So I'm trying to learn a little more about exactly what all these terms really mean, but when I was reading a guide about rooting the Huawei U8650 (Sonic), the first step was to flash the phone with the original ROM.
Now with all the big terms used and all the disclaimers about bricking your phone, I was just wondering what exactly this does. I currently plan to flash my Huawei U8651T (aka T-Mobile Prism) with the original ROM for Huawei U8650 because from what I've read, they are the same phone, except the U8651T has some tech upgrades compared to the U8650, so I just wanted to know exactly what would I be doing to my phone and what potential problems may arise.
Thanks
Edit: Here's the guide I was reading (Can't post the link, but here it is copy-pasted)
To root U8650 you should flash it with original Rom, Spanish devices dont need original rom to root dont know why it is but it is
ROM
It is necessary to download an official ROM
LINK
After you download it unrar it and dload folder copy to memory card
Path should look like \ dload \ update
to flash device you need to
turn it off
remove the battery for 5 seconds
put the battery back in
press the buttons "VOL +" + "VOL-" + "ON" (all three keys at once)
and will start automatic firmware upgrade
for 3-4 minutes cell is debranded
If you get error not found firmware that means that you did not put the firmware on the SD card like you should (I got it a few times) just off the device and repeat the procedure.
root
After flashing unbranded firmware we can throw at root
software needed for the root LINK
This is similar to debranding.
download root file
Put it on SD card
turn off the phone
remove the battery for 3 seconds
Press "VOL +" + "ON" (without the vol-)
When you open the "bios like" menu use the volume keys up/down to select the update from memory card called root
after this procedure just reboot the phone and you have rooted phone

Well …….. Foremost, my English is not good. :silly:
I know that many users of Dell Venue has to upgrade to MIUI or CM7 version, because Dell doesn’t provide the upgrades for this device, but there are many complains for bothersome issues, for example the “MUTE” on the phone calls and recording on CM7 and MIUI is the worse issues ever.
…
Here I will to explain how revert back to froyo your Dell Venue. I spend many hours on it, because I am super newbie, even now there is steps unnecessaries for knowledgeable people.
This process can be the same for Stock Froyo or Stock Gingerbread (yeah, Gingerbread 2.3.3, TheManii uploaded 3 versions from Olleh on the XDA Wiki).
I recommend the Stock Froyo Thunder 325, because is the most recent Retail Version Froyo for Dell Venue and it has not issues with MMI codes from Occidentals Communications Companies. If you want another version you can Download from the XDA Wiki.
Files required:
Drivers for Dell Venue (ADB_Tethering_Driver.rar & DRIVERS_DELL_VENUE_-_R291096.rar)
Compatible Stock Recovery (recovery.img)
Froyo 2.2.2 (Thunder_325_17232_00.pkg)
MultiRecoveryFlasher.v.0.5.1.rar
Process:
1. Install the drivers to your PC, if you don’t have it of course and restart.
2. Put the Thunder_325_17232_00.pkg into your SD (the root directory of the sd, be sure to erase another pkg files or any extensions files, every file except the folders) and rename it to: “update.pkg” and turn off the phone.
3. Set your phone on Fastboot. (Turn off the phone, Move Ringer to Up position, press volume down and the power bottom at the same time, hold both until the dell logo disappear and only shows a white line in the middle of your phone that says “Entering fastboot MODE”).
4. Connect your phone to the PC and wait to windows configure the new drivers, when it finishes your phone will show a yellow on mode2.
5. Extract the "MultiRecoveryFlasher.v.0.5.1.rar" on the Desktop, open that folder and copy the compatible "recovery.img" and replace the recovery into one of the folders with recoveries, i suggest you to replace the one in the folder of clockworkmod, because is easier to remember where the recovery was put into.
6. Double click on “MultiRecoveryFlasher.bat” and it will shows a screen with many opcions to push recoveries into the phone.
7. Write CR or the number of the folder you replace the recovery.img on the step number 5, press enter, it shows a short advice text, push enter again.
8. When it finishes the phone will restarts. So press the enter twice and the screen will disappear.
9. When your phone restarts hold quickly the Volume+ and Volume- until the recovery screen appears (not necessary, but is easier than wait for it starts completely and turn off again).
10. Select “SW upgrade from update.pkg”, it will shows a screen with blue letter if you read the shorts instructions you will find out that only need to press the shutter of the camera to start to install the new rom.
11. Congratulations!! Your almost are in froyo, the process from here is automatic, when it finishes the phone will restart and in one minute or two your stock froyo its up.
-------
Ok, now you are into stock froyo only you need to root it again, but you will find out that the SuperOneclicks doesn’t works on your new rom. It apparently happens because Thunder 325 is a release newer than the OneClick method, anyway here the links and try:

**note, if you don’t get success from this method you will need to reinstall the PC drivers of your phone because sometimes these gets corrupted.

