[Q] Urgent help 9\(phn maybe corrupted) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

the issue started when the phn was exposed to a little rain.. started having the issue of over voltage.. i knew that the usb port had become faulty so reading the forums i tried cleaning it with aftershave as i did not have alcohol .. after that turning on my phn it went crazy into car mode and battery was 1 percent. after that it rebooted into download mode . now i have it on charge but it only boots in download mode .. any suggetion ?

Aftershave contains oils which *may* be conductive. You need to thoroughly clean the phone which will probably involve taking it apart.
But before you do any of that.......REMOVE THE BATTERY.....while the phone is powered up with who knows what shorting.....the chances are high that other damage is occurring.......
my wife says I'm a phone geek....
I'd have to agree......

thnx for ur quick reply buddy. well i did take it apart but not all, did remove the battery and did clean it thoroughly after i kept it on charge for about 5 mins and reseted it its now turned on and charging i hope for the best now hope its not a major motherboard short circuit type issue

now after 4 percent of charging it suddenly said battery disconnected and battery health unspecified battery icon started flashing now this is getting weired

Replace the USB board for starters. If that doesn't fix it & you've had the phone for ages, you're probably better off getting another phone rather than replacing motherboards/etc.

well heres an update took the battery out and let the port dry a little and also used a tissue and then plugged the charger and it worked fine till it charged fully and theres no more over voltage issue will update if it continues. Thnx for all ur help guys u know it human nature to get desperate for something they love so much suddenly die

[Q] How to fix battery over voltage?

My battery's been on the fritz for the last days now. Whenever I turn my GS2 off, it will shows tha battery charging screen, then flash to another icon that shows a battery, exclamation mark in a yellow triangle, and a thermometer. It had to plug the charger in to get it to turn on, even though battery was at 100%.
So, I decided to download Battery Doctor to check my batter stats, and it says 'Health: Over Voltage'.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be much appreciated.
I have exactly the same problem. I have not found a sollution, am thinking of calling samsung and explaining the situation. I will post here if i have a sollution.
What OS version are you running?
What Kernel version are you running?
What carrier (if any) did you purchase the phone through?
I'm on 2.3.3 (KE7), using Chainfire's kernel. Phone is carrier unlocked, unbranded from clove.co.uk.
Btw, I think I may have fixed it. I discharged the battery and used a charger with a lower voltage output to get it fully charged. (Charger I used if from my spare phone, a Samsung Champ). It now says that my battery health is good.
Now, the problem is that my phone won't stay powered off when I turn it off. It will stay off for 1-2 secs and power back on. Even if I remove the battery, the phone will power on after i place the battery back without me touching the power button.

