doesn't have too many killer features either so i'm not in a huge rush for it, i'd be fine with them skipping over it and just having 5.0 ready to go whenever it comes time.
4.3 adds performance boost, would be nice to see this instead of 4.2.2 hitting America, but in the end id rather see key lime pie over anything

I just want 4.3 for the bluetooth stack. Guess we will see it a year from now.

Reddit doesn't have "copy link" option or something like this.
WiFi calling would be the biggest draw backs in changing the Rom. There is ARHD that supports WiFi calling. The downside would be that it's 4.1.2
Other than that, it is far superioir than the stock T-Mobile.

Based on previous HTC phones, the odds of us getting a 4.3 update are slim to nil, unless on the Developer edition or GPe.

Nexus 4
HTC One GPE (on 4.3 now)
Galaxy S4 GPE (on 4.3 now)
Galaxy S4 - comes preloaded.
Galaxy Nexus
I'm probably missing some other recent devices, but yeah - 4.2.2 is rolling out for smartphones.
This makes me a saaaaad panda, though a Dutch T mobile tester said on their forums that it's 1 to 3 weeks until we get the update.

I hear some one have an Amaze 4G running ICS 4.0.4, but when update from OTA, I got 4.0.3 (TMobile).
Any one know what OTA (or leaked) can I use for 4.0.4?
Another question: Can I flash an OTA from Telus or Wind on my TMobile?
Thank.

If you want to flash RUU from another carrier, you'll need to have s-off and super cid.

No carrier got 4.0.4, they all got 4.0.3, you're sol until the guys get their 4.0.4 custom rom fully working.

I'd hate that, knowing this phone could do with the lighter version of sense, but then again, JB is pretty smooth and completely lag free, so even if you guys are stuck on sense 3.6, once you get the update at all, you'll be in heaven, trust me.

It shouldn't be that difficult noting JB wasn't a major overhaul the way ICS was, so working with it should be simple, once they don't push too much bloat into it and slow down the system, which with the work google put in, shouldn't be affected at all.
It cant be sense 4 because sense 4 is ICS, in theory since sense 4 is ics they cant make sense 3.x jellybean because the order would be broken of versions....they might give a sense 4.1 and give one s users sense 4.5 of something along those lines

lol wut?
Anyways, several things.
1. Why the need for 4.0.4? I've looked at the change log, doesn't seem like all that much that I'd really care about
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history#Android_4.0.x_Ice_Cream_Sandwich
Don't we have custom camera software anyways?
Damn, gotta have that smoother screen rotation....
2. Why the need for Sense 4? I've used a phone with Sense 4, and to be honest, Sense 3.6 and 4 are very similar, just 4 has a few quirks (recent apps screen, widgets in the app drawer, couple extra cloud services, what else?).
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/45134/htc-sense-3-6-vs-sense-4
Version number envy?
3. I doubt HTC would bump the sense version if we get JB.

Yes but apparently sense versions below 4 are huge hogs, even HTC admited it was, so they made sense 4 much more lighter. And, if HTC gave us older devices ics with an slightly updated sense 3.6 instead of 4, then they might give us sense 4 while probably a new gen HTC's with a newer version of sense releases, makes SENSE to me ahhahahaha pun intended

Not gonna happen. Multiple times they've stated legacy devices that shipped pre-ICS will not get Sense 4. They want to maintain the same look & feel as when the phone shipped, so as not to upset most people. Granted, basically anyone on xda would probably rather have AOSP from the manufacturer, but the general public won't. Eg. my girlfriend has the Evo 3D and says she won't update to ICS when Sprint releases it next month because they got rid of the arc tray at the bottom on the home screen. She had a friend who has the Evo V 4G, saw what ICS would look like on her phone, and has completely ruled it out.

This is correct, I don't appreciate the sarcasm guys. The DNA is much more powerful than the Gnex and it has been out since November and so has 4.2.
4.2 mostly added changes for tablets, there really wasn't much changed for phones over 4.1 besides adding that new photosphere. That's mainly the reason why Google didn't bother to give it a new code name. I doubt it's worth the effort to upgrade.
I think everyone needs to remember what goes into these things. Clearly none of you have worked in an IT department before. Google releases a new version. HTC will get it, and then begins customizing it for their devices. They have to adjust the firmware, rebuild sense... it's not small development work. Then it goes into QA for a while to make sure it's up to par. Then it's released to Verzion and goes into their QA. Problems that arise during these phases are corrected and retested. Finally after it's all signed off, it's scheduled for release. That process can and does take months. It's the significant drawback for the android platform. Apple on the other hand would have been done with their initial release. Google Nexus phones get all the upgrades because Google tests everything for them before they release the new version.

