I wanted to install CM10.2.
my phone was stock Galaxy S3.
first, I rooted it- that went fine.
then, using ROMmanager, i've installed Clockworkmod Recovery- this was also successfull. i've managed to boot to that, and i also performed a complete backup. BUT I DIDNT HAVE IT FLASH THE ORIGINAL RECOVERY i.e. Odin download mode. (first mistake)*
then i copied the CM10.2 files to the phone, and used CWM to install it from .zip, but i forgot to WIPE the phone and FACTORY RESET first. (2nd mistake)**
now the commom problem occurs that after succefully installing CM10.2 it is stuck on the swirly cyan boot screen. but it doesnt go anywhere.
unfortunately when i try and enter recovery mode, it just goes back to the ODIN mode and i cant do anything.
PLEASE PLEASE. help me
*crying
Recovery is volume up + home + power
Download is volume down + home + power

Thank you thank you thank you
however stupid my assumption was, and however simple your answer,
you just saved my virtual life. THANK YOU
a new problem surfaces
now that i've been able to boot in recovery mode, i did wipe disk and factory reset.
but now i cant re-install the CM10, because the .zip file is no longer on the SD card (seems it's rather empty compared to before)
when i plug it in the computer, i dont see the device like before, so i cant copy files onto it.
what should i do?

On a general note, read my "understanding the basics before rooting" thread linked in there.

Im a noob, so basically I rooted my phone and went into CWM recovery to flash a new ROM but stupid me didnt back up my stock ROM, and also I totally fogot to download a Custom ROM onto my sd card, so I went into CWM and cleared cache, clear data/factory reset, and rebooted but then it kept turning on and kept on doing that, the samsung logo comes on then keeps repeating.
After I went in cwm again and clear davnik cache, wipe cache, wipe data/factory reset a load of time randomly but it still didnt work PLEASEE HELP IM A STUPID NOOB AND I only got this new!!!
you didnt flash anything so it should still be fine, just without your data, you can get into recovery or download mode why not flash a new rom in odin?,your phone is still fine.look for a stock rom to revert
Your phone will take 5 to 10 minutes to boot after clearing cache, so if you are sure your mobile doesn't boot after 10 minutes then you have two alternatives .
1. Boot into cwm, connect your mobile to PC, mount your sdcard via cwm, copy the custom rom and flash it.
2. Download a stock from and flash it via odin
#*posted on the move *#
Flash again
1. Download a new stock rom from samfirmware.com
2. Save it to your pc
3. Get odin 1.85
4. Put your phone in download mode make sure battery is at least 50%, by holding down volume down, power and home key
5. Once in download mode press volume up to continue
6. Now on your pc you installed open odin 1.85 open the program
7. Connect the usb cable to phone first then to your pc.
8. Wait for the first box in odin to come yellow
9. Once it does click on 'pda' and find the stock firmware you downloaded do remember do not extract it nothing.
10. Once you have selected the file it will appear in the PDA section sometimes depending on the stock rom there might be 3 files so you may need to put the other files in the section above and below PDA so make sure you read this before anything.
11. Once done click start
Once the box turns green it will say passed and your phone will reboot and you will have successfully installed the original firmware back again.
Anything you dont understand reply back.