Let’s ROOT!
Files:
ClockWorkMod_and_408_Recovery.rar
Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
Process:
1. Put the “Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip” into the root directory of your SD Card.
2. Put your phone into the fastboot (turn off, set the ringer on mute and press Volume down and the Power button at the same time until the wite line appears). Connect the phone to the PC.
3. Extract the “ClockWorkMod_and_408_Recovery.rar” folder on the desktop. Execute the “Install CWM.bat”, and press enter. It will push the CWM recovery to your phone and it will restarts. Press enter again and the screen will disappear.
4. Hold quickly the Volume + and Volume - until the recovery screen appears. Press the “SW upgrade from update.pkg” and you will go into CWM (clock work mod recovery).
5. Press volume + or – to navigate, if you want, "wipe data" and after "wipe cache partition", just in case. **Optional**
6. Now select “Install zip from Sdcard” and after “Choose zip from Sdcard”, with the volume + or – navigate to “Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip” is at the bottom sure.
7. Select it again from the secondary menu that will appears and here you go!
8. When it finish, back to the first menu and select “reboot system now”.
9. Congratulations your are Rooted!!

I did some reading on your behalf, let's try to sort this out. Good news is you can't really brick A10 allwinner devices.
Ideally you would need the original firmware from the manufacturer (.img file) and flash it through livesuit. However, this firmware is no where to be found on their website, I would try to email the device maker to send you the firmware. The email is: [email protected]
1 . Acqure the firmware file from manufacturer
2. Download livesuit (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?lawkcbqhbictar4).
Follow these Instructions to flash .img file through livesuite (I found them elsewhere):
3. Open LiveSuit.exe
Double-click to open the upgrade tool LiveSuit.exe
4.Select the firmware
Click the cube to the far left to select the firmware .img file.
5. Turn off your tablet
6. Press the key combination to start it in the upgrade mode
a. Press the "Vol -" key, then press the "Power" button, hold two buttons at the same time
b. Connect the USB cable to tablet and computer
c. After connecting the USB cable, press the power button 6 times quickly or hold the "Vol -" keys and the "Power" button for more than 6 seconds (you should get a pop up window if done correctly , if not repeat step 5 from beginning)
d. DON'T release the "Vol -" button till the LiveSuit window pops up
e. You can now release the "Vol -" button
(Note: If you install the driver at this time the pop-up dialog box, the path to point to installation directory UsbDriver LiveSuit folder, click Next to complete the driver installation prompts).
You should see LiveSuit window pops up; otherwise, you didn't do it correctly, you have to repeat step 4 and 5.
7. Select the format to force upgrade
Livesuit prompt "force format", click "Yes" (Y). All of the original apps installed will be removed. We highly recommend mandatory format! ! ! Otherwise the update is not complete and may brick! ! !
8. Upgrade begins
Pop-up "OK to force format" dialog box, select "Yes", the upgrade begins.
9. The upgrade is complete
Firmware download process last about three and a half minutes or so, please wait until the prompt "upgrade successful."
10. Automatic restart
After the upgrade is complete, your tablet will automatically restart, then you can unplug the USB cable.
Slow start-up for the first time, please be patient.
If the machine does not restart automatically, press and hold the Power button for 8-10 seconds or more to ensure the power switch off, then press the Power button 3 seconds or more to turn on your tablet.
11. Congratulations! You have flashed the firmware.
If you are not able to acquire the original firmware from manufacturer, you can try to flash this one:
http://www.yarvik.com/userfiles/yarvikfirmware/TAB461EUK_A404.img (funbook pro m500, similar specs and running same processor)
thank u very very much
i do that all but this frimware is not compatible (it show me all thing black)
i still need frimware
i send email for [email protected] but no reply yet
Newbie with i717 Unrooted stock JB. Due to apparent lag issues since updating to JB, I would like to improve performance by installing either Padawan or Stock deodexed_DEBLOAT ROM.
1. What are the differences between the 2 ROMS?
2. Where can I find the detailed steps to follow to install the Padawan ROM?
3. Where can I find the detailed steps to follow to install the deodexed_DEBLOAT ROM?
Go to the development thread. Each rom has instructions on how to flash. GL

I've use the Padawan jb 4.1.2
Its a great ROM. There were still some lag issues that some were experiencing. I did not. Maybe just what you use with it and how. There is also a kernel made just for it allowing over clock(oc) I liked it. Anyway there are a couple other ROMS available. The BlackStar X ( ICS 4.0.4) is a must if you haven't experienced it. Anyway hope this helps a little. Experiment a little....

I flash everything. There is no other way to know what you will like. It's all about how you use the rom. And remember, every phone responds different to different roms, the phone has a mind of its own. I did enjoy the padawan....great rom! Myself, I'm not much into stock roms though....Just have fun! :cyclops:
Stock deodexed debloated is just at&t official JB deodexed and debloate. You can look up the meaning of deodexed and debloated means getting rid of at&t and samsung crap apps.
With Padawan, the dev took the stock rom (probably the deodexed, debloated rom) and made some performance tweaks.
I have used previous versions of Padawan and they have been rock solid and stable. Paired with the custom OC kernel, it may be the best rom option

I have always used Padawan since version 4. Bought my note used, unlocked, rooted, then flashed Padawan.
Never felt the need to try another.