It is extremely unrealistic to expect a heavily skinned HTC device to get updates at the same speed as a device running just stock vanilla Android.
The Sense overlay is massive, and requires a lot of tuning and customization in order to function properly. Throw a new version of Android at HTC, and they have to spend a lot of time to make 'Sense' of things, if you take my meaning. The first thing they have to figure out is whether or not the update will even improve the user experience. What if there's no benefit to the end user because the update was mainly for tablets (as the previous poster said). Or, is it worth the cost of re-tooling Sense for an extremely minor update?
All this hating on HTC over updates on fairly new phones is really unfair.
Now the Rezound ICS update debacle was unforgivable, but this device hasn't even been out 6 months, and they've already put out an OTA with new radios. Dude, that's freaking awesome support!
So instead of all the negativity, how about congratulating HTC on lessons learned from the Rezound delays, and enjoying what you've got?

Man idk why you even started this topic? Have you been on Android or VZW for any length of time whatsoever? This shouldn't be a surprise. I mean we will probably see AOSP 4.2 from one of the devs long before we see 4.2 or even sense 5(which we already have) from VZW. Updates for phones that aren't a Nexus always take a long time and VZW is notorious for making that wait even longer.

I don't get this kinda logic. Google has to build and test the next update, sometimes the update has bugs. Would you want a new update just because it's new and have problems with it? I wouldn't. I'd rather samsung wait and finalize their update, while waiting for Google to fix any problems.
Samsung still has to build and test their rom. To me as long as I get the update I'm fine. If I wanted updates that badly I'd be with the nexus 4

So if im understanding what youre saying youd like a still broken 4.2.2 update? Its not fixed yet, its been months now since it was released. I think we take the L on this one and move on
Stock 4.2.2 crippled my N7, so much so that i literally gave it away. At this point, as ashamed as I am to say it...samsung has done more to fix it than google has
Verizon recently jumped the gnex from whatever it was on straight to 4.2.2. Chances are we wont see a 4.2.2 OTA or leak before Android 5 (or w.e its called) is announced in May. 4.2.2 was meant to be a foundation for 5, so why not skip the 4.2 update, which, IMO doesnt bring much thats meaningful to the table anyway and go straight for the next version?

For what it's worth on the update of our phones and skipping 4.2.2:

I know that S Health wouldn't work because of the sensors. I'm pretty sure S Drive and Air Gesture will get ported to the N2.
I'm wondering about the Dual Camera mode or Smart Pause, will that be a possibility on ours or is that a hardware issue? Anything in particular you guys want to see ported?

I would think S Health would be possible. The Note would get the necessary software upgrade and the accessories would house the sensors.

Stooked about key lime pie, but wondering if it will bring new problems for developing? I hope not, the dev community we do have for our beloved Note 2 do a great job, regardless.

Hopefully they upgrade the Verizon variant too. I am new to VZN (came from Sprint) and from what I read/heard the updates come late if at all.
I would love to use the finger hover feature on the s4 with my note 2. Doesn't seem like it would be tough since the s-pen code probably looks for data from the pen and ignores fingers which is likely more complex. I personally have waited for tablets to add this ability for things like menus on non mobile pages so if this update does happen on the note line I might consider the note 10.1 over a nexus 10 or a 4th gen ipad.
I know the s-pen does the same thing but I personally find the tip is difficult to depress at angles and using it for drawing is basically impossible since the screen position sensor resolution isnt quite fine enough for precise pixel selection.
Half the people, including those on the forum probably dont even know half of the features the n2 even come with.
For instance, on a list of people (sms, phome, contacts), you can press on a contact and slide left to text or right to call. One more exampke are the s-pen gestures....sigh....

Twitter user Llab TooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) got tech fans speculating on the prospects for HTC devices after tweeting: "2012 devices won't get it...only butterfly/droid dna might 4.4..."
According to Llab TooFer, that means HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One S won't be able to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update.
HTC hasn't given any official word about it ,JB required high amt of ram to run, google says that 4.4 is built in such a way that it can be feeded into phones which have low ram. What do you think about this?

With this logic, we should at least get a 4.3 update. But I doubt HTC will even give us that.

Nobody knows how they act and what they will release... Look at Kernel Stuff e.g.
If they won´t release newer sources for kitkat and next sense, they will hopefully give devs the necessary driver for AOSP ROMS !
4.2 has started rolling out for HOX/HOX+ , Samsung is skipping 4.2 update for s3 and note 2 and these devices will directly receive 4.3 update, Might be the same case with hox devices? As 4.2 has rolled out, they might skip 4.3 and directly launch 4.4 as it has low ram requirements too.
What you guys say?

So that means for me Nexus or models which supports the developing
No, Talking about Intl. Model, Ofcourse ONE will go 4.4 as its their current flapship. they should do 4.4 for one series as HTC has less no. of Top Notch cellphones in the market compared to samsung, So Sammy wont pay attention to all of its devices. Whereas HTC has handful, After ONE, its Its HOX/HOX+ and the remain one series. Thats what i am saying :fingers-crossed:

4.4? You have to be freaking joking. Half of us (including everybody in CID 044 Southeast Asia) still don't even have 4.2.2, close to seven weeks after it first started rolling out.
There is zero chance HTC will give any of us 4.4. And it has nothing with inability to run it; it's because they couldn't give a flying hoot, even about their supposed flagship devices.
If you buy from HTC, you're a sucker. I won't be doing so again.

