I haven't had this error till today! I was flashing a custom rom and following its procedure for flashing. When i tried to factory reset via CWM recovery I got this error " error mounting /emmc/ .android_secure " then it skips system format!
I searched Google for fixes. Many had recommended to format the internal memory but again many mentioned it is not safe to format internal SD.
Is it kernel related or is my internal memory corrupted?
Any suggestions?

hi there
i was removing ext-sdcard to install a new rom to my sgs2 and follow these steps:
.run into the Recovery
.wipe data
.wipe cache
.enter mounts and storage
.format cache, system, data, sdcard, emmc
.back to main menu
.enter advanced
.wipe dalvik and cache
.back to main menu again
.enter mounts and storage
.then to mount usb storage
.copying rom files from my pc to my phone's internal storage
.unmount
.back to main menu
.enter install zip from sdcard
.choose zip file from sdcard
.and finally installing the rom successfully!!!
a few days ago i wanted to try another rom and followed the same steps but i got "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)" when trying to mount usb storage. in the other hand i can't format sdcard. i got "unable to mount scdard" error mesage.
did i brick my internal storage?now i installed original rom md5 file with odin. i can see my 11,5gb internal storage. my CWM version is 5.0.2.7. how can i fix this problem???
which version on cmw do you have? 4.x.x.x may have this problem. versione 5.0.0.x solved it for me
my CWM version is 5.0.2.7 and using siyahkernel 2.3

**** i thought i was seeing things as i am the same as the OP but this isn't good
Well after panicking and thinking my phone was broke, I found this thread, and flashed a different kernel and all is working again.
At first I thought it was the latest cwm causing a problem as it worked in the previous cwm but it was the kernel causing the "Unable to write to ums..." error
I have looked up this problem on both xda and google but found no Galaxy SII specific solutions.
I receive the error "Can't mount /cache/recovery" message when I enter recovery mode. The same error occurs when try to mount every other mounts and still receive the equivalent error. eg mount emmc gives "error mounting /emmc/
I am unable to flash a new rom or even mount the sd card to place a rom on.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times but to no avail. I have also tried to full wipe, cache wipe and format the internal partitions individually through the recovery but it did not work.
Clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.3
same error occurs on cwm 4.0.1.4
No current rom
Heard people say that by removing the sd card the error is resolved... (will only work if a corrupt sd card is to blame)
Might be able to use internal though
I tried it without the sd card, still same error. Also, the sd card i used before was working on another phone with all files intact, so no corrupted sd.
I would try starting a fresh... flashing with odin etc ... can you access download mode ?

Yeah that version of cwm has that problem. What you can do is copy a rom to your external sdcard, take out sdcard and put in card reader copy rom and put back in phone, and install from zip and then go external sdcard and install from there. Or what you can do is use odin to flash cwm v5.5 which works just fine.
Hope this helps.

Could well help. The recovery.img turned out to be incompatible with my device, giving the same errors.
I started up my Gtab today (running ICS 4.0.x), and it keeps popping up stating "Encryption unsuccessful
Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result the data on your tablet is no longer accessible.
To resume using your tablet, you must perform a factory reset. When you setup your tablet after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account."
WTF?
I tried booting into recovery mode, but it hangs after stating "Recovery key detected, Booting recovery kernel image"
That's all it does....
Any suggestions on how to correct this?
Thanks ahead of time...

1. As the message says you'll most probably have to do a "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM. Run the command in this post.
2. Which version of CWM do you have?
Im not certain what version CWM is but it was the most up to date at the time. I cant access CWM as it sits now.
Should I try to use NVflash to rerun the Full_Stock_NVFlash_CWM_5504_Touch-1, just as I did before I installed ICS?...then reinstall the rom?
I can not access CWM...it locks up after stating "booting recovery kernel image"

The usual reason for that error message on ICS is a corrupted /data partition. To fix it you'll have to do either a "wipe data/factory reset" or a repartition the internal SD card in CWM.

