Hey, guys. I have a protection plan through best buy and just got my Thunderbolt back. They gave me a stock refurbished one, but this poses a few problems. Since the ICS update rolled out, I guess they pulled the OTA gingerbread update. And I'm not able to update straight to ICS, either. If I check for available software update, it says that there is none available.
So basically, I'm stuck on Froyo. Is there anyway I can somehow update to Gingerbread so that I can OTA update to ICS? I don't care that it's stock, I don't care that it might be difficult to root the new update at the time being. Or even just update straight from Froyo to ICS somehow?
I would even be satisfied with just a Gingerbread update. Froyo is way outdated and it's a pretty big step backwards. (Just before my old TB broke, it received the OTA ICS update.)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Currently running HTC Thunderbolt
Android 2.2.1
Software Number- 1.70.605
If you need any more information, feel free to ask.
Thank you very much.
Yeah download and run the gingerbread ruu. Make sure you keep your froyo version totally stock. Once you're on gingerbread run the all in one tool to root, unlock and s off. Then flash the ICS radios and the official ota. If you don't want to root the just flash the gingerbread ruu and let it take the ota.

Is there somewhere I can find the RUU? Android police had links but all of the mirrors were dead. :/
Also, can you link me to somewhere that shows how to actually apply the gingerbread RUU? I've never dealt with this kind of thing before.

Preferably, yes.
This might sound stupid, but would I be able to just root my phone via revolutionary and then flash santod040's debloated version? I've used revolutionary on previous devices and it was very simple, but does it matter that I'm on Froyo?

I am currently having issues trying to do this. I tried ro change liquid ICS to the debloated version of the ICS OTA but It never worked out for me and the phone kept flashing blue screen and then rebooting or turning off. So I tried to unroot and convert back to stock but now when i try to install the new ICS rom i get the same problem with the screen turning blue within 2 minutes of starting and the rebooting or shutting off.
I cant OTA because I dont have a sim card that fits in my TB after i got my note2.

Sounds like you skipped the "You must install the ICS Radios/Baseband first" part of the install steps in the OTA thread OP.
You will continue to get a blue screen until you do so.
Hello, Im pretty new when it comes to rooting/custom recoveries on Android. Today I got the notification that AT&T had a software update so naturally I grabbed it. I re-booted the phone but loaded into TWRP and the update didn't take. I researched a little and came to find out that you can't do OTA updates if you're running custom recoveries. My question now is what's the best way for me to get it? Im running the stock rom from HTC, I'm just rooted and have no desire to run any custom roms at this time (Such as Cyanogen or the like). I've looked around and seen a few .12 custom stock roms, but I've also seen the leaked .ruu file. Not sure how to proceed in terms of getting the update installed. All I really want it is the updated firmware along with my current root access. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty noobish when it comes to this.
Best way is if you are stock rooted now is to flash the stock . 12 rooted that scrosler posted. You can flash without wiping if you want

Thanks for your help, I'll grab that. Just wasn't sure if there was a difference or not...will flashing with a program like ROM manager not wipe the phone?
Just flash from recovery. It doesn't wipe anything

No it's not hard at all, but as I said I'm not looking for any custom roms..simply wanted to remain stock with the latest firmware upgrade. Not sure if the the leaked .ruu that came out a week or so ago would accomplish this or not.

no your phone will not pass the update check
Even though I have the update file already have the update zip? Sorry, I'm incredibly new to android and don't really know how the ota updates function. I just hate to flash a whole Rom for a 20 mb update.

