Asurion - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

How many people actually have asurion and have used them?. I am wondering if there is maybe a catch since they will send a new device for only 100 if a claim is submitted. Or is it better and cheaper just to get a good case and if there is a problem just change the part yourself.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

asurion is the worst company I have ever been associated with. there are endless stories of people who have been screwed by them. if you want insurance through Verizon they have some other companies you just have to ask. I think GWG is the one I switched, hell of a lot better. I pay roughly the same per year (difference is with asurion you can pay monthly) but you get 2 claims a year and they're actually new phones.
I'm really not one of those people that hates corporations etc. but asurion is at the top of my "evil company" list.

I'm waiting for my replacement now. Cracked my screen. I used them once before for my Galaxy Nexus. No issues then so I hope I have no issues this time around.

Best buy black tie FTW!! NO deductible.
I have had to use assurion before with sprint, went through 4 devices since I kept getting bad refurbs. But they payed for all shipping and all over nighted to me.

My current Note 2 is a replacement from Asurion. I got burned after buying a note 2 from someone I didnt know, after less than 12 hours of having the second hand phone, the touchscreen began to wig out even when I set it down. It was so bad that the phone was pretty much unusable. Luckily I had made a couple phone calls within the time of having it in a functional state and my records showed that it was my most current phone and Asurion replaced it as promised and on time. It was my second replacement within the time limit so I was cut off after that, but I am happy nonetheless. That was about four-ish months ago, and the phone has been perfect since.

OK. I have heard a lot of horror stories, and fairy tales about them

I used asurion to replace my wife's s3 after she dropped it in a river. I made the claim on a monday and recieved the phone the following day. It was pretty seamless and I didnt have any problems.

Got my replacement today and its new not a refurb. I'm actually surprised. Moved TWRP backup from the old phone to this one and I'm back like nothing happened. Except for that damn 99 bucks.

Walked into pool with my phone in pocket. Used asurion. No hassle. Got a refurb. next day. It has functioned flawlessly. I even kept my spen and back cover.

What insurance do you have on your SGS2???

I'm trying to figure out what was best in terms of insurance on the SGS2. AT&T is like $5.99/m I believe and requires a $200 deductible. Best Buy (where I got the phone) is like $9.99/m a month w/no deductible. Are their any more options and which are you guys using. I'm bit of a klutz and possibly a misplacer at times lol...don't think I would dish out the the retail for another one...thanks in advance!!!

Squaretrade offers warranties with ADH for a one time fee, its $125 for Android phones if I remember right, but you can usually find discount codes to get it cheaper, its a $50 deductible.
Sent from my Toshiba THRiVE using Tapatalk
Insured with squaretrade for about 3 years. Usually can find 30% off codes. Bought my GS2 with a claim on my Infuse 4G. I guess they didn't have parts yet so they sent me $599.99 and took longer than 5 days so they refunded what I paid for the warranty as well.
There's a company out there that covers lost/stolen phones but I don't remember the name
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I choose AT&T since it cover lost/stolen, that's my primary concern that I will leave the phone somewhere accidentally and forgot about it. Even though the deductible is $200, it beats paying $500 for anew one
OK thanks guys...squaretrade sounds kinda neat gonna look into it...but the Best Buy might be the best move because its automatically deducted from your account every month and it also covers lost/stolen/broken/water damage...and its no deductible and they give you a loaner until they get your claim filled...I had some Best Buy coverage on my Captivate I believe but the plan doesn't seem like the same one...Idk...but these devices are getting more and more costly and I just want to make sure I'm covered. It would suck to have anything less than this GS2 right now especially due to negligence. The att doesn't sound bad theoretically to me because its on my bill and I know I could possibly apply it to getting an upgraded device in the future if I ***** enough lol

I self insure. Cell phone insurance is a rip off.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I don't have insurance, but so far all the phones I've had haven't gotten damaged or lost, aside from my first 3GS (I had 2). It was lost, didn't have any tracking on it, so I lost it forever.
The only "insurance" I have is Cerberus. It's a cheap, one time fee of 6-7 dollars USD.

