I have SII international with Stock JB 4.1.2
the issue i'm facing is, play store fails to recognize updates for all google apps like maps, youtube, keep even play store itself. i had to manually download apks from androidpolice to update them.

Try clearing app data and caches of Playstore and Google Play Services, then reboot and see. :good:

Hi I got a Brand new Samsung Galaxy Mini 2, great device, everything is perfect only problem I got is that when I'm in Google Play and want to look at the screenshots of an app, and swipe between them the device freezes, then vibrates and sends me back to Google Play, sometimes it gives me an error message, I have done like 3 factory resets but it doesn't fix it, any recommendations?
Thank You
Someone?

I'm on the latest, which is 3.9.16. I have noticed that if the screenshots on google play are in landscape, there is no problem switching between them (eg. Nova), and if I hold the device sideways, I can switch between the screens even if they are portrait screenshots with no problem, wondering if there es a problem with the screen size, everything in any other app is perfect, I tried viewing pictures on the IMDB app and works perfect is just when clicking the images on google play.
thanks.
OK, the problem is related to google play 3.9.16, I know because in manage applicationd I uninstalled google play updates so it went to a previous version, and it works perfect, the problem is that it updates by itself back to 3.9.16 and the problem comes back. any ideas? maybe a way to stop it from updating?
Thanks

You can use Titanium Backup to keep it form Updating. Or you can go into Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage applications - Market Updater. Then Force Stop it from there. But I think you might also just want to try the latest version of the Play Store. You can find it v3.9.17 HERE. The article has the Download links, and info on what's new.
i have a Galaxy Ace GT-S5839i on stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 with Google Play Store v4.0.27, which keeps auto-updating itself despite uninstalling the updates (to free up my internal memory) many times.
How can I stop/disable the update of Google Play Store?

thank you very much... ingenious solution :good: hopefully all my google bloatware updates can be blocked this way.
not only was play store update taking another 15m, but there was another garbageware silently installing called play services taking up over 50m and not just disk-space but cpu started to crawl too

i did try that, but eventually at sometime i'd need to enable background data for syncing my contacts & calendar, which are the only two things i use in google.
wonder why google can't create simple apps without trashing the entire android eco-system? hopefully amazon phones might give them some competition.

Hi Veloo,
yes, indeed the same trick can be used to prevent too the update of Google Play Service, as I posted here:
[TRICK] How to avoid Google Play Service update
Though some people say that Google Play Service isn't *really* a core service as stated by Google.
The fact is that Google Play Service provides a set of functionalities that any apps might want to use or even need to use in order to function properly.
But that's completely up to how the app is been written by the developer; so in case Google Play Service is uninstalled some apps can work properly without a issue, others might show some minor issues that still doesn't prevent the app to perform its main task, others might not work at all.
But, according to what I've read, mainly all system apps and even Google Play Store aren't badly affected by the absence of Google Play Service.
Anyway here is a good hint from xda-developers recognized contributor marcussmith2626

What I used to do was uninstall the Google play services
Then open YouTube
It will say you have to install Google play services
Click the link to install it & it will allow you to download it from the playstore
You can then move or link it to sd card with link2sd
I prefer always having the latest versions of apps as they tend to eliminate bugs - yes it might be a larger file size but you can move or link the apk to sd

thank you again! i've managed to survive without play services so far. I definitely do not update apps, unless they become smaller. I don't need bloatwares with more features. I also replace apps, soon as I find a smaller app! and so i find myself moving away from all the google apps.. far better, simpler, smaller & more efficient alternatives. and to think Iwas one of the early google adopters. those old google apps were so much smaller in size, in kb really
First thanks for the starting this thread to get complete solution on how to stop automatic apps updates on android smartphone. After reading all comment i have done this and get the full result on this..
sad google updates have become so big that my phone just doesn't have the space! #TBTF #Bloatware
thankfully i've survived so far without google play services..
I've recently realised that apps I've downloaded outside of the Google play store (Apks from Internet) , but are in the play store market don't auto-update, the playstore doesn't even give me the ability to update them. This might be quite blatant, but is there a way to update my APKs from the Google play store, which have not been downloaded from the Google play store, or is the only option to manually downloaded updated versions from the Internet, thanks.
To update with the PlayStore they have to be gotten from the PlayStore. They don't update outside apps due to many security issues and no way to link them.
I am on Chinese stock EUI 20S. I downloaded play store from Lestore. It cannot recognize my purchased apps. It asked me to buy them again. Should I install other play store manually? Thanks.

Same happened to me. To fix it go to settings/app management /Google play store/storage and clear data and cache. Then when you open play store again it will ask you to log in again. It should now show purchased items again.

Things work ok. Only issues I have is sometimes Gmail won't sync until I manually do it and other times it works fine. It sends texts several times sometimes and some don't come through but that could also be an EE issue where I am as it constantly switches from 4g to 3g to 2g as on edge of good reception so my not be a phone issue at all.
I just realized with the new play store apk, using the search bar again when you have previously searched will crash the app (the search field is populated)
play store version 25.5.27-21
uninstalling the updates to roll back to the default version doesnt have this issue, but the play store app will update itself again back to the latest
anyone has a fix?

i thought it was a corrupted system issue but turns out its not
For anyone who sees this, I have already tried a few things with NO solution (except downgrading play store version)
FYI these do not work:
-Clearing play store data
-Factory Reset
-Flashing stock V600TM20f KDZ
-Downgrading Webview, chrome and Play services

During the first two weeks it was driving me mad. But now that my phone's mostly setup, I've learned to live with it.