I have the exact problem. Is the battery health still good? I would like to fix this by myself and not send it in and be without my GS2 for that time.
You should try this:
1. be sure, that your battery is full (charging over night)
1. run the app battery calibrator
2. unplug charger
3. drain battery all the way down till it shuts off
In this way your phone can remember what is 100 % and what is 0%
My sgs2 shows 4,194 V at 100 %
I think your stats (look into battery calibrator) said that 100% are for example 3,8 V
PS: You need root permissions
---------- Post added at 04:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ----------
Please post us your current voltage.
I have this exact problem. Battery Calibration is pointless, we all know that.
Did anyone ever find out if this is fixable, or do I have to contact Samsung for a replacement?
It's quite annoying that I can't turn off my phone, it just powers on after about 2 seconds. In addition, I never know how much juice I have left in the battery as the reported capacity can jump from 90% down to 6% in an instant. After a reboot it might go up to 12% but I can still use the phone for hours without it shutting down...
Yeah
I've been having the same problems as all above...
Galaxy S2 on Sensation rom, but its not the rom, i flashed to another and the problem still remains...
It all started with phantom charging...(charging when the charger is not even plugged in and constantly making the "charger connected" sound)
I got the phantom charging fixed by cleaning the charger port with a cotton bud and some cleaning alcohol...But now i have overvoltage...
And just like the others, it'll stay on for example 100% and if you reboot its suddenly on under 10% and slowly works its way up to 20 or 30% without even being charged.
I'm assuming the battery got messed up during phantom charging, in tthis case calibration doesnt help, nor does flashing another rom. Flashing another rom leaves the phone stuck in MTP mode therefore unable to use it as a flash drive.
A vid on youtube reccomends replacing the part of the circuit board to which the charger port is attached and as well as the battery at the same time as the battery always gets messed up with the overvoltage issue....
When i have overvoltage i cannot charge even when its under 10%, unless i leave the charger in and reboot the phone it will then charge once it comes back on and it even says GOOD HEALTH until i unplug the charger.
I'd really like a definite solution to the overvoltage issue...
Bump!
Did anyone find an answer to this problem? Mine has started exhibiting the same behaviour. I haven't been able to search out any solutions...
Cheers, PF.
EDIT: Whoops! Just realised I'd better change that signature to SGS2-able. lol
I am also seeing the same issue for the past 3-4 days, I have switched off the phone and took out the battery, planning to visit samsung support center.
I hard rebooted the phone(which reset it to factory) that did'nt help.
will update once I get more info/help from Samsung support.
Vikas
i had the same problem as you guys and i fixed it by cleaning the contacts on the phone where you connect the charger. use some cotton buds and a needle and some alcohol and clean all the contacts at the bottom of the phone (usb cable slot).
make sure phone is turned off tho whilst doing it. that fixed my over voltage issue.
Hi Guys,
I went to Samsung Mobile Support Center today, they told me that USB mini port has turned slightly green, which means that it has in contact with Water
this will not be covered under warranty and might need to be replaced with charges
Tomorrow they will tell me the exact cost.
I still believe, its not an issue of Power port but with the battery port.
will update if I am able to get it solved.
It's a problem with your usb charging port. The only way to truly fix it is to have the charging port plus circuit board replaced. Happened to me a week back and I tried virtually everything- stock roms, removed root, replaced batteries etc. None of that worked. Some posts said it was a port problem. Went to a tech guy I knew and he confirmed the issue when he disconnected the port. It was relatively cheap for me to fix but some people have climed that samsung charges a large amount to fix it. You're better off trying to get it fixed on your own. If you're on warranty, try and claim it.
Also alot of people are having this issue- yours is about the 5th topic I've seen about this problem this week
Hi Guys,
My problem is solved. Samsung support replaced charging port and the chip it was in(total cost 650/- INR, about 13$)
now phone is working as before.
i have the same problem on my gs2, so can i fixed this problem by cleaning the mini usb port?

Cleaning the usb port will/might help with phantom charging , but not overvoltage.....
For Overvoltage you may need to replace the whole USB port part of the circuit board (easily obtainable on EBAY) and you have to replace the battery at the same time as well cause the battery (also easily obtainable off ebay) gets damaged with the overvoltage problem.
I have ordered both about a week ago, awaiting 3 weeks for it to arrive to my country.
Good luck with that...
Theres videos on youtube of how to do the repair for overvoltage yourself...
Will report back here if circuit replacement worked for me...

When you open your s2 for the first time it is tough, but after that it is very easy...
I have already opened mine before to replace the loudspeaker, so it is now easy for me.
Heres the video of how to open your s2:

Heres the video of how to replace the charger port circuit:
youtube.com/watch?v=aChzv3IzxsU
(or do a YOUTUBE search for "Galaxy S2 USB Flex Cable Replacement ")
This video also has comments that explain the cause of this problem...!!!!!!!!!!
That is the part you need to replace, the USB FLEX CABLE...(its the ribbon cable and the board, but they call it a flex cable)
Hope they help you.