I'm willing to DONATE and PAY for your time - to anyone that can put together a comprehensive set of information to assist me.
I have An At&t Galaxy Note with the 4.03 I717 UCLD3 version loaded on it. I have been toying around with rooting it, and trying to load custom roms, my head is spinning with all the posts.
I'm new, and like many people I have issues when I read the posts on this forum as there is no complete guide to load a new Root, find, and load a new ROM.
When the latest ICS was released a few weeks ago, I went to upgrade and my note will not upgrade with Kies since the counter has been tripped and it has the UCLD3 version on it.
Does anyone have the best ROM to load on the note, or can you explain in clear instructions how to get it back to 100% Stock so I can upgrade with At&t ( I'd rather not this approach, I'd love to get the junky At&t stuff off )
What I'm looking for:
1. A complete guide to root, and load a ROM that has everything the stock phone has, without the At&t bloatware ( IE: 4G, Spen support, compatible with samsung apps, keyboard etc.. )
2. A guide to bring the phone and counter back to 100% stock, so that it can be upgraded by Kies if no one can provide #1 above.
Thanks - I appreciate the help.
1. Get cwm HERE the Odin version.
2.once downloaded right click Odin and run as administrator, then click on the PDA slot and load the .tar you just got
(I'm sorry i don't have s link for Odin, shouldn't be too hard to find)
3 put phone in download mode by powering off, then holding volume down and power, then when prompted volume up.
4.connect to usb that's on a usb port in the back of the pc, no front ports or hubs.
5.when you get a yellow box with a :com: number in Odin hit start.
6a.(optional).no need to root first the Rom is rooted, only reason to root first is if you want to use titanium backup to save your apps and their settings.
For root, you'll need to find the su zip that's floating around and flash that in recovery first.
6b.(also optional)boot into recovery by holding all three buttons, both volume and power, then when you feel a vibrant let go of just the power button, go to backup and restore, abs make a nandroid backup of you're current set up.
7.go here for flappjaxxx latest stock based build.
Put that on your phone someplace you can get to without a bunch of navigating. Internal or external doesn't matter.
8.boot into recovery, go to wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache.
9.go to install zip for sdcard, now if you put the Rom on external the top option "from sdcard" is what you want. If internal the one on bottom that says "from internal sdcard" navigate to where you saved it, then confirm the flash.
Once done, boot into your new Rom and enjoy,
Not completely complete, but your welcome.
No donation needed, but i won't refund it if you were to feel the need lol
Agreed. I switched to twrp but cwm recovery is more user friendly/common
Pm me if you have any?s
ok 1st u will need to download this Root/CWM/ODIN
you will 1st need to put your phone into downlaod mode: power off phone - HOLD VOL DOWN + POWER, once you get the screen that shows Press VOL UP to get to download Mode, (make sure you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed) plug in USB, you will see the COM port in yellow (it does not matter which port number) then click on PDA and navigate to the cwm-touch-i717-120409.tar.md5 and click on start, you will reboot and you have CWM installed that is used to install roms and other stuff (to get in to CWM when device is powered off HOLD VOL UP + DOWN and press the POWER until u feel the 1st vibrate, once you see the 1st Samsung logo, u can let go), then flash Flash Counter Reset through CWM (this will reset your count in ODIN so it will not void warranty. I then use TWRP Recovery Instead of CWM i like the GUI better, just flash with CWM.
ROMS: no as for roms i love Hybrid roms, which makes it a tablet and Phone, i love Paranoid Android you can download here in either ICS or JB, these are already rooted so no need to do all then.
Instructions on Installing ROMS:
1. once you download the roms, move to External SD
2. make a back up with CWM or TWRP, just click on back up and u r done. on TWRP make sure to click on all boxes.
3. Once backed up u will want to do a factory reset, wipe dalvic Cache (in cwm it is under advanced) and wipe cache partition. (some roms will have different instructions but mainly the same)
4. once you r done flashing the rom. reboot and u r done
To Go back to stock you will go here: STOCK ROMS for i717 just download the one u want and you just flash it through ODIN, but if you have CWM or TWRP there is really no need for #2.
Need some help here...
I flash the cwm using odin but then it restarts the phone right after. Then I turn the phone off and go into recovery and I still see the stock recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW the flash count is also going up each time I do it.

OK, so my plan is to Flash my USA Galaxy Player 5.0 with Entropy's Kernel and Chip v1.5 ROM, and I think I've got the general idea down (first time at this, so this is still new and scary):
1) Backup data (Already done)
2) Factory Reset to clear out everything
3) Use Odin3 v1.7 to Flash Entropy's Kernel
4) Use Odin3 v1.7 to Flash Chip v1.5
5) Enjoy newly improved Galaxy Player, and begin the re-install process for all my apps.
The questions I have that I cant seem to get straight:
1) In the How To Flash with Odin/Heimdall tutorial, it says to use the .tar file for the ROM/Kernel. On Entropy's Kernel page, it has downloads for a .tar from back in January of this year, and a .zip from March. It looks like the march one is the latest updates, but how do I use them/install from a zip? I notice the instructions directly above the install, but as far as I can tell, there isn't a way to use CWM for the Galaxy Player. My Player is rooted, should I just go with the 'Any rooted device' instructions, using the .zip? Will that work for a first time?
2) Chip's instructions recommend re-installing the kernel again after flashing his mod. Has anyone found this advice helpful? If so, should I try using Odin to do it or the terminal emulator?
3) I want to re-install Swype and some of the default stuff after installing Chip v1.5, thus Addon Pack 1 is needed. Again, it says flash with CWM, and it's a zip file...
That's all I can think of right now. I know I'm being overcautious, and after the first time or two I won't think hardly anything of these details I'm asking for, but for right now I'd really appreciate any help I can get!
the only thing i used odin (make sure youre in download mode of course) for was to flash entropys .tar file (DD_01142012.tar) which now lets you have cwm recovery on your device. and then i rebooted put entropys DD_03052012.zip onto my sdcard, and i also put chip1.5-1-signed.zip onto sdcard in same spot. then i rebooted into cwm mode by powering off and then holding power and vol+ button together till u see first samsung screen then let go of power button but not vol+button, when u see cwm menu then u can let go. then i scrolled down to 'install zip from sdcard' and click on it and goto the DD_03052012 first and install that, once thats finished, then i installed chips rom, and did entropys kernel again (just in case he says) then just reboot from the cwm menu. dont forget to make nand backup after you have chip installed just in case, or even make a nand backup before chip installation, or both its up to u, i did both just cuz. :highfive:
So everything looked like it was going good, then I got into a boot loop right after I installed Chip v1.5. I'm trying to go through the instructions to fix that now, but before that everything was nice and easy. Thanks for your help!
Did u do a wipe data and clear caches before chip? If u haven't then do it now and reinstall everyhing