why? the space it will take up on the phone will be the same.
Update OTA's aren't structured like rom's that are packaged for custom recoveries.
Update OTA's also check to make sure the necessary parts are already on the phone so they only update the changed files. If you have altered your device in any way, the OTA will fail. This is a good thing. Less support calls from users whose updates fail.
Freshly pulled from my OTA-updated device and built as-is from stock.
Only thing I did was add su binary to allow root access. Didn't even install SuperSU (you can do that from the Play Store).
DOWNLOAD
I'm deodexing currently and will upload that version shortly as well.
DOWNLOAD - Deodexed
I'll also upload my rooted version of the OTA file (with firmware removed) which will allow you to flash the OTA with TWRP (but ONLY if your device has zero modifications to /system). You'll have to flash the boot.img through fastboot, which I will attach to this post (this version is signed, straight from the firmware zip).
Rooted OTA only Download
Confused about what this is, or what to flash? See this post by barleysoda which explains it very well.
Link is live, folks. If someone would be kind enough to make sure it actually works, I'd appreciate it .
Thanks captain!!
Downloading now. Thanks Captain!
Works for me. Thank you!
Deodexed version, and Rooted OTA now up as well. Go to town, lol .
Not that there's any reason to update to this version. A few minor changes are doubtful to have much of an effect. The firmware *might* make a difference, but that's in a different thread .
Sorry for the n00b questions, but:
What is the difference between the first link and the third link?
Is the boot.img required for all?
Thanks!

1st and 2nd links are full stock rooted ROMs. 3rd link is the OTA only, which will require the boot image to be flashed additionally. You have to be on stock 3.16 software for that to work, as it says.

Sorry, I'm used to just flashing the new nightly builds straight on AOSP.
Right now, I'm stock rooted, so I'd go for the 3rd one, right?
You can try it, I guess. But you'll have to flash the boot.img too, as I said. If it doesn't work just flash one of the full ROMs.
Did the update come with a new radio? If so can I have a link to it? Thanks. I updated through the bootloader. It asked me if I wanted to update once I put out pin my external sd card and renamed it. It said successful. But my radio didn't change.

To update the phone. I'd like to update the radios, and do I NEED to be on a stock Rom, instead of Bareback or a modified stock rom like SuperJelly, to update?
There seem to be 3 things to download, the Rooted OTA, the boot.img, and the radios on your MikMik page.
God I hate these OTA updates. Such a hassle, every damn time, but I want to have the latest updates.
And to try to prevent any further drop down the rabbit hole, I am s-off.

If you want to update your radios, hit up Captain's firmware thread in development and follow the instructions for updating. If you want the stock rooted ROM, download one of the stock rooted ROM's from this thread (the first two links). The ROM zips don't contain the new firmware, which is why you'll have to update that separately.

So my dna is s-off and rooted via moonshine (purchased used already like this)
Twrp recovery is installed and the ota is failing!!
I have searched for hours on how to return back to stock and find great info and I still don't understand it (obviously a newb)..
One thing I have installed on my windows 7 pc is the dna toolkit (will this get me back to stock?).
Can anyone point me to the most basic route to achieve this?
My wife thinks I'm crazy with the amount of time I have invested in trying to resolve this issue
Thanks, Matt
This may be a whole lot quicker of a resolution...
But you need a completely stock rom and recovery to take an OTA.
An OTA will not apply in a custom recovery.
None of the stock roms previously posted were clean enugh to accept the OTA that I could find.
So you would either have to use the decrypted RUU, take 5 OTA's and eventually get where you are going.
Or use the link I provided which is a clean enough base that it will allow OTA's to flash if desired in the future.(with stock recovery loaded)

You have to have recovery installed so you can flash his rom, so yes, you need to root it first, use moonshine method, then install on your phone something like flash img gui or even twrp, then get the twrp img. and flash it to your phone. After twrp is installed(after reboot into normal phone) you can download his rom to your phone and flash it using twrp again, it'll reboot into recovery automatically and install the rom .

