I've given up on the 32GB White Frost ever seeing the light of day at AT&T.
I'm intrigued by the new Mega 6.3 though it only has 16GB internal memory.
Am I comparing apples to oranges when looking at these two phones?

In my opinion, actual daily performance won't be much different except for the Mega having a much bigger screen. Samsung was even caught calling the Mega 6.3 as Samsung Galaxy S4 Mega in one of their app updates that ties in with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini which also has different specs to the original S4.
* Screen - the Mega might have lower resolution but the SC LCD is brighter and has more accurate colors than S4's AMOLED. You might be like most people who never want to go back to smaller screens after experiencing bigger ones because it will feel like a downgrade.
* CPU/GPU/RAM - the S4 will be faster in benchmarks as the specs is better but the Mega is not far behind in terms of actual daily use. It's difficult to find an app that won't run on the Mega the same way it will on the S4.
* Features - the features taken away from the Mega to make it look inferior to the S4 are not very important (S Health, photo modes, eye scrolling, etc) and the features left are better (IR blaster, Adapt Sound, NFC, works with gloves, etc)
* Price - the Mega is a mid-range phone which tends to give more value than high end phones which get high specs with less real life advantage. This includes more megapixels, more PPI, more Ghz, more GBs, etc. Most people pay for the extra power which they don't need/use.
In short, it's a great phone if it suits your needs.

Thanks for the very informative reply. It was very helpful.
One final question. I kept holding out for AT&T to get the S4 32GB in the color I wanted but that's not going to happen. Do you feel that I'm going to be faced with the same drawbacks going with a 16GB Mega as I would with an S4?

Got it. Ran into 'out of memory' problems at times due to so much bloatware hogging internal memory.

If you don't want to root you're pretty well stuck with the internal memory for apps, there's no way to move apps to sd currently without root.

That would be something to see. I just don't understand why Samsung would let you stick a huge sd card in but cripple the device by not letting you make proper use of it. I paid for it, they have my money already, why should they care how I set it up for use?

I think it's Google who prevented the moving off the app to the SD card on Android 4.2 and up. Samsung even released an update on the S4 to bypass this but it won't move large data of apps. Hopefully Google will change this on the next version of Android and/or Samsung will put 32GB as minimum internal storage after complaints about Touchwiz eating too much of it.

Think you're right. If the analysts are right Samsung will be moving away from Google soon. That will certainly turn the phone market upside down! I see no reason for any smartphone to have less than 32GB internal memory period.

I think minimum should be 32GB internal memory as Full HD movies and 13MP photos need more space to store. They make phones with 1080p screens and high megapixel cameras, then put 8GB/16GB memory to play with which doesn't make sense.

Here in the UK the price difference of the Mega and the S4 is around $200 unlocked so it's a much easier choice.

Hey guys, this is the reason I didn't pick up a One X. I'm waiting for the quad core CPU with LTE compatibility, removable battery and expandable memory.
Do you think the One X+ will fit these criteria? If the battery is over 2200 Mah I don't really care about Removable battery. But an 1800Mah, I mean come on HTC.

The battery isn't bad now either, only charge it at night, about 3-4 hours onscreen time, unless you are a gamer ofc.
What are you planning on putting on your sdcard, isn't 32GB enough? I have about 10GB free, multiple movies and episodes of series. About 15 games, and maybe 30 apps on it.
The only reason I see is LTE and upgraded CPU, however with Faux kernel my phone is max 1,5GHz at Quad-Core, and if you are lucky and get a variant 3 it works at 1,6GHz Quad-Core.
And there's no chance that it's gonna have removable battery, maybe a removable sdcard at most. I'm pretty damn sure they are gonna stick with unibody design, it's sexy as hell!

There's only three hard facts. Everything else is heresay. Fact 1: There's an Evita (XL) variant with a 1.7GHz Teg3 chip and Nvidia Icera LTE radio running JB that's been seen in benchmarks during its testing. It's going to be an AT&T phone. Fact 2: T-Mobile U.S. is going to launch a new HTC phone with a sales code of Era42 in September. Fact 3: A 5" 1080P HTC phablet has shown up in benchmarks during testing heading to Verizon.
Stuff in the UK has said they've heard from "insiders" that there will a C2 version of the One X (Endeavor HSPA) that will have a 1.7GHz Teg3 chip and an "improved" battery coming in October. If you believe that they also said that it will work with existing accessories so don't expect any physical changes like a removable SD card.
I think it will get the evo 4g battery not removable plus SD card slot.

I'm really looking forward to the so rumored 5' HD Quad Krait HTC phablet, but One X+ came out sooner.
Got me with my hand tied, i will try to take it easy and wait for the 5' HD Phablet, but I really need to replace my good old Desire HD.