[Q] SGS2 strange bug

Hey all,
After being fine for almost 12 months, my phone has suddenly developed a bug. Nothing has changed over the last 24hrs, so I am not sure where it has come from.
It started with a notification saying 'activating USB will turn bluetooth off. Continue?'
There was nothing plugged in to the USB at the time, so I'm not sure why it came up.
I clicked 'NO' but it kept happening constantly until I reset the phone. Then when I turned the phone back on, the battery overheat sign came up. It clearly wasn't running hot, but it only went away after I removed the battery.
Then this morning after I unplugged my phone from the charger it said it was still on charge and the 'battery full' notification wouldn't go away. So I reset my phone, and again the overheat sign comes on. Take battery out.....etc.
Now it is telling me that it is on charge (it isn't) and that USB device notification.
Phone is running 2.3.6. Any ideas?
Possible USB port malfunction. Maybe try cleaning it.
Sent from my GT-I9100T
Second that.Clean the port with a cotton bud and cleaning alcohol.
Is Metho ok to use?
I might look up how to take the phone apart and give the insides a proper clean, rather than just poking around the port.
I'll await an answer about the metho before I give it a crack.
Thanks for the replies.
You dont have to take the phone apart
Quite a few people have had problems with dirt in the USB port its caused problems similar to and exactly like yours. All they have done is gone to the chemist,or pharmasy or however its spelt and for a few bucks you can buy cleaning alcohol. It must be this kind because of its high alcohol level it drys quickly and doesnt leave moisture inside when done.A few gentle wipes and thats all it needs.Dont take the phone apart cos the port is closed and it will be of no use.Meth is heavy and will leave alot behind drowning the port again.

Dropped phone into water, weird battery issue

Hi,
So as the title say, my battery act very weird.
At first, it refused to charge through the charger. Took out battery and waited 10 min, then it charge, until 100%, unplug charger, and it still charging , never stop.
Took out battery again, waited 10 min, put it in, battery charging icon appear on screen with the little yellow triangle inside, cannot turn on phone. Then I plug charger in, now I can turn on the phone, but battery level now show 80% and notification : charging paused, voltage too high.
Could someone help me?
Thanks
P/s: It was happened last night, leave it over night and I can use the phone normally this morning though.

Oh. Good. Lord.
10 min is NOT ENOUGH TIME to let the thing dry after you dropped the whole thing into water. You probably screwed the pooch on this one.
If the phone is dropped in water, most people recommend taking the phone apart and putting all pieces into a bag full of uncooked rice and silica packages for at least a few (preferably up to 5) DAYS before attempting to reconnect battery.
Because you've reattached battery already after less than 1 hour TWICE, I'm betting you have shorted your mainboard beyond all repair.
Water + electronics isn't necessarily the kill factor. Water + electronics + electrical current (connected battery) BEFORE DRY = dead electronics.
You should leave the battery out of the SGS and put both in a bag with much rice or cat litter some days in a bag. No hair dryer or something like this.
It wasn't a good idea to connect the loader and to leave the battery in the mobile.
I have a friend with exactly the same problem, his daughter put the GS2 phone into water and then he put the battery out for ONE night only... now the phone says is charging when it's unplugged and sometimes the "car mode" activates by his own (i don't even know how to activate the car mode on my GS2) ....
we started to think that the problem will stay forever

You got lucky if yours isn't showing any ill effects after such a short dry time. Yours is an exception.

Well, i did have the same selfactivates problem like you for few min,It even turn it on after i put the battery in, without any action. But it gone now. The problem is that it keep saying charging and the notification keep pop up. I can overcome it by install AOKP or CM9 Rom which dont have that kind of notification. But still, my concern is how long can it take till it really dead?...

Start looking for a new phone now.
If you already shorted it, it's not going to go away. Electronics don't just heal themselves over time.
A repair shop may be able to replace parts with shorted components, but if many have shorts, it may not be worth it to fix, and may end up being more expensive to fix than to replace.
You should have left the phone to dry atleast for a solid 24 hours in a rice bag!
I put my old Sony Ericsson in the washing machine once (was in a pair of shorts) lol.
Of course I don't expect it to work... but I opened it up and took out battery etc... left it out to dry in the sun for few minutes (making sure it doesn't get too hot), then put in a nice dry place with dehumidifier. After a couple of days it worked again.
Now that is just lucky and it probably wouldn't last for long... but luckily I was going to buy a new phone at the time anyways.
Moral of the story... phones, or any electronics, are not waterproof unless stated that they are. You have to be more careful people... or get something like Invisible Shield.
do you think that the problem will go away if I got a new battery ??