Q&A for AT&T Stock Backups, Recoveries, OTAs and Radio IMGs
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for AT&T Stock Backups, Recoveries, OTAs and Radio IMGs. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
When i resturned to stock. I only flash the stock recovery at rom. And i dont the radio. What radio does? Do i still need to flash it?
Little explanations needed !!!
Hi guys, just joined this HUGE community where you can find almost everything you need for your satisfaction:good: !
But since i`m noobie would appreciate some assistance in explaining how to unlock my M8,and install Android Revolution HD ROM !!!
I spent like 5 hours yesterday reading all kind`a info about how, where, why etc ... and the more i read, the more confused i got
Things i got to find out about my M8 = *software statusfficial* *Locked* HBoot-3.19.0.0000 Radio-1.22.30306251.27G CidNum- HTC__Y13 Version Main - 3.33.401.6
So the things i`m clearly too dumb to understand is STEPS from A-Z ,to get Android Revolution HD over Original(full with crap )ROM !?!
Would appreciate if some smart developer could explain step by step what should i do first, and what last... should i get S-off first,or should i unlock it first,or make it bootable ...as i told, i read so many info ,and got rally confused about all that process :silly:
Sorry for my bad english ,and tnx in advance for all who cared to shine some knowledge in my darkness

This forum section is specifically for the AT&T version of the M8, which your phone is not.

But all you need to do to install ARHD on your phone is unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.com, install custom recovery and flash the ROM.

Its not clear what you are trying to do, or what your current configuration is. The radio is the software that makes your phone work on the cell network.
If you did not specifically flash the radio (s-off required) its still on some stock radio. Although it might not correspond to the software (main version or OS) version you are on, since its also not clear what software you are on.

AT&T is a carrier in the US. If you didn't know what it meant, then you shouldn't have posted here.
If you don't know an abbreviation, than look it up. There are a variety of threads that already explain what you are asking about, or just Google for it. Here is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52484527

This is discussed in a great many places. Euro firmware and instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282
US Dev Edition firmware here (included with WNC's ROM): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
Assume you are on AT&T, since this forum section is specific to the AT&T version. Note that Euro ROMs may create some network issues on AT&T (most prominent of which is LTE issues with Google services). The best combo for AT&T is WNC's ROM and the matching firmware.

What did you try to flash ("couldn't get anything to work" doesn't' tell us a thing)? And what was the result?

your right i should be more specific. i went under the firmware section for the revolution rom and downloaded the firmware (3.32.531.2.zip). Now learning that this is euro rom and not att specific rom i guess the firmware i installed had nothing to do with att. the result didnt change. it was as if i flashed the rom without the firmware again. everything worked fine just no wifi. Before doing any of that i did a backup with twrp with just stock settings. right now im rooted and s-off. Looking into the rom you suggested and reading before i do anything. Its quite confusing this go around for me not too sure why.
appreciate everyones help though ! :good:
Backup your files [email protected] pics music etc, change cid and run the 3.28.1540.5 ruu, this is the same device(att variant) as us developer edition, will put you to latest compatable firmware and enable you to run any 4.4.4 builds out.

Did you flash the firmware with fastboot, following the instructions from the first link I supplied?
I think you are doing something wrong, which is probably why WNC is suggesting the RUU (which is a executable, and pretty much self-running).

yes i flashed the firmware with fastboot. i read both those posts before attempting even watched a few vids to make sure i did everything correct. However i think i am just going to go with WNC rom. i honestly had no idea there were euro roms and att specific roms. I figured everything in the att section was att specific. live and learn

What is your current hboot and radio numbers (both are displayed in bootloader).
Also, you often have to flash the firmware zip twice in order for all the modules to install.
Connect phone to computer with fastboot in power settings turned off, open a command prompt navigate to your adb/fastboot location and run adb reboot bootloader, once phone reboots it will connect to fastbootusb ,once this is established run this command fastboot oem writecid BS_US001then run fastboot reboot-bootloader,once this is done can run the ruu from fastboot connection.

The hboot and radio numbers indicate you are on the latest firmware. If you did in fact flash the firmware twice, I would be confidant the firmware is all properly installed. I would try either:
1) Flash the desired ROM again after wiping data, cache and Dalvik
2) RUU as WNC suggests
3) Try WNC's ROM with corresponding firmware
