I have been reviewing all root threads and most seem oudated, links not working any longer, they don't mention Android version, etc.
I have just re-stocked to official ics and before I screw up and gf kills me I'd like to:
* Know if latest CWM in the official site (ver. 6.0.3.1) works with the latest official ICS for P7500.
* Find a root.zip to flash for official ICS build with previous CWM if it works.
Thanks in advance.
1. Yes. But keep in mind that since you are not on 4.2 or higher, cwm will create a '0' folder on SD card once you flash something. Deleting it and flash another zip will recreate it. No biggie though, just a little annoying for me.
2. I kept a root.zip on my SD card just in case. Here you go. http://db.tt/XwaGyTwz

thank you very much!
I also found a useful link which I verified it works too.

saved the root and cwm files in there to my drive too.

sorry if this is a newbish question... but I wanted to know what I needed to actually get done when I get my tablet, and put CM7 on it... my question is is I put CM7 on via the restore backup method will CWM be installed internally as well... or will i need to flash that also?
IF YOU WANT TO GO STRAIGHT TO CM7:
- First you need to install CWM using the sdcard method by Goncezilla because for sure you will get your tablet with 1.4.1 firmware which won't let you sideload apps.
- Second download the CM7 ROM to your computer, uncompress it and put the NTCM7 in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup folder, NOTE that if you don't have the /clockworkmod/backup folder in your SDcard then create it (CASE SENSITIVE).
- Boot into CMW> backup & restore> restore and pick up the NTCM7 folder
- Wipe data and advanced> wipe dalvik cache.
- Reboot, enjoy!
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GO STRAIGHT TO CM7:
ok pfff you have many options with this one my advice is go here and pick 1 of the 2 1.4.0 ROM's in the Rom's section and use the same sdcard method to install CWM and flash it as restore (same as CM7) as they are not flashable zips.

I'm running the internal install, it works very well and is super easy to install.
It's a fairly straightforward process and now that most of stuff needed is available, it shouldn't be terribly time-consuming for you. It didn't take me too long.
Here's how I did it (for an internal installation):
1. Enable Sideloading Apps and Root the Device. (Preferably on a factory-reset Nook Tablet.)
You can look around the Nook Tablet Development forum here for tutorials on how to sideload apps and then root the device, but it's a fairly easy process. Once it's rooted and you can sideload apps, you can move on to the next step.
2. Flash Clockwork Recovery onto your Nook Tablet.
I used this super-easy app by Indirect to install CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery) onto my Nook Tab. It's literally one button press and you're good to go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630
3. Follow Celtic's instructions here to install CyanogenMod 7 on the device.
Because of a serious problem with the SD-booting version of CM7 for Nook Tabs and some possible problems with the Internal install (I've had none with the internal version aside from some typical beta-quality bugs) Celtic took the links to the install files down until he and his fellow NT devs get the more serious issues fixed. Once the dangerous bugs are patched, however, you should be able to install rather painlessly using the instructions in Celtic's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826
Like I said, it was a virtually painless process for me. Totally worth it too, once the dangerous bugs are fixed.

It is better you wait until new fixes anyway if you install now you will have to download again and do the whole process of apps restoration.

How to return to 1.40 unrooted ?
At some point I will install cm7 internally, but how would you go back to stock 14.0 out of the box if you needed to ? Thanks
If I were needing to go back to stock I would use the acclaim_update.zip method posted in the dev section.
Hello guys,
I have always played around with ROMs until today an OTA updater bricked my phone. Didn't even go into recovery. I am not an expert but I am not a noob either. After researching and following plenty of instructions, I have got to a point where I have stock ICS 4.0.4 on the XXLQ6 baseband. I was looking for instructions on how to get back my root so I can go back to my original ROM and I came across this helpful thread: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794)
However, when I am asked to flash certain file, the stock Android recovery for this stock Samsung ROM says that "sdcard" cannot be mounted because such directory does not exist. I have never had an external SD card installed ever so I don't think that should be a limiting factor. I went into my file explorer and I can see 'sdcard' no problem with all my old stuff in it (internal storage).
So my question is -- how can I get around to installing root back into my SGS2 i9100 in these circumstances? Thank you guys, I simply hit a dead end.
Edit: Kernel is: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPU-CL975203 and Build Number IMM76D.XWLPU
If you're talking about method 1 of that thread, you NEED an external SD card. It's states so right in the post. Just get a cheap one. You can probably find a small one for a few bucks.

