Enabled usb debug and got latest kies drivers, I'm confused.
PS:Im from France
Nvm finally succeeded to root using odin 1.84 and CF 6.2.

Hi was looking for some help with an issue.
I am running unbranded ICS 4.0.3 with root access.
IML74K.XWL7
Kernel:: 3.0.15-1900XWL7-CL340913 [email protected] #3
I have some moisture damage so cannot connect via usb to use odin pc.
I'm trying to get CF-Root kernel so I can use CWM to flash RR 2.6.1
I select the tar CF-Root file : CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5 from "open file" and then select flash firmware, it says its flashing kernel and then resets the phone as if it has worked but the kernel remains the same, it hasnt worked.
What am I doing wrong here? Never had a problem with Mobile Odin before.

You can try flashing a zip file in stock recovery that will give you temporary Cwm. From that you can flash any kernel you want.
And I have no idea where to get that file...

EDIT: Tried again with CF-Root 6.4 + Odin 1.85, and it worked. Perfect. It had to work after I posted the issue to XDA.
Hi,
this is my first post here so excuse me if I have missed something obvious (other than searching, 'cause I've done that )
I'm having issues with rooting my international Samsung Galaxy S3 using CF-Root. I have USB debugging enabled, and I have flashed the package through Odin (although it went rather quickly, about 10 seconds if not less...). However, when the phone reboots, it's not rooted, there's no Superuser app, and I'm still on the stock recovery.
I've tried this with CF-Root 6.4 + Odin 1.85, CF-Root 6.4 + Odin 3.04, and CF-Root 6.3 + Odin 1.85.

Hi All
I had rooted my phone a few days back using odin and cf-root. Today I got new updates from Kies. (android version is still 4.04) . Now the root was gone, so i tried to root again. But it started to fail all the time. I donwloaded latest ODIN V3.07 and CF-Root V6.4 and tried that. Now Odin says PASS but there is no su or cwmod and root checker says no root.
Is there anything obvious I am doing wrong?
Thanks so much for your help!

go back to your nandroid/cwm backup restore and see if its fixed, also if Kies worked you must be running stock firmware as updates not available to modified phones
dont tick auto reboot and after ODIN has done its thing, boot into recovery manually.
thanks all.
i finally rooted it using the s3 toolkit, with the recovery method. it said it worked on all devices and it certainly worked with mine
I am using a UK model S3.
Version 4.1.2
Can I be rooted?
No root guides seem to be simple!
Is this guide legit? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnOtRKWbQyU
Confusing?
1. Download Odin
2. Download cf auto root
3. Plug phone to Odin, reboot to download mode.
4. Put cf auto root tar in "PDA", press start/flash and five seconds later you're rooted.
The S3 is the easiest phone I've ever rooted. Beats rooting Nexii in speed.

Depends on which odin you use. Odin 1.85 should show a yellow box saying com:0 while Odin 3.x should show a blue box.
If neither shows what it should, you're either not in download mode or the drivers haven't been correctly installed. Install Kies to install the correct drivers, then CLOSE KIES BY TERMINATING ITS PROCESS COMPLETELY since Kies is known to mess with Odin.
