You can try manually install scripts but if you want to install it using .zip files you have to install CWM. I guess you didn't unlock bootloader so you should try this cwm for locked bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095825

[Q] CWM recovery

I rooted my samsung galaxy I9300 international version recently. However, after root, when i open CWM recovery , i get the following message " this version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM v1.1 or newer. It appears you r running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled".. what is this supposed to mean? will it cause any problem when i flash a custom rom? or when i create a backup of the stock rom? any help would be appreciated
Many thanks

R: [Q] CWM recovery
What u need to do is install "rom manager" from app store (its official app dont worry) and install the LATEST clockworkmod recovery version for your phone. After youve done that just boot in recovery and ull have the very latest recovery so flash all you want and ull be fine.

You can't just flash the cm rom again?? Why didn't u back up your cm rom with an app. It would have made switching roms a lot easier

Once on Cm 10.1, you will then have access to TWO different CWM's. If on P769 one should be mirrored and if installed thru Artas's apk, it will be normal. The apk runs off of Bootstrap and will act as if bootloader is locked due to this. The mirrored CWM runs of off unlocked bootloader and will NEED to be used to flash CM 10.1 while both can be used to flash backups or stock ICS or JB ROM. The tricky thing is the mirrored CWM runs off of P760 mount points and you will need hope, luck, and a prayer to find your files Personally I used adb push and adb restore when all else fails. Mirrored CWM power off phone and HOLD volume UP plus home button, Artas's apk: PRESS volume down when you see the flashing lights

[P760] CWM flasher

Hey guys, I thought I'd just share this here, since I havent seen anything like this around here.
It is a package containing a script to flash either the touch or non-touch version of CWM via adb commands.
I took the script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477022&page=3
I just added our CWM file and changed the script accordingly. I take no credit for all this and all of it goes back to my bros over at my old P970 forum. They literally tought me everything I know about Android.
Touch CWM: http://d-h.st/9JY
non-Touch CWM http://d-h.st/nmR
Works great for me and does, what it needs to do. You need root & of course and unlocked bootloader for this to work.
It will automatically flash CWM to our recovery partition.
It also contains a script, that reboots your device to recovery. This will allow you to directly check, if it worked, or not. BUT CAUTION!!!!!
If the recovery has not been installed, it will simply make a factory reset!
If you have questions, go ahead. If not, have fun using it

Hey don't flash those (if you get the bootloader unlocked), they are NOT for the P769 or LGMS769. It will mess up the touch screen.

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question, fully. I know only a couple of the official recoveries work. I believe 760 V20B works, but it's a pain to work with. I think ice 10g for 769 works.
Now about the boot.img ?
If you are trying to say that only the p760 boot.img causes problems (touch screen), you are mistaken. Anyways thanks for modifying those scripts

Well the way the op recommends it is:
1 - Copy recovery.img to root of SDCard
2 - Open Terminal Emulator (or adb shell) with root and run the following command-
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
3 - Reboot
But I don't know if that would work in all cases/haven't tried, the other way to flash it is by getting into fastboot mode via adb or something and using following commands:
-fastboot erase recovery
-fastboot flash recovery recovery.omg

Did you manage to do it?
I needed to update too, similar thought process. Wondering whether i can flash this *.img using Flashify. I also made a backup of my stock recovery.img before I installed TWRP, could that be used either?
And most importantly, was the OTA update smooth after you got stock recovery back?
Worst case scenario, no TWRP recovery & unable to boot...