Yep, I am almost in the same position as you, so close to buying the LTE Samsung (except I hate the screen colours "The Only Reason") I am a photographer and like to show case some of my photos on the phone.
I need a phone very soon to replace my lost phone, and some things just bug me with HTC, not international LTE in there flagship phone like most other manufacturers. And the lack of SD card, may be I wouldn't care if the device supported USB 3, so I could upload my music collection in 2 hours (card reader) vs a whole day (through phone). I have always taken my class 10 card out of the phone to transfer files with my USB 3 UDMA card reader because it takes far less time and I can continue to use the phone and take it around while I am waiting for the transfer to complete.

Hey, so right now I'm currently using a galaxy nexus and thinking about switching back to the Evo, but one thing that I hate is how HTC partitions the storage. I love how on the nexus and gsiii your storage space is shared between apps, and the sdcard. Is there anyway to do that on the Evo, rather than having the 2GB app space, and 9 GB sdcard. I played with the vold.fstab file before but couldn't do too much, other then switching mounting points.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
lol so I guess not.
Nothing that we, as a forum, are aware of. The only thing that we can do is swap mount points like you said (make your SD card your "internal memory" and have apps store there) but there's no (current) way of re-partitioning the storage room.
Apps usually pretty small, and you can move most of them to the 9GB partition. I don't think there is much danger of running out of space even with the 2GB partition. Are you actually worried about running out of space for apps?

Haha, no, I actually had the Evo LTE for about a month and even after downloading millions of apps, I still had 1 Gig left. I recently traded it for a Galaxy Nexus, which I noticed how the app space was formatted. However, when I guess when you break it down, it just comes down to having 16gb vs 32gb internal storage space. Lol, I don't know, I'm thinking about switching back the Evo, I wanted to try something different for a little while because all my android phones been HTC phones. I think the software on the Galaxy Nexus, along with development is the bomb, yet the camera and battery life sucks compared to the Evo, and no kickstand . Sorry, I digress lol.

Rogers seems to suggest that it doesn't have a micro sd slot, but has 32GB built in storage only.
Also, like the Galaxy S (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) series, it seems they will be branding at least a couple of different models as the Optimus G; the AT&T version is the E970 (once rumored to be LG Eclipse?) where I believe the Rogers version will be the E973. Like CXENTE, I'd rather have a micro sd slot rather than the 13MP camera.

13MP on a PHONE???? That's overkill. If you need that pixels, you also need a real lens system.
No removable storage... almost unforgivable. I've got a 32GB mSD already. I'm coming from an HTC Inc, and almost nothing used the internal storage (/mnt/emmc). So, I would rather have 2-4GB internal and a mSD slot.
I'm concerned about the battery... I've had to do the battery yank quite a few times, so .....?
Give me root. CM10 would be nice. Then I'll be "super" happy.

probably different antennas and what not, for Att and maybe something to do with the micro sd card, that's only one 1mm wider or .040 of inch thats, not that much unless, you have little hands then maybe, I work with .001 of inch everyday and .040 isn`t much.
Just like to say, I have the phone now for the past 6 hours and it fits my hands great, I haven't had any issues yet with the screen size or anything. And yes not only does it come with a micro sd slot but it also had a 16GB sd card in it out of the box. It came with no headset though just the sd card and charger, also it does have a 8mp camera but it sure seems to take nice pictures.
Hey everyone, I've encountered a little nuisance with my HTC One.
Under Storage the phone claims around 7GB is in use under "Other". However, when I plug the device into my computer via USB, I can't find any directories that are taking up this amount of space using Windows Explorer or Android Commander, which lets me down into the root of the filesystem.
FYI, I have Nova Launcher active as my primary UI, so I'm not even using Sense 5 at the moment. I know that 7GB can't just be Sense 5 + Built-in apps.
Anyone else seeing this and know what it is?
It actually probably is just Sense 5 and the AT&T bloat apps. Apparently Android along with the manufacturer's skins are pretty large now. Then add AT&T's useless apps that literally no one uses and you have 7gbs of storage being consumed. This is one of the reasons I'm going with the 64gb.

That's asinine that it reserves that much storage... Completely inexcusable when you factor in the lack of an SD card. Epic fail.
I think HTC realized that since they are releasing the Chinese version WITH microSD support... >_<
At least they aren't pulling the crap they used to - like with the Inspire - saying it had 4GB of storage but then formatting it for speed, dropping it to 2GB and leaving 1.3GB or so to the end user...
Still what the hell would they reserve a quarter of the storage for?!
im guessing the extra 9 GB that are part of my "other" are the SD card data for some of the apps i have installed. but it still seems excessive.
Ugh, now we're seeing the ugly side of the HTC One. I don't think I'm going to keep mine now. I can't justify 7GB of my 32GB taken up by the system when I don't even use Sense 5 or any of the AT&T apps. Especially since I can't add more space to the phone, it's just not a good deal for me.
It's a shame too, it's a sexy device.

