We are looking for someone to either:
(a) Modify the stock messaging apk so when a MMS is sent it doesn't look to the SIM card for the MDN (invalid destination address error with non active LTE SIM card or another carrier's SIM card in phone).
OR
(b) Remove the "Insert SIM" red icon on the taskbar and the annoying popup telling you to insert the SIM card every time you power on or unlock the screen when there is no SIM card in the phone.
This is needed for people who want the stock messaging app to send MMS on Page Plus or another carrier and the phone to have the stock feel and look. We are not satisfied with apps like GO SMS PRO so please don't suggest that.
We want this for stock, rooted ME7 and are offering $150 to the first person who is capable of achieving this. If anyone else is interested in donating please post in the thread below.
If you need more details let us know.

I can remove the "insert sim" red icon for sure. I can get rid of the start-up pop-up as well but it creates other issues that I haven't had a chance to figure out or fix yet. hopefully that amounts for half the bounty
PM me and we can work it out.
Ok the MMS apk is easy.... Use 8sms from the play store, stock feel with a few other improvements.
Now as far as the actual stock apk, for the ones that do not like this one and I have no clue why they would not. I am working on that also.
No Bounty needed or expected when I get it working, save your money for your hobbies

Thank you for this thread! I have been searching for a working solution to help a friend get the stock messaging app to work on his Verizon S4 flashed to Boost (no SIM card). He can send/receive SMS and can receive MMS. But can't send MMS. Yesterday, I decompiled the stock messaging app to see if I can find anything that sticks out...nada...but I have to admit, I only spent an hour looking.
Have this same problem as well on a Verizon Note 3 and Note 2.
I agree that Go SMS Pro is not an ideal workaround. It's too damn bloated.
I experimented with the following mmsc in /system/etc/apns-config.xml to see if the phone's MDN can be sort of hard coded in, but unfortunately, it didn't work. I've read that this workaround worked fine on other phones (older phones that is) so it was worth a try.
mmsc="http://mm.myboostmobile.com/servlets/mms?X-SPRINT-MDN=3105551234", where 3105551234 is your 10 digit MDN/phone number.
To get rid of the "No SIM" on the notification bar, I editted the build.prop and appended these lines at the bottom of the file:
# Remove No SIM message
keyguard.no_require_sim=true
ro.config.donot_nosim= true

Hey good morning,
I read your post on the thread in regards to the pesky "No Sim Card Error" and I wanted to know if that worked out with no other issues? And you also mentioned you edited the "build.prop" now my question is did you edit with an android app or did you exported to your pc and then edit from there? When you get time if you could respond I would really appreciate it . Also one more thing did you try this with a Samsung Galaxy S4 from Sprint yet?
Yes, it worked with no issues. I've used Root Explorer and EFS File Explorer to directly edit the build.prop. I've done it on Sprint and Verizon Galaxy S4 and Note 3 phones.

I can confirm, this also works on rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 with custom ROM (MOAR) Thanks!
Nice