For those who might be reading this in the future, to clear the boot loop I used the instructions here, which got my Player back to factory settings (it was more of a hassle to download the recovery ROM than it was to actually restore the Player). I re-tried installing, got boot looped again, then went to CWM ->Advanced ->Clear Delvik Cache . I remembered seeing this in the other instructions, I just mistook it for deleting the normal cache/data. Once I deleted it things worked fine, and things are looking good so far!
Moral of the story: Installing custom ROMs is easier than you think, although there are some little things that might trip you up for a little bit.

Whipe everything and dalwick cashe also..and then wait ,first boot is always longer because its formating cashe.
But if you dont have cwm and you want to flash some kernel which is in boot.img format packed in zip (i had few situations like that when i could not enter cwm ) since SGP dont have fastboot mode only way to flash it is try Odin ,download samsung note 2 tools (find it on xda ,there is thread for that) and with that tool you can convert .img to Tar ,just before conversion you rename boot.img in to zImage ..after it creates tar you can flash it with odin normaly ( add in pit section)

I'm fairly certain you flash .tar files with odin, and .zip files in clockworkmod recovery. If you need cwm, you can flash a custom kernel with it installed already through odin. Try terrasilent or steve's kernel if you have the 4.0, for the 5.0 I'm not sure.
flashing cm 10.1 with odin, can i and how
[can anyone answer this question for me, I have the vibrant t959 and my power button is dead. I can use my phone all works fine but what I cant do is flash rom with cw cause of the power button. is their a way to flash cm 10.1 with odin or other way that u don't need a power button?
please help
Today I rooted my phone, which was successful. I had the ME7 build. Then I tried to install Google Wallet using this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42029814) and I installed a custom recovery. Then I tried to install a custom recovery. I downloaded Goo manager (or whatever it's called) and did a menu click and installed "OpenRecovery Script" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292565)
And that is where I think I messed up. After I downloaded it, I selected 'reboot recovery' in Goo Manager and then I came to the Green android guy that says Download on it. So cool I figured I would just use Odin to put it back to stock. And for some reason it failed and now it says "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
And that's where I'm stuck. My phone can't seem to connect with Kies and doesn't show up in the list when I go to Tools>Firmware Emergency Recovery.
So any help at all would be greatly appreciated! I assume I can't send it back because the phone's been rooted.
Thank you all again!
A little bit of reading goes a long way. There is a ton of posts and questions asked about this. You cant install a custom recovery on me7. There is only root. For some you can shut the phone all the way off. Use the button combo to boot into download mode and then decline and the phone should boot normally. Everytime you reboot youll have to do it that way so eventually your either going to have flash the stock recovery via odin, dont know where there is one posted but ive seen it on the forums before. Or youll have to use odin and reflash the stock me7 image. You cant flash the mdk image. The odin images and guides are located in the dev section.

I figured it out. I was being stupid and holding down the wrong keys for recovery. The keys are: Volume Down + Home + Power, and letting go of Power as soon as it vibrates. And it turns out I was trying to flash the wrong file... stupid me. But just make sure you'er flashing the right file in Odin and it should work.
I accidentally wiped internal storage and system using TWRP on my Sprint Galaxy S6 Edge, and this deleted my operating system. Now, when I reboot to system, it starts turning on but then just boots into recovery. I need to flash the stock rom onto my phone, how can I do so? I have it downloaded on my computer, but how can I get it onto my phone so I can use TWRP's installation? Is there another way to flash it from computer to phone? Thanks a ton
First of all I would like to tell that if you are rooting your device or installing 3rd party recovery you should know how to fix the bootloop, know that you are throwing away the warranty of your device and you might ended up bricking your device you should be more responsible!. Okay here's what you need and what you gonna do 1st of all search for your rom around samfirmware or other sites. I can't post you all the details but Google is your friend. After you already download the rom search for Samsung USB drivers install it to your pc then look for Odin. Turn off your fon and press volume down + menu and power key it will reboot to download via Odin flash your rom and wait to boot. That's all. You should also search around here for your answer already post some person many times

you can likely also use Heimdall but you make have to extract the OTA package first. you can use the hardware keys to boot into "download mode" and then you should be able to restore the device.