The most common reason for that is
a) using the wrong version of CWM for the bootloader installed on the system--ie. using a recovery containing a 1.2 kernel on a 1.1 bootloader or vice-versa.
OR
b) a corrupted recovery partition.
To fix both on ICS--esp. if you've used the nvflash package in the TeamDRH ICS OP--try reloading only CWM-5.5.0.4Beta15 using nvflash.
Can you tell me what you were doing before all this happened? I can understand the /data partition becoming corrupt, or, the recovery kernel being the wrong one (or the partition being bad), but, I can't figure out how both can happen at the same time without something explicitly being done to cause it.
Not sure if it helps but I am also getting this error, I will update as I attempt to troubleshoot.
ROM: G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged) (4.0.4)
CWM: 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8
I got both errors but the second was solved by unplugging my computers USB cable from the g-tab.
(I can not access CWM...it locks up after stating "booting recovery kernel image") SOLVED
Steps:
1. From the settings picked factory reset loose all data and SD card data.
2. Reboot to recovery (CWM).
3. Formatted the internal SD card and ExSD card using CWM.
4. Mounted SD card on computer using USB cable connected to the G-Tab.
5. Let windows format the SD card. (Was this bad?)
6. Loaded ROM.zip file over to SD card from computer.
7. wipe data/factory reset.
8. wipe cache partition.
9. install zip from SD card -> coose zip from sdcard -> G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged).zip
10. Install.
11. Reboot.
12. Error screen "Encryption unsuccessful Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result the data on your tablet is no longer accessible...." "Press this button to do a factory reset"
13. Press the button to the same results.

UPDATE 1:
When I did a rewipe i found that when i did the data wipe is said:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting DATA...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk3p2
(No such file or directory)
Error mounting /data/!
Skipping format...
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting SDCARD:/android_secure...
Data wipe complete.

Could it be that when I used my computer to format the SD card I did it wrong?
UPDATE 2:
I was browsing around the CWM options and I found:
advanced -> Partition SD Card
Click to collapse
So I did that and then a data wipe again, and this time it said:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting DATA...
<<NOTE THE LACK OF ERRORS>>
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting SDCARD:/android_secure...
Data wipe complete.

I am hoping things should work now, I picked 2GB with a 0MB swap.
UPDATE 3:
Ok... should have figured that deleted my SD card files including my ROM "G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged).zip" so I mounted it and copied it over again.
(I also did some mounting and unmounted and may have lost it there.)
UPDATE 4:
IT WORKS!! fixed, must have been because I formatted out the data partition, but CWM fixed this for me!
I hope this helps others with the same issue.
So I flashed a new ROM today, Pier's latest AOKP ROM, and I think the latest CWM6 is causing some problems with the mounting and stuff..
CWM can't read my SDCard and mounting SDCard or USB Storage just fails..
It gives Error Mounting /sdcard when i try to mount SDCard, and for USB Storage, it just gives Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
Can't flash, backup (Nandroid) or do anything to my phone :/
Would appreciate if anyone could help?
Is it possible if I flash an old CWM Recovery via Odin?
Thanks!
How hard is it to wipe?

How hard is it to refrain from posting in this thread, if you're not keen to help?
try cleaning the cache of the apps that are not working. some of the data saved by the app from the previous rom maybe causing problems.
Sorry, updated op, just found the real problem!
Hi guys
I'm on cm 10.1 20130813 nightly for Galaxy s2
the folder android_secure can't be deleted
even on PC it will be deleted but once I unplug the cable opening root explorer it will show that the folder is there
when I wipe data it shows up this
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting .cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
so I cant format internal storage from recovery or mobile
in PC I can format it but the folder .android_secure will remain
Any solutions ???
should I have to install kernel or cwm or installing official firmware with odin
what to do ?
thank you
Leave that folder alone. It will always be there.

Won't solve anything if you format to different sd card format.