when I sens SMS messages on the streak, I'm a greay box, and my girlfriend is beautiful
I don't want to be a grey box anymore.
I've read in a few places that you need to upload a picture into your google profile, but I've done it for every profile I have/can find and it doesn't update to my phone.
anybody have any ideas?
You have to have your own number saved onto your SIM card.
There should be a "SIM Manager" app somewhere on your phone when you're on StreakDroid (DJSteve's ROM), you can add your own number (with "Me" as the name as far as I remember) there ..
Your picture should show up then, at least after rebooting your phone.
I use a stock ROM (347). On my Streak...
1. It is true that you have to save your own phone number to the contact list. However, it is not required that the number be saved to the SIM card. Yes, saving it to the SIM card makes certain that you never lose it should you have to wipe the internal memory. But the contact can be saved to the internal memory without issue.
2. The contact can be named anything you wish and will still work. I use my name and have no issues. This is because the messaging app looks for the phone number first. If it finds that the phone number is the one issued by the carrier, the messaging app will label it "Me". If someone else's number, it will pull the name from the contact and use that.
3. The changes take effect immediately. No rebooting required.
I don't use StreakDroid obviously, so I can't speak for that ROM, but unless the Contacts app has been replaced with something else, what I said above should apply.
I think I need to set it up in the "my phone number" area of my phone first, it comes up as "unknown"
nothing seems to be able to fix it because my research shows that it's something that needs to be set up especialy on the SIM first.
and my carrier is useless and has me on hold while they talk to dell, who'll likely say it can't be done.
I'll just use my girlfriends iPhone to do it...
Are you carrier locked? That might explain the run-around you have to do to get this working. I tend to forget that mine is an unlocked model.
I'm on carrier locked, AT&T.
You simply save your phone number in your contacts. I called it "me" for easy reference. Then you just change the picture of "me" to whatever you want (I used the little android robot).
There are no tricks. No changing of the google profile account. Just save a contact as your phone number. Well, ok, the only trick is to play with it to see if it wants the format as 1-(areacode)-(number) or simply (number) or simply (areacode)-(number). Mine is (areacode)-(number) and it works with no problems.
It's an unlocked phone, a "me" account doesn't work, nothing I put anywhere does anything, and I'm pretty sure it's because the "my phone number" section in "about phone" comes up as 'unknown' which refers to a special number that can be put on the SIM card, which doesn't happen all that often in australia, because the average telco representitave is either 16 and twirls their hair, or 40+ and so dumb they have trouble breathing and typing your phone number.
If I had to guess, your SIM cards were already programmed with your number in that section.
Same here i just added myself to the phonebook and selected a pic and that was that.

This seems to be a regular stupid problem in Android phones.
I had to change my SIM card to get a micro-sim for the GS3.
Now, my existing number is working again with the micro SIM, but the number apparently isn't actually STORED in the SIM card itself.
So, as far as the phone status is concerned, the number remains UNKNOWN.
It's not such a big deal, but a few apps do want it to be there.
Is there any way to change the number in the SIM, apart from taking it out and stuffing it in a Blackberry just to change it, etc ?

Thanks for the reply rizky, but I have no problem with contacts - I've sync'ed all those no problem. It's my own phone number that's the issue.
In the ideal world, my own phone number should be saved in a special part of the SIM card (different to contacts). I believe that sometimes the network operator sends a special type of text message to update it if you get a new card. Unfortunately, my new card didn't get updated, so although the phone works OK, my GS3 doesn't actually know it's own number.
I can READ the number as "unknown" in the phone status screen, but it is not possible to edit it in Android.

This is not a setting in stock android devices. You usually find the setting in cyanogen roms under call settings.
There are apps on the market that can write your number to your sim card. They have varying success

I presume that they need root access though, don't they?
Android, setting Own number / My Phone Number Galaxy SIII
First, to see if your phone knows your number go to:
Settings -> About Device -> Status -> My phone number
Often it's wrong if you transferred your number from another SIM or is simply unrecognized perhaps because it's a new SIM and it has never been entered.
To correct it:
There is an app. on the market "My Phone Number" but this frequently won't work on the SIII so,
If you use cyanogen six and aboveYou will have an option to enter or change your own number. Settings -> Call Settings -> Additional Settings -> My phone numberIf you are not using CyanogenA simple way to correct the number grab an old "dumb" phone. The number is stored on the SIM card, so you need to remove you Galaxy SIII SIM and put it in the old phone.
(you can use a Micro SIM adapter or in some cases you can just tape the card in the correct position if it is an open slot)
Older basic phones often have an option to change/enter "special numbers" including "My Number"
Most often the option is under Contacts, Options, Special Numbers although depending on the model you may need to hunt around for the setting.
It is worth correcting this if it is missing or incorrect because some apps and contact features rely on the number being correctly entered.

w00t - just discovered this!
Well, you can do all that, or you can do this (much more straightforward, IMHO)
There's an Xposed framework solution to this glitch here
Works a treat!
Get it done!
good to know Xposed can do it now.
Its not an android glitch. Its a SIM card glitch
A glitch nonetheless

