Here's the story - purchased a soft-bricked Vibrant for $50. It booted up to the phone - ! - computer screen. Took it home, used One-Click Unboot. Took a few tries, drivers, and USB ports, but eventually it worked. After that, it was just turning on and hanging at the Vibrant screen. Going along with other threads, I tried flashing to stock from ODIN. I followed this guide: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
ODIN was finicky but eventually recognized my phone on COM Port 4. With the appropriate PIT and PDA loaded, I clicked Start and all the files uploaded. The phone restarts and.. stuck at Vibrant again. ODIN even lights up with a green PASS but I've let the phone sit and sit and it never gets anywhere.
Is this thing a total dud? Granted I'm trying to boot without a SIM card in it but I didn't think that would make a difference. Please, someone help. I'm stumped and annoyed.
Tried following this guide as well. Same problem. I'm definitely frustrated.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6998-howto-recover-from-a-soft-brick-on-your-vibrant/
I'm having this same problem, any info would be nice. I've actually tried several different guides online and none have worked for me, I can never get past the bootloader screen.
Also, I have been unable to find the file to install CWR, so I have no backup. I know my phone isn't bricked because I can install different modems and such but nothing is working to get it back up and working.
Make sure you've got the right files. Grab the ones out of the noob guide just to be sure

Yep, same problem. I can't seem to get into recovery either. Or connect to ADB to reboot into recovery. I'm tearing my damn hair out over this.
I tried ODIN flashing the Froyo No-Brick ROM for the hell of it cuz I read it fixed this issue as a last ditch for some people. No dice. Boots to the Vibrant screen for a second, then Vibrant switches to Galaxy S and it just sits there.
If no one has any ideas soon, I'm just going to say screw it. Pretty bummed - I've been on a G1 forever and was excited to use an Android phone that doesn't totally suck.

Go into the Developers section and look at the 2nd or 3rd post "Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5" . Download that into your computer and run 'Flash to Stock'.
That should help you get to where you need to go. Try the one click method first.

Thanks for the advice guys, but still no go. Installed the drivers from the toolkit but all I can still do is use ODIN to try and flash stock. Results are exactly the same. Reboot into recovery still isn't working - I have a feeling USB debugging was not enabled on this phone before any of this happened so I'm screwed in that respect.
Keep trying, it's not bricked, one combination of files has to work for you.
Well there's only so many files I can apparently try. I've tried JFD, JI6, Eugene No-Brick.. Is there anything else I should trying flashing with ODIN?
Take out your sim card and microSD card. Download the appropriate stock JFD files, make sure you check repartition; you should be fine. USB debugging box not being checked before has nothing to do with your problem now. I believe either your partition or your bootloasder is screwy. Follow my steps above and you should be ok.
In fact, look at this and follow it to the T.

That's what I've tried probably 30 times by now. Repartition checked and unchecked. And yeah I know USB debugging doesn't have to do with ODIN, it's why I'm assuming I can't get ADB to recognize the phone so I could at least try "adb reboot recovery".
Outside of flashing JFD, JI6, or Eugene's No-Brick, is there anything else I could try?

Haha no Craigslist I ended up having her file a claim and send it back. I must have borked the bootloader somehow cause now it wont turn on at all. Thank God for insurance. She's SUPER pissed though.
Compared to my Galaxy SII this phone is very finicky and ODIN is even more unreliable than normal. Never hard bricked a device before.
Picked up a G2 practically new for $100. Loving it so far - rooting process was a snap.
F this Vibrant. Back to Craigslist it goes. Still open to ideas before it's gone so I can attempt to get my money back, lol.

The only thing I see that will fix the Vibrant when it's in this state is JTAG brick repair for $50. This is after spending 12 hours searching and attempting to ODIN different stock firmwares till I finally hard bricked it.
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-4g-vibrant-4g-jtag-brick-repair/
Yeah I was considering this. I e-mailed the guy asking if it was an appropriate fix. I figure, if the service takes care of a hard brick, it can certainly take care of a soft brick. Maybe I'll do that to keep it around as a back-up phone. Thanks for the replies, everyone.
Hello to all.
Have gtab 10.1 gt-p7500 and i used lots of roms and all worked perfectly fine until last friday, when i try to go back on stock rom, want to sell the tab so everything should be as it is, but there is one little problem. It seems i bricked the thing, i couldnt come into download mode neither cwm so i opened it and put out the battery, put in another and it works, i could come into download mode, but then i try to install/flash the rom over the odin, all sorts of roms actually, so i download it from sammobile, xda, some other pages, basicaly from all the google, well almost. I found the rom that has pda, phone and csc files all separated so i try that too, but no. Anyway i throw everything away now, but if there is something i dont know and i didnt read (forgot or didnt find) i decide to ask you ppl here cause before i throw the tab into trash i want to know there is nothing else i can do about to fix it. Ow i cant send it to the service cause i am that guy, but this is just to much for me, didnt see something like that before. I try through kies, but kies want some password i dont have and when i enter s/n and model into kies it found nothingh. My last chance to win this tab are you ppl so i ask each one of you to help me out and i thank you all.
Have you tried to flash a pit file prior to flashing he rom? Do that first and then proceed with the Rom. The pit file is used to repartition the tablet.

