Try an Cpu Temperature app to see if it's really hot and if it's hot send it to a repair center
Or are you overclocking the device? It will get hot if you do that

Hmm, very strange because I have a random issue with overheating, resets or battery draining when I put it under a second pillow I have in my bed. Only times it starts to overheat is when I play games for a long period of time.
I'm afraid after updating to 4.1.1 my devices also gets hot while connected to WiFi and playing some music , games or whatever (heavy usage). During charge too the camera lens and the metallic plate gets hot more than the plastic back itself. Never had this problem on ICS. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone

I forgot to mention that battery drain is also there in JB :S
Take a look at this, after full charge from 7am till 10 min before 3pm used it and saw a drop of 6% in first 10 min only Horrible.
Via HTC sense
If your phone is heating up that just points to 2 issues either the battery or your apps usage....
Sad part about jb is more ram usage by the system... if ur device gets hot near the camera region that says that background processes are taking cpy usage which heats up the phone like when you play hd games for long times on desire x or to that fact any
modern android phone like a nexus 4...
If your phone gets hot towards the right side where SD card slot is located (which is very rare issue) try changing your SD card or upgrading it to a at least a class 6 SD card....
If its a battery issue and that region gets hot just replace your battery it will be good as new....
If your facing the first case I would suggest you to monitor which app or background process takes up a lot of ram uninstall it it should do the trick
My battery temperature is usually 33 degrees it's cool and battery life is decent I get a 12-16 hrs usage so m pretty happy with jb

Well you said you are using JB for 4 days, a new android version needs a week sometimes to work perfectly. Give it some more time.
If that doesnt help, try to cablirate your battery (take it down from 100% to the point where the phone shuts off because of low battery and then charge it to 100% without using it)

First off all I don't really play any heavy games on this device then bout the SD card, I have a class 10 Strontium SD card, which I suppose shouldn't be a issue. I bought this device a week back so changing the battery to another new one is worthless, you know it my battery is already almost new.
Battery life is really Getting worst every damn time, seriously a drop of 15-20% after every 10 min is killing the purpose of getting this phone

Since the ICS update, I've certainly noticed a great improvement in battery life. On this charge I had the brightness at about 50% and spent a lot of time playing Running Fred while listening to my purchased music on the 7digital player too. Before I would only get about 5-7 hours of screen on time with 0% brightness (as often as possible), using my phone as a music player and 24 hours standby max!
With honeycomb tho, I definitely noticed that loads of apps were constantly running in the background...even when I didn't start them and advanced task killer would only stop them for a sec before they'd just start again. Those same apps don't even do that anymore!

So, u mean that not using battery saver enabled runs 4 cores at the same time? Then, battery enabled use the extra core only?

Mine drains battery kinda fast over night while in flight mode (up to 10 % in 7 hours, last device used only 1 % in the same time)... Is this the same on yours?
gsmarena stated similar, they say it drains too much even if it's not used... what could it be? Maybe the weather on the lockscreen even if it's in flight mode and not updating?
thanks!
I have productivity lockscreen, no flight mode active during night, but i do feel the drain.
Let's hope the next OTA will resolve this.

Do you know what your screen time was like for that usage? I'm considering this phone and the original HOX, and I'd be happy with that if it was 3-4 hours of heavy usage with WiFi on all day, but I'm sort of wary. I'm worried that the 300mAh extra won't make up for the transition from S4 Pro to Tegra 3.

Yep it is true, the main reason i think is this, you dont NEED to know how much bat your screen is using as every time you look at your phone and turn the screen on, it will be using some bat and all, TBH i like NOT having it there now as it shows a lot more of what IS using your bat

Dear xda community,
I've had my xperia z ultra for almost a week and I'm loving it. I notice I can get quite a lot of hours of screen time, always above 3:30 hours, which I think is a lot better than my s4. Anyway, I have updated to the latest firmware .475 and am very happy they resolved super sensitive touch screen. However I am still having this power drain issue. Please look at the pictures I have attached. It seems like android system uses a lot of battery. I know this is normal if phone is sleeping but I think this is too much.
Any ideas or possible solutions?