4.2 might be the last update for HOX/HOX+.
We WONT be getting kitkat the X+ is end of life
Sent from my One X+ using Tapatalk 4
Honestly, I believe that 4.4 will be the end of the road for us. I believe that they will give out 4.4 by the summer of 2014 and skip 4.3 entirely.
However as for Hox and Hox+ sense 5 and 4.2.2 , it's been released for a month now and if you hadnt received it you should quite soon, so don't give up.
The reason for my speculation. Is that HTC announced that they will try to satisfy their old customers and roll out updates for older devices. And the one x+ isn't that old yet.
Hopefully we will get it

In a couple of days, it will have been seven weeks since 4.2.2 first came out for some CIDs. That's nearly two months, not a month.
You know you are not getting 4.4 when it comes from Lloir. But maybe someone can make Rom carrying sense 6 with 4.4? Come on guys lets not give up. X+ is a beast phone, and it's worth developing.
I am still learning programming (java) and so forth and so on but once I could I will work on the development of this phone.
As for the previous post for my CID I got the update around the 22nd of august which is a month, but it wasnt meant to be accurate. Well if we aren't getting 4.4 I think we will get 4.3 atleast ?

Tegra is not only the CPU, its the chip set in the device, also nvidia need to update the kernel or provide HTC the drivers to get a newer android to work on the device. Which they won't support as I said tegra4 is released so little point to them to support it
Sent from my One X+ using Tapatalk 4
But then again, the 2012 Nexus 7 is a Tegra 3 device and I doubt Google won't push and insist for 4.4 on it.
So I guess Nvidia will support Tegra 3, and it would be up to HTC to decide whether to update the HOX(+) or not.

I came just to post this.. honestly, why keep doing this? The DNA can run Sense 5, we know this. So, Why keep playing this game? First it was what, 4.2.3, then 4.3 "coming soon" and now onto 4.4 ... Oh well. The dev's have our backs here for sure.. too bad they couldn't get their hands on some of the code.. But here is a link to the article with copies of tweets from HTC...
HTC Gives Clarity To Update Schedule - 4.4 KitKat Coming To Droid DNA By End Of Q1, HTC One By End Of January
when could we get android 4.5, 2015?
I'm quite happy with my DNA the support of the devs on here is phenomenal! I'm just saying that we getting this update EVENTUALLY and then will get even better...and I'm not talking about the update I'm talking about the devs doing their thing with the code...I can honestly say because of the support on here this is the first cell that I don't have that urge to upgrade after exactly a year since I got it I always get that itch but I'm cool with my DNA running Viper DNA I know it's going to get better

Just S-OFF & root, flash custom rom with sense 5, & blam! Done. I gave up trying to have faith in VZW. Always delays & other BS. I'll stick with the devs. Better updates. Better support. Better features.
Thanks for posting this. Most people thought it wouldn't happen at all but better late than never. The only reason I get stoked about official releases is because it's much smoother for development. Cutting to bits some port has proven to be problematic so any official release can yield higher quality custom roms.

Yeah, I won't run the official OTA anyways, but having an official base for our phone makes it so much easier for the devs. They don't have to hack and port from other phones to try and possibly work with the crap kernel source we have now.
Ah well, I do agree it sucks we have to wait but as said, having a version for our precious DNA will make it easier in the long run for the devs not having to port everything. Still better than it was stock thanks to the viper team Rom. And always better than an iPhone

They'll delay till end of 2nd quarter and by then device will be EOL so therefore no more updates. HTC should stop tweeting about timelines if they continuously cannot hold them. DNA is a perfect reason why you should root your phone. Hardware capable, glacial software updates or never.
Why do people still complain, is the same for almost every AndroiD maker. If you don't like it, switch to at&t and get a nexus. If you need an official then sit back, wait, and don't hold your breath. If you don't go flash a rom.

Makes you wonder how in the HECK Motorola got the Moto X updated to 4.4 so fast, and with VZW as the first carrier, even before some Nexus' have been updated to 4.4!
Makes me consider the Moto X as an upgrade!

I replied to his tweet about the 4.4 update asking if that is considered him putting it in writing, and he said "Yes" without any hesitation.
I don't know how to post a twitter image so I just copy/pasted the text of his response:
My question to him:
@jasonmacHTC @crmeyerhofer Is this considered you putting this in writing?I love HTC dvcs, but lack of updts on 3 of them are driving me away
His reply to me:
Reply to @badogg @crmeyerhofer yes. we need to finalize schedules internally and with Verizon.
Are they still promising the 4.3 update by the end of the year?

Remember most of the update issues are what Verizon does after HTC gives them the update. HTC actually does a decent job with updates for all carriers it is just Verizon that delays them.