I'm trying that right now, waiting for 10min already.. I use for pit android _fastboot_emmc_full_p4_16G_32G and Odin 1.85. I read all the posts on xda forum about bricked tab and I try everything, but usually I got faill in about 5sec but now it's just nothing, I mean I have do not turn of target in Odin so maybe. I tick the re-partition button well it was ticked already and I try without also but then it doesn't even start. This is so weird, I wish there would be some electronic failure, it easier then, but no. Anyway, before I start to talk nonsense.... Thank you for your time to answer, I will try more tomorrow, if this fail ill try again, if I'm using wrong pit or Odin tell me please.. Thanks again.

I try that PIT over the night, but when i wake up it was on fail. Right now im trying to flash the ROM from here http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...14:samsung-flashes&catid=55:samsung&Itemid=82 for p7500 android 3.1, using:
BOOTLOADER_P7500JPKG6_CL429994.tar.md5
CODE_P7500JPKG6_CL429994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
MODEM_P7500XXKG7_REV_00_CL1037181.tar.md5
P7500-MULTI-CSC-OJPKG4.tar.md5
when i hit Start button on Odin i got ...is valid and then:
Leave CS..
Odin v.3 engine
File Analysis..
Setup Connection..
Initialzation..
Get PIT for mapping..
waiting for 2 hours now and nothing, usualy i get done through Odin in 15sec or something, very fast, so i assume will be failed also. If i put PIT there also it fail, so basically i try many things already and nothing and as i say i come to download mode without problems, just hit Power+Volume Down and i also try to flash cwm ClockworkMod_Recovery_v5.5.0.4_P75xx but fail, i can go there but there is only wipe data and wipe chash i cant flash ROM.
I think thats all ive been doing if i forgot something else ill add later. Thank you all for help again and i hope we can find a solution.
Just small add
trying PIT but i always got Re-partiton operation Failed

I try this page http://galaxytabhacks.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-hacks/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-10-1-the-easy-way/ and i did flash cwm, great the only thing that actually passed on odin is this, but then i try reverted back through http://galaxytabhacks.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-hacks/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-10-1/ this page, no way, fail, its interesting it failed at boot, after that i tried cmd, but seens i havent have locked sim i dont need that, anyway i try but i come to the platform-tools but recovery didnt worked out. Tried NVtflash also but i must admit it didnt go well also, maybe i did something wrong but i dont think so cause its very good tutorial, i did try that before too, i call in the store where i bought the tab so they give me the firmware and i download it from sammobile but no way, i am now in cwm but cant flash anything cause there is nothing and it dosnt recognise external sd card and about ecryption, it dosnt say much (in that post), just links to hack and to android_sdk, which i try both. And there is something new, when i put in charging cause the battery is empty now cause of all that flashing i dont get battery icon but "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". Thats something new, well not really i saw that before but it actually worked over Odin to restore the Rom, well flash. I read the post about that thats why i called in the store so they give me that firmware (i read in one post that i need one it was before), but failed. I actually worked whole day on this tab so im finished for today with it, but very much thanks for helping me out, i did miss some post but with your help i see them now. I was wondering also and look for it on google but didnt find nothing, about internal sd card, where is that thing anyway? Silly question but i never encountered to fail something about sd but in my case i got very strong filling that is something wrong with sd card. Thank you very much for helping me out, seems now are holidays (in europe) i wish you happy one and all the rest.
Okej so this is it: I go into cmd, to my Platform-tools in sdk and i type fastboot boot recovery.img and walla, nothing happened so i go fastboot boot boot.img, nothing, fastboot boot system.img, wow nothing again, so i said how the .... not working this is .... dos, so that was the first time when i crash my tab and after i smoke like 7 cigarettes i cool down. I said lets move to the laptop. Ok i do that, same story, going into platform-tools with cmd and i type fastboot boot boot.img, i didnt try to recovered stuff cause it was all broken anyway so i press enter and boom, the damn thing actually restart so i go http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2035 and download CWM Restorable Image and i run odin 1.85 and wow, look at this its working, i had cwm now, so i said this is fantastic so i go in Odin 1.85 again and add pit file android_fastboot_emmc_full_p4_16G_32G and pressed start, waiting 5sec and walla it passed, WOW i said, i mean one of those big wows you know what i mean, after that i put PDA p7500xwkl1 and start again and the .... thing passed so i restart and after reboot, ROM actually wanted some password to enter in, of course i didnt have so i flash another one, cant even remember witch one and it passed again, this time i come into the tab and everything worked perfect. After that i root and flesh other roms but thats another story. Im sorry for this long story but it how happens. Anyway in the end i realise that my win7 64bit wasnt the right one but on Vista 32bit worked all, i didnt even think about that before neither try to look for errors cause windows7 has always recognised the tab just didnt let files on Odin (odin recognised tab too) through something. Anyway it is working now and i found out about sd card, i know it dosnt exist cause its all on flesh rom, not quiet good if you ask me.
First let me apologise cause i know its alot of bricked tab posts but i write my own cause i had different problem, well kinda and
I want to thank Panos_dm for helping me out cause i admit i left out some posts but with his help i found them.
Ok mate. I'm glad everything worked out!

