[Q] Does the Xperia Tablet Z supported Apt-X? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for ways of transmission high quality audio stream. Bluetooth 4.0 with APT-X codec one of them. Does the Xperia Tablet Z supported Apt-X? Thanks.

It does not, but I really can't tell much of a difference between audio from the Tablet Z and audio from my Note 2 that does.

HDMI output - possible to increase pixel density?

Hi there,
I'm looking for the cheapest Android phone with HDMI output I can. It seems to be the Neo, but I hear bad things about the output only being at about 480p and looking poor when upscaled on TV.
Is it possible to increase this with a custom ROM?
If not, can anyone recommend a similarly cheap phone that outputs at 720p?
Hoping to use phone for UPnP with my TV.

The output is in 720p (1280x720), not 480p.

HDMI works only on stock ROMs, as Sony didn't release the HDMI source code for devs
Hope I helped!

Did a bit more digging apparently it's upscaled from 854x480...
Hey buddy, you can get an Xperia P
It's a medium-range phone like Neo, has Dual Core processor and HDMI output
It's not the cheapest thing out there, but it's not as expensive as a SGS3 or a Xperia S and has some decent hardware.

Sony apt-X support.

The lack of information on apt-X is ridiculous but I finally found something. According to the apt-X website, no current Sony devices support this protocol. This means that for any of you audiophiles like me, achieving the best sound quality on Sony devices is presently limited to wired headphones. This doesn't apply to headsets such as the Sony wireless headset pro, as pointed out by mrsatan. Just thought I'd share.

My sony bluetooth headphones use wolfson audio decoder which is arguably the best decoder around. I really dont understand what the big deal is with apt-X. Obviously there is some with hardware chips but it looks like their main draw is with software, which can be good or bad, Sony sound optimization is really good on Xperia S. They basically look like another vendor like Wolfson but I have never heard of them. Wolfson is awesome as **** when it comes to audio quality and my headphones are really good.

From what I understand the Wolfson DAC is hardware based in the phone, not in the Bluetooth transmitters/receivers. Bluetooth uses an entirely different protocol/codec to stream audio.. Once you stream via Bluetooth there is distortion. Not everyone notices it, but I do, and that could pertain to the type of music I listen to. That's why apt-X support is a better choice for some since distortion is eliminated. To each their own.

The wireless headset pro use Wolfson DAC since it is a standalone mp3 player as well. It definitely uses it even when streaming from the phone because their is a quality difference. There is no distortion on it because it doesnt decode before it streams it to bluetooth. I am a member of Head-fi.com and I remember before I bought the device we figured out what dac it was using and that influenced many to buy it. We were pleasantly suprised to see it using such a high quality dac.

Lol, this thread is in reference to stereo headsets that rely solely on the Bluetooth protocol so it wouldn't apply to the Sony wireless headset pro or similar devices.
Now I kinda want one of these Sony wireless headsets so I can keep my Sony phone, lol.

No current Sony products support apt-X. Your smart wireless headset still doesn't support it despite the conversation we just had, lol. That was the only point of my creating this thread.

if only we had an accessories section to discuss accessories. we should go and ask the admins
Also sad to see apt-x missing. It's a major buying factor for my next phone.
I have several bluetooth speakers that support it, so my next phone will.

I'm hoping future Sony products support it. There are a few different aptx-enabled BT headphones that I'm looking into buying. I currently have the Samsung HS3000 and wired earbuds but I want to go completely wireless.

I have no idea. The first step is to get a USB OTG adapter and take it from there

Suggestions needed for a Bluetooth headset for Xperia Tablet Z, Nexus 4 and PS3

Hi folks, I have a Nexus 4, Xperia tablet Z and PS3 and I'm looking for a bluetooth headset for use with all three of them.
Any suggestions I should consider? Perhaps you might be using similar 3-4 devices..

[Q] Xperia z tablet aptx question (lollipop update)

Hello. I've upgraded to lollipop and I've found that now when I connect to an aptx enabled bluetooth device a little message now pops up saying 'connected to aptx device' The z tablet had not previously been aptx compatible and the message never appeared before . Is it possible that lollipop has upgraded the tablet z? Or is it simply that it knows there's an aptx device but the tablet itself can't send an aptx signal? Thanks very much.
@gmjh I had a similar experience. I do not think aptX codecs have been installed by the Lollipop update. I believe the Xperia tablet is just recognizing your headset as a aptX capable device. I say this because, I compare the sound quality between my HTC One (which has aptX installed) and the Lollipop Xperia with my modded LG Tone Pro (with high end Logitech UE900s IEMS attached) and the difference is like night and day. My tablet is probably just using the crappy SBC codec.

On a different note, I should say, I am very happy with the aptX codec implementation and it quite lives upto its claims - the quality is close to a wired setup which is to say that it is quite an acheivement for bluetooth. I tend to use my bluetooth setup more often than my amplified wired setup.

That's interesting. I also have an htc one m8 as well as the sony z tablet. But when I play them after the lollipop update I cannot hear any difference in sound quality. If I then play via a lenovo tablet ( which definitely doesn't have aptx) then I can hear a night and day difference. So I still think it's possible the sony z tablet actually does have the aptx codec installed now. Thanks very much for answering.
