Wow...... Back up everything and buy a new phone :-\

U really are a noob, thanks anyway

Its hardware problem. Not software. Re flashing the software will have no use on it. You cant just fix this hardware problem yourself....

Yup, he's right..
If there is an issue with the power key and about its responses.. Then it has nothing to do with the software, it's totally hardware that got corrupted or something..

How long this is going on? maybe it will try up in few days and will be ok.

Happily the power button went back to normal, stuck the phone in to a bowl with rice and left in a warm places Not under direct sunlight for 6 hours and luckily my phone is back to normal....
I really want to thank u guys for simply giving me a minute of your opinions, guess this time I was lucky, I hope my experience helps others.....till next time

[Q] power button broken

is there anyway to reasign power button to make maybe the home screen button to wake device???
Since the homescreen button is capacitive, I don't think it will work when the screen is off.
Send it back, not worth the trouble imo.

Well I guess ill send back but from what ive been reading around here the power button has a few problems anyways with sinking in and just being cheap

My button just sunk in last night after a few months of use. Got mine on release day and it just now stopped working.
Is there ANY way to power it on via ADB so I can pull a Nandroid backup?
Going to the VZW store today to see if they will replace it for me... I pray they do. I've got a few scuffs on the thing so they better not act like I dropped it. :|
you could always open up the TB and remove the plastic button, then just use a paperclip to turn it on and off.
sounds silly, but hey.. it'd work

Power button issue

For those who think there power button is broken because they push the button a ton of times..
Its not broken!! Its just a delay push it once and wait it will turn on it takes about 5 secs my brothers take 10 secs..
If it doesn't turn after a minute make sure your cover button is actually hitting the soft phone button, after you do all that then yes there's a problem with your hardware

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if my screen didn't immediately turn on when I hit the power button I'd consider it not working properly and warranty it.

I come from the 1st mytouch 3g platform.
For us this was normal, as some devs delayed the power process on purpose for roms on gb,
I could be wrong but I know that when my phone was stock it booted quick after I went with ics and s-off my boot was delayed it varies from rom to rom for me.

True but I'm just saying that I think its normal, to have a bit of a delay now if the phone literally does nothing at all after a few seconds then that's a problem

Speed rom 7.8 doesn't have this lag, it shouldn't have it anyways

I had this problem but fixed it with a piece of tape (black electrical tape) over the power button inside the case.
I got a new cover under warranty...didn't fix the issue,
Got a new battery which didn't fix the issue but it did fix the reboots and shutdowns.
Changed back to energy. ( don't know if this did it)
I know the button does work inside the case but I felt like taking a hammer to the button.
What happened is the plastic cover over the button gotten thin over the time by pressing the button so many times.
Now it works flawlessly. Well i guess the until the tape or the plastic cover thins more.
Now i'm loving my Amaze once again and won't be selling it for half the price anytime soon
I use volume buttons to wake phone turns on instantly with power button just have to press it kind of hard but with volume buttons not the case
I'm talking about like if your phone is turned off.. and you hit the power button to turn it back on it lags,

Power button not/barely working! Please help if u know a fix!

Hello Dear XDA members,
So I have an Amaze that you guys helped me root and install custom ROM on back in Jan, thanks! Now the power button is going out, it's very hard to turn the screen on and off. I have been using the camera button to turn the screen on but I can't turn it off with that button. If the phone runs out of battery I have a really hard time turning it back on.
I called HTC and they said I they will send me an RMA code but they didn't, after a few days I called back and they said while its still under warranty they can't help me because the phone was a demo unit originally. Well I got it from Craigslist not Tmobile so maybe that's why.
Anyway, is there a way to fix the button? I mean 11 months is a very short period for a $599 phone! Anyone knows how to fix this? I really appreciate it. Thanks !!
Ouch. I bought mine from craigslist too but checked my imei before buying. You can use a widget that will act as as power button. See if you can still push the button with ease if you take the phone out of its frame.

Well I guess his biggest sticking point is how to turn the phone on without a working power button. Same thing happens with Nexus One and there are easy workarounds (by plugging in and remove/insert battery repetitively). Is there such a work around for the Amaze?

I came from the nexus one to the amaze when it came out. Having broken power button phobia from the start, I've found "screen off and lock" from market for turning off the screen, and "quick boot" also from the market for reboot, etc. Don't know of any methods off hand to turn it on, once off...
I did however notice that with the back plate off it's easier to get a firm click pushing the power button with just my finger.

Check to see if its the actual button thats not working properly, or if its the back cover. My phone sometimes doesn't have the power button register when i press it down the first time, but its just the button on the back cover that's wearing down and not making contact with the phone. Take a look and hopefully thats all it is, and all you have to do is replace the back cover which runs you anywhere from 10-15 bucks on ebay :good:
google 'button remapper apk' and use it to set your camcorder button as your new power button.

Hey guys that you all! Installed the screen off and lock app and it works great! Thanks!
Removed the battery cover and the button works fine, I guess I just have to replace the battery cover.
Thank you all!!