(sry for my english, I hope you understand)
So, I have a sgs2, and I tried to root it.
because I already did this with my friends phones, I know how to flash the kernel in odin, and by mistake I tried to flash a kernel that doesn't match to my kernel (I hope Im saying right things as I understood from other forums).
Now Im f***ed,
I have the NAND rw corruption symptoms (Doesn't flash, Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)Bootloop)
So I tried to fix it by using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
but in the 1st step, when Im trying to flash the kernel, my odin stucks in zImage, after minuets of waiting, I tried flash it agein but then odin stucks on SetupConnection. Everytime Im rebooting it into download mod and trying to flash the kernel, odin stuck on zImage, then on SetupConnection.
After continuing reading comments, some people said their mainboard messed up and they need a new one,
I hope I can fix my Nand rw corruption prob' without paying for it.. Im kinda scared
So, anybody knows how to fix this?
Fixed. my solution
as long as I dont really had another computer I could only use my computer,
I had a chance after a while so I tried to flash the stock kernel from another computer, and wwhhaalla
phone is back to life.

so i managed to get my hands on a sgs 2 (sprint) that has nand corruption.it turns out a friend of mine had tried flashing his phone and flashed the wrong krenel.on top of that his phone was not properly rooted,so now im left with a half dead paper weight.the phone enters DL mode and 2 other screens so far.one is some small red text saying the battery is too low to DL mode and the other is a yellow triangle stating firmware was not successfully installed and to open kies .etc.so i asked him (jarod) if he had tried restoring it with the recovery......it gets super good about right here.SO HE DIDNT RECOVER WHEN HE HAD THE CHANCE because he read somewhere that odin and samsung kies have issues and he read u should uninstall kies after u get the drivers..also he restored his pc in hopes to save his arse and be able to start over,so no dev drivers.,well i got my hands on it about 5 days ago and have since tried to get my or his pc to see the device.heimdall/zadig.exe are no help.this thing is a unknown hardware id all the way around.im curious if installing drivers than hooking up a good sgs 2 and letting windows install the device/s i could hook it up in DL mode at least.i have tried the uninstall drivers/remove battery methods with no luck.so i ask the experts and fans!is this phone on its way for jtag or can we try to get this hunk of plastic working without jtag.