how i fix this problem try to install this sim card in iphone and you can set the number from iphone setting -phone- my number .set you number after that install it in your samsung it should show your number . this is what i did with my s7 edge .
I have a gear s tmobile. Up until this past week I've been able to use the gear to initiate texts and all of the sudden this function has stopped. When I go into messages, compose and try to send a message I get this phone icon with a half circle in front of it as opposed to the arrow like it's loading or sending but it doesnt move or change and the texts don't send. When i turn off bluetooth and try to use mobile network or wifi i get the red square icon with the exclamation point. I cannot use s voice to initiate texts either though other s voice functions - ie call bill - works fine.
I can reply to texts as they come in all day. I suddenly just cannot start them on my gear. I have tweaked every option i could think of, rebooted, reset the watch, tried to switch from primary textra to primary Samsung messages, removed the sim card and so far nothing. Something wrong with my sim card or what?
***update*** it was the sim card. Not sure why texting worked at first then didn't but I had to log in and input the # on the sim card and reboot.
i dont have a sim. im using bluetoth with the same problems any help?
I know for me, I can't have airplane mode on and send messages. I can still receive them with it on though.

Thank you for the update. I am having the same issue except it affects calling only - I can not make any phone calls, and I can not receive any phone calls - I can text and use my data though like normal, but I can not make any phone calls nor can I receive any phone calls. You mentioned that you had to "log in" and "input the # on sim", and "reboot" -- would you please elaborate where you have to go to "log in" like on the: T-Mobile Website? Samsung Website? where do you "log in"?

Hey yes on T-Mobile website. My T-Mobile.. I forget the exact links but you click into your device and go from there.. Pretty sure there's a number on the sim and you input that and reboot. I called T-Mobile and they were pretty helpful if you get stuck.

Ok, I went on to the T-Mobile website, then created an account for my T-Mobile Samsung Gear S phone number under "My T-Mobile". However, when I log in to "My T-Mobile" I do not see anywhere listed a place where I can input the number on my SIM card. I tried looking under the submenus of: Billing, Usage, Plan, Phone, and Shop, but was not able to find the place where I could input the number on my SIM card -- where do I find the place to input the number on my SIM card?

Hey I poked around and nothing jumped out at me either. I'm currently using gear s2 so my settings may have changed (it has built in sim.) Give tmob a call and they'll help u. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
Ok, so if there's anyone out in the XDA community that can give me a hand, it would be greatly appreciated, so:
> I have a Verizon LG V10 990, brand new out of the box was on 10b(LP) and successfully updated to 11b(LP) and rooted. It is not carrier locked from service either.
> The phone is being used on Bell Mobility(Canada), and although I have created the proper mobile network to read Bell Mobility, it annoys me with "Not a Verizon Sim Card" notifications, and I'd like to fix this so it doesn't pop up(ever).
> I am also getting messages about the Mobile Hotspot being used without VzW Sim Card as well, annoying.
> If anyone has any information as to how to stop these notifications, and I don't care if I have to rewrite a permission or delete an apk to do it, please let me know. I love the phone and it works great, and just want the VZW notifications to stop... and if someone know how to remove the VZW boot animation(not that important though) please let me know.
>I'm not quite a weekend warrior when it comes to android, but I assure you I am not a developer, although I have rewritten permissions within the text editor options of files before, so I'm ok with that option if I need to do it.
* If this thread is in the wrong location on XDA, I apologize.*
If you have Xposed installed, you might try NotifyClean. I've used it successfully on several phones incl this one. It works great and can really clean up your status bar/notification drawer.
I'm trying to use a T-Mobile sim in a VS987 and I constantly get the following error message in my notifications: "Sim card is not from verizon wireless"
To make matters worse, every single time I open up a web browser the entire screen gets blurred and I'm hit with the error message: "No internet connection - please contact customer service at (800) 922-0204."
My mobile data works, and having to see that message every single time I open a web browser is very frustrating. I getting help from a few Verizon reps and the last one was such an asshole. When I didn't want to come back to Verizon he was pretty much like "there's nothing I can do", was incredibly aloof, and rude-toned.
Does anyone know how to get around this? All help would be appreciated. I just purchased this phone little over a month ago and I regret it so much that I cannot return it.

I already followed these instructions to get the data to work in the first place, however it didn't get rid of the message that prompts every time I open a web browser.

If you followed that it should work. You may need to do a factory reset if nothing else is working. I had a Verizon g5 before on t-mobiles network without any issues other than it telling me it's not a Verizon sim but data worked and I used browser without any message. I returned it though and ended up getting the t mobile version for root and custom ROMs.