I'll agree that it's expensive but you have to know it gets abused like crazy. The prices reflect it. But I'm with you, no insurance here either.

So true. Had my Captivate well over a year and the only time I replaced it was when I had hard bricked it...and it was covered under the AT&T warranty (since I just told them it wouldn't turn on anymore). I kept it in a Body Glove skin which was great at shock absorbing...when I finally sold it it had no scratches or blemishes at all. It also was heavier than the SGS2 which helped me keep up with it in my belt pouch. This phone seems a lil fragile tho. I ordered a few rubber skins off Amazon and I plan on doing a little stress testing with each to determine whether or not I should even bother with the insurance at all.

Refurbished phones

My screen cracked and I had to make an insurance claim...I'm getting a refurbishes replacement...anyone have any bad experience with them?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
With this phone specifically? Yes. I returned my first one because it had a dead pixel, and the one they gave me had a broken USB port. It thinks its on a USB charger when it's on a wall charger, therefore making my phone charge slow. I also can't connect it to a computer I'm actually still using it too, I figured that I'd return it when something happens to it
The ducks symbolize death!
Through the 7 refurb captivates I had, and the two refurb I777's so far, all of them have looked and function brand new if not better.
My wife has one. 6 months and no issues to report.

Mine looked brand spanking new and hasn't had any issues at all. Best $10 I ever spent (that wasn't on a six pack hah).

I have a refurb i777 I got a while back. As far as I can tell, it's been perfect. I would actually almost rather have a refurb as a replacement than a new phone...the refurb units are put through much more rigorous testing before they're sold than the new units are.

Same here. No issues. Love this phone!
I tried to upgrade with a refurb I777. It was DOA when I received it. Wouldn't power on. I called ATT and told them about it and they sent another. It was also DOA and wouldn't power on. Sent them back and went to Sam's Club and bought a new one for $50. I've had other refurb phones and they were all fine. My wife's Cappy is a refurb and it's been flawless. I think for the most part they do pretty well but you may run into a few bad ones now and then.
Yeah once in awhile you'll hear problem reports but for the most part refurbs are just fine. My Blackberry Curve refurb I got like 4 years ago died a week after I got it. But ATT sent me another, only took 2 days to get it, and the replacement is actually still in excellent condition. Same happened to my fiances but second time was a charm for her too.

Broken screen after 2 weeks.

I just had a horrible experience today.
I was putting my phone on the fireplace and caught the corner on the edge of the phone.
You can imagine my shock when I looked at the screen and it has a number of cracks across it and looks shattered in the lower left corner.
This was only a slight tip but it still took out the screen.
Has anyone any idea how much it costs to replace the screen here in Ireland.
I only have the phone 2 weeks and this happened. I'm devastated.

Use your phone insurance to get it repaired. Job done.
I don't have phone insurance. Car phone wear house wanted €15 per month and I could not afford to pay that.
I was going to see if I could insure it now with a third party and leave it a week before reporting the problem.

I've no issue with you scamming an insurance company - I'm firmly of the belief that there is a special place in hell for those parasitic bastards. But if you do go legit, I'd expect to pay easily over €200. I had to replace my screen in Sweden and it set me back the equivalent of €300 so I would guess Ireland is probably not that far off.
fonefunshop.co.uk charges about €250 plus shipping I'd guess and will deal with customers in Ireland.
Found this on adverts.ie. €165 but that sounds very cheap considering that to buy replacement screens alone to fit yourself is more than that. Would be wary.
And what CFWH is doing is extortion.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
No it's not, it's insurance. That's how insurance works, if it was extortion they'd come round and break your phone if you didn't pay!

If you take it to a Samsung Repair Center it will cost £140.00 and they will repair it the same day. My cousin smashed his and that's how much they wanted to replace it. Buying it of eBay or going anywhere else will cost you more.

It's not really fraud if he pays for at least a month. After all how can you be charging £15 a month to insure a phone, that's terrible.
Do what you have to to get the phone looking great again.

How do you insure a product without some kind of product inspection of some sort? I don't do insurances, but it is stupid if companies offer insurances without examining the product in the first place.