Okay, So I am as NOOB as NOOB can be,
I got a used SGS2 (Bell/Virgin), I am on Telus so I figured, how hard can it be to unlock it instead of paying some dude to do it for me? (First mistake, and have been humbled every step of the way since!...)
Anyway I will try to keep this relatively short (it will be difficult)... ...I read a few things online and saw that I needed ODIN and a Rooting software, I originally used SuperOneClick, and to download the right insecure kernel to match my original one etc... ...problem is I obviously didn't read nearly enough when I started because I was almost done and then there was a hiccup when SuperOneClick said that I needed to enable SU in Kies. So I decided to go into Kies to try and do so but the instructions before I started Rooting said to put the phone in USB debugging mode. Apparently Kies doesn't see the phone if it is in that mode. Well by this time I can't get past the logo screen and this is where my downward spiral begins.
I then tried to unroot the phone to go back to stock but didn't really know what I was doing and then I read something about the cache needing to be wiped and then after that I read that maybe my OS was wiped. So at this point I did lots of reading (what I should have done in the first place) and most of anything useful I found was on XDA so that is why I am here. It seemed like yes, in fact my OS was wiped because of one of my not so S-M-R-T actions. So I fumbled through and found the right OS for my S2 and I had ODIN going strong and I had the OS loading, the green bar getting bigger in ODIN and the blue bar working it's way across the screen of my S2...I thought "finally!!, I rock!!"... ...then for some reason everything stopped! I had seen in a post that I had to uninstall Kies before doing anything, which I did...but I didn't see until after the fact that my anti-virus likely interfered (I didn't disable it for the process before I started).
At that point of course I was left with a phone that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
So then I was afraid to try anything else because many say to steer clear of Kies and also I had read that I may need a USB jig to be able to get it back into download mode because all I was getting was the "firmware upgrade issue" screen. I did make a USB jig with a resistance of 300K Ohms and I *can* get the phone into download mode. (Though another concern is that when I plug the USB jig in and it brings the phone into download mode, the counter is not reset and I read that that was supposed to be reset by the jig.)
So last night I got brave and decided to try and run ODIN and to have another attempt at installation of OS. Now I can get ODIN to detect the phone, but I put the I9100MUGLD3_I9100MBMCLD3_I9100MXXLD3_HOME.tar.md5 file into the PDA section of ODIN and it starts and gets to the part where it says loading firmware or something and then bootload.bin and it stayed like that for like, an hour and then I gave up, fearing that I am just going to screw it up even more.
So now I decided that I am not even close to knowing what to do next but every time I found anything to move forward it was on this site so I figured I may as well join the site since I have been here so often. Now I am hoping for some kind of miracle...so, in advance, please please please and thank you thank you thank you all for your input. (Sorry for the length of this I just wanted to get all the info I could into this)
Its quite a long story and didnt bother reading it.
If you can still access your phone via odin at downloadmode. Flash a stock firmware for your device and it should fix if it is just a soft brick.

Sorry for the length of the story, I thought there may be alot of useful info mixed in with the useless info... ...when you say use stock firmware do you mean the kernel or the actual OS? I tried loading ICS onto it (which I thought was stock but I may be wrong). Is it supposed to be gingerbread or something else? Also where would I find a good file for it.
Thank you again for any input, very much appreciated!

Thank you all so much for your help, I could not get it to work after several tries, I even tried three or 4 different USB cables and ports on my PC and still no. I read on another thread that one person tried another PC and it worked so I tried my friend's laptop and it worked!...my SGS2 boots up and all that now! Very very happy thank you all.
Hey all,
First i'd like to tell my phone was 'working' as it was able to go to download mode.
Im not really an expert, but when I used Google to find a solution for my error I read about using Odin.
(In case you need the error, I will try to edit the thread and add this asap!)
I followed a tutorial about using Odin and tried to get my phone up back and running.
I downloaded the following file for my Samsung J5:
sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-j5/SM-J500FN/PHN/download/J500FNXXS1BQG3/181971/
After using the Odin software it somehow got interrupted while installing. (cable came loose I guess, I heard the connect/disconnect sound shortly after each other)
Also I noticed there was a small red text on the screen complaining about the available size on the phone.
Even though the phone installation was interrupted, the phone was still able to get into download mode.
Next up, I decided to place a micro SD card to get extra storage space and retried the Odin process. The final result was a "PASS" (see screenshot)
i.imgur.com/WzFJLaQ.jpg
After the update was done 'succesfully' the phone screen immediately turned to black.
There were no signs of life anymore, not even accessing boot mode / recovery mode no nothing.
I've bought an USB JIG, but sadly also with the JIG I had no luck.
Is there any way to get my phone back and running? or can anyone give me some advice?
I really hope someone can help me out!
Sounds like a hard brick ?
This happens when you try to upgrade or downgrade, some devices don´t allow this or the firmware is not matching.
Pull out battery if it is removable for some minutes then try normal method, if not....
Here the correct method to do a jig by your own or maybe it´s better to buy one (it´s not expensive) to made sure that is correctly made http://www.instructables.com/id/USB-JIG-to-give-life-to-your-Bricked-mobile/
Also you can try with Smart Switch https://youtu.be/y8AZyalTf5Y