How can you be confused about this? The issue is a short on one of the electronic components in the phone. Probably the mainboard. Getting a new battery won't address that.
Why not bring it in to some service center (or even some night market telephone tech guys) and have them check it out? Then they can tell you what needs replacing or if you're better off getting a new phone.

battery deep discharged

Hello friends ,
My moto E was dropped a bit in water not completely i checked at that moment the device was wokring fine but then too , to avoid risk i packed the device in plastic cover and kept in rice overnight.
But next day the mobile isnt starting. Wen i plugged to usb only the while led on the top right is showing. I tried all the options of power volume combinations..
Can anyone tell if there is any others steps or things to be checked before taking it to service center,, :crying::crying:
If you're sure it has dried up (but it would have been much better to remove the battery... it's just a few Torxes and a connector away), try leaving the charger plugged in for a day or so: I don't know about the Moto E but many phones have "emergency charging", that is the battery is connected directly to +5 with a strong resistor so it can very slowly get to 1% to boot offline charging!
Assuming of course the battery control chip didn't see a short or overdischarge, in which case [this chip] is effectively hard bricked...

OK SIR I will try this and confirm if its working very soon:good:
Ok friends finally my device is back to life.. I just want to share how and what happened..
Firstly I dropped my device in fish tank. So in order to dry up my device i just switched off and kept it in rice for entire whole day. But the only problem was that battery isn't removable. Next day thinking the water must have dried so i tried switching on but nothing working. I tried all the things mentioned everywhere in internet power volume combinations but nothing worked.. I thgt either the display got bad due to water or battery died.. Then i read something about moto devices that if the battery get discharged completely then it enters deep discharge mode.. i did some research here and some other sites.. Finally i found a video of MOTO G device which got deep discharge..
So here what the guy did.. He removed the battery using torx T4 screwdriver which i needed to order bcoz i didnt had it.. once the battery is removed from device wait for 5 mins then connect the charger to device without connecting battery.. Display starts hurray.. now keeping the charger connected connect the battery to device and finally the charging starts.. keep for charging and device is alive..

Water Damage/ F1 Wont charge when turned on

Firstly I'd like to say that I stupidly dropped my phone in a bowel of water yesterday.
Following this ,I immediately turned the phone off, blew into the charging port to hopefully remove any water. and left it standing overnight. Then in the morning plugged it in to charge , which worked.
The following day (today) my phone will not charge when turned on, only charging when turned off.
I have tried multiple chargers, restarting the phone, holding the lock and volume button for 15 seconds and starting in fast boot mode, ect.
I am not sure what to do, possibly I need to get a new charging port and replace it myself, or with aid from a friend.
I cant find anything online regarding the issue with USB C phones, all of the instructions were for mini usb phones and they suggested bending the pins back into place in the phone, not sure if this s any help with USB C.
Should i leave the phone to stand in rice, over night, should I open it up and lightly apply a heat gun to it to evaporate any water in the phone, should I replace the charging port ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, not sure if this is the right place to ask,
-side note, I dont need anyone telling me i'm an idiot for dropping the phone in water, I already know this to be true.

Hi Narayanan
Thanks for your response, I will try doing this tonight.
Regarding the ROM, I am not familiar with the process, Is there a way I can backup my Phone and system settings ect, and then do this.
How does one install their ROM again, is it simply a factory reset ?
I am a newbie to these things,
-Kind regards

Thankfully I had twrp installed and had a latest firmware inside . So I reflashed my rom again .
You try factory reset . Hopefully it will work.
