[Q] Flash Radio via fastboot - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Currently I am using ATT htc one with developer edition OS. I learned from the forum that there was update from att about the radio. So I tried to flash it.
However, since I want OTA work, I chose to stay with the stock recovery and therefore I cannot flash it via custom recovery like a lot of threads in here talking about. I searched and only found the procedure from other htc product's forum as below.
1) adb reboot-bootloader
2) fastboot flash radio radio.img
But "fastboot flash radio radio.img" has no response at all.
I got the img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=232556. It was extracted from Radio_4A.16.3250.24_10.38.1150.03.zip. And Ive already s-offed and unlocked bootloader.
Any help about flashing? Thanks in advance.

The latest OTA has a radio newer than the one you are trying to flash. Since you want OTA to still work, why flash an older radio?

I have converted att os to developer edition. Even though the build is 1.29.1540.17, baseband is still 4A.14.3250.13, which is the original.

Need to do adb shell while in recovery then:
dd if=/sdcard/radio_firmware.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p31
"radio_firmware.img" to be changed to whatever the name of the radio file is.
Also, I'm not sure if this command works in stock recovery. All posts I've seen say do this in custom recovery.
If it doesn't work, just flash custom recovery, flash radio, then flash back stock recovery.
Also why do you need OTA and Developer Edition conversion? If you're s-off and unlocked, it's easier to be up to date using either custom ROM or even stock ROM of international version and flashing radio/firmware as necessary.

Thank you for our kind reply. Personally I like sense 5 very much, so I have no intention to use other ROM. For att os, I really don't like those programs coming with it.

You can flash a stock international ROM and keep it up to date manually.
Also there are custom stock ROMs, such as Android Revolution or CleanROM, that are stock Sense 5 with optimizations for performance and battery life.
Custom stock ROMs based on international version will allow you to have updates sooner than waiting for OTA to be approved by carrier.

[Q] Flashing Kernels after Using HTC Unlock Method???

I unlocked the bootloader and rooted yesterday, because as a Mac owner, I got tired of there being few rooting solutions for the platform (didnt want to install Linux, or Bootcamp/Parallels for Windows, etc.).
Now, I really like a few of the roms that I got a chance to download and play with, but realized 4g, Wifi, and camera aren't working. I need to find a solution but it seems like flashing the appropriate kernels would be the only one.
Im just trying to start a discussion to remedy this problem because I'm sure I'm no the only one having it.

Get a ROM that works better. Most ROMs dont have that problem, you most likely flashed a beta ASOP ROM.

I kinda played around with some different roms yesterday, and like you guys said, only the 2.3.4 roms built around the rewer 2.08 update worked. Im really just waiting for the MIUI Rom to surface, but from what I understand, that might be a bit of a wait.

No, you cannot. I has been proved by him, me and others. Even using a modified 2.3.4 original from the OTA (just the sprint spyware removed) it won't flash at all. Look at his post. I tried that too and samething. Only thing that the official HTC unlock (with S-ON) is letting us do is flash a recovery and flash roms. thats it.

So what you're saying is; Once the source for the 2.3.4 RUU has been released, someone will eventually tweak it so that people who OTA updated/used the HTC unlock method will be able to flash kernels.

You're saying a modified stock kernel to remove the spyware will not flash correct?
Sorry but why would you want to root using their method? I rooted my 3d, in 15 min, a month before they released their method (which requires a contract be signed.)
I have to admit that I rushed a bit. I also got the phone the day that HTC released their method. I thought to myself - well this is supported by the manufacturer, so it must be legit, and relatively safe, (even with the void your warranty warnings - that's standard issue when you're fiddling with your stuff), because who wants the backlash of thousands of pissed off customers?
But it is what it is

I havent done it but read where a few members discovered you CAN flash a kernel using fastboot. Being you have a mac I have no clue how to set fastboot up on your system. There are prob some guides floating around somewhere.

wow, two confirmations kernels can be flashed using the official htc unlock method via the bootloader and fastboot! looks like with the official htc unlock method, write access to the boot partition (where kernel is stored) is only granted while the bootloader is in fastboot usb mode, not in normal or recovery android mode?
interesting ....