What andy55 said works but only if the phone isn't completely off. This only works in sleep mode.
Also, try taking off the back cover and press and hold the rubber area with your fingernail where the power button should be. I found the button on the cover wasn't making adequate contact with the phone.

[Q] Root with a broken back button

Hey, so last night i biked home when it was raining really hard. I came home and went straight to bed. My phone was still in my pants wich were also a little wet. Now my problem is that my 3 buttons(options, home and back) dont work. Now i found a app(buttion savior). With that u can just press back on your screen but my phone needs to be rooted for it. Can i still root my phone without useing the back button? If i power up my phone they still work for about 2-5 minutes and after that they stop working everytime.
If i wanna try and do it like they explain in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
It says:
just download the attached file, extract it using winzip/winrar
go to the folder where its extracted and execute "RUNME.bat"
read and follow the instructions on the screen!
I dont wanna start this until i know that the instructions doesnt include the use of the back button. Also i never done these kinds of things before and i know they can break your phone, i just dont wanna do this and found out in the middle of the process that i cant finish it and my phone stops working.
So someone has any experience with my problem or know a solution on how to root without useing the back button? Since they work when i boot my phone i wonder if the back button also works when my phone is turned off.
Greetings
Edit: Since my phone was wet, i dont think the buttons not working is a software fault. Also alot of info i found about this problem are older then a year. Thats why im going to ask it again since maybe in the meanwhile there is a better solution.
Yes this method doesn't use the back button.. Make sure u r on 2.3.3 just follow the instructions

Flashtool can also root without the back button, and can install a recovery.
The only thing you cant do is flash the phone/install a kernal as that needs the back button (but even then your phone needs to be off for that and only needs like 30 secs to be pressed).
Bit strange how it stops working though, however I havent heard of it. The only solution I can think of is to replace the keypad flex cable (which consists of your camera button and your 3 front buttons). However, if youre from the UK and are up for a challenge of "fix it yourself", you could always buy a new keypad flex and fix it yourself. When I broke the same flex cable I used this item: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270706458527?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and works fine.
Lol i prefer not messing with my phone. Yet i dont know how it come the buttons aint working. If i boot up my phone they work for like 5 min so i dont think they are broken tbh. Well guess its time to root and use the button savior i guess

Lol, so a few days ago i went into the shower with my phone (for music). Ik took my phone with wet hands, not the kind of wet hands that wil drown my phone but they were still were wet. The space above my buttons got wet with some with some water and all of a sudden i tried to press the home button, close applications and put my phone to standby to clean it with a towel. Then i noticed that the buttons worked again (100% sure that 2 hour before my shower they didnt worked)
Might be a strange solution but it was 4 days ago and the buttons works again. I dont try to say to put water on your phone but it might work. Maybe its the pressure of the water on the touchscreen that made it work( almost 100% sure, why would water make a diffrence besides the pressure effect on the screen). I noticed alot of SE Xperia x10 with this problem so not sure if they had any water related problems but even tho its dangerous it still might work :S

HTC warranty on the one?

Ok so I have my one and I think I'm having issues with my proximity sensor...if I'm on a call and I pull the phone away the screen stays black instead of turning back on for me to use the keypad or end a phone call...I usually have to hit the power button to get the screen to turn back on...it happens on every Rom I've tried including stock...all proximity tests have come back normal etc....so I'm thinking of sending it to HTC...if there is a hardware type issue will they be able to fix it or will they most likely send me another phone?...I am bootloader unlocked...will I have to soff and relock and s-on to send it to them for warranty service? Or do they really mind if the bootloader is unlocked? I never had to send a phone back to the manufacture before for warranty work...thanks guys

Why aren't you dealing with at&t? Much easier.
I spoke with att a while ago and they told me I'd have to go thru HTC since my remorse period was over...that was a bit ago...maybe I'll try att over the phone....

Ok so after some testing I'm realizing it's not the proximity sensor...if I make a call and say put the phone down...and nothing infront of the sensor the phone will flicker on and off and then eventually just turn completely off that I have to press the power button to turn it back on...it must be the way I hold my phone that the proximity sensor doesn't get covered....but is that normal though?...if using the phone say on speaker away from the face...should it turn off like that? I would think the phone screen should stay on the full duration of the call no?...can anyone else test this out?

Yeah I'm planning on it....but before I do is that normal for the screen to shut off into sleep mode while on a call? If it's a normal reaction there's no reason to get warranty service...like I made a call...put it on the table with speaker on.. after about 20 seconds phone screen went blank and had to hit power button to turn it back on

yeah I don't think so
I never really paid attention to it but the proximity sensor should only kick in when you put phone up to your face.
Just test it, make a call, cover the proximity sensor with your finger and see if the screen turns off.

I am having the same issue, either it turns the screen off and i need to hit the power or the screen stays on and I face press ass the buttons.
I'm using the Bell Canada ONE. I just sent it out for repair for messed up speakers, didn't even think about the proximity sensor.. But, from what HTC told me, if I send the phone out 3 times for repair they just give you a new one... so i'll wait, if I send it again for proximity, it will be 3rd time.