Try this ROOT method: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Note:
-You are running ICS 4.0.4 Firmware which is known to have the SUPER BRICK BUG on it's stock kernel.
-Please flash a custom kernel immediately, e.g Siyah, speedmod, dream or Dorimanx kernel.
-Do not try any wipe or nandroid backup in CWM recovery before flashing a custom kernel
- It's better to be safe than sorry
You have been warned

Thank you, guys. I have done both of the things you said. A friend gave me an SD card and I could move it there and flash it. Now I will try Siyah. Cheers.
hey guys
i have yesterday in fact got cwm on my sgp 5.0
and i have flashed ics crumble onto it and its working epically but
i can only have 1.88 gb of space on the internal sd card (its a 16gb sd)
can any one give me a hand? with this thanks
and also i cannot connect my sgp to my computer as windows 7 comes up with usb device not recognized
please help a brother out thanks all
P.S i have all the kernal files and roms that i have loaded onto my sgp if needed
I suspect you've got a few full (i.e. from CWM) backups stored on the internal drive. THose suckers take at LEAST 1 gig for each backup point.
Also, you might try deleting the actual rom image files from your device, since they're not needed after flashing.
Finally, try searching the app store for a disk usage analyzer to help you track down the bloat. There are a few decent free ones out there.
Ohk thanks for the hand with this

i had a similar issue..my actual sd card that i could take in and out was labeled as "internal" and viceversa. so to get into my actual cd card i would have to go into the "internalsd" folder instead of the external..so try that, maybe yours got switched. im sure your 16gs is still at least half way empty. i dont remember what i did to reverse this affect but i think it just fixed it on its own i cant remember.

Make sure debugging is unchecked(applications>development>usb debugging)otherwise the computer will not reconize the unit

Hey guys any other suggestions how to fix cause I like this Rom soo much and I don't really wanna reflash my tablet

You flashed ICS Crumble, which is AOKP based. I'm thinking you're suffering from a known code issue that switches the storage locations on your device. So, in a file explorer you'll notice that what was "external" on stock ROM is now registered as "internal", and what was registered as "internal" on stock ROM is now listed as "external" on ICS ROMs.
I attached a patch for it here. It's a patch that you flash in recovery. So, put it in an easily navigable directory.
By the way, not sure if you know, or not, but ICS Crumble is a really old ROM and Reuben is not developing it any more. If you want something more recent, I recommend Supermaster34's CM9 or Remics-UX (Samsung touchwiz look-alike). Also, we have some amazing devs in this forum that are working on a kernel 3.x and Jelly Bean build for our device (5.0). That could hit beta stage in the near future.
thanks higg
thanks man it worked
i would buy you beer right now
anyway so you say theres new roms out?
well im currently running cwm5 and im unsure of how to upgrade it to 9
do i do it the same as the storage swap zip?
if you can get the correct file for my tablet i would owe you even more
and once again thank you soo much you rock!!!
I'm glad that I could help. I gotta give credit where it's due. The patch I attached is something Reuben, the developer of ICS Crumble, added to patch the storage issue. I keep a copy of the patch handy for those who need it.
CWM refers to ClockWorkMod. CWM is just another name for recovery mode where you flashed that patch. CM9 refers to Cyanogenmod 9 which is a modified build of Google's open-source Ice Cream Sandwich code. CM10 refers to Jelly Bean, but our developers are still working on a kernel 3.0 and a stable build for our devices. AOKP, which I mentioned earlier, is similar to CM9 with some subtle differences.
If you search the Galaxy Player's development forum with the phrase "CM9" you should see some current ROMs. Right now, a developer by the name of Supermaster34 has some awesome ICS builds for the SGP 5.0. I highly recommend his work.
As for the storage issue and patch, you'll probably have to flash that patch every time you flash a new ICS ROM. Because, when you flash a ROM, you usually need to format the system and do a data wipe. But, the only way to be 100% sure is check your directories with a file explorer after flashing a new ICS ROM. (Also, always remember to backup your current ROM before flashing a new one!)
Edit:
Here is the link for the ROM I use from Supermaster34's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957
Just go to the OP (Original Post) of this thread and follow the instructions. If you look in the "extras" section, you'll see the Bluetooth patch there too. You flash the ROM and the Bluetooth patch in recovery mode. If you have a USA model, skip the step for the home button fix. Good luck.
In all of my ICS ROMs I've already swapped the memory locations around so you won't need to flash the swap storage patch. Personally I'd recommend RemICS-UX over my CM9 ROM as its got more features and I usually update it more often, but it does have a Samsung like ui so not everyone like it