Yeah. I've looked all over and still haven't been able to figure out how to flash kernels on a mac after using HTC's unlock method. I thought no kernels would work anyways, since the 2.3.4 source hasn't been released yet
Do what mikedavis120 said, run VM with XP or Parallels Desktop on your MAC.

boot into bootloader and click on fastboot (it might even boot into fastboot not sure) If you see Fastboot USB you are good

It shouldnt be affected by the older firmware. However because we do not have S-OFF it probably wont write the radio.img

that is weird... I am not knowledgeable about this type stuff but I wonder why we can fastboot flash recoveries and kernels, but not the radio..
so then is the only way to get the new radio to re-lock>> run the RUU>> unlock again>> flash custom recovery>> then preferred ROM?
My understanding is s-off prevents flashing radios, but we can still flash recoveries, kernels, and roms.
I just wanted to be clear about the ability to flash the radio.

New Rezound user

Hello everyone!
I recently purchased a Rezound and I want to jump into rooting/modding it. Im coming from the Samsung Fascinate, and that thing was super easy to root. I've searched the forums here but I just couldn't find a root guide. I want to flash Infection rom but I really don't know how to go about it. I don't know what this s-off and s-on business is about and I don't want to do anything to my phone without further research to prevent bricking my device. My software number reads: 3.14.605.13 710RD. I am running stock android 4.0.3. Could anyone please send me in the right direction to go about flashing custom roms on my new device? Thank you!

I was on the same OTA as you. Unlocked via HTCDev, flashed recovery in fast boot and superuser. From there you can flash ROMs while s-on. I went a step further using the unlimited.io website and got s-off.
If you stay s-on you need to have a computer to flash the boot.IMG from the ROM you want which is the kernel.

Say if i were to want to flash a newer version of infection rom, would be okay to just wipe cache and dalvik then flash the newer version unless instructed by the dev to wipe everything? Also, since I am currently s-on, will i have to flash the boot.img everytime i flash a new custom rom or update infection rom?

I always wipe everything but yea you should be OK. If you change ROMs you have to flash the boot.img. I didn't stay son long so in not sure about updates. Try it if it doesn't boot then you have too.

I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37061598 its the unofficial port of cm 10.1, stang is awesome enough to build an update every fourth night. So we do flash an update zip on top of our first flash and so on
If its an update to the ROM you should just be able to flash on top of it and wipe cache\dalvik cache. the only time you need a complete full wipe is if the android version changes from 4.2.2 which android version doesn't change often OR if you start having major issues.
As far as flashing the boot.img in bootloader every update. You should ask the dev or an s-on person using the rom. I wouldn't know because I s-off'd my rezound within the first 2hours of having it

Actually, it depends on the ROM. I use EclipticRez and Snuzzo and Hawknest have it set up to create a PH98IMG file of the kernel you choose in setup, it puts in in a folder so all you have to do as s-on is navigate to it in recovery and flash. So no need for a computer.
I've had the phone since it came out and I'm still s-on. Doesn't bother me a bit.
I looked into S-off for the Rezound and I found Hasoon2000s all in one tool kit found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696394
I also read about how there no more support for windows OS for s-off. I'm not familiar with linux unfortunately (something i have to check off in my bucket list someday). Is there any way to achieve s-off while using windows?
I did the wire trick on windows 7, I search for a guide for you on xda. I'll edit the post if I found something

Problems restoring to stock

I converted my HTC One to a google edition by flashing the ruu, changing the modelid and cid. I tried reverting to stock sense by restoring a nandroid but when it booted to Android the touchscreen did not work. When I restored the nandroid I did not change the modelid or cic but I don't think that would have mattered. Do I need to also restore the bootloader ?