Yeah but have fun finding one that isn't a 16gb version. I played with both phones today. The HTC One is superior in almost every area. I wouldn't really consider the S4.

Ok. Take in mind that this is from someone who was dead set on getting the S4 only a week ago. I also want to add that my non-tech-savvy iPhone-using mother was with me at the AT&T store while I was comparing phones and also agreed that the One is better.
1. The screen is smaller on the One but it has better color reproduction and, when playing the trailer for 'Star Trek Into Darkness' on both devices, produced clearer results.
2. The One's software is much more optimized and runs smoother than that on the S4. In my half an hour of constant use with both devices, the One maybe had three instances of minor lag while the S4 produced lag (sometimes major lag) every few seconds. The S4's lag was most prominent when multitasking, hitting the back button, or going home. Switching between home screens produced some stuttering but was not terrible.
3. Speaking of software, the "features" on the S4 aren't that great. Probably the most difficult thing about using the S4 was trying out the Smart features. Many of them were pretty useless such as scrolling through web pages with hand gestures. However, it did actually work and work pretty well. I also really liked having the ability to answer the phone by waving in front of the phone and seeing some general information displayed on the phone after waving my hand in front of it while it was sleeping. But that's about as useful as it gets. I could never get Eye Tracking to work. Some kid beside me finally did after nearly a minute and a half of working with it which completely defeats the purpose of using it in the first place. None of the other features really worked well either making me wonder why Samsung decided to add them to the device and bog it down in the first place.
4. Build materials are pretty bland on the S4. I'm not going to criticize them for using plastic because plastic is durable enough, but I am going to criticize them for not really differentiating the phone from the S3 in terms of look. I was, however, impressed with how they implemented the 5" screen into such a compact and usable package, but that's about it. The S4 is no looker. My mom was also not a fan of the design, thinking at first that the hyper glazed finish was some sort of case and not the actual design.
5. Sound quality through the headphones was good on both devices but better on the One due to its added amplifier. The S4 had definitely improved over the S3 and maintained a pretty loud volume. The One was slightly louder and produced more dynamic results with great highs and lows. The average person would be happy with the sound quality from either, though.
6. The general Android apps such as Texting and Email are hardly changed on the S4. For some users, this will be fine. But, personally, I hate the stock Android Messaging app. I have a Nexus 4 and have used GoSMS since the day I purchased it. I don't understand why anyone would want to view a multiple picture MMS like a slideshow instead of each photo separately. Thankfully, the One does exactly that and has a rather perfect Messaging app. Of course, you can always download GoSMS or Handcent or something from the Play store, but the fact that this won't be necessary on the One is nice.
7. This is picky, but I really liked the One's keyboard. Like, a lot. I've been a stock Android keyboard user since ICS and I didn't think that choice would change with the purchase of any new phone. But the keyboard on the One is nice. Really nice. I almost never made mistakes on the keyboard when using it. On the S4, I couldn't stop making mistakes. If you're just going to use SwiftKey or the stock Android keyboard, this probably isn't a huge deal to you. But I found it shocking that I loved the One's keyboard.
So, yeah. This is a huge post but those are my honest opinions. I was as subjective as I possibly could be and my honest opinion is that the One is the better phone.

The storage space being reflected in Other is from App Data.
HTC's storage doesn't give the user a run-down of the apps that are classified as Other when you select Other.
If I go to Storage on my Galaxy Note 10.1, and push Other (on the Galaxy Note 10.1, it is classified as Miscellaneous Files), I am given a run-down of the all of the app data that is classified as Other/Miscellaneous.
The Galaxy S3 (which I switched from to get The One) has it's storage implemented in the same way on the stock ROM.

Exactly, specifically the /data/data folder.
Whoever said it's the system partition is incorrect.
BTW, when you buy a 32GB device, that means 32GB total NAND storage. On the One it's broken down like this:
/system 1GB
/cache 629MB
/data and /sdcard (share the same partition) 22GB, or 54GB on a 64GB model.
The rest goes to modems (/firmware/mdm and /firmware/q6), secure (/data/secure/data and /mnt/asec), and miscellaneous other partitions (logs, etc.)
Every device on the market is this way, the total NAND space is divided up between a variety of things and the usable /data and /sdcard space is generally 80 to 85% of the total.
It's not supposed to be like that. I've had that issue a few times on my 32gb M7. Copied my files to PC. Formatted my SD card. Copied files back. Reclaimed about 14gb each time as far as I can remember. Then after a few weeks, the issue comes back out of nowhere.

