Just recently my top button to unlock and power up my phone has been sucking....I have to push it much much harder than you should have to. I can no longer turn on the phone with one hand unless the bottom of the phone is pushing against something else.
Is there any fix for this? Or should I start looking for something to make my camera button do this job or something?
Running MeanBean by the way if that matters.
Thanks.

In saw a thread a long time ago where a guy used clear nail polish on the button to make it stand up higher. Or that not the problem, it's just really hard to push?

Anyone come across a broken power button? It seems like it "caved" in and to operate it, I have to use my fingernail and press very hard. Is there any way to remap the power button function to a different button or at least the screen off/on function?
Lastly, If I decide to bring it in to Verizon for repair/replacement do I need to remove the DCD Rom (awesome by the way, thanks for all of the hard work) and bring it back to original spec?
Thanks to any and all.....

Yes flash it back to stock. Put on a SD Card. I did it to mine that way from the ROM on the WIKI Site

Ya, try this app.... Works great....
Thanks azclown, that program certainly helps deal with this issue. I know there is a way to then map this to a key...the whole program or just the display function? Thanks again.
The bottom row of keys on my xv6800 have all but stoped working. What i'm wondering is, is there a way to backup everything, from the device, the rom and all to restore back to the device?

I had the same problem with one of my side buttons... they sent me refurb np.
You should def be sure to knock that back to stock and relock it... I haven't actually heard of anyone getting "busted" sending back a hacked ROM on their device, but I'm sure if someone is bein' finicky they could def nail you on warranty void and charge you for a replacement.
My power button recently stopped working. Luckily MeanROM allows you to wake the phone using the camera button. I decided I was going to go to Sprint to get the phone replaced. I began to follow the procedures for REGAW S-ON to restore it to stock as to not have any problems with Sprint. After running the RUU it left my phone in the bootloader, where I cannot get out of since I cannot select a command with the power button.
Anybody? I'm pretty much without a phone right now and am afraid that if the phone's battery dies I won't be able to turn it on at all. Right now its on stuck in the bootloader...
UPDATE: Phone is no longer on, the battery died. Is there a way to turn it on without the power button??
its risky because I dont know this for certain as Ive never attempted it but you should be able to load an update.zip or pmg.zip to your sd, although trying to get the phone to recognize it is a different matter, you would need to somehow power cycle. I know there is an easy solution to this I just cant think of it
edit: this is just me because I can be very stubborn but you could jab and poke and prod the power button mercilessly until it jumps into fastboot....that is if bootloader is still unlocked.....darn, this is a hard one
If the phone dies and I take it to Sprint, is there any way they can turn it back on? Or can I just tell them the power button does not work and they warranty it...
The repair center may try to clean or replace the power button and then power on the device, which may or may not lead to a very confused and possibly scared tech

I've seen it, a new tech or one unfamiliar with custom ROMs or inexperienced in physical repair will sometimes get scared thinking they are at fault when they see tampered or unlocked or just plain see the bootloader
At this point I'm hoping the tech freaks out and thinks he broke the phone, that way I'll get my warranty

I was trying to think of a good use case for adb and the OP has given it to me, thank you
Hello all,
I am fairly experienced at flashing ROMs/Kernels on other phones, but I have to say I've never attempted one that I couldn't pull the battery if something got caught in a bootloop or froze up on me.
I am preparing myself for an unlock/root/recovery etc. install and trying to get my ducks in a row before hand.
Maybe I'm being overcautious, but what would be the best resolution to a bootlooped or frozen phone? I want to make sure I'm not going to brick anything easily (I know it can't be completely avoided since I'm mucking about in the system, but I like to reduce the chances as much as possible).
I assume I want to try and give things as much time as possible when installing if something freezes, but what's the best solution to restarting a process if it sticks or loops somewhere? Power button and go back to recovery? Simple long power button press and start process over again? Am I being too cautious?
Thanks for any help.
Native ability to power cycle is built in. Holding the power button for ten seconds will reboot no matter the circumstance unless bricked.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I can't even count the number of times while flashing something to my DNA that it has frozen. Don't be afraid to hold the power button down until it turns off. Then just start your process all over again. And I'm sure you know what to do if it freezes up again
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
as long as the front three controls start flashing when you hold the power button, you're good and it'll reboot.
also, once you have a recovery installed. MAKE A BACKUP!
Also if you get stuck, ask pros in this chat before you do anything that might brick your device. http://chat.andirc.net:8080/?channels=#droid-dna
Thanks for the info all.

Yes, I've read lots of posts regarding the bootlooping, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to find the "correct" way to restart the process. Thanks!

Always! One of the first things I do... Learned that one early on the hard way.
my display shattered. the phone turns on and makes noises, i still get calls and texts, but the display is dark and unresponsive. i can access the memory and plug it into a computer. ive already backed up all my data and taken everything off the phone. i know i have to do something with ODIN to flash the factory image but i dont know how especially with the screen off. the phone boots fine and all buttons are working. im about to leave for a trip and i need to get this unrooted and clean so i can send it in on warranty as soon as possible. i need detailed instructions as i have no ide what im doing.