I'm in need to dual boot GB & JB.
I'm currently using wanamlite rom details link: http://db.tt/r9A8Kkmh
I tried to clone my current setup/rom (as an update.zip) using philz but I get errors/cannot complete.
Can you suggest an alternative way?
I tried to generate/clone an update.zip of my previous setup/rom (that'll be the 2nd booted rom) though via philz I get error no .tar file found from the nandroid backup once selected.
I see in rom manager there's an option to backup current rom, though will it be an update.zip and/or will it work as a dual boot file?
Any help appreciated, as I'm cautious as I don't want to lose my current rom/setup.
I'm going to use the dual boot method/work around from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882884 though need to generate the apt file(s) first.

As with most backups, the only way to test is to restore and see. You could copy the restore to a pc and open it in any archive tool to examine the contents and check your happy with the result. I've never bothered tbh.

I downloaded an alternative kernel to dual boot and it didn't work with wanamlite rom so I bit the bullet & tested the nandroid backup that I was unsure (had roblems with earlier), & it worked [thank the backup reminders].
However, is there a known kernel(s) I can flash to dual boot (compatible with both GB & JB) with wanamlite rom without losing all the goodness n speed of the rom?
Also, as I had issues using philz cwm 4 to make a clone of my current and previous setup/rom datas as an 'update.zip', can anyone suggest an alternative app to generate an update.zip of my setups/roms (as I'd prefer not to make update.zip files myself).
Help and your time (anyone & all) is appreciated.

The only way you're able to do this that I'm aware of is by using that convoluted method you linked to in your OP. There's no way to simply just flash a single kernel & do it, because you're talking about different frameworks (GB/JB), the kernel has to be capable of working with both roms you're using (which is how dual booting works with Siyah).
Edit - Another convoluted way to possibly achieve this (and you'd have to be really keen/motivated to want to do it) would be:-
Say you're currently running a JB rom, you back this up in CWRecovery, then you do a clean install of the GB rom you want to use. You use the GB rom, then when you're finished doing what you need to do with it, you back it up in CWRecovery. When you want to go back to JB, you restore your backup, use JB, and back it up again when you're done. Then when you want to use GB again, you restore your backup, use GB, back it up again, etc, etc. Obviously you'd have to be really motivated to want to go through this much trouble given you're going to have to backup/restore a lot whenever you want to switch roms. But I can't think of another way to do it other than that method in your OP.
Yeah that was my thinking last evening, if I couldn't find or get info on a suitable kernel.
I'm going to read the other method again and decide what to do.
Thanks.
[edit] after reading the alternative method again I guess it comes down to 'timings' on either method; to complete.

Yep that's it. Whichever method you choose, it's going to take a bit of 'messing around'. You have to weigh up the hassle Vs how much you need to use the GB rom I guess.
No probs. Good luck
I am a little familiar with rooting and flagging cm add I did it flawlessly on my nexus I just bought a nook tablet 8gb (wad told it was new hd and didn't know a thing about nooks and fell for it) but it is the older regular nook tablet. It was already rooted and had cm7 installed. I don't know what method was used bit it does power directly into cm7. I am used to jelly bean and I don't like going back to GB. I've researched fora few days on differences with this tablet but I've not found much. Does anyone have s link to a stable version of the acclaim cm10? What doi need to do too flash the new rom without raising my chances of brick. Do I just go to recovery and delete all data then install rom from sd? Do I have to flash a new kernel? Or can I flash a faster one(that's another reason for wantingcm10 mine freezes alot) if I can flash one does anyone have links to the rom and a comparable kernel? That you so much in advanced!
