You probably mean 4.1.2
There is no rooting method for 6.2.A.0.400 as far as I know other than unlocking bootloader and installing custom kernel which you may not want to do.
6.2.A.1.100 is easy to root, try to run PC Companion and see if there is update for your region. Be sure to backup your data and export contacts you may lose data updating.

kernel version 2.6.29 semcuser semchost #1
build number 2.1.a.0.435
any help would be great thanks guys
Flashtool rooting works almost for every user here. You sure that USB Debugging is checked?
.... And unknown sources is checked.
Flashtool is not that hard just read the directions and post any questions you have here...
I rooted my phone with the same specs as yours with it.
And- Most custom roms are pre-rooted with no bloatware and you don't need to be rooted to flash.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
i need a root
ok so yes im using usb debugged
and yes to unknown sources
i need to root so i can use titanium back up? right?
or is there another way
also can you guys recomend a good custom rom thats fast clean and bull**** free?
i want to be able to use my camera , txt call, download apps, etc

Root with flashtool and busybox through flashtool, and get xrecovery through flashtool.
Heres a guide to help you do the above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10879507#post10879507
Once you do that. This ROM would be a good start for you
2.1 a high performance version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913610
It's got everything working.
thanks for your help guys i realised the reason i couldnt get flashtool to work was because i didnt have se pc companion installed , duhhh , anyways got it rooted got xrecovery installed , busy box , and then got blue sparks going aswell looks great and runs like a charm , i think ill start enjoying my fone again
thanks
hi guys just got myself a xperia mini today, have root access, and iv installed cwm and i was going to install a custom rom, then noticed most said i need an unlocked bootloader to do this, so checked this with the service number on the phone and it says my bootloader can be unlocked, just realy need abit of guidance of the easiest way to do this. i googled for it and noticed you can do it directly from SE themselves but this voids warranty, is this the best and safest way to do this or is there an alternative.
all help or guidance much appreciated!
there is an alternative. check development section. but official way is much safer.

right guys im trying to flash rage kernal via fastboot, as you can see from the pics iv supplied i have put the rage boot.img in the android sdk folder, opened cmd and entered this line to start the process.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
as you can see if pic 2 im getting error "cannot load" boot.img

Thanks for your reply sir
maybe you should just wait until another way of rooting appears, the only way at this time to root xperia is with unlocked BL as you already might know. I ve done some research as well, and I ve found nothing about unlocking blocked bootloader either. if you hadn't tried yet, you could have a loot at this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
dont you worry there is root ,ones we get the 4.0.4 there is a way to root look on the xperia series 2011 if it will work on their 4.0.3 it will work on ours with some changes! pray that we get that quickly.
Problem with the 2.3.7 is that the it bug free everyony try to root in HTC, Samsung so companies did the fix so now is quit difficult to root !!! I mean without unlocked bootloader !!!
Stop cried it out about that be patient
edit There is no rush to root phone is fully work , at least my one there is no need to root nay way
- camera is work fine
- mp3 player is superb, equlizer+bass boost
-flash work great
- is not laggish
- Sony did good work with the ui view
2 reason why root only so is not to bad
there is no NTFS support one thing,
OC will be good but for now is still in progress, we can wait
Before I start, I'd first like to thank the xda community for all the fantastic work they put into the scene, and this site.
So,I have two questions regarding the SE xperia ray, the first being, should I go for the official ics update? I've searched and searched for peoples impressions of it and come up with very little. I almost upgraded last night, and chickened out; what if it's laggy and buggy like some have suggested? So I'd like peoples opinions on the pros and cons.
The other thing I was wondering was is unlocking the bootloader a no no if you use Sony's official software to update?
The idea being that I can back up my current setup so I can revert back to it (or try custom roms) if I don't like Sony's version of ics.
So, should I just root/unlock and use other methods to install ics, and is it even worth bothering with the Sony version anyway?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Edit: typical n00b ballz up as to where this should be posted, apologies to the mod (s)
Edit2: I'm an idiot who should really know better, found most of the answers I'm after in the Q&A, by all means delete the thread, although I'm still curious about peoples opinions on ics. One again big sorry to the mod (s)
hi
1) should u update to 4.0. the answer, up to you? its your own phone. if its too buggy or you find you like gb better than ics, then use flashtools and downgrade.
2)im pretty sure if u unlock your bootloader (official, setools, setool2) you can still update through pccompanion or update service, JUST NOT OTA. ota is updating straight through your phone. if you do update, u get fota brick.. which imma tell is scary. ummm.. i did that and my phone would not boot up. it was stuck in flash mode and i could not get into fastboot. but if u do your homework, u should be fine.
3) the idea that you can backup? im not sure what question ur asking, or im a idiot and i cant read... (it happens....-_-) you CAN root and install cwm to back up a nandroid, which is literally the exact copy of ur phone. if u instal a kernel and a custom rom and u find out...oh [email protected]#%% its stuck in bootloop, u can always back it up and you would be fine. theortically, i have not tried it myself..
4)ok this is how i think u should root and install ics....
first, i think you should unlock your bootloader. its pretty. i screwed 20 times before actually getting it work. (my drivers werent installed)
then i suggest you upgrade to official ics through pcc
then root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600728
ummmm i personally decided to wait for a more stable version of ics... so what i did was i was on .62gb and i unlocked my bootloader using setools since it preserves drm keys and its free,
then i took flashtools and downgraded to .42...
then i rooted and installed cwm
then backed up nandroid
then im here =D hi
X) <- i forgot what number im on and im too lazy to scroll up...
im assuming ur talking about sonys official website on unlocking bootloader? i suggest u dont do that unless u dont want to pay 20-40 bucks on ur model. if setools supports ur xperia device, then use that because the sony offical method deletes ur drm keys which would cause apps like trackid and video unlimited to stop working...permanantly. even if u relock ur bootloader, ur still screwed =D
hope i was helpful

Newer versions of TrackID still work even after you unlock the official way. The version of TrackID that ships with Sony's ICS update, and which is available on the market, doesn't seem to care about the DRM at all.
To answer the op, ICS has been ridiculously smooth and stable for me. That being said, I didn't spend very much time with the official ICS update from Sony, I don't like what Sony have done with the messages app and so on in ICS, when the stock android messaging/dialler app is so much nicer, so I've been running CM9 and AOKP for the past two or three months.
During the brief time I /did/ run Sony's ICS update, I didn't notice any stability issues and while CM9/AOKP seem faster, it wasn't exactly slow.
I'd say upgrade if you really want to, because you're not going to notice much difference in the overall stability or speed of it, and ICS by itself is downright lovely.
hi all
i got this phone a couple a days ago..
i,m quite impressed with the phone.. it,s kinda perfect for this price range..
everything was okay until last night
i found that an update was ready to install which i installed.
after the install i,m facing immense battery drain..,
i tried everything uninstalled all apps turned off all traffic but no use
i want to install a custom rom in my xperia p
but i don,t know how to do it
can some one please so kind enough and guide me what things are required in order to flash a custom rom..
and also tell me which rom should i flash..
thank you all
Hi dude...so firt of all i think that this type of thread must be on Xperia P, U, Sola, Go Q&A
Btw...for flashing a rom you need a recovery and a unlocked bootloader (not all rom have this request), but for have a recovery you need root...so you have to root your phone first using this guide if you have 6.1.1.B.1.54...after this you can install the recovery (for locked bootloader) follow this guide...this is a summary but i hope that you must read all guides before and after you can tried it