Turn it off and then hold down and power button. Give it about 5 seconds then press up. You should be in download mode then flash away via odin. If you dont know how to flash using odin theres a short guide in the thread where you get the factory images. Next time you root a device I HIGHLY recommend taking an extra 5 minutes and read on how to restore/reset/fix the device. Theres WAY to many root happy people that root their devices right out the gate but dont read on how to fix the device if something happens. I dont understand it..
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
i tried that but for some reason it just boots normally.

I would try a battery pull and see if it does the same thing.
Edit:
You can also try holding power and vol down as soon as yoh feel it vibrate let go of power. Give it about 5 seconds then press up.

Honestly ? Fix it. The reasons should be obvious (and relate to recovery from any dramas you might end up having, which happen to all of us at one point or another).
Swichr is an app that replaces home button. You swipe from the screen corner and get a menu with recent apps and a home button on the top. Here it is on the Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mohammad.adib.switchr
You can try a custom rom that has on screen navbar option. I saw this option on Dirty Unicorns but I dont use the option. Im sure other Roms has it also.
use pie

@MistahBungle is right.......there WILL come a time when you need a home button, and when that happens a 'virtual' button just won't help.......
Best advice....get it replaced....
If you can get it done under Samsung's 2 year warranty, all the better, as replacing the button involves removing the screen....which WILL break.....
Sent from my Infected KitKat bar.....
LMT launcher, in Android hacking/app and games. I use it, it's better than pie in every respect IMO.
And no matter what happens, you DON'T need a home button, worst possible case scenario you reboot Cwm and back up, to restore later or reinstall a new rom
and add lwt launcher straight away.
Try "PIMP MY ROM" from google store,it has an option to enable homescreen buttons.
All these people telling the OP about different ROMs and apps need to stop and think......
What good will ANY of them do if the OP's phone won't boot and the only way to get it running will be to use the button combo to get into recovery to wipe data and/or flash a new ROM?....will any of these mods or tweaks help then?.......
And to the poster who said "you'll NEVER NEED a home button"....you can believe that if you want, but don't try to get others to believe a statement that is so obviously blatantly wrong........

Ok, kindly explain YOUR blatantly wrong post. My home button broke 18 months ago, and not once has it made the SLIGHTEST difference to me using navbars/on screen buttons. I flash 2 roms at least a week and have no issue at all.
So, Mr. Knowledge , when would the lack of a physical home button actually matter? bearing in mind it has never affected me. I'm genuinely interested.

Likewise, a 'clown' ? care to elaborate or just throw unnecessary comments around? As said, my home button doesnt work and hasnt done. So my comment 'you dont need a physical home button' is 100% true.
You my friend, seem to be the only clown on here, recommending he tries a physical repair when an app, a free app at that, can do all he asked it to do,
Bearing in mind again, you can actually BUY real phones from REAL shops that come, as STANDARD with no physical home button, or buttons at all, using a navbar. Cant believe these manufacturers have been so stupid to release these products without checking with you guys first.....

Are you really that dim?.......
How about this then........
The phone does not boot.....
so that makes your 'free app' about as much use as a chocolate teapot......
The only way to get it up and running is to factory reset/wipe the device or flash a firmware via Odin.
You need to access recovery or download mode.
How do you do that?.......
By pressing "power" (you've guessed it) "HOME" and either "vol up" or "vol down" keys together........
HOW YOU GONNA DO THAT IF YOUR HOME BUTTON'S SC**WED?
So me? blatantly wrong? I DON'T THINK SO.......
And about "clown"......if the cap fits, wear it.......

Sigh......
power/reboot/reboot recovery/dowmload.....
then CWM doesnt need home, nor odin.... then reboot.
I say again, 18months with no home button, has not affected me once. You may THINK it does, but I KNOW it doesnt. Failing that, Enable debugging, adb can be used when the animation starts, so, simply do adb reboot recovery/download.
Sigh........
Power/reboot/recovery/download options DO NOT appear on STOCK shutdown menu. Admittedly you won't have cwm on stock, but you still have the option to factory reset......
So still wanna tell me you DON'T need a home button?.....
Somebody needs to do some research methinks......

I'm not saying it's easier, or not a faff. I'm saying I had no confidence opening up my phone to replace parts. This solution yes, takes longer and us annoying but does work, it is working on my phone now. I'd rather this than attempt a repair and completely break my phone, or pay someone to do it.
So tell me how YOU'D recover an unbootable totally stock phone without a functioning home button........

Firstly, the OP hasnt said its unbootable, and has a rom running. Therefore can advanced power menu. with exposed if on a stock rom, easy.
Second, can add the navbar/LMP app whatever....
Then can if need be boot to logo and adb reboot recovery.
recovery doesnt need the home button.
IF this cant be done, which has never been mentioned, then yes. He pretty much needs to replace the button. But it hasnt been mentioned, so therefore all my advice is perfectly sound UNTIL it wont boot at all.
THEN he is screwed
So.....are you still maintaining that you'll NEVER NEED a home button?