Yes it is you pleb. It's fraud, end of. And the reason we're having to pay £15 a month is so that the insurance companies can recover some of the costs from people carrying out bogus claims like you're encouraging him to do.

I contacted Samsung Repair and they gave me the number for Fondmenders in the GPO. I called them and they will replace the screen for €160.00
Its going in on Thursday and should be ready Friday.
I also get insurance for €37.00 per year with Zurich so I'll keep that just in case something else happens to it another time.
€37.00 per year is a long way off what Car Phone Warehouse where charging.
Anyway I'll know on Friday if I get a happy ending.
Don't you have something like household insurance in Ireland?
Something similar happened to me.. 3 days after i got it, dropped it in SAND (yes, SAND!)
The edge on the left side got chipped, like a small paranthesis ( - it was outsided the used screen, in the space between the used screen and the edge.
However.. 2 days later.. it got stolen, i never got around to fix it
Now i've got a new one..

Look who's calling who the pleb, when my phone gets spoilt I buy a new one, I won't be insuring a phone for any reason.
And since I work for an insurance company don't tell me that the £15 recovers some costs because it's bs.
Don't take everything so seriously, the OP want going to take any of the bad advice anyway.

If your saying that what I was considering is fraud then what do you call it when the insurance company pay an uninsured no tax and no licence driver then put my premium up to cover the cost 3 fold.
Don't talk to me about insurance fraud when the biggest fraudsters are the insurance companies them self.
I have had lots of occasions when the insurance companies screwed me over.

Just to update on the broken screen.
My phone went in to FoneMenders in the GPO Arcade (http://fonemenders.ie/) yesterday morning at 9:30
They replaced the screen within the hour and only charged €159.99
I had got prices from other compaines as much as €270.00
The phone looks brand new so I'm over the moon with the repair, very professional.
I now also have a flip cover and screen protector on the device. Only short of wrapping it in bubble wrap
I really don't want to go down that road again.
I still have my insurance policy on the device so should anything happen again I have that to fall back on.
I'll never understand why people don't insure their phones straight away for this exact reason...

Because not everyone is in a country where they can get a reasonable premium for insuring certain goods.

Anybody ever went through HTC for repairs?

The evo lte on my line died about a week ago and I'm thinking about going through HTC since the phone is only 3 months old. I don't have time to stop at the sprint repair center near me and I honestly don't want to make time. Their new manager is a witch and I swore I'd never go back. Just would like to know a bit of htc's procedure (like do I have to come out of pocket) before I call their support number.

I upgraded with the one up program last night. The first sprint store i went to said that i needed to give my s3 back but the 2nd sprint store didnt say anything...
You only have to give back your phone I believe if you are still under a contract. I was not under a contract any more but traded my phone in under their buy back program because it's always a hassle to try to sell them on eBay and Craigslist.
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I did too. I should have put a junky old phone I had on the line and then upgraded because they would have taken that phone instread of the Windows.phone. good reminder to anyone with a spare old phone doesn't seem like sprint cares what phone you trade as long as.it is active on your accout.

I was under contract on both my lines (note 2 and s3). Had 11 months to go on one line, 8 months to go on the other. Esn swapped those lines to an evo 3d and a photon, went to the store an hour later, and did one up for 2 note 3s. Note 2 currently on craigslist, s3 will be once I replace the screen this weekend. Woot!
I also went with the One Up program since my normal upgrade wasn't available until 1-1-14. Very nice having to only pay $49 for the GN3!! Also I did NOT have to give them any device to start the One Up program! Not sure if it was because the device active on my line wasn't the device I bought at upgrade price which locked me into the 2 year contract, or what it was. I kept getting mixed answers whenever I asked a Sprint rep, either by 611 or at a local store. When a 611 rep told me I didn't have to give them my current device, I asked her to put a note on my account stating that I didn't have to just in case my local store told me I would have to on launch day.
$0 down was an amazing deal for those of us who took advantage of that offer while it was available!! Sprint is no longer doing $0 for the One Up program, and didn't really even advertise that they were doing $0 down! Just glad that I got in on that awesome deal!