You need to restore an earlier firmware. Follow the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355814. On page 5 i posted a firmware that replaces the same partitions (other than system) that the GPe conversion changes out. If you don't want to change you MID just change the android-info.txt file to match your current MID (PN072000) and it will flash.
Good luck...if this helps let the folks in that thread know, and as always love the thanks button.

No...just system and boot usually. You can grab cache and data too...but not the other partitions. Be scary always writing the firmware on restore. Mucking with firmware is risky business.

Complete HTC newb here so apologies if its been repeated or if there's already tons of threads on it, but I can't seem to find a solid all in one revert to 100% stock thread... that said, the crack flasher in me got too antsy and I unlocked the bootloader, fastboot flashed a recovery, and put a custom 4.2.2 ROM (ViperOne) on my One. I liked stock just fine and want to go back to it now. As far as I know I didn't s-off or change my firmware or anything important, I just did those 3 things so would I be ok just flashing that T-Mobile stock zip posted above and then fastboot flashing the stock t-mo recovery? I am not a flashing newb, I know adb and fastboot and how to flash various packages.
tl;dr unlocked and flashed a custom recovery to put on a custom 4.2.2 ROM. do I need to do anything special besides flashing a T-Mobile "stock" package and reverting recovery?

I have read that, its still a little unclear.. from what I read I need to be s-off to flash stock firmware or ROMs? if not then it should be a piece of cake, I'll just do everything but the last s-off -> s-on step since I'm already s-on

You don't need to be S-On for OTA's. Only locked bootloader with stock recovery.

ota update and viper 2.0 rom?

I have a HTC One Max it is s-off routed and unlocked
I'm using the viper 1.01 rom verizon 4.3
I would like to use the viper 2.0 rom
kitkat 4.42. Will it work properly as I don,t
have the kitkat 4.42 ota update? What do I have to do
to get the ota update and use the viper 2.0 rom?
Or is it inbedded in the viper 2.0 rom.
I did try flashing it however could not get wi-fi to work.
I did try reading for this in viper forms -but ???

I am not exactly sure if you need to take an OTA to be able to flash ViperMax 2.0.0. However, OTA will certainly upgrade your phone's bootloader which is 2.49.0.000
You need to unroot your phone to be able to take OTA.
To unroot:
* Restore stock backup
* flash stock recovery
* Relock your bootloader.
* After all of this, boot into stock recovery and Factory Rest and finally boot into your phone.
Now you should be able to receive OTA.
Let me know if you would need to know something else.

The 4.4.2 firmware isn't included in Viper 2.0 rom. It can be installed as stated in farazhassankhan post or fastboot installation.
back to stock

if your s-off you don't want to change you bootloader, just install 2.0 and wait(if someone makes one)for a flashable firmware for s-off users.with stock recovery and hboot removed,
from version 4.3 to4.4.2

yeah you can flash it, are you on twrp 2.6.3.0 or higher no problem i would flash viperone 2.. clean flash that is.
wipe:
dalvic
cache
data
system
not the internal(be careful here, you don't check it by mistake
boot to recovery, tap wipe>advanced wipe, then select the above
if wifi still doesn't work you may need to flash the radio from the update. i don't have this phone so, maybe someone here will make a flashable for just the radio are you s-off??

Just an updated radio and hboot are the only difference. Who is your provider so I can link you to the correct its firmware.

The boot.img is located in the vipe zip folder you download that has your rom.zip
Is that what you were asking?
It might just be easier for you to backup your data. And just flash either a stock rom or RUU and it will update itself.
i used RUU and got bootloop now i finaly got it to boot up in to bootloader but when i try to go to recovery it just bootloops Can anyone point me to
the rite direction(verizon htc one max) bootloader says unlocked -s-off -Hboot2.49 Radio 1.36.680122
restored