Yeah, I'm the same only 7gb though. Using TWRP I make a backup on my usb-otg. Wiped everything internal and restored from usb. Worked once or twice, didn't work today though. Probably is just system files.
Hope someone here can advice me.
I want to buy the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2, but havent decided about which one. Should I go for the 16GB or the 32GB version?
I will use a MicroSD card with it, 64GB, or if possible a 128GB MicroSDXC card. So I will have lots of room for movies, music and pics on the SD card. So, in this scenario, what is the best solution to go for? 16GB or 32GB?
All depends what you plan to use it for. You'll quickly run out of space if you install a few large apps on the 16gb but if you don't use these kind of apps/games, you should be fine with the 16gb

I am already hitting warnings over free space on my 16GB LTE device. I have about 1 dozen games and about 2 dozen small utility apps.
Problem is that the LTE only comes in 16GB variations for now.
Also, be aware that kit-kat doesn't allow free file browser control over the sdcard without root. i.e. without root, you can't manually create and move files on the ext_card (even with the latest File Expert file browser)
Connecting to the PC allows full-access through the PC file browser, though this is not ideal.
Root fixes everything.
Thanks for your valuable thoughts. This probably means I will go for the 32GB Note 10.1 2014.
I dont install very much, but its easier to have a bit more mmory then just the bare essential.
I got the 16gb version and regret that decision already. I was not prepared for the fact that the memory card is heavily locked down with Kitkat

I have just found out that file commander app which we got installed on device allows copying files on sd card.

I wouldn't recommend that. I just returned my last Note 10.1 2014.
Altogether, I had EIGHT Note 10.1.2014, WiFi and LTE variants.
ALL of them had a faulty display.
ALL of them were locked down using "Knox".
LTE versions are locked against using prepaid cards.
Rooting gets documented by an "eFuse".
Samsung prohibits downgrading to a lower firmware version.
Flooded with bloatware, of course protected against deinstallation and even stopping.
NO (!) software updates for far more than half a year.
And so on...
The Note 10.1 2014 has nice hardware (except the narrow bezels, making it virtually impossible holding the tablet without accidentally touching the screen or the hardware buttons), and the "leather-like" (which is nothing but an impudent lie) backpanel which in fact is made of extremely hard, slippery plastic), but got perfectly castrated by Samsungs malicious actions for locking down devices even more than Apple.
It's no keeper; sorry... :/
Regarding the 16/32 GB question:
Rooted Z2 (SD card write access enabled): 16 GB ok.
Non-rooted Z2: 32 GB mandatory.

Jupp, that plastic thingy made me cringe away from it the second I picked one up in the store.
I agree with the above, to bad you can't unlock the Sony without doing the bootloader altso, I'm kinda stuck in limbo with a non-rooted 16GB version and a hardly usable 64GB brand card :/
As I said above, use file commander app to write to sd card if your tablet is not rooted

If you're used to working with Solid Explorer, you get rash if forced to using that basic tool. It's no more than a last resort.

Yeah, you can move files to it true that, but fare as I can tell you cant access SMB shares true it, so you first have to dump it to your internal memory, then move it to the SD card from File Commander. Also, you can only move files and not application, limiting the SD cards immensely

I also wouldnt recommend this. I just sold my Note 2014 to buy the Z2 tablet. Its waiting for me at home, havent used it yet. The Note is laggy, heavy and awkward. Just my opinion.

So, you want to advice me to use a tablet you didnt use yourself, based on what?
The Note has its problems, and can be laggy, but after freezing many unnecesary start-up apps, it reacts much better.
And you call 630 grams heavy? Compared to my Surface Pro it weighs almost nothing.
And what is awkward about the Note 2014? Please explain what you mean with that.

Mate, that's just my opinion. Buy what ever you like. And yes, I ran clean ROM pretty much permanently, with a custom kernel - it was still very laggy. Buy it and enjoy
Yes, Cheops, go with the Note 10.1 2014.

After having the Z2 tab for two days now, I stand by my original statement. This tablet kicks ass. So glad I sold the note for this.

About 5 hours and a little more using Sony's weak 1.5 A power adapter - via USB and charging port.
If you utilize a better power adapter (like Samsung's 2 A piece), charging time goes down to a little more than 4 hours if using the charging station (I wouldn't call this a "docking station" because it cannot do more than charging) DK39.

Well, that's not too bad, I can use my ipad charger when in rush of charging lol. So far, the most concern matter is touchscreen issues, if it not get fix soon by Sony, I guess I have to skip this one