Try installing GSAM battery monitor if you haven't tried it yet.
Then you can compare your stats and data against other users Z Ultra's performance and judge, whether your unit is unique or not.
If you look into which apps are preventing your stamina mode (if u are using it, I do not know) activating, thus using system resources all the time despite the fact that your screen is off and assumed idling, you'll know what to do and how to take things forward from there.
Apps that need to send and receive data tend to be the culprit. Also some task killers tend to use unnecessary resources too...

Try remove your micro sd card and see the difference. I had my z ultra for 1.5 month and it got hot every 3-4 days until it fried and couldn't reginize my SIM card. So I went to exchanged for a new one, as soon as I insert my SIM card and micro sd card, the phone started to get hot again and battery discharged fast. Since I haven't download apps I figured it has to be the sd card, so I removed it and restarted the phone and it cooled down and worked like normal ever since.

You'd enjoy using the HTC One X then, normal use it easily reaches 42ºc, extended use and/or heavy use can see the phone reach 55ºc so for me, that's a welcome change.

I think that would be a reasonable assumption.
I guess the only question is whether it's a deal breaker or not.
Does increased temperature effect battery life at all?
I noticed this happening recently but on rare occassions. It gets hot right where the camera is located but I'm not sure if it is related to the camera or some other app. I know that it overheats when recording 4K videos over 3 minutes. The quick fix when it heats up is to restart the device so to me it is definitelty software realted.
Mine gets warm, but not got enough to be a problem so far. I'm in the UK.

Coming from the Galaxy Note 2, when my phone got warm it indicated that there was a problem. Maybe since this is part of the design, with the waterproofing at all, I'll just have to learn to accept that the phone will get a little warm.
On the plus side, it'll be good for the winter, to warm up the hands

Most definitely.
Well i can asure you that all snapdragon 800 soc overheat and it depends on what you do,my curent device lg G2 when i bought it,it had jellybean on it whne browsing web listening to music etc it always got hot,but when plating games it was a very big overheating ,the procesor got up to 72`C ad baterry was on 42`C and i thought it was a problem with the phone but after updating to kitkat all problems with overheating where gon even in graphinc intense games it took the phone 30 minutes to heat up significantly + on a side note the battery got a lot better i managed 4 hours and 36 minutes of screen time.
Botom line its a software problem coupled with the nano coting(it blocks heat but not in a bad way that the phone will overheat from that maybe a 5`C block).
Overheating is the reason I didn't get the G2.
It overheated doing basic stuff.
It can't be fixed by software. LG certainly didn't release a fix, so don't expect one for the Z2.
When a phone has overheating problems then it will always have it, just like a laptop or any other hardware.
You'll have to deal with it.

Well not really my m7 used to get warm / hot with 3g or gaming up to 42c after sense 6 it refuses to go above 35c and when gaming up to 39c , so far only known phone that doesn't get hot is the m8. Imo it's tolerable for z2 to stay warmer then other devices , glass isn't the best option for cool phone + sealed phone due water resistance.
Btw yes warm / hot phones have shorter battery life due heat issues , warmer battery = faster discharge rate.
Imo if z2 gets hot only when gaming it's fine, all phones get warm but if it's crossing 37/38c up to 40+ on WiFi and normal usage I'd call that a problem. You can forget the gaming if this is the case lol , at least stable gaming without fps loss and throttle.
The overheating when using the camera is a bit of a concern, especially since that was one of the main reasons i bought the phone.
Is it definitely software related or hardware?
As if its software i can wait for a fix, but if its hardware then i'll need to swap phones
After reading other device forums seems like all the Snapdragon 800/801 devices have the overheating issue: SGS5, Z2, G2, etc.
I think it's because the new SoC is so powerful that it generates a lot of heart, especially when gaming.
Maybe the 805 will fix this. Not gonna buy a device with 800/801 because almost all of them have overheating issues.