You really never tried any other roms?? That is amazing if it be the case. It is too easy to try the many, many great roms out there, to not do so. IMHO. Backups work wonders so you can go back with little hassle. Just curious.
Thanks to all for your help. i717 is currently UNrooted with stock JB 4.1.2. My plan is to flash either the debloated_deodexed ROM or the Padawan ROM (both of which are pre-rooted) using the following procedure:
1 It is not necessary to Root UNrooted phone before starting this procedure
2 Backup items on internal sd card (phone folder) to external SD or Computer
3 Odin307.zip file - extract 4 files to computer Desktop
4 openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar file - copy to computer Desktop
5 SGH-I717UCMD3_4.1.2_Stock_Deodexed_DEBLOAT.zipfile or Padawan_JB.zipfile - copy to root of External SD Card
6 Unplug phone and power off
7 Open odin3 v3.07.exe on computer desktop and click pda button
8 In pda dialog, browse to desktop and select openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar file, which puts link to twrp file in pda entry area
9 Put phone in download mode - hold vol down button and plug in usb cable
10 At warning screen, push vol up to continue and go to downloading mode
11 On desktop computer see connection under ID:COM (blue highlight) if no connection, may need to install drivers. curser should be blinking in phone entry area
12 To flash recovery, click start - recovery takes just a few seconds resulting in green bar at top left and RESET in blue highlight (& later PASS in green highlight?)
13 Phone will auto reboot - unplug phone after reboot starts (music tones)
14 Wait for phone to completely reboot and then power off phone
15 Push and Hold vol up & down and push power button
16 At Samsung logo, release power button
17 At Teamwin display, Release vol up & down
18 Push backup & with Boot, Data and System boxes checked, swipe to backup (2-3 min)
19 At finish, swipe to unlock
20 Don't reboot system, backup to screen with buttons
21 Select wipe button & swipe to factory reset
22 Select Advanced Wipe (may require backup to prev screen) & then select system and then swipe to wipe
23 Press Back button or backup arrow one or more times to screen with buttons and then select Install button
24 Find ROM File on SD Card: SGH-I717UCMD3_4.1.2_Stock_Deodexed_DEBLOAT.zip (or Padawan_JB.zip)
25 Select the ROM File with finger and then swipe to confirm flash.
26 After Flash, the word Successful should be displayed
27 Select reboot system (If TWRP offers to fix SU, select do not fix) and leave alone for 10 minutes after it boots up
28 Go thru setup process. e.g., when Use Google Location screen appears, select FINISH, etc
29 At home screen select Apps Icon - ATT Smart WFI is there but most other att apps & bloatware are gone. SuperSU is also there
Two Questions:
1. Does my phone have to be rooted BEFORE I begin the above procedure? (Update - not necessary to Root)
2. Are there any apparent errors in the above procedure?

No your phone does not have to be rooted to do all of this. That is by far the BEST and informative procedure I've read. The only thing that is not included in the list is downloading the custom pre-rooted rom onto the sdcard.

I ran padawan but now I'm running debloated. Some reason it runs smoother on my phone

I have tried few other ROM before Padawan, but I like the stability of Padawan.
I am now running Telus official JB and debloated it myself. Padawan JB is AT&T based, and it is missing few things that I am looking for, but Telus has them.
I am just wishing ptmr will do a new version of Nebula, which is like Padawan, but based on Telus.
4.1.2 ends up getting laggy and extremely slow for me...clearing cache and such helps but always goes back ... I've flashed all of them .....4.2.2 is smoother on my device

Good Morning XDA.
My client has the above mentioned Huawei media pad t1 s8 701u. and it is stuck in quite a serious boot loop. I have tried to go into recovery with Volume Down + Power button for 10s and I feel the vibration where after that I let go and just get met with the same boot loop, it is a South African tablet so either XFA/XFE and I was wondering if any of the amazing people here on XDA would be able to assist me in finding a stock firmware to re-flash the poor thing, I know that with many Huawei devices the bootloader is locked but all I want to do is reflash stock firmware to get this unit working again
I have found a site that gives the following instructions:
"1. Make sure you have backed up all your important data. All files, messages, images, videos, contacts etc.
2. Download the .zip file.
3. Unpack it on your Desktop. Copy the dload folder to your SD card’s root directory.
4. Turn off your Huawei. (Make sure your battery has enough power. Charge it if necessary.) Insert the memory card.
5. Press both Volume keys (VOL UP and DOWN) and then the power key until the software upgrade progress bar displays. Then you can release all keys.
6. Wait until the progress bar finishes and the phone restart.
7. Check firmware version in Settings > About phone / build number."
now while the site does post a firmware file I am not sure if it has the right CSC and builds for my home country (South Africa As stipulated above) is there an international/ unlocked firmware file available? if yes could i please be assisted in finding it as my googling has me running in circles now
